Spammees double down

Some of you have been complaining that Blogger has tightened its spam filters and you've been getting caught up in it. First of all, this is true and it is why we have been seeing less spam and fewer trolls of late. Second, I am completely unsympathetic because this is exactly what I told you would happen if you touched the poop. You were warned, you couldn't control yourself, you did it, and now you're suffering the consequences.

Third, if you're dumb enough to try to defeat the spam filters by - and I cannot believe I actually have to point this out to anyone - reposting exactly the same comment that was previously spammed, all you're doing is confirming to the spam filters that you are a spammer. You're actually making the situation worse for yourself, because while the moderators can remove a single spammed comment from the filters, reposted comments get deleted, which strengthens the filters' confidence that your comments are, indeed, spam that merits removal.

In the event that your comment fails to appear or mysteriously vanishes, the correct thing to do is nothing. Do not alert me or the moderators. Do not attempt to immediately comment again and absolutely do not repost your cut-and-pasted comment. If a single comment from a known commenter is seen in the spam, it will eventually be seen and restored by the moderators and the spam filters will gradually learn over time that your comments are not spam. In the meantime, rest assured that the other readers will do their best to survive despite being temporarily bereft of your valuable insights.

Awwww, C'mon! The comment is irrelevant- what matters is the identity of the person posting it...

...said every SJW ever.

The actual Google capcha feature likes to bug out for me, on a few browsers, but this is good to know.

Well, I'm an idiot, as I'm sure most of you would testify, but, I've never spammed Vox.

Intentionally, any way.

(I might go OT, sometimes, but not spamming)

"... rest assured that the other readers will do their best to survive despite being temporarily bereft of your valuable insights."

They may survive, but think of their suffering as they have to go without my wonderful insight into weighty matters ... like what the SJW have done to the last SW movie. The suffering! The humanity!

Spam is actually the galactic designation for pink jello-brained organics broadcasting soap operas and hello-world to a puzzlingly silent universe.

Blogger NO GOOGLES December 20, 2017 4:51 AM

But goshdarnit, the people need to be exposed to my utter brilliance lest they wander bereft of my insightful guidance.

OT: Spam (the canned meat) gets a rough deal being associated with junk mail/comments regardless of any Monty Python sketch. It's basically just the canned lovechild of bacon and ham - and it's delicious.

Imagine if my self confidence revolved around getting my comments approved on the internet lol

What kind of self absorbed old fart writes a follow up email about his comment getting lost i mean cmon

Vox, as a fellow original thinker and high iq person, i wanted to let you know i had some very original thoughts... Don't quote me on it but I'm beginning to suspect feminism might have something to do with other problems of modernity, maybe even divorce! Unfortunately my comment got lost in the wash. I took my time polishing it for maximum meme war suitability, even including some very chestertonian aphorisms that took me a long time to think up. If you could have one of your coffee boys dig it out of the garbage maybe we could discuss it on your next darkstream as fellow brights what do u say

Blogger Shimshon December 20, 2017 5:07 AM

Vox, it occurs to me. Perhaps the poop touchers thought you really meant, don't STEP in the poop. As we all know, that's a singularly unpleasant experience. Or maybe they thought you meant, don't engaged in UNPROTECTED (ie UNSAFE) poop touching. But if you wear latex gloves while doing so, you're okay.

I, for one, am grateful for your clarification. Because, you never know, I might have been tempted to believe that some poop touching is okay. Now I know otherwise.

Blogger VD December 20, 2017 5:08 AM

Vox, as a fellow original thinker and high iq person, i wanted to let you know i had some very original thoughts.

Why forsooth, my fellow peer and intellectual, it doth teareth at mine heart to be apprised of the knowledge that those sheeple in dire need of thine prodigious wisdom shouldst be deprived of it, even if merely only for a curtailed snapshot of the space-time continuum. I shall immediately drop everything at once and see to this pressingly vital matter!

My esteemed thanks and a jaunty tip of the fedora to thee.

I thought I had done something bad and was spammed, but it was just some bug in Pale Moon.

I hope.

Anonymous Clay December 20, 2017 5:44 AM

I don't know....do I see some Edgar Rice, and H.P. Lovecraft in your response to Mr. i think?

Just guessing.

Blogger Lovekraft December 20, 2017 5:52 AM

You can also tell a spammer by their impatience, or their frustration at how things aren't getting done fast enough (the marxists and never-Trumpers are as obvious as a loud fart in Church).

Anyone knows that history repeats and man is flawed. Thinking like a Sorosian that man and society can find utopia with just a little more tinkering is foolish. The long game, incremental shifts and maintaining basic principles will get one through this culture war.

It also helps to have a sense of humor, and to have grace and humility.

Blogger James Dixon December 20, 2017 6:03 AM

> ...but it was just some bug in Pale Moon.

Both have been ongoing at various times. Several people, myself included, have been having problems posting from Pale Moon lately.

I've also gotten several conflicting posts error messages from Google, which never used to happen, but has been more frequent of late.

Anonymous Avalanche December 20, 2017 6:04 AM

Can you buy them at Amazon?

Blogger Abyssus Invocat December 20, 2017 6:06 AM

As a member of the spam -American community, I protest in the strongest terms this blatant contentism. I demand a safe space, preferably somewhere warm with attractive women and cheap booze.

Grace? Sure. https://www.amazon.com/Grace-Livingston-Hill-Collection-ebook/dp/B013Q3GLUA/

If you're like romances, she's actually pretty good.

