That DOES explain the lyric

I don't know how you were diverted
You were perverted too
I don't know how you were inverted
No one alerted you

That second line always bothered me as a lyricist. It had a sense of wrongness to it and the hard "p" didn't flow as naturally as something like "converted" or "deserted" would have, which tends to indicate that it was there for meaning rather than rhyme and flow.
From CDAN:
This long dead permanent A+ lister who was in one, if not, the greatest band of all times used to travel to a country just to have sex with tween and teen girls. He said it brought him to a new state of mind. Apparently there are several children of his he never met from those rapes that are still living in that country and are about to sue his estate.

Blogger Franz Lyonheart April 08, 2018 5:13 PM

Have to say that the same line bothered me also, especially after you have posted that brilliant Prince guitar solo of that song's cover.

Non native English speaker; what's a tween? If it means twenty-something girl then tbh I cannot see much of a problem. Of course, why then go to "a country", rather than pick then up in your own country...., sounds like hiding away in some third world place..... Anyway what does "tween" actually mean?

Seems more and more prophetic that Lennon’s murder on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception 1980 wasn’t a coincidence. Satan came to collect the second Lennon realized he had screwed up and wanted nothing to do with the leftists he had ingratiated himself with.

George is lucky that he didn’t go a similar way, but I have long suspected he’s likely in a similar place due to this kind of crap. Shame.

I hate to think of what Paul’s been hiding. That’s going to be one big pile of ugly.

Ringo...not sure. Probably has some skeletons, but most people have always hated him.

Why do these Frontline Assembly lyrics make me feel like they wrote this as an anthem for channers and shitlords?

We are contagion
You and I
We are contagion
We are contagion
You and I
We are contagion
We are contagion

To draw the line, to break the chain
Or tolerate with token accusations
To parasite the mutual blame
Or amputate the stolen generations

You and I, We are contagion
Borne on sickest moves
Disease by inclination
Dumb animal improved

The toxic shock, the system plague
Annihilates from pure contamination
To pre-evolve, to die outphased
Or plead the case for ceaseless isolation

You and I, We are contagious
The poisons break the skin
Ambition leaves us helpless
The waste of faith tomorrow brings

You and I, We are contagion
We are contagion
You and I

What comes to mind to me is that entertainment is inherently self indulgent. serving. So, perhaps it attracts people who are libertine by nature and then by opportunity. Perhaps that also accounts for why their political ideas are dysfunctional. Instead of admitting to their own self serving behavior, they imagine we can all act like that and things will hold together.

I have often stopped and meditated upon the meaning behind these very four lines. I swiftly recalled the stories of Lennon making a deal with the devil to have a successful musical career. And then, it strikes me that these could be the twisted words of a demon fed to a man.

Blogger SemiSpook37 April 08, 2018 7:26 PM

@35

Exactly my point. Used to enjoy the Beatles when I was younger, but as I’ve aged, I’ve found that the success of these men was of a more sinister nature than most fans care to admit.

As I stated above, the when and why of Lennon’s death cannot be even a remote coincidence in this regard. When the devil comes to collect, he’s not taking no for an answer.

Blogger James April 08, 2018 7:27 PM

In all honesty, I would take this with a grain of salt. There are people that know what kind of bowel movement the Beatles had on a specific day. This is the first I’ve ever heard this. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure all of the Beatles screwed underage girls, especially in Australia. Lennon once was asked what was the Australian tour was like, he smiled wickedly and said “Satyricon”. There was one journalist that was availing himself of the charms of one nubile Australian girl and one of the Beatles roadies came in and asked if anyone wanted to have sex with John Lennon. The girl the guy was balling was out from under him so fast he couldn’t believe it. I have read that Lennon visited Thailand a lot where he liked to do young boys. This was after he moved to New York with his great love Yucko Oh No! (/sarc) However, the absolute only place I ever saw that was in The Lives of John Lennon by Albert Grossman, the sleazy, (((ex-manager))) of Bob Dylan. Supposedly, Dylan wrote Positively 4th Street about Grossman. If you’re familiar with the song, you can feel the dislike and contempt he has for him.

