Celebrate Wakanda
I think it is great that Wakandans resident in the United States have their own anthem. They are clearly a distinct people and they should be encouraged in their national pride. "Next year in Wakanda!"
And can you even imagine how beautiful it would be to celebrate Kwanzaa in Wakanda!
Several NBA teams have played what is known as the "negro national anthem" at games during Black History Month thanks in part to the urging of a retired Howard University professor. However, I think we can all agree that it would be considerably less racist if the various organizations were to change the name of the month-long holiday from Black History Month to Wakandan History Month.
Eugene Williams, a 76-year-old retiree in Clinton, Maryland, has made it his goal to get professional and collegiate teams to play "Lift Every Voice and Sing" during February. He has been calling and writing teams for the past six months.
The Washington Wizards became the fourth NBA team to play the song at a game, doing so during a timeout midway through the first quarter against the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night. As the song played, a video was shown with on-court highlights and Wizards players engaging in community activities.
The Oklahoma City Thunder played it in January, Williams said. The Cleveland Cavaliers and the Warriors played "Lift Every Voice and Sing" in February.
Williams attended the Warriors-Wizards game on the last day of Black History Month to hear the song played.
"I had no idea it would amount to all of this," Williams said.
He plans to keep advocating for more NBA teams to play the song during Black History Month. He is also reaching out to universities to include the song during games, having already heard it at Georgetown University games.
And can you even imagine how beautiful it would be to celebrate Kwanzaa in Wakanda!

What a terrible song. The lyrics are good, but the melody and chord progression sound like something a middle-school music teacher threw together after reading an Introduction to Music Theory, and then tries to use it in class as an example of exemplary song crafting.
For a people with such a celebrated musical history this song does not do them justice, and should not be considered as an anthem for anyone, anywhere.
Wait, isn't that also "When we wuz kangs"?
The Negro National Anthem
I always thought it was The Thong Song
I feel sorry for my dark skinned cousins. Not having created a functioning society - ever, they have had to get Hollywood to create Wakanda for them, so they too can celebrate having a functional and prosperous nation. We do live in wonderful times, where even Africans can achieve so much, thanks to a nifty bit of CGI.
I think “ Legalize It” by Peter Tosh would be a much more fitting choice.
On a not entirely unrelated note:

Will white players start kneeling during this song?
Shameless self-promotion was how I observed the groups from this article and in point #10 in any movies and tv shows (more recently, the LGBT mafia has been making a run for top spot).
I think “ Legalize It” by Peter Tosh would be a much better choice.
“Legalize It” by Peter Tosh would be more appropriate.
I thought the original Wakanda anthem was Black Gorilla's classic hit ; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rA_za9UWXXY
"Black Panther" could have been a good movie. The story was great due to the use of well developed characters. Unfortunately, it became politicized. That sucks.
I enjoyed the film in the same way I enjoyed "Saturday Night Fever" and "Search for One Eyed Jimmy". Both are great stories! However, I have to "dial back" Black Panther because popular Black culture made it more than just a movie when it wasn't.
SJWs ruin everything.

This level of rhetoric is really entertaining. Please keep it up and thanks.
One more rant. Marvel Studio's best "play" is to do an entire story on "Killmonger" but they won't. Instead, they will try to create a story built around "T'Challa". Unfortunately, the entire character arc surrounding "T'Challa" was completed in "Black Panther". A better story is about "Killmonger". He was the best character. That's not gonna happen though.
BP was better and different than I expected. Armored Rhino Calvary charges are cool, they should have set up and extended that scene and made it even cooler. I thought the Wakandan accents were somewhat Scottish at times, which tweaked my ears a bit.
I'd give it 3 out of 5 stars. Someone else paid for my ticket.
The overly preachy ending speach at the UN was overt SJW propaganda. They realized most people wouldn't take away the right message so they had to make sure we all understood what it was.
"I love it when we in Wakanda. You got a gun up in yo waist please don't shoot up the place. Why? Cause I see some ladies tonight that should be havin' my baby. Baby. Unh."
@19 In my opinion, the Killmonger character was a fusion between the SJW's penchant for identity politics and Neo-Con interventionism. Wakanda, in my opinion, represented an isolationist ethnostate.
I don't see how any further stories (screenplays) can be created about Wakanda. This is why I said, earlier, that a story about Killmonger (a fusion of identity politics and neo-con interventionism) is a better play.
I could be wrong.
While growing up as a victim of the one drop rule, the blatant fabrication and compulsory celebration of “black history” was but one of countless indignities. But the Wakandian insanity surely raises it to an all new level. Thank God I am long past school age.
@21
Oh the character was every soy boy's revolutionary dream, single handedly overthrowing "the man" and getting ready to send weapons and trainers to revolutionary cells around the world. The sun would never set on the Wakandan Empire!
The only thing keeping him from going full Che Guevara was he didn't single handedly execute *enough* characters on screen after overthrowing the monarchy. And the equivalent of the Isle of Pines was suspiciously empty, although I suppose Killmonger could have sent them to work in the mines instead.....
you mean this isnt their anthem? nsfw. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyPhsFxnc_c
This year in Wakanda.
... and not in whitekanda...
@22 No. The villain in BP was a Black American. Wakanda's national anthem was more like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkMiNsLq4nE
Important to remember that Wakanda is fictional.
For what America spends on blacks for one year they could be deported back to their homelands in Africa; even being given money in hand to begin their new life.

