Remove their platform

ProFootballTalk wonders if the Eagles will even get the chance to turn down a White House visit:
Trump congratulated the Eagles on Twitter shortly after the game, but there’s no way of knowing whether the invitation will actually come. After the Golden State Warriors said they didn’t want to go, Trump rescinded their invitation, making it reasonable to wonder whether the Eagles will be invited at all.
The smart thing to do is for Trump to not extend an invitation to the Eagles. The players have made it clear that they have taken a side against America, its President, and its military veterans. So, Trump should remove their ability to take a very public stand against him by the simple measure of not doing anything at all.

Why help those who despise you? Leave them be. Don't give them a platform. Fact is, they're going to have enough problems as it is when the money runs out.

Agreed. It's not like Philadelphia is a Republican stronghold.

no worries about Philadelphia becoming "America's Team", i guess.

Zero Eagle players took a knee during the anthem during the entire 2017 season.

https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2018/feb/1/no-philadelphia-eagles-players-knelt-anthem-2017/

Many Eagles have been really open about their Christianity.

It's like an old fashioned Christian revival among the Eagles.

I think if anyone deserves an invite, it is them.

When asked why no invitation was issued, Trump can simply say "All they had to do was ask."

Blogger JDC February 06, 2018 2:06 PM

Yes, ignore them. There's nothing more an entertainer hates than being ignored. Don't give them a chance to disrespect you - Eminem is still fuming because Trump ignored him.

Minor technicality. They locked arms and black-fisted the anthem. Several black players, including Howie Long's closeted black son, have pre-emptively declined; but i cant see PDJT withholding a traditional honor to guys like Foles, just because of a few black apples.

Meanwhile, not a single groid has been shot by a cop anywhere in America sine 1/20/17. Do I have that right, or am I just not consuming enough media?

"When asked why no invitation was issued, Trump can simply say "All they had to do was ask.""

I've always assumed it to be extremely gauche (with a distinct whiff of Gamma) to ask for an invitation when it hadn't been offered. Maybe I'm missing something.

> Maybe I'm missing something.

Normally you would be correct. But you're missing the power dynamics at play. Trump is the one in control of the situation, not them. He needs to make that clear to them.

So if they want a visit they're going to have to ask for one, and it had better be a unanimous decision. Otherwise there will be no team invite at all. Given the situation, that probably means no invite at all.

As a lifelong Eagle fan and a non-Churchian Christian I concur with Dan. Even the SJWs on the Eagles (Malcolm Jenkins, Chris Long, et.al.) have personal integrity- Long donated his entire salary to Philly skools and Jenkins gives heavily of his cash and time to the 'hood. This behavior places them in the "sincerely wrong" category of Millenials that didn't escape the narrative. I actually have hope for such men as they seem capable of civil discourse.

Pederson, Foles, Wentz, Wisnewski, Reich, Ertz - these guys have the right stuff and are the sorts of men we should be upholding. To not invite them would be a mistake.

Blogger Justin Bailey February 06, 2018 3:16 PM

Trump should ignore the Eagles completely and instead invite the police, first responders, and business owners who had to clean up the carnage of the Philly Riots after the game.

Anonymous BBGKB February 06, 2018 3:16 PM

Dear Eagles
You are cordulay invited to Walter Reed Military Medical center.

Agreed. It's not like Philadelphia is a Republican stronghold.

PA is republican except for Philly,& Pittsburg.

So let the owner know via back channels that any individual players who want to come by are welcome, but there will be no team invite unless they all agree to come. Give the owner a contact for the players to set up a visit.

Blogger Timmy3 February 06, 2018 3:33 PM

Just allow those who didn’t say anything a chance to meet the President. No invite needed. Sort of like how Disney only asked the QB to be at Disney World.

Anonymous c matt February 06, 2018 3:52 PM

And when they whine "racisssss" for getting no invite, GE should tweet "please accept my invitiation to sign up for any of the regular White House tours."

Blogger Ransom Smith February 06, 2018 3:53 PM

Troll everyone and invite the Philly back of house staff.
Concessions workers, bathroom cleaners, security, etc .

