Yellow Vest deplatformings

Big Social is apparently attempting to help the French government clamp down on the Gilets Jaunes. I've heard that they are getting deplatformed left and right by Twitter and Facebook. Fortunately, there are alternatives coming, and very soon.

Burn Unit, you're all going to be given the opportunity to alpha test Infogalactic's new Twitter alternative VERY soon. If there are features you would like to see, please share them here. And it will NOT be a free speech zone, we are going to clamp down ruthlessly on the Alt-Retards and adult content trolls who destroyed the Gab community. It's going to be a clean speech zone, so if you want to pass naked pictures back and forth or engage in bantz, you'll have to do it somewhere else.

As long as it is left-free zone, it would be more than worth it.

A crowdfunding campaign for the "gilet jaune" boxer Christophe Dettinger was shut down by the site Leetchi.com. Dettinger was filmed attacking fully armored riot police with his bare knuckles and turned himself in to the police. He was denied bail (unlike many terrorists and rapists) and is in prison awaiting his trial.

There are talks of going after all of the donors to the campaign for some as yet unspecified offence...

The PDG of Leetchi.com, Marlène Schiappa, has blamed Italy for fermenting the yellow vest protests.

I think its safe to say big tech in France is the same as in the rest of the "free" world.

Will there be a phone app? Most millenials won't use anything without a phone app.

Blogger The Kurgan January 11, 2019 6:03 AM

Yes. Phone app comparability with gay apple too please. Some of us low tech people need to use their products for reasons.

Blogger maniacprovost January 11, 2019 6:21 AM

There is a slight chance that Apple and Google, despite their SJW concergecon, would turn a blind eye to a right wing social media app and allow it to flourish like kudzu in their walled gardens.

I wouldn't rely on that.

I don't think I have any special feature requests that you would care to implement. I would want more features on the client side than the server side. I would like to see an aggregation from differrdi platforms, and an ability to automatically cross post. I would like to be able to cross post quote-replies, which requires either automatic screenshotting or cryptographically signed posts. Ultimately the protocol should be open sourced so that microblogging functions like email and becomes impossible to shut down. You can't deplatform every single server that pops up on a daily basis, and user accounts would be transferrable via their private keys.

What is the Clean Speech policy going to be? Can you go into a bit more detail about what sort of stuff will be disallowed?

I assume pornography, harassment, bullying, etc. Gab took a stance of allowing whatever so long as it wasn't illegal, which allows for some of that stuff, which yours won't. What other sort of guidelines will you have that make it stricter than Gab?

Blogger Winston Smith January 11, 2019 7:26 AM

Are we talking "elimination of their idea of edgy speech" or "simply no edgy speech at all?"

Also, don't know if you're aware of this, but there have been a lot of exposes recently about various social media sharing links to illegal porn. Would strongly recommend you think about preemptively blocking url shorteners and links to various file lockers and cloud stores.

High tech... ugh! Part of me is intrigued and part of me wants to become a gun smith. I love working with guns. Being a controls guy for 40 years now, high tech is like "who cares"? But to be able to put a bullet on target within 10 inches at 1000 years is just so enticing.

But the twitter alternative is a little exciting. Been banned from twitter 3 times for repeating what a liberal said. I am contemplating getting a burner phone to get back on there.

But I have gone 4 months without it. Debating it. But I kinda miss the people I conversed with on there.

Old men dilemmas...

Before it was mauled in the last 70 years, the 1st Amendment meant the right to have honest discussions -- political, commercial, religious (as long as it didn't blaspheme Christianity), or personal, with SLIGHTLY wider allowances for academics to speak to each other, but the same when speaking to students. It didn't mean you have a right to libel or slander anybody, nor did it include ANY presumption of rights related to pornography.

The (((usual suspects))) are at the center of the current all-encompassing view of the 1st Amendment (unless you're exhibiting political-badthink)... thus half way to inverting the 1st Amendment (political speech is subject to sanction, while the rule for pornography is "anything goes" as long as it's not "cheese pizza"... and until Trump's court picks, CP looked to be on the way to legalization, too.

"If there are features you would like to see, please share them here"

1. The ability to share comments (like twitter)
2. The ability to share on other platforms (like OneWay, IDKA, MeWe)

Most likely will be smited down once the app grows. Still would like it.

Desired features in a Twitter alternative:

- approx 300 character limit

- URLs don't count toward the character limit

- ability to like/upvote and repost

- no downvote feature. While it never adversely affected me on Gab, it often discouraged newcomers from sticking around, because they were immediately flooded with downvotes for having an unpopular opinion. People will work harder to get upvotes than they will to avoid downvotes.

- ability to attach multiple images to a post

- ability to edit a post after the fact

- ability to mute and block, including muting conversations

- ability to temporarily mute someone you're following (e.g. if they're rapid-posting a bunch of stuff that day you have no interest in) and set the length of that mute

- a categories feature, e.g. News, Science, Art, Religion, Entertainment. I did like the way Gab did this. I liked to read and post to the Science category, and got a lot of new followers that way. It would be nice to be able to cross-post to multiple categories.

