SJW as far as the eye can see

One of the most SJW-converged corporations on the planet just extended its tentacles even further:
Disney on Thursday announced a deal to acquire many parts of Twenty-First Century Fox for $52.4 billion in stock. The company will get Fox's movie studios, network Nat Geo, Asian pay-TV operator Star TV, stakes in Sky and Hulu and regional sports networks. The acquisition bolsters Disney's plans to become a dominant streaming service platform, making it a bigger threat to Netflix.

"The more desirable content they have, the better they will be able to compete in terms of trying to sell a subscription offering at a time there's so much competition for subscription-based services," said eMarketer senior analyst Paul Verna.

Bob Iger will remain Disney's chairman and CEO through the end of 2021, at the request of the board of directors of both companies. Disney emphasized the importance of Iger to integrate the acquisition, saying in a statement that "extending his tenure is in the best interests of our company and our shareholders."
On the plus side, there isn't much at Fox to ruin. On the downside, this acquisition puts the SJWs in an even stronger position in the cultural war.

This is why it is so important to start and support independent endeavors such as Castalia House and Alt★Hero. Because if we don't, there will be no alternative to the converged content being piped directly into everyone's brains like a metaphorical Matrix.

Speaking of which, we need ten more beta testers. If you're a gamer and you're interested, please email with ELVETEKA in the subject. Old school Karateka-style arcade action.

Isn't Disney getting close to being a monopoly?

Blogger dienw December 14, 2017 8:22 AM

The first thing to come into my mind was the old Bell Telephone and the standard "Telephone Company" jokes. In a fond memory of those days, we should now have words "THE DISNEY CHANNEL" emblazoned across the top of every television set.

Blogger Ron December 14, 2017 8:25 AM

Can someone explain how this isn't a cartel?

I'm asking this honestly, I don't know the laws involved.

"A cartel is a group of apparently independent producers whose goal is to increase their collective profits by means of price fixing, limiting supply, or other restrictive practices. "

Anonymous Looking Glass December 14, 2017 8:25 AM

Interesting sign. This was an all-stock deal, doesn't seem like any cash was used. Points to an interesting trend for Interest Rates vs Stock Values. dc.sunsets will have thoughts in that regard.

Now the question is if this is a Rubert move or his far-less competent sons. If it's Rubert, then he's seen the writing on the wall and these interests are at serious risk.

Sadly, this'll probably improve Fox's movie output.

China angle is here, as well. The ChiComs have prevented their companies from buying up Hollywood studios. Which means something is up. I wonder when that shoe will drop.

Last random note is I wonder if this means Bob Iger is out of running in 2020? He's one of the names we've known since the Podesta Emails went live.

Anonymous Looking Glass December 14, 2017 8:27 AM

@3 Ron

There are other movie studios, a bunch of this is foreign assets and Netflix exists. Though this maybe get more than passing scrutiny from the Trump FTC. They've already nixed one really major deal this year, along with preventing any more consolidation within the Cellphone space.

I think fox owns the rights to the rest of the marvel properties, xmen and fantastic four as well so this deal should put them back under one roof. How much did they pay to get Spider-Man back from Sony?

It's tricky, they both need and fear peer to peer cultural transmission. Playing whackamole with your enemies gets noticed.

> I think fox owns the rights to the rest of the marvel properties, xmen and fantastic four as well so this deal should put them back under one roof.

That and the local sports networks (which in theory will be integrated into ESPN) appear to have been their primary focus. The old 20th/21st Century Fox catalog of movies gives them ammo to be used against Netflix, which is a nice plus.

Blogger Cataline Sergius December 14, 2017 8:56 AM

Basically Disney is buying back most of the Marvel Heroes they don't own the rights to. Xmen, Mutants, Fantastic four.

After this buy out the only Marvel Characters Disney won't have some measure of control over is Namur and MAn-Thing.

The bigger the Empire the more territory one has to guard. More potential chinks in Disney's SJW armor to pry at.

That and the local sports networks seem to be the primary motivation, yes. I assume the local sports networks will be merged into ESPN. The movie catalog of 20th/21st Century Fox gives them some nice ammo to use with Netflix/Amazon too.

You can always speed up the process by asking them if they really believe their SJW crap.

Hell of a lot more fun than being the usual outraged conservative. The SJW live for conservative outrage and it never fails conservatives are basically zombies.

Very, very small potential consolation here:

Even though Disney now owns LucasFilm properties, Fox still owned distribution rights to the original Star Wars film (1977). Now that Disney has it, we might be able to get Bluray versions of the original trilogy in their theatrical release formats (i.e. "Han Shoots First" and no extra CGI nonsense).

One can hope.

Blogger Cataline Sergius December 14, 2017 9:33 AM

Actually this is a good time for Fox to sell.

