USMC lowers officer standards

Because gender equality is more important than winning wars. And why not? Seriously. It's not as if the US Armed Forces have been defending the nation or its borders for the last 60 years anyhow.
The Marine Corps has made a major change to its Infantry Officer Course. The first big challenge for many was a test of physical fitness. If you passed, you moved on. If you didn’t, you washed out. The test was especially difficult for women who had to meet the same standard as the men. Not anymore.

The Infantry Officer Course now uses the physical fitness test as an exercise, and not a pass/fail requirement.

Officials with Marine Corps Training and Education Command told Military.com “that Marine Corps Commandant Gen. Robert Neller had made a decision in November to transform the test from a high-stakes hurdle to an assessment from which students can drop without risking their place in the course.”

“[Neller] approved modifications to the IOC [program of instruction] to better tie student evaluation and graduation requirements to published infantry training and readiness manual, military occupational specialty specific performance standards, and operating force requirements,” TECOM officials said in a statement.
As the student evaluation and graduation requirements gravitate towards female-friendly subjective homework and classroom attendance standards rather than objective physical standards, we can expect women to increasingly not only complete the Infantry Officer Course, but excel in it. Which, over time, will lead to the consequences explained by Martin Van Creveld and quoted in SJWs Always Double Down:

As Martin van Creveld, the Israeli military historian has noted, the more women enter any professional field, the more men leave it. And as the men depart, so to do the prestige and the economic rewards provided by the field. This creates a vicious cycle that both expels existing men from the field while repelling new men from entering it.

If the universities can be considered a reliable model, we're about three decades away from a majority female Marine Corps. No wonder China is content to patiently wait for its opportunity. This marks the second step in the end of the USMC's historical prestige. Even current female Marine officers understand this.
“Changing this rite of passage will be doing female Marines no favors in trying to be infantry officers,” Marine 2nd Lt. Emma Stokien, a Marine Corps intelligence officer, wrote. “Female Marines often have to work much harder than their peers to earn the same respect, and entering the infantry under the dark cloud of even perceived lowered standards will make this a practically impossible challenge and potentially cause real harm to unit cohesion and the faith between leader and led.”
Permitting women to join the Marine Corps was the first mistake. Unqualified female officers are the second one. But the empire is in decline, and so these events are not even remotely surprising. There will be more unnecessary mistakes in the future and they will be more and more disastrous, until the empire "unexpectedly" crumbles for "no reason at all."

"But the empire is in decline, and so these events are not even remotely surprising."

The empire has caused more trouble in the world since the end of WW2 than any country ever before it. It is time for the empire to break up into regions.

Please God, let California go!

The various races and tribes could segregate and live in high trust situations if the empire splits apart. Blacks on their own, without welfare and enforce quotas, could rebuild the black family.

I, for one, would be happy to live in a place that did not have all the "advantages of diversity".

What is left of southern culture would be glad to see the damn do-gooders on the left go show us how it is down in a place of their own.

And of course Emma's lament is textbook "Standards lowered for women, women hit hardest".

Soon we will be assaulted by a new dystopian book/film series in which the kick-ass heroine saves the world by scoring highest on a pop quiz about "published infantry training and readiness manual." Black Panther has nothing on the tears of proglodyte joy such a property will induce.

You know this is kind of weird, but when I was in Desert Storm, I was on the tarmac, waiting to go back from the "Love Boat." I had spent the weekend drinking Australian beer and reading H.P. Lovecraft, as I was known to do, when I looked behind and saw a female Marine chewing a big fucking wad of tobacco. Not that snuff or "Copenhagen" but flocking leaf tobacco. Maybe it was the heat, but I think I swooned. She was a monster. I have never known a love as that

Part of this is inertia.

Ash Carter, who is in the running for worst SecDef of all time was absolutely obsessed with this.

Consequently the Generals became obsessed with it. Once the superchiefs have got a ball rolling it doesn't stop for anything. Especially stark reality.

I was honestly expecting some trannies were going to have to be recruited specifically to fill this female quota.

And that piece of shit Carter, did destroy a lot of careers when those guys poked holes in his pixie-ninja military fantasies.

I'm hoping Mattis has decided it's easier to let this go forward and show how terrible the results are, then block it entirely.

That is likely a false hope but it's mine.

Like every totalitarian in history, Obama purged the Military of any officers that would oppose his agenda, and promoted the ones that would advance his left agenda. In addition, the Red shoe march, pregnancy simulators, etc, were used to purge military officers without having to specifically identify them & remove them (they left voluntarily).

The Obama promoted officers are still advancing the Obama agenda, and the only way for Trump to fix it would be a purge of Obama's officers, with the corresponding 24x7 leftist media storm.

Or stated another way, how do you fix an organization, once the SJWs have come in and taken over.

Blogger jandolin February 17, 2018 8:29 AM

The US military can get away with lowering standards for the military as long as the US military has a technological edge over its potential enemies. The US has been relying increasingly on drones and missiles to attack groups like the Taliban and Isis. The hard truth about the decline of the US military will be known the day when the US military faces an adversary whose military technology matches the US.

USMC 81-85 and in that 4 years I spoke to exactly two female Marines and they were two Lts sent to inspect something or another at the armory on Las Pulgas. What I thought was funny is that while walking up to the door they were giggling like the girls they were and yes I WB.

Speaking of social experiments, a good many black Marines were or are far better Marines than I ever was but as a whole they were or are a disaster in the making, now add women, basically America's armed forces will be just another crappy army of internal occupation.

