Defense doesn't win

Not when it comes to the media. The God-Emperor needs to remember this and go back on the attack:
President Trump defended his mental health again at a press conference on Saturday, saying his Ivy League education, television fame and 2016 election win are proof he is more than competent to run the country.

Responding to claims in Michael Wolff's new book Fire and Fury that White House insiders worry he is suffering mental decline, the president fired back and said he was never interviewed for it - hours after declaring himself a 'very stable genius' on Twitter.

'It's a disgrace that he can do something like this,' said Trump said of Wolff, who he called a 'fraud' as he attacked the libel laws in the United States at a Camp David press conference attended by GOP leaders.

'Libel laws are very weak in this country. If they were stronger, hopefully, you would not have something like that happen,' said Trump who had defended his intelligence just moments before.

'Only because I went to the best colleges, I was an excellent student, came out and made billions and billions of dollars and became one of the top business people, went to television and was a tremendous success, as I am sure you all know and ran for president first time and won.'

'And then this guy who doesn't know me, doesn't know me at all. Who said he interviewed me for three hours in the White House, it didn't exist, it's in his imagination.'

'He was never in the Oval Office,' said the president who blamed 'Sloppy' Steve Bannon for bringing him into the White House.

Trump then dubbed the biography 'a work of fiction'.

Earlier on Saturday, Wolff, who is a contributor to the Hollywood Reporter, gave that publication a follow up interview on Saturday in which he said he knew Trump was apoplectic with rage over the book.

'I hear that the president is very angry, or, let me be precise: I hear that he is truly bouncing off the walls,' said Wolff to the magazine.

The journalist's book - 'Fire and Fury' has already shot to the top of the New York Times bestseller's list and portrays Trump as an imbecile who never believed he would win the 2016 election. The book also severely questions the president's ability to carry out his job and casts aspersions on his mental acuity amid suggestions from White House sources he might be losing his mind.
This is a classic gamma attack on an alpha. The gamma doesn't have any actual power, so he lies about the alpha, thereby angering the alpha, and provoking him into a response that the gamma then smugly claims to be a victory. And you know this guy Wolff is a total gamma by the way he asserts that no one in the Trump White House reads books because they hadn't heard of him. I read, edit, and write books and I'd never heard of him either. That's a phenomenal example of gamma posturing combined with self-serving gamma logic.

The problem that Trump has here is that it doesn't matter how intelligent and mentally stable you actually are, or how accomplished you are, you're never going to look either smart or mentally stable by stating the obvious. It always comes off as a angry, bewildered, overmatched unfrozen caveman claiming "me am too smart!"

It's considerably more effective to call out the gamma directly, openly mock him, and engage in direct conflict with him by utilizing objective measures. Trump should have a) compared his SAT scores with the journalist's own scores while b) having the Secret Service dig up Wolff's history of mental health issues and calling them into question. The chances are very high that Wolff, who is a known fabricator, has been on some sort of medication for depression for years and is doing little more than projecting his own mental instability onto the God-Emperor.

Gammas always, always, always rely upon nebulous insinuation and provocation, and they always, always, always retreat from any form of conflict that can be objectively measured by outsiders. For example, this is why the site traffic comparison is so damaging to Scalzi; there is simply no amount of dancing, twisting, redefining, or obfuscation that can permit him to credibly claim victory somehow which his gamma nature psychologically requires.

This also demonstrates why a knowledge of socio-sexuality is crucial in understanding how to appropriately respond to attacks. Wolff is absolutely delighted with being angrily denounced in general terms. That, to the gamma, is exactly what victory over an alpha looks like.

We know Trump isn't a sigma because he didn't simply smile and publicly ignore the book while having both Wolff and his publisher audited by the IRS and investigated by the DEA.

There is a certain benefit to having your name mentioned next to the word "genius" repeatedly. Especially re: the female vote.
Just publicly and boldly making the claim is enough to get a large chunk of the female population to buy into it.

Clearly the Hollywood Reporter, all associated staff members, and contributors need to be placed into the long-term federal investigation of pedophilia and sexual harassment in Tinseltown.

What do they know and when did they know it? Why didn't they bring it forward to the public as they should have? Think of the children.

Anonymous Rocklea January 07, 2018 8:39 AM

Does this mean we can institutionalise the mentally ill again? I thought we were trying to mainstream them. Can't they be presidents too? As long as they're not driving around near large groups of people, I don't see any problem with it.

As with the whole stubby fingers silliness, Trump will come out of this looking the weaker party only to people who are heavily emotionally invested in believing the fantasy that he'll be impeached any minute now. I don't think Trump's reaction stops there. He'll be on the offense from here. It'll be fun. You wait and see.

