Yep, this is Denninger's line. He's been all over the FANG stocks and their illegal practices. Zuckerberg richly deserves to be seen as the criminal that he is.

This cartoon depicts the well-known reality of Google, Facebook, and the rest of the social media giants. They make their money by selling whatever information about yourself you choose to post. This is the only way they can stay in business and be as large as they are. Since no one will pay for content, its the only workable business model for the tech giants.

You always pay dearly for "free".

Email: ProtonMail
Search: DuckDuckGo
Browser protection: uBlock Origin and NoScript
Facebook: Go to Settings, select Apps and Websites, and turn OFF Apps, Websites, and Games. (Just not having FB at all is best, but if you need a minimal presence to satisfy corporate HR that you do have a social media site, lock down the security to maximum, follow no one, add no friends, and turn OFF Apps, Websites and Games - this blocks permissions from APIs that will scrape your data.)

OT: Dirty Underbelly Update

I hear the Justice Department or whatever has seized Backpage.com classified sections because sex-trafficking. Could this be part of the Storm, or is it routine stuff?

I know backpage stopped escort ads a whlew back, but of course they find other ways to get the word out.

Blogger Killua April 06, 2018 5:56 PM

lol that cartoon was hilarious!

OT: Dirty Underbelly Update again

I see escort advertising/review site the Erotic Review has shut off access from the U.S. They say Craigslist has stopped personal ads, Reddit has shut down a bunch of oages, and other sites like CityVibe have gone dark.

I aasume prostitutes are still advertising on social media.

"I assume prostitutes are still advertising on social media."

I thought the people running the social media sites were the prostitutes. At least the ones at Twitter are.

I'm looking at uMatrix. Does anyone have experience with this tool? I get the impression that some of its functionality is being built into Brave, but the possibility of having a greater amount of control over the specifics is interesting.

@10 Cecil Henry

Unless you are using a VPN your IP address will likely always be the same, no matter if you are on Facebook, web browser or any other internet app.

So yes, you are already compromised.

Cattle, Chickens, etc. get lots of free food for a while. Then become Big Macs and McNuggets.

Of course there is no "paid" version of Facebook, Google, etc. that would eliminate the tracking.

Worse, even if you never use them, because of tracking cookies (like here), they track you even without an account unless you use a blocker.

Unless you live in the ~50% of the US that still has rolling dynamic IP's.

My IP address is different every time I reboot my modem. Always inside a specific range, but it's a big range.

Doesn't matter, you should always assume everything you do or say online is public knowledge. Just sayin', IP's a not static for a great many of us in the US, even now.

And VPN is not expensive. I've been using one for some time now. You never know what consequences a record of visiting alt-right sites might have in the future.

Other good reasons for it too.

Depends on the service provider and how they have DHCP configured. If I reboot my modem I would still get the same IP as before. I'd have to keep it offline for like a week if I wanted a fresh IP.