Anyway, While My Guitar Gently weeps was produced in 1968. I suppose it could be about himself, but during that time and for the next 7 years, Harrison was a very preachy person that viewed himself as very “spiritual”. An Eastern mysticism which he never saw through. Admittedly, he did grow up and became a more understanding man. But, in the early to late 60’s, mores were still skewed in favor of the men. If a girl was throwing herself at you, you didn’t ask for ID. Sure, she looked young, but if she is that loose, you’re not the first. He was 21 on the first Australian tour, 25 when the song was written. Given the fact that all the Beatles were not raised to be religious, given the Northern English tendency for girls to get pregnant to get married, and given the fact that everyone worshipped the Beatles, I think most lads would have been tempted. And wealthy musicians get away with a lot. That doesn’t make it right, but I don’t believe there was a life-long pattern here.

I was always surprised that David Bowie never felt a policeman's hand on his collar. Similarly, Mick Jagger. These guys and many others were infamous for their sexual adventures in the 70's. It wasn't exactly a state secret.

The police only seem interested in going after uncool celebrities. See, for example, the possibly gay and definitely Christian Sir Cliff Richard, whose estate was raided by police live on TV because of a single unsubstantiated (and on the face of it, extremely unlikely) claim he touched a kid at a concert 30 years prior.

There are two main reasons I tend to discount the report of his pedophiliac practices. One, he died in 2001 and is therefore not around to defend himself. Two, why are we just now hearing this 50 years after fact? Historians don't become more accurate the further away from an incident. In fact, they have more BS to dig through. Harrison had no noticeable history of this, especially after he was married. Like I said with Lennon's predatory nature with boys in Thailand, there is only one source and it is anecdotal. He never cites any evidence. There is an entire industry devoted to trashing historical figures. And I know there are many individuals that believe that successful people sell their souls to Lucifer. I don't think you can, since it belongs to God. And frankly, if you can, why hasn't there been any decent music in decades? I have also read things that attribute the Beatles song writing to someone or some person's in MI5 or 6. I believe you have been a musician yourself. Have you've tried to write songs of your own? Do you think someone working for some British intelligence agency wrote all of the best music of the 60's? Do you think Lucifer did?

There are people out there who believe James Paul McCartney died in 1966. The "Faul" we know today certainly knows how it feels "To be one of the Beautiful People."

There is a good bit of stuff about it on the interweb, should anyone be so inclined... Does make on think.

None of the Lennon-McCartney material has aged well, but Lennon's post-Beatles material makes one wonder if the devil revoked his end of the soul-for-fame deal after the Beatles broke up. On the available evidence, John Lennon by himself should NEVER have had any kind of significant following.

Blogger Jack April 08, 2018 9:56 PM

I always assumed that lyric was in reference to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, whom the Beatles were all studying under at the time of the White Album. Another song on that album, "Sexy Sadie" was originally written as "Maharishi" and is all about their disillusionment with the cult leader. "Maharishi, what have you done / You made a fool of everyone."

Blogger Lazarus April 08, 2018 10:03 PM

The lyrics taken as a whole show the term "you" to be consistently a second person referential. Therefore, if the crazy days material is true, it does not justify regarding the posted lyric as being a first person reference.

To understand how The Beatles worked, look at their post-Beatles careers.

Starr - did nothing. Years later, became the voice of Thomas the Tank Engine.

Harrison - played some guitar, did a couple of novelty hits.

Lennon - released some hippie/commie solo tracks and poetry, became a professional celebrity.

McCartney - wrote a portfolio of catchy, radio-friendly songs, formed a band, went on tour, released top 20 albums and singles, for a decade.

@Slen- "Tavistock"

I have good reason to doubt my taste in popular culture. Not because things may bot be what they seem. The Beatles, for instance, could be mere frontmen. You know, K-Ultra operatives, cogs in some grand social experiment, or an advertising trick.

No, I've had revelations before. I've found out this or that figure I enjoyed admired was subsidized and/or promoted by the CIA. I don't like feeling manipulated, but I learn from the experience.

Where I don't trust myself is where a junkie doesn't trust himself around dope. Pop music is enjoyable out of proportion to its worth, and I might get diabetes from overindulgence. Plus, they get you as much from throwing stuff against the wall as targeted manipulation. The messages might be innocuous by themselves, and it only adds up to something in the aggregate. Can't be healthy to bombard myself with messages of unkown quality everyday.

All that, and we have a trash culture. That's obvious with modern art and pop muscm, but it's all the way up and down. Even the good stuff is full of trashy or alien or degenerate content. And I tire of trying to separate the uncorrupted parts out.

Actually, I think he makes a pretty reasonable case.

And in another essay pdf (see his website) he also addresses the Paul/Faul conspiracy (Paul has a twin brother and they took turns, then later Faul took over.)
