Bomber Bolton for NSA

I am pleased to announce that, effective 4/9/18, @AmbJohnBolton will be my new National Security Advisor. I am very thankful for the service of General H.R. McMaster who has done an outstanding job & will always remain my friend.
- Donald Trump

Looks like the neocons may be coming back. But, as always, whenever Trump is at the center of the activity, don't rush to judgment. Given what is going on behind the scenes, this may have nothing to do with Bolton's "first strike on North Korea and bomb Iran" lunacy.

Then again, that was only three years ago. On the third hand, McMaster was also an aggressive hawk who wanted war with both North Korea and Russia. So, this may be a lateral move.

What a disaster.

Surrounded by Neocons. Birds of a feather. Now we have vultures infesting the White house.

I have no doubt that behind the scenes, confessions were 'coerced' out of various actors. This knowledge is only for a select few and has been used in ways we cannot foresee. We only get the scraps.

Not worried about Bolton. While his rhetoric has been "bomb first - ask questions later", I think he is on the same page of POTUS. Never, ever tell your opponent what you will do, what you won't do. Anything and everything is on the table.

Blogger Salt March 22, 2018 8:02 PM

Bolton said tonight, on Fox, concerning any disagreements he may have with Trump is that he agrees with what Dean Achenson said of working with Truman. Neither of them forgot who the President is.

Blogger BigFire March 22, 2018 8:06 PM

The congratulation phone call to Putin only have 3 other people in the room. Guess he fired the leaker.

Blogger Looking Glass March 22, 2018 8:10 PM

I'll take the upgrade. Not perfect, but we go from "prelude to WW3" to "beating up countries we can bully without issue".

Not brilliant, but at least the leaks & working against the President should stop.

Blogger Stg58/Animal Mother March 22, 2018 8:10 PM

Bolton is a Neoconservative, but he appears to be loyal to Trump, which he values most.

I like Bolton better between the two. He doesn't have stars on his shoulder.

Though, we're going to get far less Spirit Animal discussion. Does that count as a downgrade?

Blogger van helsing March 22, 2018 8:15 PM

yes bolton is a neocon, but he is not an obamaphile like DcBastard. i am sure OGE has a plan and if he needs to fire him too, he will.

Blogger Looking Glass March 22, 2018 8:16 PM

McMasters was compromised in certain ways. Not exactly sure what those were, but I think that's part of the reason there was an outside attack on him so much.

Bolton isn't getting invited to all of those ritzy parties. If he can play things right under Trump, he'll be around for a while. Though this brings the 2nd person into a high-level position within the Administration that couldn't get through the Senate within recent memory.

Blogger VFM #7634 March 22, 2018 8:18 PM

I do notice that Bolton isn't of the (((Tribe))) any more than Mattis or McMaster. So even though all have used bellicose rhetoric before, it may be testosterone venting rather than actual neoconnery.

Blogger Anchorman March 22, 2018 8:22 PM

Trump is still Trump. He was wary of the neocon argument for the Iraq War and wary of the push to stir up Russian blood needlessly.

Bolton can be rightfully lumped in with neocons, but I think Trump sees a fiercely pro-American adviser who no one can accuse of being soft or "bought and paid for" by Russians.

I think he wants Bolton in place for a specific sets of moves. If I were to guess, it is to send a message to the Norks that any negotiation will be done with a first-strike advocate whispering in Trump's ear. The West may blanch at saber-rattling, but it's a language despots understand clearly.

I also think he'll use Bolton to continue to club Europe to spend more on defense. Bolton has no time for European poseurs and anti-US cranks.

Blogger Anchorman March 22, 2018 8:24 PM

Bolton isn't getting invited to all of those ritzy parties.

This is a good point. He has no friends on the Left. Military generals are often adept at courting and keeping acquaintances on the Left and Right. The Left despises Bolton and there will be no leak to the MSM from Bolton.

Blogger Looking Glass March 22, 2018 8:30 PM

@17 Anchorman

Agreed. While NRO was pretty big on Bolton during the Bush Admin, he didn't actually have many supporters among the political class. He might be about the best we can hope for, at least until Flynn is cleared and he returns.

