FBI spy ID'd

The mysterious professor who spied on the Trump campaign for the FBI is identified:
In mid-July 2016, a retired American professor approached an adviser to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign at a symposium about the White House race held at a British university.

The professor took the opportunity to strike up a conversation with Carter Page, whom Trump had named a few months earlier as a foreign policy adviser.

But the professor was more than an academic interested in American politics — he was a longtime U.S. intelligence source. And, at some point in 2016, he began working as a secret informant for the FBI as it investigated Russia’s interference in the campaign, according to people familiar with his activities.

The role played by the source is now at the center of a battle that has pitted President Trump against his own Justice Department and fueled the president’s attacks on the special counsel’s investigation. In a Thursday tweet, he called the probe “a disgusting, illegal and unwarranted Witch Hunt.”

In recent days, Trump and his allies have escalated their claims that the FBI source improperly spied on the campaign.

“Reports are there was indeed at least one FBI representative implanted, for political purposes, into my campaign for president,” he tweeted Friday. “It took place very early on, and long before the phony Russia Hoax became a ‘hot’ Fake News story. If true — all time biggest political scandal!”

There is no evidence to suggest someone was planted with the campaign. The source in question engaged in a months-long pattern of seeking out and meeting three different Trump campaign officials.

The Washington Post — after speaking with people familiar with his role — has confirmed the identity of the FBI source who assisted the investigation, but is not reporting his name following warnings from U.S. intelligence officials that exposing him could endanger him or his contacts.

The source declined multiple requests for comment. An FBI spokeswoman declined to comment.

Page was one of three Trump advisers whom the FBI informant contacted in the summer and fall of 2016 for brief talks and meetings that largely centered on foreign policy, according to people familiar with the encounters.

“There has been some speculation that he might have tried to reel me in,” Page, who had numerous encounters with the informant, told The Post in an interview. “At the time, I never had any such impression.”

In late summer, the professor met with Trump campaign co-chairman Sam Clovis for coffee in Northern Virginia, offering to provide foreign-policy expertise to the Trump effort. In September, he reached out to George Papadopoulos, an unpaid foreign-policy adviser for the campaign, inviting him to London to work on a research paper.
It wasn't too hard to work out this "secret FBI source" thanks to a Daily Caller article linked on Drudge directly below the Washington Post piece.
Two months before the 2016 election, George Papadopoulos received a strange request for a meeting in London, one of several the young Trump adviser would be offered — and he would accept — during the presidential campaign.

The meeting request, which has not been reported until now, came from Stefan Halper, a foreign policy expert and Cambridge professor with connections to the CIA and its British counterpart, MI6.

Halper’s September 2016 outreach to Papadopoulos wasn’t his only contact with Trump campaign members. The 73-year-old professor, a veteran of three Republican administrations, met with two other campaign advisers, The Daily Caller News Foundation learned.
The Washington Post's feeble attempt to spin this is particularly amusing when it goes to the trouble to underline, "There is no evidence to suggest someone was planted with the campaign." They can't even name the guy, but they are certain that no evidence concerning the nature of his involvement with the Trump campaign will be found?

Anyhow, Stefan Halper is a card-carrying neocon and Deep State operative. This is a MUCH bigger deal than Watergate ever was, and indicates that a serious fumigation of the FBI and other federal agencies is in order.

UPDATE: Holy cats, there is NO WAY this guy's actions were even remotely innocent.
Four decades ago, Halper was responsible for a long-forgotten spying scandal involving the 1980 election, in which the Reagan campaign – using CIA officials managed by Halper, reportedly under the direction of former CIA Director and then-Vice-Presidential candidate George H.W. Bush – got caught running a spying operation from inside the Carter administration. The plot involved CIA operatives passing classified information about Carter’s foreign policy to Reagan campaign officials in order to ensure the Reagan campaign knew of any foreign policy decisions that Carter was considering.

The IC is broken. Civilians and regular law enforcement have no idea just how pervasive the progressive rot is in the policy, HR, and "stranglehold" departments (anyone between the nerd legions and their next promotion, cool assignment, and being able to do their actual jobs). An investigation of the FBI would be great in theory, but in order to see any results in practice, you would need to fire and in some cases arrest nearly half the payroll of the FBI, the State Dept, the IRS, the DOJ, and a good third of the NSA (a lot of the actual analysts and hackers are pro-America, but the strangleholders are almost entirely converged), most of the major network news media, and a ton of corrupt federal judges simultaneously. I strongly doubt there is enough public desire for truth or justice for such an honest move to work yet, and who could the God-Emperor trust to pull it off? Once you see the IC from the inside, you understand why empires have to collapse and go broke before they can change course and try something different. Give it a decade or two, and the collapse might bring some breathing room.

WaPo staff are so brave. Russia or (gasp) Trump, could take them out at any moment. Their best defense, as always, is to scream in pain as they hit Trump.

In this timeline, in your face crime is righteous and accusing your opposition of the crimes you have committed, justice. Best satire ever.

It seems Australia's Ambassador to the U.K. is a card carrying CIA tool, having been instructed to a drinking binge with George Papadopoulos to get fake dirt so as to sanitize the fake dirt with a plausible deniability.

Australia via Alexander gave millions to the Clinton Foundation. Obviously to ferry children out of Haiti. Or where did she spend it?

An underdog candidate for President, who during the campaign advocated a much less interventionist foreign policy than his opponent, was deemed a threat to the Deep State. The Deep State illegally tried to undermine his campaign.

I've long found true stories about espionage and intrigue just as interesting as spy fiction.

I'd say it's been this converged since at least the Clinton years. Probably farther back then that. The persistent rumors about the deep state taking out Kennedy would argue much farther back.

