The social media war on the Right

Wife with a Purpose@apurposefulwife
Just checked my email. @Jack you darn well know I’ve  violated none of the TOS. I know @TRobinsonNewEra lost his too and @VoxDay was suspended. Do we have any recourse?

The only recourse is to build our own platforms. If you want to help replace Twitter and Facebook, then support Infogalactic. This war on the Right by the social media giants has made it clear that we not only need our own social media platform, but we need one with the capability of taking the center away from them. Which is why we are building the foundations for one into the DONTPANIC engine, in addition to its wiki functionalities.

Why don't they just add being a liberal with good standing in the Democratic party to the TOS and be done with it? Everyone knows that's what it is.

De-verification is going to be a huge boon for Fake News. Now they can find a parody account of the enemy du jour and use its over-the-top tweets to defame the wrongthinker. When called to task, they can point out that the lack of a verified account makes it all so very confusing and hard to find the right guy.

This is great because journalists are very busy people, and creating fake quotes is time-consuming. By crowd-sourcing them, they can create Fake News that much faster!

@6 Aeoli

Deverification of Trump would be a worse move for Twitter than outright banning the God-Emperor. There would be a massive proliferation of imitation accounts run by SJWs that only tweet about "orange face" and "tiny hands". In addition to angry Trumpers who would quit, Twitter would lose the middle-of-the-road normies who would get tired of it all.

If you want a vision of the future, imagine a "tiny hands" meme on your monitor -- forever.

WWAPurpose has plenty of support and love, I adore her!

Let our confidence remain in God as WWaP is a fierce godly warrior for the family, sanity, a future, this young woman is godly, kind, nurturing wife and homeschooling mother. Just like our beloved SB.

I am certain alt tech has something on the way to support.

I wish she could have air time with Savage or do an interview with Katie Hopkins or Peri with Vox or Cerno. I heard about this ban and a few more bans at twitterisis from youtubers this week; also Sargon and Mark Dice had their content taken down at Utube and also had some trouble from twitter jail dīvide et īmpera.

The issue is larger than we imagined, consider this; mil'lens are pitted against gen x while gen x is trying to war with themselves, this is can be reversed I dont mean buddying up with antifa, feminists or deep stater pages; someday a platform will exist where milens and genx can cooperate for a better nation or a more strategic (although utterly effective meme war, sign up with Vox) meme war.

Anonymous cremes November 17, 2017 1:04 PM

Aha! A few weeks back I had the idea that the next generation Twitters and Facebooks should allow for each account to define which "community" it wants to join. SJWs can join the lefty SJW community, Righties can join the Righty community, etc. Not to put too fine a point on it, but essentially echo chambers for all.

This neatly sidesteps the issue of "community standards." If you choose your community, you choose to abide by the standards for that community (legal limitations notwithstanding). Troll within your community and suffer no consequence. Troll outside of your community and now you might face judgment from the other community's (potentially) more stringent standards.

Since the infogalactic wiki engine is going to allow users to tune their perspective filters, this functionality almost perfectly fits.

Anonymous Reenay November 17, 2017 1:25 PM

Cremes, isn't that reddit, basically? Or voat.

Blogger Rashadjin November 17, 2017 1:33 PM

@cremes

Yeah, that next gen social media platform of yours already exists. It's called Discord. Set up a server, and you got your own community with whatever standards you want. People then join whichever servers they want. Done deal.

The next step for a Twitter-like platform would be to explicitly network your account with another so you're following the people they're following. You'd end up with super accounts that act as content curators, which Twitter doesn't quite do by outside appearances.

When it comes to Facebook and Twitter, I prefer my degree of separation by not joining the great plagues of humanity (but only because they're used as narcissism platforms).

Pat Robertson built his own TV network (CBN) with satellites, Oral Roberts built a university, and many other Christians in the past basically built America with hospitals, schools, and churches. The world has gone social media and is one area which has eluded them.

When a judge forced Christian dating sites such as christianmingle.com to accept LGBT, I was gobsmacked that they could force them by law. And yet Google can get away with firing James Damore.

Conservatives have circled their wagons around the "Constitution", but it is now the Constitution which is being used as a weapon against them by a corrupt court system. They no longer have the Constitution to save them, so what are they going to do now?

Brick Hardslab:

Gab has not yet imploded, is still viable, and is the current best alternative to twitter. Sure, it could be brought down by any number of causes [lawfare, denial of infrastructure (see anglin), mismanagement, locusts, whatever]. Gab probably will be brought down if it grows big enough to actually threaten twitter, given current trends.

If we are looking for the One True Platform, we are being delusional. All platforms will be under attack once they reach some threshold of efficacy or penetration. Gab, Infogalactic, and other alt-right-friendly platforms exist without the anglin-like hounding across the net because they are as yet relatively tiny and ineffectual. When they get enough visibility they will get similar treatment. One way to stop that I can see is to build out a parallel set of net infrastructure, since the era of an open/laissez-faire/disinterested infrastructure provider has ended.

To sum up, we might as well enjoy Gab while it exists.

Blogger Student in Blue November 17, 2017 2:58 PM

Discord is definitely converged. Being able to provide the same polish of software-as-a-service is very hard with a shoestring budget however.

