There will be no "Blue Wave"

There is no upset in Ohio:
Troy Balderson (R) has 50.2 percent of the vote with 100% of precincts in, compared to 49.3 percent for Danny O'Connor (D).
The Trump Derangement Syndrome we saw after the election is only going to get worse when the Republicans hold the House in November.

The Republicans have now won 8 out of 9 House Seats, yet if you listen to the Fake News Media you would think we are being clobbered. Why can’t they play it straight, so unfair to the Republican Party and in particular, your favorite President!

I grew up in that district and now live in a neighboring one, and I can tell you it's not the same one that the media keeps harping about as being "solidly GOP since 1982." It used to be mostly rural, with some reliable red suburban towns, and a little blue urban thrown in to offset the dem vote in some other districts (yes, gerrymandering 101). Like most congressional districts, the borders have been altered several times over the years, and the last one 5 years ago changed it to include different areas of Columbus that are notorious for being crazy left-wing enclaves. The other parts of the district have seen tremendous growth of every demographic, so it's now very different than it was when I was growing up. Of course, the media ignores all of this, because Narrative. Plus, throw in 2 brand new unknown candidates, and the Dems throwing a ton of outside $$$ into the race, it's no wonder it was close. But I suspect the lefties have utilized all the force they can muster, and the Nov election will see the GOP rep win by a much more comfortable margin when the rural areas of the district kick it into gear for the regular election (we usually have a higher % voter turnout than the urban areas do in Ohio).

Blogger Mr.MantraMan August 08, 2018 8:46 AM

There is something to the "Woman gap" or whatever it is called. Two of my wife's elderly relatives plus my womanish "thinking" BIL are in the outrage and concern cult being created by the media.

I assume it's CNN or MSNBC doing the indoc of basically shut ins getting an endorphin rush by being outraged and concerned on command and it literally is command, today's O&C supercedes yesterday's O&C as if yesterday's does not exist.

Blogger SemiSpook37 August 08, 2018 8:47 AM

With provisional ballots and absentees left, it theoretically could swing back to O'Connor, but I doubt it.

I do find it amusing that the Dems have so easily turned on the Greens in this race. There was a significant contribution to the overall gap, but even if you added those to O'Connor's total, he's still 600+ short.

I think the other factor was Balderson's swipe at Franklin County, which energized the Dems' base there. An unforced error, to be sure, and something that will likely not happen again in the run up to November.

Blogger Uncle John's Band August 08, 2018 8:48 AM

The blue wave was always as much a media fiction as Hillary up 10. The only arguments were a decontextualized historical pattern and aggressively ignoring how irrelevant uniparty patterns are in the current year. Sort of ironic when put that way.

What is interesting are the insane Dem numbers. Must be nice to have some raw material for dealing with fraud in November.

Blogger Cary August 08, 2018 9:09 AM

I live in a neighboring district and will soon be moving into this district. This is only a small portion of Franklin county with mostly R voting rural / suburban areas.

The issue is turnout. The D has 89% of the 2016 congressional vote while the R only has 40%. In all the special elections, the D’s have shown much higher turnout. I don’t think this seat will be that much in play come Nov, as R turnout will improve, and D turnout is already maxed out. But it could be enough to be a factor in more marginal districts.

A blue wave is a fiction, but D’s could narrowly win the house if R’s are complacent and don’t turn out. I think the GE realizes this, though, and that is why he is signaling a big immigration fight right before the mid-terms to energize his voters.

Blogger wreckage August 08, 2018 9:11 AM

Typically as I understand it, the incumbent should be losing elections at this time. Not holding them, however narrowly.

Trump has overcome the only real Republican reservation: the economy. It is red hot. I predicted that off energy market reform, Wreckage Clan Patriarch predicted it off red-tape reform; and right here on your regular channel, Vox predicted it off aggressive reconfiguration of trade.

It hasn't all kicked in yet. Trumps economic numbers will look like some sort of hoax to people who have no understanding of economics; but we see at least three rules of thumb that were and will be predictive.

For close to twenty years western economies have worked despite having literally EVERY major policy setting turned directly against them. The breakout will be impressive.

The Blue Wave is dead, Trump will get a second term, and right-wing nationalism is wired in as the people's choice for a generation.

