More science fraud at NOAA

Weather science is increasingly little more than historical fiction.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has yet again been caught exaggerating  ‘global warming’ by fiddling with the raw temperature data.
This time, that data concerns the recent record-breaking cold across the northeastern U.S. which NOAA is trying to erase from history.

If you believe NOAA’s charts, there was nothing particularly unusual about this winter’s cold weather which caused sharks to freeze in the ocean and iguanas to drop out of trees....

You’d never guess from it that those regions had just experienced record-breaking cold, would you?

That’s because, as Paul Homewood has discovered, NOAA has been cooking the books. Yet again – presumably for reasons more to do with ideology than meteorology – NOAA has adjusted past temperatures to look colder than they were and recent temperatures to look warmer than they were.

We’re not talking fractions of a degree, here. The adjustments amount to a whopping 3.1 degrees F. This takes us well beyond the regions of error margins or innocent mistakes and deep into the realm of fiction and political propaganda.

Homewood first smelt a rat when he examined the New York data sets.

He was particularly puzzled at NOAA’s treatment of the especially cold winter that ravaged New York in 2013/14.
It seems we need a fourth neologism...

Their fiddling with the monthly and quarterly temperature maps is also outrageous: Cold areas mysteriously get warmer, areas with no recording stations get heat spikes. . . It's something of a tired, sad joke at this point.

I only have my backyard as a data point, but over the past seven years, my garden journal has been at odds with official NOAA data. I figured the sometimes large discrepancies in temperature, snowfall, and rainfall data were just localized anomalies.

Perhaps I need to rethink my own lying eyes.

Perhaps something that would include the word "con-artist". There is an element of artistry after all - an attempt to paint the picture they want you to see instead of reality. A catchy short phrase doesn't come to mind, sadly.
Or maybe a Wizard of OZ reference - Sci-oz - "pay no attention to the data behind the curtain".
Finally "Sci-ops" - though it really seems to be totally disinformation on their part, there is the attempt to manipulate our perception of the world.

Not surprised in the least. As a long time "armchair" meteorologist, I take my weather monitoring very seriously. Currently going on 20 years worth of daily recordings/observations. During the recent cold weather, here in New England, the discrepancy between the observations of my weather station and the NWS monitoring station - a mere ten miles away - was so large it was unbelievable. I distinctly remember one very cold night where the "official" reading and the reading here at our house was off by over 10 degrees. Granted we live at a slightly higher elevation and are NW facing - however, outside of a situation where a temperature inversion is occuring - the difference in temp readings is never this large. That night a high pressure system was stationed overhead and winds were light/non-existent thus eliminating the possibilities for meteorological conditions to be the cause of this wide of a temperature spread.
Based upon my own observations the NWS and NOAA have always produced a very shoddy product. In the last few years its gotten noticeably worse. I always assumed it was due to the effects of diversity hiring - not outright malfeasance During this era of high government debt - they should be defunded.

20 years research debunks climate change as human made. (By scientist which have struggled to get money, have been slandered - because their agenda do ot follow the established narrative) December 2017

Its rather earths travel in space around the Milky Way - (one round 240 million years) - and the amount of cosmic radiation in the different parts of the Milky Way earth travels through in space which have an impact on the weather. And its a breakthrough in understanding of how cosmic rays from supernovae can influence Earth's cloud cover and thereby climate

From an article written by one of the scientists. (My translation from Norwegian to English)

"That the sky is not static is now widely known, but it is not widely known that the changes that are related to star life and death, which are many light years away from us, affect Earth. In fact, exploding stars in the Milky Way have largely controlled the Earth's climate and governed our living conditions."

One way climatologists lie is by ignoring the well-known physics fact that Milankovitch orbital quasicycles map exactly onto the ice ages and CO2 content of the atmosphere. They don't know, or pretend not to know, and then, the ice ages being unexplained, claim that anything is possible. There was an ice age at a time with CO2 levels ten times what they are today.

Stephen Hawking was retarded enough to claim that Earth could become like Venus with more CO2. This is inexcusable because Hawking is famous for thermodynamics of astronomical bodies. The reason for Venus' temperature is obviously its atmosphere's thickness. Heat is transferred by radiation, conduction, and convection, and adiabatically changing the pressure a gas is under changes its temperature. Venus has thick enough clouds that sunlight can't significantly reach the bottom of the atmosphere, no radiation. Conduction is slow gases and only acts to reduce temperature gradients.
Mixing between layers, convection, ensures that the temperature is set by the adiabatic lapse rate.

There is absolutely no excuse for a physicist to not understand this.

Amy, Welsh Woodsman, there could easily be differences in observed weather over as little as a mile. As far as temperature, the differences in as little as 100 feet in the siting of a thermometer are often greater than the reported effects of "global warming." The thermometers used for most of weather's recorded history are not that accurate. They really didn't need to be. It's simply not important whether the temperature in Wheeling WV is 44.8 degrees or 46.2 degrees.

I should say: it's not important until one starts arguing over differences of half a degree, because there's sweet, sweet funding at stake. Assholes like Al Gore and James Hanson in the US, David Suzuki in Canada and Tim Flannery in Australia all got very rich off global warming hypocrisy, and thousands of others have made a decent living off of it.

I like the sound of @37 Carl Philipp's scienturgy, but it doesn't actually work as dialectic since it keeps the "-working" part of "wonder-working"; scienthaum would make more sense (or scientrick, or even legerdescien). Azimus's sciencopoeic is on the right track, but I'm not sure about the prefix.

For rhetoric, I like CarpeOro's sci-op and Aeoli's scienfeld/sciengeld (better watch out, CarpeOro might seize the latter).

The problem being that weather products are being used. Not least for aviation, where lives are on the line. Perhaps turning over the whole affair to Navy leadership would be the best thing. Salvage the short-term weather forecasting (which works OK), toss the hysterics.

@22: Very interesting theory. Not sure I agree with it, but it's worth considering. I'm convinced that we have not yet fully captured all the cyclic activity of our own Sun...we know of the 11-year sunspot cycle, and of a 50-year cycle. But there isn't enough data to pinpoint any longer-period cycles of solar activity.

Now I see even people you know, extremely high iq people, can just simply read and regurgitate anything they are paid to do.

And of course the worst thing is now we can't even trust the raw data, or the people collecting it. How will we know what to believe about warming or cooling trends that may actually be real.