Also note that Sen Warner (D) of Intel Committee is sweating blood over more revelations from FBI/CIA--largely because Warner was active in the scheme through a lawyer. Feinstein left that committee and then her aide became an active player in the crimes, too.

So it's not just FBI/CIA; it's a large chunk of (D) aides and Senators--and in the House, its WassermanSchultz and her Paki spies.

After Reagan entered the White House, Halper became Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs.[2] Upon leaving the Department in 1984, he remained a Senior Advisor to the Department of Defense and a Senior Advisor to the Department of Justice until 2001.

@15 Which all comes back to the House and Senate resignations Q described, of which some have already occurred. This simply can't be tried in the usual Federal criminal courts. Military tribunals are the only answer when the DOJ is corrupted. Supposedly there are unpublished Executive Orders waiting in the background for the right timing.

The level of panicked dancing from the MSM, Brenner, Warner, etc., tells me they are very afraid. So yes, some of this definitely will wind up with prison time.

This has been going on for a very long time. WWII pretty much cemented the Cabal's hold and its all been downhill since. They've become bolder as the years have passed and they've consolidated their gains. Kennedy was an anomaly. His father's connections with the underworld - helped him to smash through the gatekeepers. So...they wiped him out. Larry MacDonald had all the dirt on how their system worked - with a tenacious resolve to uproot it all. He also had all the "soft traits" ( looks, charisma) to become president. The Cabal had the Russians shoot down a flight with him on it...before he could get that far.
Trump's election is literally a miracle. It was being at the right place in history at the right time along with a drive to to win that most humans don't have. I think the Cabal sorely underestimated him - to their own detriment. He is shrewdly savvy - with a touch of dark triad traits- that Kennedy didn't have. The Cabal has met their match. For those of the religious persuasion - we need to pray for this man and his family daily. This is truly an epic battle between good and evil.

You are wrong. There has been a serious investigation going on for many months now. About 450 investigators involved, collecting and getting ready to pounce. What needs to be finished first before the "pounce?" DOJ, FBI, and State Department needed to be cleaned up (getting close), then more Federal Judges needs to be placed on the bench by Trump. That last is being held up as much as possible by Left, but not everyone has to be into Judgeships for this to start. Think Tribunals for many.

Everything has already been investigated, and solid proofs are several times over, just a few more ducks to get in a row.

Here is an idea and I suspect some variant is already in place in the service of the enemy:recreate the ZuckFace and Goolag algorithms which identify "deplorables"; this time use the algorithms to identify those in the IC who are part of the #Resistance; when there is sufficient evidence, remove their security clearances and deny them access to government computers/smart phones and servers: a virtual shadow rubber room, any administrator who attempts to surreptitiously restore their buddies'/subordinates' access immediately loses his access.

Blogger Jack Amok May 19, 2018 2:02 PM

The thing that gets me is how stupid their machinations are on the face of it. Papadopoulos is a 24 year old junior nobody in the Trump campaign. Some random guy (not really random, a guy named Mifsud working with Halper) tells him the Russians have thousands of Hillary emails, and Papadopoulos laters tells some other random guy (again, not really random, the Aussie ambassador also working with Halper) what he heard. This somehow translates into plausible evidence to wiretap the Trump campaign?

MAPI of course, but even the average idiot could guess the Russians probably do have Hillary's emails since she was running her own illegal email server. Just like even the average idiot can see through the juvenile Steele "dossier." The only people still believing the DOJ and FBI on this are the true believers and swampwater suckers. That's a big part of why this isn't working, and is in fact backfiring on the Swamp.

As hard as it is to believe, I think the Swamp may have underestimated the intelligence of the average American voter.

@3: At this point, I think Trump's only option will be to declare a state of insurrection and employ the military.

It would be very interesting to do a correlation between the proportion of military veterans, both career and short-service, in the CIA and FBI and the degree to which they indulge in political intervention. I'm betting there IS one...negatively. Military personnel are taught subordination to civilian authority. They may (and often do) despise the elected civilians, but will obey. But once you start bringing in a high proportion of civilians, the politics can get a foothold.

Blogger tublecane May 19, 2018 11:28 PM

The Deep State cabal and their allies in politics and the MSM have shifted from Denial Mode to a fighting withdrawal. Now they justify what had previously been declared not to exist. Their ridiculous rationalizations are funny, but I still have fears about short-attention spans and memory holes.

Part of the point of drip-dripping out information is so that we can get them on record before the next round of revelations. But I'm still trepidatious.

Blogger tublecane May 20, 2018 2:14 AM

Funny thing: I was informed the phrase "not to spy" is trending on Twitter because there's a MSM headline saying something like "DOJ Sent Informant to Trump Campaign to Investigate, Not to Spy."

Blogger tublecane May 20, 2018 3:48 AM

@26- It goes the other way.

It's short-sighted to focus on the military-industrial complex. It's really the Cathedral that runs things, because power is still decided by controlling how people think.

War happens to be where a lot of money is spent, and more still as a share of GDP back in Ike's day.

But that only affects so much. Universities train the brains of everyone who matters everywhere in the Managerial Society.

Blogger tublecane May 20, 2018 3:57 AM

@34- Q keeps saying they are stupid, and I have no trouble believing at least the MSM and political factions are. But maybe it's not even about that.

Do they think we're stupid enough, for instance, to fall for this transsexual nonsense? I don't think so. It's just something we have to believe, because they're going to force it on us We have no choice.

They never thought Clinton would lose, and after she did they had tremendous institutional power and conventional inertia on their side. I truly think they figured all they'd need is A story, not a good one.

And so far it's worked, in a sense. Because people aren't burning down news outlets, and at least some buy it.