Recast Wolverine will difficult because Hugh Jackman made such a huge imprint on the role. And Jackman is definitely done.

X-Men Apocalypse made half a billion but cost 178 million to make. The domestic take was 155 million. If it hadn't been for the FBO it would have lost money.

So the franchise is pretty close to played out. And with Hugh Jackman gone the only A-List star they have left is Jennifer Lawerance who has gone from a fresh faced America's Sweetheart with wide appeal to bitchy and temperamental SJW who has flushed half of her audience down the toilet in the name of being an Feminist.

Also, Fox get to dump James Cameron's Avatar sequel on Disney and the potential for that one to be a studio breaking disaster is quite high.

So from short range stand point it makes sense for Fox to bail.

But from the long range perspective it makes even better sense because MOVIES ARE DYING.

Movie are long past the crest of the wave and it's all downhill from here. The downhill trend of film income is clearly not aberrant at this point.

Blogger Chris Lutz December 14, 2017 9:34 AM

I knew about the movie deal. I didn't know they were picking up the regional sports networks. This really is turning into a monopoly. Disney is getting ready to launch their own streaming service.

Since they get a stake in Hulu and Amazon has other revenue streams, I have to believe this will kill Netflix. The only thing that might prevent that is if Congress steps in and requires content has to be sold at a listed price to any buyer. No more exclusive streaming network deals.

Slightly OT but related.....

People wonder what happened to all the men? They are gone for the most part, testosterone levels in young men today are at the levels of old men from the 90's. Sperm counts are so low and falling that western men as a group could be facing mass infertility by the 2030's. Diet and environment have killed the western men.

Current test levels for the average 25 yr old are currently at the level of a 75 yr old from 1996 based on the study below (https://imgur.com/a/KwpXp)....

https://academic.oup.com/jcem/article/92/1/196/2598434#63878204
In one of the largest study of its kind, Travison et al. report a population-wide decline in Massachusetts's men’s testosterone levels during the last 20 years that is not related to normal aging or to health and lifestyle factors known to influence testosterone levels.
They found that testosterone concentrations dropped about 1.2% per year, or about 17% overall, from 1987 to 2004. The downward trend was seen in both the population and in individuals over time.

https://academic.oup.com/humupd/article-abstract/23/6/646/4035689?redirectedFrom=fulltext
This comprehensive meta-regression analysis reports a significant decline in sperm counts (as measured by SC and TSC) between 1973 and 2011, driven by a 50–60% decline among men unselected by fertility from North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Because of the significant public health implications of these results, research on the causes of this continuing decline is urgently needed.

Now consider that the buzzfeed guys have the testosterone levels of an 85 - 100 yr old man and are probably somewhat representative, they are functionally, hormonally castrated..... And we wonder why the west is drowning in SJW's???? These "males" may physically have a set of testicles, but they might as well remove them.

This is just more ghost-dancing about 'laws', 'muh constitution', etc. (It's an easy trap to fall into.) The fact that it's a cartel is irrelevant because the cloud people who control Disney, accurately described by our host as "Satanic", are much too big for any law. The clownfarts in congress even re-write copyright laws to Disney's specifications, and all the blackrobes on the supreme court - even the "conservatives" - ratify them like the worthless lickspittles they are. There is no rule of law in the Fake Banana Empire, nor is this utterly evil and depraved empire reformable. It has to be burned to the ground completely. It deserves no mercy whatsoever. As the Chinese like to say, the 'Mandate of Heaven' has passed from it, so its days are numbered regardless. This hideous reality is lost on many. They really just can't quite face the true ugliness of it, which is understandable.

The underlying problem is really not any different than what we've seen with the NFL, who has completely caved to the demands of the BLM kneelers (in case you didn't notice). The SJWs in charge of NFL are counting on being able to wait it out until the dumbass whites will stupidly return sitting in front of jujubox to a) waste time; and b) help fund their own genocide. Earlier this year, there was also big talk about applying anti-trust regs to Amazon, Goolag, Apple, Faceberg and Twatter (who are also monopolies). As usual, nothing done. They kicked off anyone who countered SJW dogma but most of the idiocracy still uses them. Massive vote-fraud in AL Tuesday, but the only thing we can count on is for the Repukes to stand by their 1983 surrender. Pull the plug and cut the cord - on all of it. Stop helping fund the enemy. If you actually have the opportunity, set it ablaze. This will be lost on most until we reach the end of the present Tulipmania (as noted many times by d.c. sunsets). As he notes, the longer this goes on, the worse it will be when it finally falls. It will likely be incredibly ugly. Stop funding enemies. Stop thinking proven enemies (the badge-gang goondas, for example) are your friends.

Prosecutors said the companies collected fetal tissue donated by abortion providers and then advertised and sold hundreds of units of tissue and stem cells to research facilities around the world, collecting hundreds of thousands of dollars each year in revenue.