Leftists love throwing money at stuff that don't make money as long as it furthers their goals, though.

Anonymous Fred Man November 17, 2017 3:00 PM

While creating new platforms might be the best strategy, why does know one talk about conquering the converged platforms? Why must we give up what has been taken, rather than take it for ourselves? Is a converged organization, whether it is Twitter or the Episcopalian Church, simply irredeemable?

Do you recognize that your desire to provide an alternative to Twitter could paint your arguments with Torba re Gab in a different light? Regardless of who was right or wrong, it's important to dispel any appearances or perception of a conflict of interest or untoward motovation?

Yes. No. I don't care in the slightest about appearances or perceptions of a conflict of interest.

I know the truth. I had multiple opportunities to create a Twitter competitor years before Torba even started on Gab. We even had a working prototype of one that utilized 10 seconds of voice as well as text that I designed before we decided not to pursue it. I was delighted to support Gab because I didn't want to bother with what I consider to be a strategically minor objective. One of the reasons I was so irritated about the whole affair was that I understood it meant that Gab was not going to be able to cut it.

I have no idea what will bring down Gab. But I have enough experience of startups and entrepreneurs to know that it has no chance of surviving. None whatsoever. Nor do I see any other competent alternatives on the horizon; even Twitter itself is imploding. And yet, people clearly want something, and it's simply not very difficult to add the required social media features to our new engine given that we already planned Goodreads-style capabilities.

People can believe what they want. But everyone at Infogalactic can testify that we never once discussed Twitter-style features until after it became clear that Gab had fatal issues.

Blogger VD November 17, 2017 6:42 PM

While creating new platforms might be the best strategy, why does know one talk about conquering the converged platforms?

Unlike conservatives and moderates, SJWs aren't dumb enough to allow entryists.

Blogger tz November 17, 2017 6:49 PM

The problem is not so much censorship as balkanization. And in balkanization there is little room for centrists - or as they are otherwise called - moderates.
SJW - Twitter until it burns through its cash reserves.
Gab, the wild west of free speech (sorry ma'am, but this is a saloon full of lusty cowboys and there's no fainting couch, and you probably don't want to know what the upstairs couches are used for).
The rest I don't know.

Blogger tz November 17, 2017 6:52 PM

Generally you don't have to conquer the converged. You merely have to wait for their inevitable collapse. A few are at least not stupid enough to attack their own foundations, but many will self-immolate.

Blogger tz November 17, 2017 7:00 PM

I'm on Twitter only to troll hypocrisy (has DJ called for Franken's resignation?). I'm on Gab. I've heard and understand the arguments. My only doubt is the application of blockchain technology as in the example I gave years ago about embedding kiddie porn into the Bitcoin blockchain - or something copyrighted. What would the legal status be? But you use what is available. Facebook isnt really discussed, only Twitter. Fine, DontPanic will be everything to everyone over a year from now. I'm willing to wait and see what happens. But Now is Now. And I think I have reasonable doubts, but will just see.

Aside - I keep seeing the "forge of empires" commercial and it is always the man doing all the work from stone-age through something futuristic. The woman just stands there and looks at the man with something I can't tell is contempt or approval. Perhaps I should praise the Lord for small things.

Anonymous Killua November 17, 2017 7:30 PM

Nowdays, tech and social media giants have so much power over content that it forces people to reevaluate the meaning of freedom of speech in the modern age.

Freedom of speech is the right to articulate opinions and ideas without fear of government censorship. In theory, privatly owned platforms reserve the right to censor any content they don't like (they call it "deplatforming" instead of censoring)

But what if you have a blog/online store and google decides to remove your site from their results? Then you are screwed. Google is so big that it practically owns the internet (it is an exaggeration, but you get my point)

What if you get most of your financing form your patreon page, and then suddenly patreon decides to ban you? (like it happened to that rightwing youtuber girl) then you are screwed.

Like Vox says, building platforms is a must. The cultural war is real.

Conservatives have circled their wagons around the "Constitution", but it is now the Constitution which is being used as a weapon against them by a corrupt court system.

One day Americans will realise that their Constitution, their Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence, these were all liberal concepts that were anti-conservative (and anti-Christian) right from the start.

And finally, something tells me VD may have a caution when it comes to the Cult of Joseph. I've been around my fair share and looked deeply into their beliefs (wife and I prepped and had bike jockeys come by and discuss Mr. Smith's claims and history). We brought up the "Seeing stones" and the shoot-out at the jail. They had no retort other than "When I pray, I just feel that Joseph Smith is the truth." Strange bedfellows.

One thing I hadn't considered until Twitter really decided to shot itself in the foot, but if Twitter starts policing off-site content from a user, aren't they opening themselves up to Defamation lawsuits? They'll be making "public" statements that come with actual injury to them.

"Jack" is going to love when someone files a criminal defamation complaint against him.

At some point the government is going to make these online services utility providers, legally, because political censoring actually isn't cool. That means the tech will freeze as of the day the status starts.

Why can't these Ivy League genius CEOs and Board members see this coming?

In the 90s a lot of top 5 law grads who didn't have student debt because they came from rich families or were Black went straight into tech General Counsel offices and skipped learning real law slaving at law firms, but I figured that would wash out by now and they would be able to see where this train is headed. It is just so dumb.
