Response and Reprisal

I was asked to give a statement about the attack on Alt-Hero by Dynamite Comics's Atari's Centipede #4 by Bounding Into Comics:
Vox Day and Arkhaven Comics, who were insulted in Dynamite Comics and Atari’s Centipede #4 by writer Max Bemis, artist Eion Marron, and letterer Taylor Esposito has issued an exclusive response.

The comic insulted Day and Arkhaven Comics’ ongoing series Alt Hero by calling it “a joke” in an alien language.

Vox Day issued a statement regarding the insult in Centipede #4:

“We’re not even remotely surprised to see that our lesser competitors are frightened of what Arkhaven, Dark Legion, and Alt-Hero represent. Radical change is coming to the comics industry, and it is coming faster than they believe possible.”

He also wanted to share the cover for Alt-Hero #3, which is expected to be released this upcoming Monday, August 6th.
Have a look at it there. Warning, some may find it... triggering. But the attack on Alt-Hero was pretty mild compared to the very nasty, and personal, attack on Arkhaven and Castalia House author Jon Del Arroz.

I'm honestly confused, they issue an insult about ark haven but the alien that said it promptly get's killed in the next frame by the centipede man who say's "I think not" prior to killing him.

So I read it as the dwarf guy insulting ark haven and the centipede dude killing him in retaliation which makes it appear pro-ark haven? Probably it wasn't their intent, but if it wasn't for others saying this was an insult I would never have thought of it as such given how the stripe flows.

Given that I am struggling to see how the author could have ever thought that was an effective insult.

John F. Trent, the editor at Bounding Into Comics says he likes to dabble in economics and philosophy.

Vox, have you sent him eConcomics yet? That'd be hilarious if he did a review. Might uncover a huge untapped market or not.

We're not dealing with the rapier-witted creme de la creme of the social world here. But based on the attacks on Jon Del Arroz, it's pretty clear that it was intended as an sneaky, snarky attack on Alt-Hero.

Whenever the Left gets caught being uncivilized a-holes, they ALWAYS say, "It's just a joke." as if there's something wrong with you for being offended by their attack on you.

On the other hand, make an ACTUAL joke about anybody in their victimology zoo, and you're 10,000 times worse than Hitler himself.

Roll Tide. Heck of a cover, and an excellent model ... of weapon safety. If she has some API rounds in the magazine, then we get sparkles and a pink rifle. Perfect.

This should have a big triggering effect. The date was selected for best impact on Monday. However, this coming Moday's date was when Harry T. took the big flash picture of Hiroshima. There's a plausible Alt-Hero tie-in, after all.

#3 cover looks great!

Blogger Starboard August 02, 2018 4:48 PM

That cover though, so problematic. I count four triggers with Rebel alone. No, I count six possible offenses. So bad, much shame.

There's a legend about a typesetter for the Daily Worker changing every instance of "comrade" to "commrat." They couldn't fire him because he was union.

The letterer says it was an intern. Hmmm.

@VD is this more of that mid-wit thing, were at a certain level of intelligence you are capable of double think, but incapable of being articulate?

Blogger S. Misanthrope August 02, 2018 5:11 PM

Haha, love that Jon leveraged it to get a plug for Flying Sparks.

Blogger Looking Glass August 02, 2018 5:22 PM

I can't wait for Nate's response.

Blogger Jon D. August 02, 2018 5:25 PM

Best AH cover yet, Vox!

Blogger Killua August 02, 2018 5:28 PM

Alt-Hero 3 on Monday? Awesome!!

Blogger David The Good August 02, 2018 5:35 PM

I don't expect artists to be a brain trust or anything, but that was really dumb.

By the way, Jon, nice work on Knight Training. Solid little novella. Your productivity is impressive.

Blogger electricsheeple August 02, 2018 5:44 PM

Well this all good press for Arkhaven. All the cryptic insults will do is drum up interest in Alt Hero and get people talking about it.

Blogger dvdivx August 02, 2018 5:48 PM

Its almost like free advertising. I was more impressed with marvel making vox a villain.

Blogger Theproductofafineeduction August 02, 2018 5:51 PM

With enemies like this you don't need friends Vox.

Blogger Looking Glass August 02, 2018 5:56 PM

In seemingly related news, GenCon is currently burning itself to the ground. Only figuratively at the moment, but give it another day.

Blogger Longtime Lurker August 02, 2018 5:59 PM

Classic passive aggressive behavior. Conflict-averse gutless wonders all the way down.

Blogger IncoherentM August 02, 2018 6:14 PM

I see good trigger discipline.

Blogger tuberman August 02, 2018 6:36 PM

Yep, turns out their ambivalence was merely the usual passive-aggressive, cowardly fear of being direct. Sneaky, snarky is funny, and not in a good way for them. THEY ARE THE JOKE!

Blogger Lovekraft August 02, 2018 7:09 PM

One is usually asked by the wise to put ourselves in our enemies' shoes and try and find some common ground and mutual interest.

That is easier said than done, but then again, this age is no worse than many past eras in which people were hoping to just survive another day. Most of our fears have been fueled by the media and various other interests, so in a way, the SJW is more like an automaton or cultist that is too far invested in its identity.

I think society will move past the Obama era but for the foreseeable future, the realignment is going to be messy.

Blogger Looking Glass August 02, 2018 7:37 PM

In the "well, the day keeps getting better", it appears Patreon decided to move to a payment processor in the UK. And it appears they just murdered the income of most of their user base in the process with denied charges. The cries of SJWs were heard this day.

It was a good day.

Colonel Rebel needs to be Rebels nemesis or Coach Freeze.

Blogger Zeroh Tollrants August 02, 2018 8:18 PM

This is the most low status humanly thing ever. I get a cringey knot in my stomach from 2nd hand embarrassment when "men" do things like this.

Blogger Hunsdon August 02, 2018 10:04 PM

The God Emperor supports punching back.

Blogger Greg Hunt August 02, 2018 10:30 PM

I missed CDA#1. Any chance the link will be made active again?

Blogger Xellos August 03, 2018 2:44 AM

I just found it confusing. "Was the author on drugs or something?"-level confusing.

Blogger Were-Puppy August 03, 2018 1:57 PM

Secret king putting secret messages into comics?