The big take away here is that a Trump endorsement is pretty f%&king far from the kiss of death that the #NeverTrumpers were claiming it was.

Kobach may or may not overthrow the sitting governor but the fact that he is as close as he is right now speaks volumes.

Trump backed candidates in Michigan have won big. I am really hoping that James can turn Stabenow out of office. It's not like she's a tower of charisma. The secret to her success so far has been weak GOP candidates.

John James is young, Trump backed, a West Point Apache pilot and most important of all for Detroit...Black. Easily the toughest candidate she has ever faced.

Worst case scenario:

Right now Stabenow is considered safe, James is going to put her seat real danger. Which means the Democrats are going to have to divert resources away from more marginal raises to support her.

Best case:

James and Schuette both win. #RedStateMichigan

Good. I want to see new exciting levels of insane craziness and psychosis. I want to hear millions of Yoko Ono screams, and see millions of shuddering human forms in fetal positions.

And for those who believe, "OMG, it was really close in Ohio! Shouldn't we be worried?" think about it this way.

Imagine how demoralized the other side is. They threw everything at this special election. Their candidate was completely stealth, appearing as a "reasonable" centrist, and young and good looking to boot.

And they STILL couldn't win, even with enthusiasm, resources, turnout (and yes, voter fraud) in their favor.

Imagine, too, the next round, as the losers try AGAIN to make it happen. The will is going to be MUCH weaker. Conversely, the winners can go back again, especially to the less engaged, and say, "Look it was pretty close last time, let's not even give them a snowball's chance in hell. Let's crush 'em."

And a crushing it will be.

In the Senate, the R's will make gains, as the D's are in a position with much more to lose. MSM down plays that. Many of the seats up for grabs to the D's in congress were held by comped, globalist R's who were forced to retire or be charged with the criminal activities they were part of in the past.

Blogger John Calla August 08, 2018 10:37 AM

High Democrat turnout has definitely been a recurring theme in all of these special elections. I saw that Steve Bannon recently said that Trump has lost the women's vote (based on some polling it's grown to a 20-30 point gap).

They're definitely motivated, and turnout wins elections. When you have a million women descend on DC dressed up in pussy costumes to demonstrate against the president, you better believe they're motivated. When did we ever turn out in those numbers to demonstrate Obama?

The strategy for November will be to motivate Republicans to get out while at the same time completely demoralizing the Democrats so that they stay home. Firing Democrats up is a bad strategy. The whole Mueller probe has been a great tool for keeping Democrats engaged and motivated.

Urban, populous Franklin County went 65%/34% for Dem; Bedroom suburb Delaware County went 54%/37% for Republican; The rural bits of the other counties went 62%/37% for Republican. There was a Green candidate in the race who got ~1100 votes (the margin of victory was 1754 votes).

It will only be a Red Tide if we get out the vote.

"I'm stocking up on ammo and hitting the range every week now."

COMBAT shooting is less about shot-placement and more about who is first to pull the trigger while aimed accurately enough to get a hit. Once the bogie is down, you can finish him off with a follow-up shot. The important thing is, be the first to get in a hit on your opponent.

I suggest, if you can get to a range that has pop up targets, zero your sights, and then spend the rest of the days shooting at pop-ups

If you don't have a range with pop-up targets available, set some out on stands, at distances ranging from 50m to 300 m. Set 2 out at 50 m, on extreme left and extreme right (requiring about 20 degrees of swing from center-of-the-lane to be aimed at the target). Have a buddy call off target ranges randomly (and the 50, left or right).
Time to shoot
50 - 2 seconds
75 - 3 seconds
100 - 4 seconds
150 - 5 seconds
200 - 6 seconds
250 - 8 seconds
300 -10 seconds

For added fun, allow him to call off 2 ranges
(say, 100/250). You have to get BOTH targets
in 8 seconds alloted, and you have better have
the first shot at the 100 within 2 seconds or so.

try to get your hands on shoulder/head silhouttes
for the 50/75/100m targets, and upper body silhouttes
for the rest. If you can only find upper body, then
just cut them off about 5 inches below the shoulder
(the purpose is to simulate what an enemy shooter,
laying in the prone, and aiming AT YOU will look like,
and what that person presents as a target you MUST
hit before he hits you).