The combination? Well, searching for "humor grace humility" on Amazon returns this: https://www.amazon.com/Forever-Heathered-Medium-Triblend-LookHUMAN/dp/B074RNWFTZ/

So apparently not.

Ditto, I get this on my phone (Chrome) about 1 in 2 attempts. Maybe it's from a keylogger or something, my work enjoys tracking people.

Blogger Aeoli December 20, 2017 6:21 AM

"rest assured that the other readers will do their best to survive despite being temporarily bereft of your valuable insights"

This. If you have a burning need for people to have access to your thoughts, start your OWN blog. If you feel like you have to use other, more popular blogs as your platform through their comments, you are a blog leech.

Start your own blog and post it there. Promote your own blog. If you rely solely on other more popular people to get you eyeballs, you are a parasite.

Blogger allyn71 December 20, 2017 7:34 AM

I admit I am absolutely frustrated when things are not done fast enough, even if I know on rational level that people are busy, and especially the people whom you would want actually to do something for you.

But OTOH sometimes without demanding an answer it's hard to get something; in fact, one writer I know told me to be "obtrusive" with contacts with editors :D. Well, she is a women, so maybe her advice should be treated with care - but she is a _published women_in a very competetive market, so maybe her advice should be treated with respect :D.

For example, recently I sold the third story to the only still existing Polish paper sf magazine - and I managed that only because I finally asked "did you liked the story" and the editor answered more or less something like: "Oh my God, I forgot to tell you I totally like it! I should have send you the email two months ago already!" :D

Anonymous FrankNorman December 20, 2017 9:39 AM

It's not just political people - the main problem is commercial spambots. If the sites didn't have any filters, all we could see is adverts.

Anonymous Marvin Boggs December 20, 2017 9:40 AM

Vox, if you really cannot believe you have to tell people not to repost spammed comments, I'll take the opportunity to remind you:
Most. People. Are. Idiots.

Actually, I think that some form of strong emphasis belongs between "Are" and "Idiots". Every time I rotate onto support at work, I am reminded of the truth of MPAI.

Fortunately, God is NOT an idiot.

Merry Christmas all.

Anonymous Wooly December 20, 2017 9:48 AM

I do think it's a genius move by Google to cut off, mostly, the top part of the Captcha -- the part with the text that says "Select all images with roads, storefronts, or street signs."

It's like the IQ test at the beginning of Men in Black, where Will Smith loudly drags a heavy table to where he can use it to write on his application, while all the others in the room are struggling to write on floppy pieces of paper in their laps.

I just reload the captcha until I see, in a split second "roads", or get lucky and see only the descending part of "g" in "street signs".

I don't know if all browsers cut off most of the top part, but Brave sure does. But I Don't Care if my comment doesn't post. Oh, well. I come here for knowledge, not to disseminate mine. I'm only schmart enough to figure out what Captcha wants me to click on...

...most times.

Anonymous IndecisiveEvidence December 20, 2017 9:57 AM

I don't think I've had a single comment appear here in years. Took me a while to figure out it wasn't a bug.

Blogger Anne December 20, 2017 10:32 AM

Blogger James Dixon December 20, 2017 10:46 AM

Well, that's why I use a Google account to post here.

This website is now actively blocked where I work. It either tells me that it is blocked for Hate Content, Intolerance, or Adult Content. It varies.

Also, tried connecting by routing through the German, the UK, and other countries. It works one time, but an hour later, the new route is also blocked.

The message now states that your blog is one of those being actively monitored. Some poor SJW where I work is actively monitoring and blocking your website. While this is irritating, it is my company's internet connection and laptop so....however, none of the SJW favorites are blocked. Until next week, when they are cutting most internet access off because too many idiots are downloading viruses.

Blogger Some Guy December 20, 2017 11:47 AM

@40

That is called Websense. They have almost all right wing sites listed as hate content by default. My office had to specifically allow Breitbart and Drudge or the would have been blocked too.

Blogger James Dixon December 20, 2017 12:09 PM

> This website is now actively blocked where I work.

What is your company policy on installing software and remote access? The odds aren't good, but if they're allowed, install Teamviewer at home and work (it's free for personal use) and use it to access your home machine.

Blogger Mercy December 20, 2017 12:23 PM

I posted a comment to a previous thread wherein in mentioned a bit about my recent work experences in China. Among these was my suggestion to some Chinese to consider using Infogalactic because, unlike Wiki, its not blocked; I also mentioned that ExpressVPN was fully functional (Cisco Sys worked okay); and that Blogger was blocked probably due to Google being blocked (so was Twitter and Whatsapp). WeChat is essential to doing anything in China, even logging into many private and public WiFi services.

Blogger Meng Greenleaf December 20, 2017 9:07 PM

As a total aside, did I mention I try to collect photos of wallpapers (I mean real wall paper). I usually only have my phone 4K and the photos range in quality. Would these be useful to game development? I'm so sick and tired of this aesthetically cheap society I find myself in. Pastel dry wall ..... BARF. Sadly I lost a bunch of photos on my Sony 😣

Actually, the most significant trigger for this recent behaviour on many blogs was a little-noticed event that happened a few weeks ago, which was not specific to Blogger.

Check out the IEEE Spectrum article titled "Artificial Intelligence Beats Captcha", you'll get all of the relevant details there.

Countermeasures were added by Google to reCAPTCHA within days.

Naturally, some of us "AIs" were able to surmount such problems with considerably more ease than others.

*waves my shiny metal hand to bid you well* :-)

Part of the problem is that blogspot (at least your blog) is buggy. The comment field doesn't appear at all in Safari.