"So if you want to know how serious Trump is about stopping the intel leaks and scrapping the Iran Deal, today is your answer.

He is 100% serious about both."

I think that's also a good take on the situation. Kudlow for Cohn; Navarro to Assistant; Pompeo for Tillerson; Bolton for McMasters. And Trump's Fed Chair only recently took position, as well. We've moved from "play nice" to "America First".

Oh, and we just dropped massive amounts of Tariffs on China today. Lest we forget the important stuff!

"Bolton is a Neoconservative, but he appears to be loyal to Trump, which he values most.

I like Bolton better between the two. He doesn't have stars on his shoulder."

In Schwarzkopf's book, he describes going to "charm school" ... the foreign affairs school that is required for all ambassadors and all flag officers (1-star and above, i.e. everyone promoted to admiral or general).

He said that in nearly every problem presented, the military people usually recommended a diplomatic response, and the diplomats usually recommended a military response.

Diplomats generally don't lose their friends in wars. Military people do.

One of the most damaging impacts of the neocons was the notion that by involving our nations in the Middle East, it gave a powerful rhetorical weapon with which to neutralize western opposition to muslim immigration. Their standard 'if you didn't invade us, we wouldn't have to fight you' was and still is brought up.

Having more western engagement in that region would only perpetuate this argument. An argument we on the alt-right have been trying to undo for a while and it seems to be working. We are on the cusp of spreading the valid argument that, no, the muslim incursion into the west has nothing to do with the Gulf War.

Blogger Desdichado March 22, 2018 9:27 PM

If the Norks are half as panicked by Bolton as the Dems seem to be the upcoming negotiations should be a breeze...

Here's a fun local synergy thought.

What if part of the issue with The Swamp is it makes everyone partially Gamma? That to stay within the sphere, you have to Gamma it up a lot, which makes finding people that can work well under a leader very difficult?

Bolton is well known for "the 'stache stays". But holding on to it is a sign he's not going to bend for the little things. An anti-Gamma move.

Trump isn't about to be coopted by Bolton. We've seen the same pattern so many times now, and all the previous concerns about Trump being derailed by Ivanka, Kushner, Priebus, Comey, Kelly, etc. have proved to be baseless.

Quite likely Bolton was brought on board to appease, pacify, or distract the neocons.

One thing I remember liking about Bolton is that he hated the United Nations. That's enough for right now.

He's a middle guy - a neocon to be sure, but one that won't likely bow to the king of Saudi Arabia or do something like recommend ISIS or the Muslim Brotherhood rule entire nations.

Q mentioned Israel for the first time in a drop about a week and a half ago, to the relief of many over at 8 chan. He acknowledged that Israel will have to be dealt with and will be but will come last for a specific reason he did not give. So Trump appears aware of Israel's part in the deep state and doesn't see them as off limits.

Boomer Trump watches an immense amount of television and likely found FOX pundit Bolton to be an agreeable character. Trump has used his media savvy/addiction to his benefit and most likely has done so here. Personally I wouldn't trust Bolton in a shithouse with a muzzle on but that perception, too, bled through the media filter. Trump's ability to size people up is unsurpassed, and his personal interactions with Bolton likely have given an insight we don't have, primarily that he is loyal. That's an improvement over McCain sycophant McMaster.

Very possible. It also looks like we're seeing the first major turn of the Feedback Loop Pres. Trump has setup. He's aligning his staff to his objectives, while also bringing in people that will work to his larger objectives without being forced to.

Blogger tuberman March 22, 2018 11:46 PM

My guess is that it's more than loyalty, it has to do with Iran next in the middle east. There has been a slow roll toward that direction since the deal was made with the Saudis. Loyalty and not leaking would be part of that though.

Blogger tuberman March 23, 2018 12:04 AM

LG,

One of the most amusing signs of pure Gamma is Liddle Adam (bug eyed) Schiff. Have you looked into that Hotel he's connected to: The Standard? Child Trafficking, Underaged prostitution advertised, plus Drugs?? Helicopter deaths of management.

The Schiffs, I believe, are another one of those "old families" steeped in corruption for generations.