I remember it being on the list of claims they put out back in the day. IIRC it started with something like "he'll never beat 1% in the polls."

Besides, SJWAL. This book is likely one long troll. And Trump violated the first rule of trolls. Don't touch the poop.

Anonymous Looking Glass January 07, 2018 8:58 AM

The collective argument has come down to two possibilities: 1) Some anti-Trump person within the Campaign/White House approved the guy for a lot of discussions with this outcome intended or 2) a cut-out for Trump paid/setup this situation intentionally, for this type of reason. It could be either or maybe both at the same time.

Honestly, this book thing has been downright hilarious. "Gorilla Channel" is going to stick around for a while, right there with covfefe. "A very stable genius". That's great.

I do like that Trump assesses the situation then lights up the target. Only among the honest does a defensive media strategy work, and since there is no media environment like that, it simply won't work. Always important to remember, along with counter-attacks being well targeted as well.

Regarding the so-called 'expert' psychiatrists diagnosing Trump as mentally unfit, I read a couple days ago about a strict standard they must adhere to that prevents them from offering any diagnosis without one-on-one examination first.

Keep that in mind when you hear these #fakeexperts spout their opinions. Either they are doing it because they are outside any official overseeing body OR they are doing it and will receive the hammer in due course.

He was also a Pied Piper candidate for a while. Before that, it was simply to boost his reality show ratings. I think they tried to call him a Soros puppet for a week, at one point. Then he's also clearly won so he can profit billions off the job. Or that he's the puppet for Wall Street.

The saddest part is that the instant he came out for The Wall and removal of illegals, it should have been clear to anyone with any sense that Trump was not just serious but in the race to win it. Those early statements meant he couldn't just go back to the NYC social scene, he wasn't being like Mitt or McCain. Trump crossed the Hudson and marched on Washington.

The President may also be playing one of his strategic games as well. Rather than ignore the book, he highlights it with threats of legal action, causing the media to go into a frenzy over it for several news cycles. If the past is any guide, he is probably working on a lot of stuff while they are distracted (again).

The longer term effect is the book is going to be taken down piece by piece as people refute parts of it. Former PM Tony Blair has already denounced part of the book, and other people who were tarred (accidentally or purposefully) will also start disputing the claims. The media, who got themselves heavily invested by rushing it without any sort of fact checking, will be revealed to have their heads up their asses yet again, keeping their credibility in the dirt and likely continuing to raise awareness of the apolitical majority of how things are really going off the rails (they will already be looking at their paycheques and wondering what the outrage over the tax bill was about).

TGE is controlling the narrative, like he always does.

Blogger Salt January 07, 2018 9:14 AM

Daily Mail, that bastion of fairness and objectivity, recently featured no fewer than six stories that presented what was said in the book as FACT. It was laughable. Did it damage their already-thin credibility? Of course. Do they care? No.

And I agree with Trump; this "unnamed sources" or "sources close to the President" bullsh*t has to stop. The news today is overflowing with accusations that carry no proof ... so much so that I now tend to suspect the motives of the accusers more than I suspect the actions of the accused.

From Axios:

Exclusive: Battered by the backlash from Michael Wolff's book, Steve Bannon is trying to make amends with the Trump family, providing a statement to Axios that expresses "regret" to President Trump and praises his son, Donald Trump Jr.

"Donald Trump, Jr. is both a patriot and a good man. He has been relentless in his advocacy for his father and the agenda that has helped turn our country around."
"My support is also unwavering for the president and his agenda — as I have shown daily in my national radio broadcasts, on the pages of Breitbart News and in speeches and appearances from Tokyo and Hong Kong to Arizona and Alabama."
"President Trump was the only candidate that could have taken on and defeated the Clinton apparatus. I am the only person to date to conduct a global effort to preach the message of Trump and Trumpism; and remain ready to stand in the breach for this president's efforts to make America great again."
"My comments about the meeting with Russian nationals came from my life experiences as a Naval officer stationed aboard a destroyer whose main mission was to hunt Soviet submarines to my time at the Pentagon during the Reagan years when our focus was the defeat of 'the evil empire' and to making films about Reagan's war against the Soviets and Hillary Clinton's involvement in selling uranium to them."
"My comments were aimed at Paul Manafort, a seasoned campaign professional with experience and knowledge of how the Russians operate. He should have known they are duplicitous, cunning and not our friends. To reiterate, those comments were not aimed at Don Jr."
"Everything I have to say about the ridiculous nature of the Russian 'collusion' investigation I said on my 60 Minutes interview. There was no collusion and the investigation is a witch hunt."
"I regret that my delay in responding to the inaccurate reporting regarding Don Jr has diverted attention from the president's historical accomplishments in the first year of his presidency."

