All offense, no defense

It's always enlightening to see how the media reacts like vampires exposed to sunlight whenever they find themselves on the other side of the investigation:
CBS has been using NDAs to try and suppress potential sources for an upcoming exposé about Charlie Rose’s sexual misconduct. And top network execs who worked on Rose’s shows are panicking that they’ll be accused of turning a blind eye to his sexual misconduct.

We’re told that CBS News president David Rhodes, “CBS This Morning” executive producer Ryan Kadro, “60 Minutes” executive producer Jeff Fager and former “CBS This Morning” executive producer Chris Licht are all terrified about a looming Washington Post investigation that’s now been in the works for months.

“There are a lot of executives looking around corners, hoping they’re not named in the story,” an industry insider told us. “[CBS is] trying to suppress [the story] by using the NDAs.” Meanwhile, said the source, “Jeff, Ryan and David are all waiting for the other shoe to drop.”

Kadro oversaw Rose — who was fired in November 2017 after the Washington Post reported that eight women alleged he had sexually harassed them — while Fager was Rose’s boss at “60 Minutes” and Licht hired Rose to co-anchor “CBS This Morning.”
Hey, CBS, remember, it's not the crime that gets you, it's the cover-up! And as usual, those who profess to be professionals somehow manage to abandon all semblance of professionalism and their much-ballyhooed training the moment it is their own ox being gored.

It's almost as if being trained to be impartial doesn't actually work... which when you think about it tends to make sense. There is no reason to believe that journalists retain any more of their J-school classes than any other college graduate with a liberal arts degree.

Training impartiality probably isn't very effective when you contradict it with Change the World/advocacy/Speak Truth to Power lessons.

There's also the fact that journalism is the lowest rung of the intellectual class. Journalists are consistently as stupid or stupider than educationists, even.

A long time ago when I actually read newspapers a little I noticed that the letters to the editor were sometimes well written and some contained slants that were not orthodox liberal. Want to fix jurnalism? Hire those letter writers. Screw those people with journalism degrees. The thing is closer to cult than a profession.

Congrats media, you're now the pudgy, sweating villians of the picture. You're Nixon now, bitches.

Blogger CynicalMan April 10, 2018 8:23 AM

Would those NDAs be accompanied with "hush" money? Hmmm, now where have I heard of such an arrangement?

Blogger Mr.MantraMan April 10, 2018 8:38 AM

I see that two prog factions can be put into conflict.

Of course as a principled truest conservative imaginable I would never want to see two prog factions in conflict, that would be bad.

Roses job at CBS came from the top. Rose dated the daughter of Babe Paley who was married to CBS founder William Paley.

Trying to overcome basic human nature seldom does.

Heh, heh, so fun to watch them squirm.

Blogger tz April 10, 2018 9:24 AM

The CBS logo is an eye. Bloodshot, Jaundiced, and Sauron like.
Of course there's PBS.
The bloom is off the Rose but the thorns remain.

Maybe someone needs to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the Media - News and Entertainment...

Blogger Dexter April 10, 2018 9:24 AM

Do j schools even pretend they're training impartial observers now?

Objectivity is a Western concept that privileges white males, and has to be discarded, or something like that. They may phrase it differently. The meaning will be the same, though.

The practical effect of all of that is that being a leftist in those programs is largely mandatory, like in most academic departments.

Blogger Amy April 10, 2018 10:03 AM

No, Dexter, not as far back as 1996 when I took a journalism class at uni, part of the mandatory intro courses.

It was less about how to write, and all about how to report from a SocJus standpoint, and then how to weed out anti-SocJus bias in the evil white patriarchal media. It’s all about bias! And heretofore I’d thought that bias only applied to sewing.

I didn’t recognize this at the time. Hey! I was in COLLEGE! I was going to Be Somebody. Something about it never sat right with me, but I learned early on that conservative thought wasn’t really welcomed on campus.

Now I see it everywhere. “Schooling” that interferes with education. Bias taught as the opposite of, and championed as the True Way to bring Enlightenment. And every J school or English or Comparative Lit or Sociology or Psychology prof, etc., let’s you phone it in so long as he or usually she can make it to whatever padded elite summer symposium series they’ve got scheduled for the next two months.

Burn it all down.

@Johnny the MSM observably doesn't want to hire good writers. If they did, they would have already taken the opportunity to hire good ones who apply.

i always wondered why Rose had such a great reputation. occasionally his guests were interesting, but Rose rarely had anything of interest to ask or comment.

And yet today, months after the Weinstein and many others have been pilloried in the public eye, we really are no closer to developing clear standards with which to avoid falling into the 'sexual harassment trap.'

Right now in Ontario there's another hit job on some texting by a PC (Conservative) that was sexual in nature. Keep in mind that this is during an election season where the Wynne liberals are about to face the Trump of the North (Doug Ford) so the feminists are going to do everything to hold onto power.

Re Kathleen Wynne, J Peterson painted her as even worse than Obama in terms of being a far left ideologue.

Blogger Thucydides April 10, 2018 1:59 PM

At least CBS did not equip the offices of their "talent" with remote control locks so they could turn the office into a rape dungeon like NBC.......did they?

Blogger Johnny April 10, 2018 2:45 PM

As reported by @Ceerilan

>>@Johnny the MSM observably doesn't want to hire good writers. If they did, they would have already taken the opportunity to hire good ones who apply.

Yeah, I know. I am just thinking about how things could be changed if there was a desire to do so. I would abandon the concept that a journalist is somebody with a degree. What you end up getting is somebody with a cultural slant that isn't worth the small additional expertise relative to the self developed.

Blogger HippySheep April 10, 2018 3:33 PM

Are CBS concerned about their image or the possibility someone else is making a programme before they themselves can cash in?

Blogger Crew April 10, 2018 4:22 PM

And now Haaretz is reporting that the Alt-Right and white supremacists want Trump not to be forced into war in the ME by the Israelis ...

Will the digital edition be available in Canada?

Blogger Zeroh Tollrants April 10, 2018 6:32 PM

I kept hoping that Ronan Farrow would take down President, Chairman of the Board, & Chief Executive Officer of CBS Corp. (((Les Moonves))) yet, somehow that snake, like David Geffen, Bryan Singer, and oh, so many more pieces of Hollywood filth, manage to survive to dominate another day.

How was (((Charlie Rose))) protected?

The media are a weapon.

Because they’re willing weapons in the hands of our would-be rulers, they deserve no sympathy for their plight. But weapons don’t have defenses of their own.

Nonetheless if your enemy has a spear and the puts him out of reach, it may necessary to break the weapon to expose him to attack.

In the case of the western media it is also a moral duty.