I broke down and saw Black Panther Sunday afternoon with my two kids. I guess it was tolerable, and was no more stupid than the last Avengers movie I saw. After letting the film "percolate" in the back of my skull for a couple days, I finally realized what BP was really about.
Wakanda is nothing less than Asgard...for black people! The weird part is that Wakandagard/Askanda is a black Asgard invented by (((white people))). I wonder if (((they))) enjoy seeing the black community get so worked up over a place that does not and cannot exist.
Apropos of nothing, the Wonder Woman film was far better and not just because she's pretty.
@18 Nah, the best character was the vegetarian hooting ape tribal leader. I'd go see a comedy about him and his wacky African adventures.
@30 That character reminded me of Luther from "The Warriors". His intro, in which he was uttering those staccato-like taunts, reminded me of "Warriors, come out to play..." It was haunting. Watch that scene again. In fact, I think it was better.
I could be wrong.
First verse of Negro National Anthem:
"Watermelon, barbecue, Cadillac car,
We ain't as dumb as you think we is!"
The first minute of "Everybody Wants Some" needs to be part of it, too.
@30 One more thing... The dude who wrote the BP screenplay, in my opinion, carefully crafted those scenes (along with the cinematographer) in a way that rivals Lucas' "American Graffiti". BP was a carefully crafted film. And, I'll say it again, the "hype" messed it up for me.
It's kinda like how identity politics led people to overlook the fact that Elia Kazan was a HUGE influence on the films of Spike Lee. Very sad.
@29 - Is not the whole story of "Wakanda" a quite the disdainful jab at sub-Saharan Africa and especially its denizens? Wakanda's lofty place among nations is not due to any achievement of its people, nor any innate trait they possess, but because they just happen to be squatting on top of a Magic Mineral.
Even then, instead of stepping up into a leadership role, especially for their "oppressed brothers and sisters", they turned turtle and hid.

Perfect movie for blacks. The males are incompetent know-nothings that need the brilliant bitches to tell them what to do.
Welcome to Wakanda. The bantustan that can!
Wakandans in America are suffering from having had their vibranium stolen by White supremacists colonizers.
Because of this White evil, Wakandans suffer from numerous mental afflictions which lead to extremely high crime rates, poor academic performance, catastrophic rates of unwed pregnancies and STDs, etc, etc.
Curiously, Curryanium and riceanium are immune from White supremacy allowing people from India and East Asia to thrive in the West.
Without vibranium, Wakandans in the West will need huge reductions in immigration and a huge improvement in sexual behavior in order to be moderately successful.
Therefore, we're all looking forward to the next Black Panther movie in which the people of Wakanda launch a powerful movement to maximize the lives of their distant relatives in the West through immigration reform and a mass improvement in black behavior.
And equally likely, pink elephants from the planet Zoton will invade the Earth.
However, I think we can all agree that it would be considerably less racist if the various organizations were to change the name of the month-long holiday from Black History Month to Wakandan History Month.
And all without sacrificing any historical integrity, too!
You're close, but your assertion is slightly incorrect. The correct answer is to change the name of Liberia to Wakanda and watch the Blaxit.
@9
"they have had to get Hollywood to create Wakanda for them..."
Uhhh... Hollyweird DIDN'T create Wakanada. It was created by Jack Kirby in the 60's with the introduction of Black Panther in Fantastic Four (Black Panther, by the way, came out months before the racial supremacist group of the same name was founded). All Hollyweird did was adapt it to the silver screen. Using your assinine logic, it's like saying Hollyweird created Spider-Man, X-Men, The Avengers, Superman, Batman, and The Justice League, and Harry Potter just because they made adaptations of them despite the fact the essential plot points, tropes, characters, setting details, and etc were all in, LE GASP, the original source material to start with... when Hollyweird doesn't feel like editing things, that is.