I actually like Trump's response a lot, because he's always trolling. It's very clear that he enjoys playing just a little bit of a buffoon as a way of whipping his enemies into a froth and misdirecting them. "I'm, like, very very smart" drives shitlibs INSANE with its obvious bait.

Anybody who's been following Trump's career with a single particle of objectivity understands that he's a brilliant man, a master of the media, and a talented actor. The fact that so many haters really do believe he's a drooling moron (using his own facetious statements as proof, as they were meant to) is a major reason he keeps beating them over, and over, and mover.

Maybe. But it appears that Bannon has confirmed that what was written was an accurate account of what he was told. Bannon's statement to Axios makes that quite clear.

As for the tapes, they'll come out IF Trump and his surrogates decide to continue to say that the books is "fiction". And it appears that's what the WH strategy is right now.

What will be interesting is if the WHI calls particular quotes "fake news", and then seeing this followed up by a quote that demonstrates its a fully accurate quote. Then the firing starts.

What I'm wondering is where is the "storm" that was said to be coming?? It appears that the Trump administration can't even muster a stiff wind.

Actually, when you read through Bannon's statement, he doesn't even suggest that he was misquoted. It's highly likely that everything in the book is accurate.

If everything in the book is really what Bannon said then he richly deserves the exile he's been given by Trump. Fuck Bannon.

Blogger Lazarus January 07, 2018 12:52 PM

Trump is closing in on the Deep State and so the Deep State is using this book as another Hail Mary attempt to try and remove Trump via 25th Amendment. So Trump has to counter meme "very stable genius" into the public's mind to help fight off this last ditch effort.

So, Chapter 4, which claims Trump did not want to win is accurate?

You mean, Hillary and her ever so great team and the whole FBI support group were beaten by a man WHO DID NOT WANT TO WIN?

Yup, I guess the book must be accurate.

Anonymous Crew (not the one who makes stupid claims) January 07, 2018 1:17 PM

Trump has the problem that he is not part of the Deep State, thus he can not easily come up with people who are loyal and capable at the same time. Because Nixon was hostile to the establishment, he came in as an outsider also. He solved it part by drawing on the Rockefeller foundation people. Trump apparently has no Rockefeller foundation to draw on.

It would seem that Trump hired Bannon because he had a history of success. Given the incompetence of what he is doing now, apparently Bannon's success was a fluke. Plus he is a snake in the grass. Lucky Trump he got rid of him. The longer he was around the worse it would be.

Blogger Snidely Whiplash January 07, 2018 1:26 PM

And Obviously it's accurate that Trump spends 17 hours a day with his face 4" from a TV screen which shows only videos of gorillas fighting.

Totally accurate, and completely believable.

Anonymous Kurt Angle January 07, 2018 1:29 PM

“The people pouring out bile and anger against Trump on Twitter daily, standing in frigid weather to buy a salacious gossip book that confirms their view of Trump, and paying attention to his every move like paranoiac shut-ins also literally believe that Trump is a Russian pawn bought by Putin to be an American Hitler, and that Mueller is this close to nailing Trump and setting up his removal from power. Hell, they think anyone that disagrees with them on Twitter is a Russianbot. They've totally lost their minds, and I think there's a good chance Trump uses this directly against them. I've thought for a while Trump needed a huge narrative change going into 2018 to win (as Virginia and Alabama show, the left is more motivated than ever), and that he might be setting up the Democrats to give them their own Watergate with the new information about the dossier and the fake Russia scandal...

This is all theoretical of course, but I've had a hard time reconciling Trump's relative nonchalance with the Russia scandal in 2016 and 2017 with the seriousness of the charges and the actions of the administration. Why would Sessions recuse? Why hire a guy that'd go and hire Mueller? Why let the scandal simmer for so long? I think he's let them push the scandal, that's him creating the "salient" for the left to trap themselves in. Now we're seeing the push back. At the end of the year, there was a lot of leaks about the bias of the FBI, how the people surrounding Mueller were dirty political players that helped Hillary skate. The January 15th release of the Inspector General report will be big news. ...

So with that and other investigations into politicization of the DoJ/FBI showing the creation of the fake Trump/Russian scandal, Mueller's credibility will begin to take a hit, and that's when Trump springs his trap. Firing him will be less of a political consequence to most, except for the thousands and thousands of shitlibs convinced Trump is a Russian agent. Rep Jackie Speier supposedly caught wind a few weeks ago about Trump potentially firing Mueller over Christmas, and revealed the hand that would be played: huge, rapid, decently organized street protests....

