Gun Ghoul, ComicsGate, and copyright

Bounding Into Comics covers the mysterious case of four titles being blocked at Amazon last month:
Amazon recently took down Dark Legion Comics and Will Caligan’s Gun Ghoul issues. All four issues were blocked from Amazon’s store and unavailable to customers for a little over week. This block specifically applied to digital editions of the books. Print editions were not affected.

Amazon claimed the books might have had a possible copyright infringement. However, upon further review they discovered there was no copyright infringement and the books were once again available to be purchased.

This isn’t the first time that one of Vox Day’s publishing companies has had their books removed from Amazon. Vox Day tells us that Johan Kalsi’s Corrosion was unpublished multiple times when it was released in 2017. At the same time Gun Ghoul was taken down, Amazon also removed Corrosion from their store citing misleading information. However, that book has also been restored and is now available on Amazon.
If you're targeted by SJWs, you have to expect there will inevitably be shenanigans. Don't freak out, don't worry, don't be surprised, and don't lose your temper. Often, upon investigation, the SJW will turn out to have crossed a line and even the most SJW-amenable authority will force them to retreat.

This reminds us: What has our favorite accomplished geneticist and 6’-3” ex-Finnish marine been up to?

Any chance of getting said SJW fired for the infraction? As you have pointed out before, using their tactics against them is not stooping to their level as long as we don't continue the practice once the scales are balanced again.

There is no way of even identifying him.

Blogger pdwalker October 03, 2018 2:06 PM

Well, that answers my first question.

2nd question: will there be more books in the Corrosion series?

Ive been waiting anxiously for 'Corrosion and Umpire' too. Servo hired to manage the Yankees.

Trump now speaking directly to us. Orders to round up the cucks and traitors coming soon.

The only entity that can possible identify the person is Amazon, unless somebody self identifies.

Perhaps a fake copyright notice filed by fake account, that was possibly used by sympathetic SJW within Amazon to put a block on it. Or was just a fake copyright notice filed with Amazon.

Amazon usually shoots first, ask questions later with the author/publisher needing to prove their innocence.

Less than two days after Amazon sent me an email with subject New Release from Vox Day; I receive another email from Amazon, this time announcing the release of AH#4 (actual release date Sept. 1)

Is someone at Amazon keeping an eye on VP? Here's my post from Monday:

Hmmm, wonder what it is? Clicked on email and turns out it's for QM#3 on Kindle released on Aug. 8.

These emails are not very timely and as I've never even seen an email from Amazon for AH#1-4, I'm beginning to think some SJW inside Amazon could be responsible.

Exactly. I'm sure someone at Amazon is well aware of who's responsible though, and it will be taken into account eventually. Bezos still wants to make money.

Huh. That's odd; it would be almost trivial to have such an identifying audit-trail in the database. (Which would be massively useful for debugging, at the very least.)

In any case, I'm quite pleased with Alt-Hero and looking forward to reading both the Q and Flying Sparks titles when they come out. Thank you for all your work in the culture wars.

It's just comics you've had this happen to? Not had a problem with anything else?

Keep in mind that many, maybe all, SJWs are certifiably crazy. Normal rules of logic do not apply.
They seriously do not remember things the way that events happened, but it is filtered through their twisted mental maps.
They can beat polygraphs.

Nor do they let profits and business reputation and the probability that they will be caught stay their hands. They are very short term thinkers.

Why would you think we have access to Amazon's employee database? Of course Amazon knows who it is. I suspect that's why CORROSION was republished so quickly. But we don't.

My mistake. In any case, I was going to suggest that if it were to continue happening, it might possibly be something that the cbldf would be willing to address -- not legally, as Amazon can sell what they want. But they've broached the topic before re Amazon, spoke up about it at least, and I think... hope... the industry still understands that attempts to restrict distro for any reason harm us all. As the great Chuck Dixon once said, comics should be a brotherhood beyond politics.

The people who made up that industry are no longer in charge. The people running things now don't care.

Why don't you ask him how that's worked out?

There was a pretty historically limited time frame when the people running things did care.

Golden Age pubs still remembered the last gasps of the New York Society for the Suppression of Vice from the pulp era (and long before of course, and Comstock's other nonsense). Newsstand Distro historically before that period did not take risks, generally. But when the person who has authority over your industry has broad powers to determine what's acceptable and not on his determination alone, and if not, you're going to jail... and he also happens to be a madman who boasted in print of forcing 15 people to commit suicide by doing this... well.

Then, sometime later, the industry threw Gaines under the bus to get Kefauver (a Dem, ambitious and stunningly short-sited) off their backs. We learned our lesson from that for a short period, but practically speaking... it's often been a challenge. Certainly, it's not that debatable that the industry pre-1956 did what they had to, and 1956-1980 didn't care.

After that... Perelman, probably didn't care. Paul Levitz likely did because he was aware of the historical issues.

And now... Perlmutter likely doesn't care. Geppi, an outspoken Republican, has historically been pretty heavy handed about such matters. Not sure what he'd think of this particular case, but it's an interesting question. Jim Lee, DiDio, Cebulski... I think they probably do care. In principle. Which I realize is the crux of the issue.

Plenty of right-leaning comics retailers, so this particular thing wouldn't be a problem at that level, I imagine.

Overall, it's probably actually a trajectory towards caring, but at a very slow rate of progress.
