Band or comedy act?

The girls from Band-Maid don't merely rock, they do a considerably funnier comedy routine than Amy Schumer and most so-called professional comediennes. I can't believe they aren't a reality TV show yet.

The contrast between the three cheerful ones and the two killjoys is no doubt played up, but it is consistently funny.

Miku: What is your image of San Francisco, Misa?
Misa: Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary.

The interview on Japanese TV was even funnier.

Takahashi: How about a maid-like greeting?
Saiki: Ah, no.
Takahashi: What's your charm point?
Saiki: I don't have one.

Did I mention they also rock?

vox is such a weeb.

Blogger Lyon June 08, 2018 6:50 PM

@1. Vox is merely eccentric, which is half the draw.

I am also the three-time Machida city champion in the 100m, the 200m, and the 4x100m. Let's not forget that.

I feel like you'd enjoy the show One-Punch Man.

I agree; he probably could learn a lot by watching anime in general. He posts enough about modern jpop that I'm shocked I haven't seen an in-depth breakdown about why Made in Abyss (or ) is the greatest cultural achievement of asia ever.

@ 3. Confirmed. An eccentric sigma. The sigma part is half the draw.

Dark side of the moon, but if it moves you, go for it!

Blogger Randomatos June 08, 2018 7:33 PM

Enjoy? Who do you think inspired them with bald ennui?

Blogger Gloriam Deo June 08, 2018 7:40 PM

@2 oh absolutely.
@3 please tell me you ran those anime style. (also, not hating on your weebiness. just find it amusing. the dark lord is entertained by cute japanese girls who can shred.)

Goooood mornin' little schoolgirl!

Which one is supposed to be Ringo?

Thanks for discovering this band. I have listened to all their albums, and they are very good.

Fresh air in stale rock current scene.

The vibrant and feelgood Japanese pop culture reminds me of the 1950s and 60s American culture.

People genuinely seem to be having a good time and there isn't an ounce of cynicism to be found.

I wonder if their demographics have anything to do with it.

Do they sing a tribute to Hello Kitty?

@12 & 13

Nothing new under the sun, boys.

Beautiful and classy to even funny this group has grown a long way, I am proud of them and thrilled for them!

Japan has a way of encouraging and subsequently mapping the spectra of certain eccentricities.

Assuming Saiki is the one on the front right, the joke is double, as she's the most aesthetically akin to Yamato Nadeshiko.

Word on the street is that Tony Bourdain was their booking agent, but not chef. They preferred pizzas from DC.

The girl on the top right: So would.

If this is your idea of comedy you need to do penance by watching , IDk, a few minutes of Benny Hill of Fawlty towers maybe.

Some people appreciate subtle humor; some just don't get it.

And just to keep the viewer from getting confused, the bright chirpy ones where white, the other two wear all black.

I did laugh at Ah-Chan's answer to what was her favorite anime.

It felt like a "Hello Fellow Otakus" moment.

I'm such a nerd.

Blogger peppermint June 09, 2018 2:26 PM

Lucille Ball from I Love Licy was a commedienne. Amy Schumer and Tig Notaro are boring, miserable losers.

Blogger Dirk Manly June 09, 2018 4:50 PM

Ah, Yes, Luige was hilarious, especially when she got the job in the chocolate factory, but I never could figure out why Itchy Ricardo was never more than just a glorified bit part. And why would ol' Ferd and his wife Methyl decide to move to LA just because a couple of their tenants did?
