Review of Alt-Hero #3

Bounding Into Comics reviews AH#3: Reprisal:
Even with its slower pace, the world that’s being expanded on in Alt-Hero #3 is an interesting one and this issue, more than any before it, sends some harrowing echoes throughout its universe that will, eventually, come to an explosive head. I am thoroughly interested in seeing how this will all play out and I fully expect to see people switching sides before the end. It echoes with shades of the best parts of Marvel’s Civil War storyline (the first one, not that second one) and anyone who takes the time to invest in this new comic universe will, I believe, be as excited as I am for the future. With art that continues to improve every issue and a handful of conflicted heroes fighting for what they believe is right, Arkhaven Comics has a great thing going with Alt-Hero. Issue #3 is less exciting, but no less satisfying.
Read the whole thing there. You know Arkhaven is already beginning to make an impact because the goalposts are moving and now the fake reviews are starting to appear. It should be amusing to see how they react to our next big action, which begins very soon.

Pretty Bad Stuff
By Amazon Customer on August 6, 2018
I'm not sure why this exists. It's a bad imitation of super hero comics from the early 90s with a hefty dose of cooky right wing flavor. If you'd like to read some decent comics with a right leaning bent, I'd suggest Frank Miller or some of Alan Moore's stuff. Their writing is not only masterful, but their politics have purpose - not just, "We miss big breasts in comics and are mad about 'SJWs'", which seems to be the main thrust of this series.

If you hate SJWs more than you like good comics, you'll love this book.

If the fact that the name is a reference to the "alt-right" is a selling point for you then you will pick up the book and claim it is "refreshing" because the hero is a straight white male who is awesome. Fine whatever, there are totally NONE OF THOSE in comics. If you want to read something that makes you feel good about hating SJWs it's a great book. If you want to read a good superhero comic book and don't care about politics read literally anything else. Pick up any random trade of Superman, Batman, Spider-Man (all straight white men if it matters) and you get ten times better stories.

In other comics-related news, congratulations to Brandon Fiadino, whose Chicago Typewriter: The Red Ribbon was nominated for a Dragon Award in the Best Graphic Novel category!

Alan Moore is right wing now?

Blogger Mr.MantraMan August 06, 2018 7:09 PM

The first idiot review is of course dishonest in one way. When I read some left wing comic artist's rant against the alt-right as racist or white sooooopremicis I automatically assume that the same artist draws idealized white women with large breasts, that assumption never lets me down. Not even that gay clown at that recent convention could escape the lure of white women with huge breasts.

Blogger electricsheeple August 06, 2018 7:13 PM

I was just going to say that Damn Son. He's held himself out as a left wing anarchists for years. (The ancappers would be an example of right wing anarchist). I don't think Alan Moore gave a damn about his nation.

The difference between Watchmen and Dark Knight Returns is that Watchmen was blackpilled while Dark Knight Returns was red pilled. when the state breaks down in DKR, Batman uses nationalist-tribalism at the local level to bring order to the city.

In Watchmen you are just left blackpilled at the end.

Its all fun and games until Vox and his VFM start calling out fake reviewers.
Then the real screeing begins

He says that like its a bad thing.

...because the hero is a straight white male who is awesome.
1) Heh, they still think “Alt-Hero” is the title character.
2) xe has chosen the form of xer Destructor.

What a impressive layout, bravo, great work to the staff!

And I adore the Lady character! So Beautiful.

Blogger Damelon Brinn August 06, 2018 7:43 PM

Why, I *do* hate SJWs more than I like good comics. Good recommendation!

I SURELY hope her pledge nickname was Eagle Eye. Rebel would have been too much foreshadowing.

So, old street or new street sorority house? Where in the pecking order?

Check your spam and check your social folder. EVERY backer was sent an email. We regret that we cannot guarantee their arrival, but we can't do any more than send them.

You're definitely over the target...

Neither negative review is associated with a verified purchase.

But their anal beads and gallon of lube are.

Thanks for reminding me to post a review.

He's woefully out of date on his Spiderman knowledge or he would know about Miles Morales. And with Bendis now at DC, the question for the others is "for how long".

Blogger Daniel Babylon August 06, 2018 9:25 PM

Any idea who might be staging these fake reviews?

Blogger Lance E August 06, 2018 10:40 PM

Hardcover backer here - my digital copies are coming in, but since I use Gmail (yeah, yeah) it always gets punted into the "promotions" folder/label. This has happened with all four digitals so far.

So if you use Gmail, and think you aren't getting them, don't just check spam, also check "promotions".

Blogger widlast washere August 06, 2018 10:53 PM

I'm not a fan of comics, never have been. Funded this as a way of thumbing my nose at the SJWs.
That being said, the art is quite good, character placement in the frames is good, expressions of the characters is excellent, writing is good, story line good. With each successive release everything is getting better. In time this may well be and industry changer.

On a side note, all the excerpts of Marvel and D.C. stuff I've seen posted here have been gag inducing.

Blogger Forge the Sky August 06, 2018 11:07 PM

@Lance E

Had the same problem, I was confused because it only started doing it with this issue. If you move the email from 'social' to 'primary,' it asks you if you'd like to do this automatically for that sender; I hit 'yes,' I imagine that will solve it.

It's not a big deal, but I don't check the social folder - so I don't get to see it until it's officially released here.

Blogger David The Good August 06, 2018 11:42 PM

Hard to believe Jack Broccoli didn't make it through the Dragon Award nominations. Sad!

Congrats to Brandon and team. I voted for Chicago Typewriter.

Blogger wreckage August 07, 2018 2:20 AM

Bought it and read it.
Very positive about this (although pull your artist up for three frames duplication without even changing zoom!)

There's a major improvement in the art, but I also see an improvement in the scripting and how the story and dialogue is matching and working with the sequential format. This issue was more at once more fluid, distinct and integrated; as in each scene flowed well, each panel was more distinct, and yet each panel was also better displaying the scene AND better tying the sequential narrative together.

Speech bubbles and lettering were probably a major if subtle factor in play.

All in all, this issue looked properly pro. If Vox impresses me as much with plot and character as he has in his recent fantasy work, AND we see this honing of the total product in future, the series is going to be a classic.

Blogger Don't Call Me Len August 07, 2018 3:16 AM

Both reviews demonstrating yet again that "SJW" burns them up like a urinary tract infection, and we need no other term, despite regular claims to the contrary.

I'm just here for the Rebel fanservice

Blogger Steven Meert August 07, 2018 4:45 AM

Hi Vox, when will the hardback 1-3 volume freestartr go out to backers?

Blogger Shimshon August 07, 2018 5:04 AM

@27 Steven, while the Freestartr campaign says each printed volume has three issues, Vox has since apprised everyone that each one will actually have SIX, so it won't be printed until after Alt Hero #6 is released.

Blogger Steven Meert August 07, 2018 5:45 AM

@28 Thanks

Blogger James Dixon August 07, 2018 6:11 AM

Interesting fact: When I went to review the comic, Amazon sent a verification code to my email address before allowing me to complete the review. It seems obvious they're doing this to weed out fake reviews.

Blogger VD August 07, 2018 6:17 AM

Hi Vox, when will the hardback 1-3 volume freestartr go out to backers?

A VOLUME is two ISSUES. So, we're only halfway there.

Blogger Shimshon August 07, 2018 6:37 AM

This must not be common knowledge. That is an even better deal. Wow.

A Volume always containst > 1 issues.

Otherwise, it would be the equivalent of a photo album with just one picture, or an art gallery with only one piece of artwork in it.

Most monthly magazines, a volume is 12 issues.

If you have just one issue... then that's what you have... an issue.