Blogger Lazarus February 06, 2018 4:52 PM

If that's the case, I vote no platform also. Getting an invitation to the White House for winners is for casting Presidents in the glow of their victories, not as a reward to the players. If they are going to soil the carpet, they can stay outside.

The NFL is not like the NBA. An NFL roster has 53 guys and most play, whereas an NBA team has just 5 starters and a few subs.

The Eagles are probably the most stand-up NFL team you will find. What groups have any open Christians at all, let alone a vocal majority?

Blogger Duke Norfolk February 06, 2018 5:16 PM

Yep. Leave 'em hanging.

Anonymous Pitchfork Rebel February 06, 2018 5:21 PM

@13.

This is a great chance to diminish the prestige of the NFL. They haven't accomplished anything that demands national attention and respect. They play a game, and one that will likely result in the physical or mental incapacity of a significant number of them.

As far as sports goes the single best sports event this past weekend was Penn State clipping Ohio State 19-18, even after OSU Heavyweight Kyle Snyder (who is the best wrestler on the planet) thought that with the injury to defending national champ Jason Nolf, he could do a little taunting on Twitter. Instead, Penn State's unranked 197 pounder defeated Ohio State's top ranked Kollin Moore. Over 40 straight dual meet victories for the Nittany Lions and no SJW bullshit from either team.

So much stupid in this thread. So many people saying "they" did this or that, referring to a group of nearly 100 people (including coaches and staff). It's a certainty that a lot of those on the team voted for Trump, and it's a fact that a few million Eagles fans did -- the Philly suburbs are basically the political swing for the whole state.

If you want to make the case that getting back at those 5 or 6 guys is worth pissing off millions of supporters, do so. But this "Malcolm Jenkins speaks for everyone on that team" shit is retarded.

Blogger Meng Greenleaf February 06, 2018 7:22 PM

No more tax-payer-funder military advertising for the NFL.

"But this "Malcolm Jenkins speaks for everyone on that team" shit is retarded."

My elders in the family sometimes act like squabbling children in public.

I have been forced to do one of two things:

1) Politely tell them to be quiet, and/or
2) Apologize to the service person for their behavior.

Where, may I ask, are the adults on the Eagles team, to apologize for / tell Malcolm Jenkins to shut his piehole?

Blogger Johnny February 06, 2018 8:00 PM

If Trump does an invite the press will be hot to interview those who don't go, producing the potential for a bad press. I am guessing that for that reason he will pass on it. But given Trump's personality I bet he would like to.

Blogger James Dixon February 06, 2018 9:37 PM

> If you want to make the case that getting back at those 5 or 6 guys is worth pissing off millions of supporters, do so.

If those supporters get upset by his not inviting a team that's demonstrated they hate him, then exactly how great was their support?

Blogger Lazarus February 06, 2018 9:57 PM

Maybe this is where those guys get the memo on what being on a team means.

Blogger Lazarus February 06, 2018 10:12 PM

Brady did not show up for the white house event last year along with some of his team.

Now they are screwed. Why would Trump allow more opportunity for random a-holes to use the platform?

Sure, the good guys don't get to go. Boo hoo. Maybe they should talk to their "team mates"

Blogger Sambuca Ford February 06, 2018 10:48 PM

You cannot boycott what you aren't invited to attend. Jenkins doesn't speak for the team but a certain Raiders QB learned what happens if you defy the brothers on your OL.

Chris Long is auditioning to follow his old man into MSM. Lyle Alzado >>>>>> Howie Long all day.

Blogger VD February 07, 2018 5:49 AM

Yet, you give them a platform by promoting the game they use to trash your culture.

That's not a platform, moron. And discussion is not promotion. Now go away and stay away. You sports-hating losers are not welcome here.

Blogger Gordon Scott February 07, 2018 11:41 AM

I would suggest inviting those who want to come, and the others can stay home. Then, invite a bunch of ordinary Philly fans, and the cheerleading squad. Throw up a tent and have a great party, utter no political words and to hell with the rest.