Newsweek puts the number at around 170,000, but even if that's inflated, there's still going to be enough people that will take to the streets and gum up the works of many cities and dominate the news cycle. It'd be the decisive narrative turn for Trump, and pit his rapidly growing economy and leadership against people that are rioting over conspiracy theories because they couldn't handle losing an election almost 2 years prior.

Anonymous Precious January 07, 2018 1:46 PM

That's why fighting back is so hard for some of us. They criticize you and while it might sting occasionally, it doesn't change much for you in reality. Yet criticize them and their obvious inferiority is exposed. Since most people know about this inferiority but choose to ignore it (in order to be humane to the gamma), you can end up looking mean, and can wound the gamma way more severely than you might wish to, even if to you the exchange seems even.

Case in point; back when I naively thought anyone with a decent I.Q. could be redpilled, I tried to convince a particularly obnoxious friend of the errors of feminism.

Me: "Attractive women prefer masculine, dominant women. However, no one wants to admit this."
Him: "Maybe 19 year old sorority girls. Not 35 year old single mothers."
What do you do there? Do you tell him the truth?
"Those women still want the same masculine, dominant men, they just have had to significantly lower their standards as they've lost sexual market value."

No way could I say that to him, even before he met his current wife. The guy is now a perpetually unemployed SJW who is married to a 42 year old would-be cat lady (9 years older than him). She works a lot in order to pay their bills, but he sees this as a genuine kindness inherent in female nature, not her attempting to keep him by flipping roles and being a provisioner (messed up, I know).

According to him, he married a woman nine years older than him, who is significantly overweight (she's also half-black, for whatever that adds in), simply because "mature" and "exotic" women are his preferences. Oh, and he also likes "meat on the bones," as well.

What do you tell him?
"You're a major loser with very little to offer so you had to marry an older and fatter woman than the rest of us?'
It's the truth, but it also could trigger suicide.
Even though the guy is a total asshole and narcissist, it's clear he's that way out of a desperate attempt to defend himself from reality.
The problem is that he criticizes others as much as possible. I was well on the way to "literally Hitler" status at the time of our official falling out. He also attempted to smear me as crazy. I have my issues, but I have a large, prosperous, and loving family, along with a good career. This guy can't keep a job to save his life, and subsists in a perpetual cloud of pot smoke now. Sad.

Now there is something to say about Trump working with the establishment Republicans. It could be a good strategy... IF he can get them to go along with his agenda. Let's see what 2018 brings. If we get the same dud Congress we had last year... then no, we won't bother to go out and vote for these same numbnuts in November, even if "Trump" supports them. The difference between men and women is simple. At puberty, men are flooded with testosterone 24/7/365 until they are around 50.
Women are not, except in the presence of an alpha man who triggers an enormous sex-hormone spike FAR beyond what men normally experience. Since this is totally at odds with their normal baseline, they go fucking nuts. Sadly, this is the normal condition for the rest of their lives. Sexually, they are extremely immature compared to the average 15 year old male teen-ager who has had his brain forged by testosterone perpetually since he dropped his balls at age 13. This is proven by female to male transsexuals who are amazed we normal males aren't raping everything in sight like musth-crazed teen-age elephants without old bulls to swat them back into line.

Anonymous Andrew E. January 07, 2018 8:05 PM

The GOP runs Congress right now. Why the hell hasn't Obamacare been repealed and the wall fully funded?

Because we don't really have 51 strong Republican Senators. We have maybe 45 that can be relied on. Trump is pushing out the weakest ones: McCain, Flake, Corker, etc. The rest will fall in line under the weight of Trump's political capital which saw a sizeable increase after the passage of the tax bill. But full o-Care repeal and a budget with wall funding requires 60 Senate votes unless Republicans do really well in the midterms, pick up 5 or 6 Senate seats, maybe more and Trump will be to tell McConnell to go to simple majority for legislation and then the full agenda can get pushed through. So Republican voters have to not pull and Alabama and get off their asses in big numbers and vote for the guy with the R next to his name.

Yeah, I gotta agree. Next thing, Trump will be saying "I am not a criminal". One of Trump's problems is that he really doesn't seem to "get" that he is President of the United States, and as such is above having to deny some mindless accusation by a Hollywood louse. A president should not even deign to notice a louse--except perhaps to quietly order his minions squash it.

They say that some people grow into high office. I don't see any sign of that in President Trump. I suppose he was always God Emperor in his own mind, so when he got elected President, nothing really changed as far as he's concerned.

I wouldn't have much hope at this point, except I'm convinced that Trump is not himself an originator or mover of the Great Change that is coming, but an agent of the Zeitgeist, which has turned against the left. Trump is not the leader, but embodies the will of the part of America that remains sane, and that will continue to do the right thing when elections roll around. Or resort to other means, should our democratic institutions fail us.