"Even then, instead of stepping up into a leadership role, especially for their "oppressed brothers and sisters", they turned turtle and hid."
They just didn't really give a shit about the outside world, including other blacks, until the time T'Challa and superheroes start becoming prominent in the world in the late 20th and early 21st century, for obvious reasons that involve non-intervention in at least some capacity leading to global, and in the most extreme cases, cosmic calamity up to universal, sometimes multiversal, magnitude. The logic for this becomes readily apparent when you consider that for hundreds if not thousands of years before the European domination of Africa, it was hordes of other blacks that kept trying to invade, rape, and pillage them for the secrets of proverbial Atlantean fire they possessed, so, naturally, they'd have a lot more reason to hate other, non-Wakanda blacks... at least until the world wars and the superhero/villain craze.
Also, while Wakanda certainly gives off the vibe of being highly dependent on vibranium (understandable since even MCU vibranium is a really awesome, bullshit phlebotonium to have) and no doubt a lot of its greatest breakthroughs have something revolving around the metal... by this logic, the accomplishments of Europeans can't be boiled down to them alone since THEY were lucky to be on a continent rich in metals like iron to the point they could field knights fully armored in steel and with swords that would have made the Katana obsolete if the Japs ever had that much iron. I mean, for fuck's sake, it's even worse for Europeans given your logic since gunpowder was transferred to them via the silk road and the process of making Damascus steel was transferred from the middle-east
@30
Wait, Man Ape and the White Gorilla tribe are in this movie? Are you for real?
I think the anthem should be the Youngbloods "Get Together".
YOu would not have to change the verses, just the chorus.
Instead of:
Come on people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another
Right now
substitute:
Come on people now
Shoot down your brother
Everybody get together
And F*ck up one another
Right now
It works, try it out.
Maybe "Drug one another" would work , too
@42 They're the best part! They were the main thing that cracked a smile and got a laugh out of my husband, whose mother had passed away a bit over a week prior.
Can someone tell me the motivation behind the slights and insults hurled at people, who haven't reached what Vox coined as Time To Civilization? People who have reached Civilization, don't attack other life which doesn't resemble theirs, such as whales, chimpanzees, or elephants to this degree. To me this is like insulting a octopus for not having lungs.
I can understand wanting life which doesn't share your values out of your way, but for some of you, it is as though you expect more.
I thought "Wakanda Wild Side" was their national anthem?

This is some of the most absurd ahistorical hoohaw I've read in awhile. You really think European dominance is down to there a lot of iron ore laying around in Europe (this map says otherwise)? That iron is somehow equivalent to the mineralogical equivalent of a magic wand?
I mean, for fuck's sake, it's even worse for Europeans given your logic since gunpowder was transferred to them via the silk road and the process of making Damascus steel was transferred from the middle-east
Pick a SJW talking point and stick with it. Did the Europeans luck into a massive haul of metals, or did they steal everything from the yellow and brown heroes of the world?

Wakanda is nothing less than Asgard...for black people!
except that Asgard has Niggers.
it's not just Heimdahl that they Honkey-faced into Asgard, you watch the last Thor movie and there's a BUNCH of other Mud People evacuating from Asgard.
should i hazard a guess as to how many Honkeys are members of the Wakandatopia?
zero?
curious, yes? that Niggers are permitted a mono-racial ethnostate where Honkeys are not.
Wakanda, isn't that called Liberia, today?

It really is very pathetic, isn't it? It's just more cargo cult economics. They have no idea how economics really works. How innovation and human ingenuity produces real wealth and productivity gains.
As it ever was, and shall ever be with the Left, and especially Blacks/Browns.
Of course Jared Diamond's absurd Guns, Germs, and Steel comes to mind. I don't know if really believes his thesis or just spins it to serve the narrative. Regardless, it sure does get the natives worked up.
Jared Diamond may not be far off, if we count intelligence as a natural resource.
