Announcing Alt-Hero #1: CRACKDOWN... the print edition

From the transcript of the Darkstream: Alt-Hero #1 is now in print!

I'm actually here to talk about something much more interesting and much more exciting in my opinion, and that is something that numerous people claimed was never going to happen. And what that is is the release of Alt★Hero #1 in a print edition no less.

So this is something that's been a long time in coming. We started working on this back, I think really about a year ago. We didn't do the we didn't do the Kickstarter, the Freestartr campaign until I believe it was October, but we were preparing for it before then. And so it's incredibly satisfying to be able to announce that not only have we printed and published Alt★Hero #1, but it is now actually available for order from Castalia Books Direct. It should be available via Amazon within about a week, and I would guess that within two or three days you can go to your local Barnes & Noble, you can go to your local bookstore and find it.

The one place that you're not going to be able to find it yet is the comic book stores because we  aven't started that campaign yet and we're not going to start that campaign until the first volume of Chuck Dixon's Avalon is ready to go.

The video also contains an initial look at two related releases that are coming very soon, releases which may be of interest to both European readers and anyone who is studying certain languages. These initial print editions are, as can be seen from the video, gold logo editions which are available from all outlets until they run out. I will make an announcement when that happens.

UPDATE: Issue #1 is now also available on Amazon.

If single issues via Amazon mail is cost-prohibitive, will there be a collected edition of the first arc in, say, a year?

Blogger VD May 30, 2018 6:01 AM

There will be collected editions, the question is whether they will be of the arc or the initial issues. That's something I need to discuss with the backers. It's possible we'll do both.

Congrats! I don't know how y'all do it all, but keep on doin' it.

YAY! Bought five, can't wait to see and touch! (And share!) Thank you Dark Lord for leading the culture recovery! (Been feeling really down about Tommy Robinson and the loss of Britain... this helps a wee bit.)

My understanding was that you had to go through some crazy hoops to get distributed to LCSs via Diamond. Glad it isn't as onerous as I thought.

You do. We're not going through Diamond. We're breaking their monopoly.

Might I ask how Avalon's doing? The campaign to comic stores that's going to accompany it sounds like a blast, I can't wait for it!

I'd personally prefer by arc, it's nice to have a continuous narrative in one book instead of having to flip between books/files. Feels more coherent to me.

> the release of Alt★Hero #1 in a print edition

All is proceeding according to plan. Carry on.

Chuck Dixon comics under the counter:

"Psst! Hey buddy! I only sell these to certain people."

Blogger Archella May 30, 2018 6:58 AM

Avalanche, just got 3. going to seal them in the vault. no touching! yes, i have also felt that about tommy. we need to fight back. its been really brutal, but listening to vox on the killstream, was a definite confidence booster. just to remind everyone about morale. chin up. think about our ancestors. they fought in much worse conditions.

Bought copies of this and 5 other comics last night on Castalia Books Direct. About as easy as it gets. Went for priority shipping so I might see them by this weekend.

Excellent. The Culture War takes another step forward.

@10 "Ark Haven? Never heard of it." The clerk squealed almost spilling his soymilk. "But you might want to talk to the guy in the parking lot wearing a trenchcoat."

Congratulations, Vox Day. You might be- well let's just say are -a deeply flawed, thin skinned, conspiracy minded Dark Lord, but I cannot think of another name at the moment that is, as you say, taking back ground. Your 'From the Ground up' method should be modeled a million times over by Young Guns from Silicon Valley to the Visegrad. Put down the Ben Shapiro/Jordan Peterson feel good porn and pick up the hammer and the saw and start building things.

Blogger wreckage May 30, 2018 8:46 AM

@15 You don't get to be Supreme Dark lord by being NICE.
People can say what they like about Vox - and I do sometimes - but he gets sh** done. If I had any sort of commercial cultural endeavour going on (like if I started up a comic series called, I dunno, mandible smashers) I would be looking for synergies with SDL, ELoE.

It is an incredible pleasure to support this endeavor. Kudos all the way around!

Merci. The only thing to which I would take objection is the description "conspiracy-minded". I prefer the term "historically aware", as it amounts to precisely the same thing. "Conspiracy" is what they call failed group objectives. If a group objective is successful, it is called "History".

Alt-Hero 1 is very nicely done. It will be interesting to see whether the heroes will be able to get out from under the thumb of the Eurofascists.

@VD

Have you thought about coming up with something like the old Wizard the Guide to Comics magazine?

For those who don't know. Wizard was basically for kids, it had stupid fart jokes and things like that but it treated comic book creators as rock stars.

Interview with "Chuck Dixon!

Top Ten Illustrators!

Here is the List of Titles You Need to Chase Down!

Readers Poll: Best Writer Working Today.

Price Guide (in the back of course)

Like I said, it was entry level stuff for thirteen year old boys. But it was a great promotional tool for the whole industry because everyone knew who the writers and artists were because of it.

Naturally the Gammas in the industry killed it for not featuring them personally each and every month.

Believe it or not there was a time that Comiccons were all about a chance to meet Todd MacFarlane and Ethan van Sciver. Rather than a promotional tool for the latest Marvel movie.

Have you thought about coming up with something like the old Wizard the Guide to Comics magazine?

Hell no. I already have more than enough to do. I really do not need any suggestions about anything from anyone concerning what else I could be doing.

Blogger Cataline Sergius May 30, 2018 11:51 AM

Got it.

Blogger Starboard May 30, 2018 12:34 PM

Vox for someone who wasn't a comics guy did you find yourself enjoying the writing process? Has working with Chuck been keeping you on your toes?

Blogger VD May 30, 2018 1:19 PM

Yes, it's rather like writing a moderately disjointed short story. Working with Chuck has been very helpful, as it gives me a solid standard for which to aim.

Ah, come on Vox. You mean you're not up to partnering with Roseanne to form a new TV network. I'm disappointed. :)

Blogger dtungsten May 30, 2018 2:03 PM

I second The Observer, prefer by arc for a continuous narrative.

Thirded.

And congrats, Vox!

Blogger Lovekraft May 30, 2018 3:10 PM

Just went over to amazon. Two books, one at $3 won't ship to Canada.

The second, at $3.37 has $30 shipping. Um, no.

Blogger David May 30, 2018 4:32 PM

It's available on Amazon UK (though temporarily out of stock). I have ordered a copy.

Blogger Michael Maier May 30, 2018 7:23 PM

Wizard helped kill the comic industry with their idiocy.

Hell... I'm still trying to figure out who the **** Rob Liefeld blew to get a career.