As stated in the post, the more women in the USMC infantry, the fewer men will want to be there. That would have been the case for me in 1980 when I wanted nothing to do but get away from the feminized school scene so I signed up for 4 years of USMC 03. I was in an 81s platoon and almost no woman could have done even what we did with those heavy weapons and we were normal guys. Women have done tremendous damage to the esprit de corps which makes the USMC what it is.

I was around only a few WMs since they were pogues and our other name for them was BAMs - Big Ass Marines. Something about the camo utilities that made their rears look enormous.

There's this underlying current that you pick up on talking to officers, looking at the training guidance, developing the training (COIN has nearly been entirely eliminated despite our being in several more COIN environments since Petreus cribbed COIN of David Kilcullen), reading the think-tank pieces that officers pass around to each other...that we're not at war. Duty in Kabul, Kandahar and Bagram are "Garrison Forward" with a pesky weekly car bomb or mortar/rocket attack that doesn't hit anything. It's very much like the 90s under Clinton, when the debate on putting women in combat had people saying "push button warfare", "why not put women in combat? it's not like anybody's really ever going to do any knock-down, drag-out fighting anymore". The think tank pieces almost invariably read like science fiction mashups of cyberpunk warfare combined with Starship Troopers.

More than one (intelligent and knowledgeable) observer has pointed out the following:

1. Garrison duty ruins armies over time.
2. COIN is, when you boil it down, somewhat more kinetic garrison duty.
3. Ergo, COIN ruins armies over time.

(It may ruin them quicker than garrison duty, because COIN has the illusion of being an actual war, and it ruthlessly trains its participants to its standards.)

The problem isn't that we're getting rid of COIN; the problem is that we went all-in on COIN to the detriment of actual warfighting at the high end of the conflict spectrum. Remember that the hollow military of the 1970s had its antecedents in the Vietnam War. And we've spent nearly twice as long in various s***holes fighting Vietnam II: Electric Boogaloo.

It's past time for mandatory quotas. Same ratio of women and blacks in combat units as in the general population. Mandatory quotas for whites in the soft skill and support MOSs. That will provide all the data ever required in a single conflict.

I doubt it will take 30 years. At 10%, women will have destroyed the USMC and the US Army.

In what universe does anyone think a female can even be a military intelligence specialist? They have no idea of what men think or are capable of, especially in a military that still has good cohesion and effectiveness.

Blogger McChuck February 17, 2018 11:05 AM

I will give the Marine Corps leadership (who have to follow the directives of the Navy, who ordered all this silliness) a plug on how they did this.

Please notice that they did not lower their standards. Their standard remains the same. They simply announced that in order for female officers to pass the course, the standards would no longer be enforced. The physical fitness test is still administered, and graded to the same standard, but the result is left to the individual to know whether they, personally, measure up or not. Failure will not be punished officially by the Corps, but everyone will know who passed the test, and who did not.

What always happens with processes like these is that in 20 years or so, the women will fill the ranks and they will look at pictures from battle history and not see their brave brothers fighting FOR them, but instead a bunch of misogynists AGAINST them whose primary concern was to keep them out of the work force, and for sexist and spurious reasons.

They will look around and see a perfectly functioning unit (albeit at 50% efficiency or vigor as when men only were in place) and declare that diversity truly is a strength.

They will have nothing to compare their experience against, so they will have no way of knowing how far short of true achievable excellence they fall.

My favorite uncle, Charley Campbell of Nashville, joined the USMC in 1938. He was part of the old Marine Corps and served with distinction with the 2nd Marine Division in the Pacific during WWII.

It is another modern disappointment that the Commandant has reduced the Infantry Officer physical requirements so that a disgusting fat-body lesbian can be allowed to wallow through the course. Hopefully, they will be the first officers to be shot in the back by their own riflemen. Infantry has never been for sissies in any branch of the US military, much less as officers.

I gently and respectfully disagree. High levels of electronic and mechanical technology are not sustainable and building an organization on the idea that everyone has plenty of batteries and motor fuel for their toys is a major mistake. Total integration requires that all formations operate at the same level of technology. Radios are worthless if very few units have a functioning radio.

Reducing standards for women officers does not mean they will reduce the same standards for the men, so that more marginal men can become infantry officers. This fact directly refutes the claim of equality. Tell the "force for good" Navy to stick to boating skills and stay out of the infantry business.

Blogger Ryan G February 18, 2018 11:04 PM

@Unknown - I don't pretend to speak for anyone else on the alt-right, but I, personally, maintain that every masculine organization lost to convergence is yet another coffin nail on the lid of western civilization. There is not one Marine I have met in my life that was not profoundly changed because of their time in. There simply aren't many organizations left in the West that instill a sense of duty, honor, courage, and other inherently masculine virtues. Masculine virtues are important because they are inextricably linked to martial virtues. Martial virtues are a prerequisite for maintaining the sovereignty of a nation. A feminized, compromising, "feel before you think" culture is ripe for takeover; as the Scandinavian countries have so clearly demonstrated.

Blogger lowell houser February 19, 2018 12:37 PM

Universities aren't a reliable model. The Marine Corps is actually difficult with a gender ratio of about 9-1 men to women, by far the most lopsided branch of service within the US military.

That said, I was a grunt and this REALLY pisses me off. You wanna know what's gonna break morale and unit cohesion? When the platoon has to carry half of her shit so that she can keep up on a hump. The Marine Corps is specifically set up for it's officers to be expendable because they traditionally have such a short life span that our non-coms need to be able to do their job. I came away from my time in the Corps with the realization that officers are usually only good for one thing, and that is to take a bullet in the place of either the machine-gunner or the medical corpsman, you know, someone that's actually useful.
