Super Bowl open thread

Discuss amongst yourselves....

Breaking news from Minnesota: Black Lives Matter activists have chained themselves together to block the light rail lines going to the stadium. This should turn out well for them.

4th Quarter Update: Very smart coaching by Pederson. He's already burned four minutes on what he clearly intends to be the final drive. He's going to try to get it down to less than 20 seconds with no New England timeouts before he lets them score. The best way to beat Brady is to keep him off the field.

So far no ''political'' ads. Of course NBC is plugging the hell out of the Olympics, and the Marines are a sponsor.
Otherwise, they're simply plugging products.

Re: false flags...

Rep. Schiff is out there warning that the release of the Nunes memo could lead to an OKC type attack on the government. So if you're looking for a possible false flag, that's the most likely one to happen I think. It would let the FBI play both victim and hero, while casting everyone who dares question the FBIs integrity as another Tim McVeigh.

But tonight the in-laws were delivering pot roast, taters and zipper peas to welcome home my 4 day old daughter on their way to a party. In deference to them, I tuned into the National Anthem. I wonder, did they not show kneelers, or did no one kneel?

Either way, I turned it off and resumed plodding around to pacify the ravenous offspring between feedings. I wound up giving her a sugar tit. I think the milk is awful late coming. Prayers for a clean bill of health at the pediatrician tomorrow, please.

The Patriot's full back is the prototype for blocking fullbacks. He's white, wears a number in the 40's, and wears the big neck pad in the back. Sometimes these guys wear visors. The neck pad is to keep his head from getting smashed backward. His job is the block. He might catch a ball sometimes but never really runs with the ball. He's a miniature lineman.

a theory:

So, here’s a better theory: The Patriots understand the rules, nuances of officiating, and individual referees’ tendencies better than any team in the league. Have calls gone the Patriots’ way? Sure. Is the NFL rigged? No. The big reason the penalty numbers so often skew in New England’s favor is that they know what they can and cannot do on the football field. (I’m sure the irony of a team that’s been embroiled in two cheating scandals also being the best rule-followers in the league won’t be lost on anyone.)

“It is something we continually work on,” defensive line coach Brendan Daly said. “It is our responsibility to educate ourselves on what that [referee] is looking for and what are the things that are gonna get called versus not going to get called, and then call the game appropriately.”

Players say Belichick is constantly plucking obscure penalty situations from across the league and showing his players tape every week. Veterans who’ve been with multiple organizations in their careers say New England’s position coaches are better than anywhere else they’ve been at correcting would-be penalties in the middle of practice.

the Devil is in the details.

Patriots Superbowl match-ups are usually very good games football wise. This has not been an exception. Pretty good matchup. Eagles played really well. Good job across the board. There wasn't any time where one team won or lost the game in a moment.

Good question, from what I head GE was going to watch the first half at least.
But yes, GE has to invite the winners to the WH. It's a ceremonial duty of the job.

Anonymous Causal Lurker February 04, 2018 10:30 PM

THIS TIME, the old man didn't beat them (Stabler, 1981). GO EAGLES! That was a fiercely competitive game, with one key turnover when it mattered most.

There's something about winning the playoffs and Super Bowl with your backup quarterback, who's under contract for another five years.

Blogger YIH February 04, 2018 10:34 PM

Like it or not it WAS a good football game. Hard fought to the end.

Blogger Retrenched February 04, 2018 10:35 PM

Congrats to Philly. I didn't think their defense would step up in the clutch but they proved me wrong.

Also, the Eagles and Pats set a record for most combined total yards in any NFL game, ever. Wow.

Blogger dh February 04, 2018 10:37 PM

Good job to Philly. Good game.

I hope the GE ends all the stupid celebrity ceremonies of the job. Part of being a radical is doing radical things. He should ignore sports and celebrities or better yet continue to use them as he has, using them to divide America into the traditional America or the fake America filled with fake Americans.

Anonymous Causal Lurker February 04, 2018 10:41 PM

Pederson just thanked Jesus Christ for the win, and his men. Eagles are giving thanks the the Lord, and dedicating the win to their families and fans everywhere. All are speaking in full, intelligible sentences. Class.

The only nugget of brilliance that I have to contribute regarding that Super Bowl is thus... My cousin, who I don't consider to be the brightest star in the sky, made an interesting prediction. He said that he felt the NFL would be much less inclined to blatantly screw Philly because their fans would literally burn down Philadelphia and half the East Coast if things went sideways this time around.

Now why do you think that touchdown catch "going to the ground" wasn't overturned? Uh, huh.

And please spare me the quoting of the rule about a runner or receiver... we all know the rules usually go right out the window when the military-industrial security complex memes are involved.

Blogger Lazarus February 04, 2018 10:49 PM

And please spare me the quoting of the rule about a runner or receiver

Why? because it would make your case irrelevant?

Blogger OGRE February 04, 2018 10:55 PM

Both Eagles TD receptions were the right call. One the first one, he had possession while his left foot was down, then his right foot went down, then his left foot went down on the end line. Having placed both feet in bounds while in possession the result is a TD and the play ended when his right foot touched the ground.

One the second TD he caught the ball at the 6 and took no less than three complete steps with possession and then dove into the end zone. Had he been bobbling the ball the whole way then one could claim that the ball coming loose was an incompletion. But he had possession and carried the ball 5 yards and once the ball intersected with the plane of the goal line the play was over, so it was a dead ball when the ground knocked the ball free.

Anonymous Übederdeplorable Psychedelic Cat Grass February 04, 2018 10:58 PM

I was explaining that about loser merchandise to my gf earlier.

As to the OASF, I've been watching football since before I was 5. I've NEVER heard of that rule prior to this game. So unless it's been sitting in obscurity, it was put in effect within the past ten years I'm guessing.

So it's yet another rule to slow it down. The man broke the plane.

Blogger OGRE February 04, 2018 10:59 PM

The T-Mobile ad was terrible. A quote: "You’ll love who you want. You’ll demand fair and equal pay. You will not allow where you come from to dictate where you’re going." In three sentences they touched on the three biggest planks of the fringe left agenda: homsexuality, feminism, and open immigration. And they'll try to take cover behind the cuteness of babies.

The Coke ad was less in your face but a bit more insidious, as it seeks to normalize the abnormal. But I'm pretty particular about my soda and avoid the corn-syrup laced piss anyways.

Anonymous Überdeplorable Psychedelic Cat Grass February 04, 2018 10:59 PM

Anonymous Looking Glass February 04, 2018 11:40 PM

On the game itself, the Eagles lose, pretty handly, if they aren't extremely aggressive when it was required to be. You never walk backwards into a win against the Patriots, and the Eagles weren't outcoached in the high leveraged situations.

They flashed a graphic that said it was the most yards in any NFL game ever, really fast. (Though is that from Offense or All-purpose?) The Defenses actually came to play, but it was the year of really good offenses and Jacksonville's Defense.

Great game, and Nick Foles came in better than Trent Dilfer and he leaves with a Ring. Congrats to the Eagles!
