Mailvox: moving Voxiversity

A backer wants to know how he can support Voxiversity:
Is it possible to support Voxiversity other than Freestartr?  It appears to be down.
Freestartr is down, apparently thanks to Stripe's shenigans, and they have not been able to get anything up and running in the time period I discussed with them. Nor have any of the backers been able to contribute anything since May. So, after consulting with several backers, I've arranged to get the campaign up on a new site which I will announce as soon as it is ready later this week. I hope most of the backers will be able to make the transition to the new site.

We will have two Voxiversity videos out in August. I've been focusing on building up the Darkstream subscriber base in the meantime. While they are two different channels, from my perspective, it's a single video front, so supporting one is supporting the other. There is a lot of room for improvement, of course, but we are making steady progress, these occasional setbacks and delays notwithstanding. I've also been working on something that will have a major impact on everything from Castalia to Voxiversity, and I hope to be able to announce something about that before the end of October.

In not-entirely-unrelated news, I will be appearing on the Alex Jones show today at 1 PM Central today to discuss comics and culture war, among other things.

And for those of you who have been repeatedly asking me for essential book recommendations, I've put together short book lists for what I consider to be the best in literaturehistory, science fiction, and fantasy at the Castalia Direct Store. I'll be adding to these in the future, this is just a bare-bones beginning.

My only gripe with the existing voxyversity videos is that they are very short.

From a university type of videos I would have expected going more in depth on certain topics. For example in the free trade video you list a lot of bullet points on the reasons why free trading isn't always beneficial but never go in details on any of them.

I understand the need to keep video short in these days where people's attention span is very short, but I was expecting those videos to be the kind that allow the viewer to explore ideas more in depth

Far fewer people will watch them and they will take considerably longer to produce. Given the level of detail you suggest, you're essentially talking about full-fledged 90-minute documentaries. That would cost considerably more than even the backers' generosity would support. Remember, the entire point is to reach people who will not read the books.

If Voxiversity ever reaches Jordan Peterson levels, we can do that sort of thing. The current budget doesn't permit it. However, what I do plan to do is begin discussing the Voxiversity videos on the Darkstream. That will permit questions and going deeper into the subjects.

Okrane, give the Dark Lord a chance. He only began doing Voxiversity videos this year; along with writing several books of his own (e.g., "Corporate Cancer" that we're all slavering for; the finished version of his latest fantasy masterpiece; the Alt Hero 'serieses' (not a word) including writing two of the comics' lines AND editing and managing the production of those plus more; the eventual "SJWs Always Project"; and God and Vox alone know what else!). PLUS, he started a runaway comics empire; he has negotiated and signed contract(s?) for an eventual MOVIE empire; AND he's keeping a publishing company bankrupting many of his fans and Ilk!

He'll get there, but let the man catch some sleep, eh?

Okrane, give the Dark Lord a chance.

It's a fair point. I'd like to go more in-depth, but it already takes too long to produce these videos. We'd have to have enough resources to hire a full-time producer and probably an assistant for me in order to do the sort of documentary videos suggested. I'd like to do them, but keep in mind we haven't had ANY video resources at all coming in since May. Not anybody's fault, of course, but it is sometimes useful to keep that in perspective.

I am very happy to see you put A Canticle for Leibowitz on this list. Remarkable book. Part 3 is one of the most powerful things I have ever read.

Will you be doing a follow up on "why western civilization needs christianity"?

Spent the last 4 years in the Merchant Services industry. If I can be of any assistance throughout this processing, I am happy to help.

Yes, that's the second one.

Vox, have you read Norwich's full three volume work on Byzantium? I've been tempted to get the short history you recommend, but people who have read it always seem to come away wanting much more. If I'm ok for the long haul, should I just get the 3 volume set, or do you still recommend the abridgment?

Vox, have you read Norwich's full three volume work on Byzantium?

Twice. I have it and I love it, but Ingram only has two of the three volumes in the system, for some reason. Get the three-volume set.

Good luck at the show! Promoting Alt Hero comics is always good.

You'd need a writer/researcher, editor (video & text) and someone to manage tech/fill-in aspects to not have it eat up your entire day. Video is deceptively man-power consuming. At the moderately popular YouTube level, it's roughly 10 hours of work per 7 minutes of video. At the professional YouTube level, it's about 40 man-hours per 7 minutes. At the National TV level, it's something ridiculous. Probably close to 1000 man-hours per 5 minutes, possibly higher. (Considering inflated budgets in some of the National News, I wouldn't be surprised if it's something like 3000 man-hours per 5 minutes.)

That doesn't include odd disruptions of income streams.

Thank you.

@1 is that they are very short.

Remember Vine? Most Millennials and Zyklons are too stupid to watch any video longer than 5 seconds. God help us.

Blogger Shimshon July 26, 2018 12:18 PM

@14 No wonder Vine failed, as their videos were SEVEN seconds.

Vox, are you able to put your Darksteams into podcast form? For those of us who don't have time to watch videos but do have a podcast playlist running, would be a great addition. I do appreciate the summary transcript and will be content with that.

I also prefer them in mp3 format. So I take the YouTube video and convert the audio using this website: Online video converter

There are several similar websites for converting.

Book recommendations! Awesome.

"I am very happy to see you put A Canticle for Leibowitz on this list. Remarkable book. Part 3 is one of the most powerful things I have ever read."

I just finished it like a week ago. Incredible.

Is the sequel any good? The reviews seem mixed.

No.

Thanks. That saves me some time.