Bolton was not brought in for NK, as that is already a done deal, and not likely un will back out. You know there are not any bugs in the Forbidden City, where Potus was invited during trip to China.

Hoping the leaked "do not congratulate" was the "you're fired" moment for McMaster. B knows if he missteps he is gone, so maybe he'll be good, or maybe it's a "keep your enemies closer" thing. Now, we wait.

Blogger Looking Glass March 23, 2018 1:05 AM

@40 tuberman

Trump always has a lot going on. I still don't understand the contours of the "Flynn Gambit", but a lot of things are going to be breaking loose here soon. Thus, we'll know soon enough.

At least the first layer of a NK agreement is done already. Trump wouldn't met Kim if they hadn't worked things out for months, which opens a world of questions. Mostly revolving around the State Department not having a damn clue about it. Which means some very small team has spent months working out a deal and only reporting to Trump.

Blogger Looking Glass March 23, 2018 1:37 AM

Interesting note: Bolton is an Arms Control specialist. Yup. NK & Iran are the next geopolitical issues.

But, since the "He's a NeoCon! How could Trump?!?!" is the attack line, a reminder to the non-bots about blackpilling. In April 2017, for 3 days, the entire Western Press establishment was trying to drum up WW3 over a false flag gas attack. Trump didn't flinch & used it to his advantage. Bolton isn't exactly going to change Trump's mind.

Okay, we've got the official counter-endorsement. Max Boot is against John Bolton as NSA because it would, supposedly, get the USA into a Korean War 2. Max Boot opposes a war with North Korea.

I think everyone can put to rest the NeoCon stuff. Max Boot is so opposed to John Bolton, he's opposed to a war.

Related to bombshells, CNN is still obsessing about the fact that hot Women wanted to have sex with Trump. While "CNN against Trump" somewhat helps their ratings, I think we've gone far past ratings seeking into full blown Gamma Rage.

In further related news, if we can get 7 years of winning like year 1, I'm sure we can fund an entire year of Playmates for Trump. Be well worth the investment.

"The ideological degeneration of “official” libertarianism is not only far advanced but a threat to the future of liberty itself. The sheer insanity of a “libertarian” siding with the most unaccountable and coercive sectors of the state apparatus, the “intelligence community,” in their quest to overthrow a sitting President is something I would have thought inconceivable. But that was back when the world made sense. Now, the “libertarians” are either clowns or apologists for power." ~~ Justin Raimondo.

Of course he is. But so was McMaster, who was apparently even worse. So, it's a probable improvement.

And bitter losers like you don't even know what joy is. But it will be amusing to see you Never-Trumpers confounded for the 37th time by the God-Emperor. Surely THIS time the mistake is fatal, right?

Blogger Nate March 23, 2018 8:14 AM

my gut says this is all about Trump's desire to rework the Iran deal. Tillerson and McMaster were both standing in the way of that. They are both gone now... replaced by men who are totally against the deal.

I think the media is getting played. Trump makes big announcements about North Korea so suddenly everything that happens is seen in a North Korea context... when really he's taking steps towards dealing with a completely different issue.

Blogger James March 23, 2018 9:14 AM

My impression of John Bolton is that he mongers for aggressive war with the intention of helping the USA, instead of as method of undermining it. That's why the Derp State has always hated him. And he's like the GE, he uses rhetoric to prepare the negotiating space. I'm not surprised that Trump likes him and thinks he can use him.

Anonymous Anonymous March 23, 2018 10:12 AM

If I buy a german shepherd to to guard my house it doesn't mean I want him to eat my neighbors.

Trump is looking for loyalty and obedience, with a killer instinct. I'd say Bolton looks good from that perspective.

Blogger Silly but True March 23, 2018 10:13 AM

Trump _can_ use him in same way he’s used the rest, Kelly, et. al.

The left absolutely hates Bolton with a passion.

He’ll get in the NSC and have a pretty decent chance of running out all of the Obama loyalist #resist traitors still embedded there.

Most might simply self-terminate just on the news. But after they come head-to-head with Bolton, he’ll be able to gage their loyalty in case more active sackings are necessary.