I would suggest doing this with some friends.
1 guy calls off the distances, and calls when your alloted time for that target runs out.
a 2nd and 3rd guy watch your targets with binos to see if you
hit.

You will need to cover each target with some of that
"reactive" stuff that is a black coating over dayglo yellow or dayglo orange, and leave a nice big, bright spot around each hit.

Also, you want enough repair pasters (if you can't get repair pasters, just by some more targets to cut up into pasters... cheaper than papering over each silhoutte in full for each shooter.)

US Army standard for this course of fire:
20 rounds fired from the prone (supported) (i.e. you can use sandbags)
10 round fired from prone (unsupported)
10 rounds fired from kneeling (unsupported) -- no leaning against a stump or wall or anything. a sandbag IS allowed under the ankle ... but that's only because in an actual combat situation where you would drop to the kneeling position, you aren't going to be in that position long enough for fatigue to set in.

On at least 1 day each summer, Camp Perry offers civilians a chance to shoot on an Army pop-up range and shoot the army's rifle qualification course of fire. I don't know if you need to show proof of NRA membership/U.S. military ID to participate, or if it is open to the general public.

The 2nd Amendment is not extra-constitutional, and it exists PRECISELY to protect the ability of the aggrieved to start a civil war AND WIN.

Ohio Voter ID requirements as per: https://www.sos.state.oh.us/elections/voters/id-requirements/

An original or copy of a current utility bill with the voter’s name and present address;
...
For utility bills, bank statements, government checks, paychecks, and other government documents, “current” is defined as within the last 12 months. “Utility bill” includes a cell phone bill.

There is lots of room for fraud there for anyone Joshing around.

That's a severe exaggeration. The employment population ratio is still only 60.5%. It was over 64% as recently as 2000. See https://data.bls.gov/timeseries/LNS12300000

> Ohio does require ID, but I guarantee that the big city precincts register illegals and allow anyone to vote ALL the time.

Of course, but this isn't a big city district, so the results are cause for concern. There's no cause for panic, but we obviously need to improve turnout in special elections.

Blogger Garuna August 08, 2018 1:07 PM

And another thing this analysis fails to consider is in the last election, a “never Trump” republican candidate won by a36 point margins...In this special election, the Trump endorsed candidate, may not even squeak by with 1 point....this is something to worry about, not celebrate.

2016 was filled with analysis like this. It lead to the prediction that Hillary would win in a landslide with Texas going blue. In the end, it was all bullshit. So I am going to ignore this recycled panic porn.

Over the past 2 years, I've made a shortlist of guys who proven themselves credible. The top of that list is Ali Alexander. He's a Republican political operative who is directly connected to the White House. He has a perfect prediction track record, he's influenced Trump's policy, and he's broken plenty of big news. Also he's from Cernovich's circle which makes him a legitimate MAGA guy for me. This is what he says, and based on his track record, I think this is what is going to happen:

Republicans will gain seats in the Senate. Democrats will gain seats in the House, though not as many as Republicans gained during Obama's midterms. Ultimately, the House could go either way.

Additionally, Trump is pissed off about the social media interference in the midterms and he's going to take action to get them under control. Executive Orders coming soon, perhaps more after that. Even cuckservative Republicans are pissed off about the shadowbanning.
https://www.patreon.com/posts/president-will-20615708?utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter&utm_campaign=postshare

Most importantly, Mueller's investigation is going to end before the midterms. And Trump will be cleared. This will certainly deflate the Democrat turnout. And could be a deciding factor in us retaining the House.

Sadly, no information on whether the Wall funding will happen before or after the midterm election. Though I hope it's before.

Blogger Damelon Brinn August 08, 2018 1:08 PM

It makes sense that Democrats would do better in special elections, where they can focus their advantage in national organization and institutions, including the media, upon a few races. That outside attention affects voters who worry about what the rest of the country thinks.

Blogger James Dixon August 08, 2018 1:10 PM

I don't expect any wall funding to happen before the Sept. 30th deadline. And thus I expect a government shutdown come Oct. 1st. At that point who knows what will happen.

"They're definitely motivated, and turnout wins elections. When you have a million women descend on DC dressed up in pussy costumes to demonstrate against the president, you better believe they're motivated. When did we ever turn out in those numbers to demonstrate Obama?"

MILLIONS went to work, EVERY DAY.

It's EASY to whip up 1M when you're talking about a portion of the population of whom over 100M either don't work, or are recieving $80k/year in subsidies, or only work "extra play money" jobs.

There's absolutely no comparison.

The Right-wing doesn't march in the street, because the right-wing doesn't believe in sitting around doing nothing, all day, every day, while someone else pays for his housing, clothing and food. Conversely, when you're on the dole, you can go out and do protest marches every day of the year.

That's one of the reasons the Dems are so insistent on always increasing welfare ... MORE DEMONSTRATORS.

I'm a patient with the Detroit VA. This works there. I don't know how it works at other VA hospitals

If you have an assigned Primary Care physician, then just
go to whatever desk that physician's patients check in at.

Detroit VA has a clipboard full of slips for "walk-ins" which
ask if you want to see your physician, or if you just need
something simple, like an Rx renewed so you can get another

When I have dropped in at my physician's desk, I've been able

Marcus Marcellus wrote:Unless deportations are taking place and the legal immigrant status of hundreds of thousands brought in under Obama are being revised, this may be the final time Republicans hold some of these states. The fact that it's this close should worry the hell out of you. Trump is barely holding above 50% and the entire other side is Leftists. There are no parties or candidates to the Right of Trump, and he's holding on by his fingernails. The writing is on the wall. Electorally, they will win in the USA. It's only a matter of time. Only extra-constitutional measures could stave this off.
You're wrong.
The Constitution shows exactly how to win — Article 4, Section 4:
“The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened), against domestic Violence.”

So, send the Army to the borders with orders to secure it, authorizing lethal force.
The backlash form Congress [and the media] would be spectacular; they'd be unable to help themselves from impeaching Trump... but, the fun is this: you can't legitimately impeach the president for upholding the Constitution and preventing invasion, to do so is to give the invaders aid and comfort. This is what the Constitution defines as Treason.

And, guess what.
The Congress isn't immune for arrest for charges of Treason.

And that's w/o doing something like timing it so that it's concurrent with breaking the Tech-industry with a RICO case (there's tons of fraud in the H1B system), where you could have force-multipliers of "you have to go back" given real action.

I'm hoping that the irregular GOP voters can be turned out this fall, as I do think there is a lack of enthusiasm for Congress. Voting for them is like voting for Jeb Bush over Hillary Clinton - it's a choice of Bad over Worse.

I do NOT expect Mueller to have his investigation wound up. Not this year, not next year, not until late 2020...when he'll try to do something to play with the election. I'm old enough to remember seeing this script back in 1992.

With any luck, Q will be right. Sometime between Labor Day and Columbus Day, Trump needs to throw the book at the Democrats. Lock them ALL up.

Remove voter fraud and those razor thin margins would change.

Unfortunately for us, that would require Sittin-on-his-ass Sessions to muster up the gumption to do something. At this point, I'm resigned to him spending all day rubbing himself with his double-super-secret-sealed indictments like Scrooge McDuck in his money vault. Trump supporters are getting railroaded by effing bastards who supposedly work for Sittin' and he can't stir himself to do anything. Whatever Sessions is doing, it's what Trump wants him working on. More than likely, among all of the tens of thousands of sealed indictments are people involved in the election rigging.

Trust the Plan.

Imagine the chaos among the D's (and lack of time to recover) if all of the key people in election-fraud in the big cities are all arrested in October ... and a good case for no bail is made that each and every one of them is an international flight risk.

In this game, TIMING is everything.

I prefer the word "timely". A good plan executed now beats a perfect plan execute too damn late. There's hardly a single damn GOP yard sign in WA state. Now, I don't put much stock in yard signs, they're moronic, but people aren't putting them out because they don't want their cars keyed, their windows broken, their houses torched, or their bosses hounded into firing them. The motherhumping AG is leaving the field completely open to the enemy to assault his side with no repercussions. Meanwhile rogue prosecutors - some in the department he is supposed to be running - are persecuting people associated with Trump and giving Dem propagandists ammunition.