- ability to search within a person's posts, within categories, within a conversation

Blogger HalibetLector January 11, 2019 10:18 AM

Stickwick Stapers wrote:- approx 300 character limit

Is that really desirable, though? It limits one's ability to form a proper response in some conversations. On twitter, the restriction isn't very meaningful anyway. People routinely chain together anywhere from 5 to dozens of tweets together. Each of those tweets can have its own replies. This makes it very difficult to follow a conversation.

Blogger Stickwick Stapers January 11, 2019 10:28 AM

Is that really desirable, though?

Yes, it absolutely is. There are perhaps better ways to organize the threads, but a Twitter alternative is still a microblogging platform. If you want to have lengthy conversations, that's what blogs and forums are for.

Blogger Stephen Gustav January 11, 2019 10:39 AM

Functionality broadly similar to twitter/gab - most of the obvious has been noted above. The one function that twitter had, that gab did not, was the ability to create a twitter post from a link on a blog. So, if you had a link like http://infogabtwitter.com/?status=Check out this article:name of post"link to post" it would create a new post on your logged in account.

Blogger The Greay Man January 11, 2019 10:43 AM

I'll go full force into this new Twitter.

We will surpass gab and threaten Twitter fast.

Seems like no bail is the the trend for political dissidents lately. All of the guys charged with defending themselves against antifa/ BLM attacks at Charlottesville were denied bail as well.

Compare to antifa -- always released on their own recognizance or minimal bail, typically with (((National Lawyers Guild))) involvement.

"Seems like no bail is the the trend for political dissidents lately."

That's how every feudalistic government works.
Peasants don't have legal rights, unless the (nobility/commissars/elite)'s judge feels it is in the best interest of his masters to appear magnanimous... which is a rare occurrence.

Blast. Lost the Burn Unit when a credit card got canceled. Is there a link on Infogalactic to re-establish a contribution? Could not find it easily under support or related commo pages. Thanks.

Blogger Linda Fox January 11, 2019 12:17 PM

So, basically, it's like Twitter for non-Twits - in other words, grown-ups.

Blogger Doktor Jeep January 11, 2019 1:04 PM

Do you think Millennials should be the target?

Blogger The Overgrown Hobbit January 11, 2019 1:21 PM

@18 Everything Stickwick posted. The current Gab functionality is very nice and I find it more comfortable to use than Twitter.

I would add to the Categories requests the ability to form groups.

@21 If I understand you correctly, this would include the ability to add an Infogalactic icon to one's website that readers can use to share content to the Infogalactic Yak. (Or Jab. Heh.)

Second that request, with functionality for WordPress.

Blogger Servant January 11, 2019 1:48 PM

4chan rules. No up votes or down votes it's not a flipping popularity contest but a discussion. If you need to measure the popularity of something do it with captures and shares not voting.

Blogger Resident Moron™ January 11, 2019 1:55 PM

Yes to everything Stickwick said.

Agree on forming Groups, and maybe Lists, but please don't let other people add me to a List. That drove me bugnuts on Twitter.

Happy to continue fueling the burn. Some of the best money I've ever spent.

In Canada, the Yellow Vests moderator says he sees comments in the mod queue (I forget if he said Facebook of Youtube) then they disappear before he even has a chance to approve or delete them. But the number of Yellow Vest protestors here has been doubling roughly every two weeks, despite the heavy censorship by the search engines and Big Internet.

Pinnable hashtag/categories
There are plenty of categories that don't interest me, and plenty of hashtags that I want to follow even when they aren't trending. For example, I'd like to have UK politics as a category. It would be better to have a default set of categories when you first create your account, but be able to pin hashtags and have them function like a category.

Option to post blog comments to your timeline.
Assuming there will be a blogging component, include an option in the comment form to automatically post both as a comment under the blog and as a post on your timeline with the original blog embedded at the same time.

Blogger Stephen St. Onge January 11, 2019 6:30 PM

That is exciting, and very good news.

The other thing we desperately need is a right-wing financial network of banks and credit cards.

Blogger Meng Greenleaf January 11, 2019 11:04 PM

I never used Twitter, Facebook, etc... I did write on a blog and probably had 3 to 6K regular readers. But I was banned for suggesting black Americans have a lower IQ due to genetics, not White racism. Towards the end, these insane liberals were arguing for the black-womb controls. Unless we have White IVF implants into black-wombs we will never ever know nutt-in (other than Whites are at fault for every conceived of evil in the history of history and blah).

Blogger SJ January 11, 2019 11:17 PM

Oh thank goodness! I tried using gab and that reddit alternative but the alt retards were just way too much for me. I suspect these places are filled with retarded trolls on purpose

Blogger Alexandros January 12, 2019 4:32 AM

Please don't ban leftist speech. The only problem with Gab is that the left doesn't use it and so it's no fun without opposing viewpoints to engage.

Blogger Silent Draco January 12, 2019 7:34 AM

Dave, thanks. I saw the page link for "Buy an account" but had not realized the significance. Signing up.

Blogger Dave January 12, 2019 9:10 AM

@38 Sorry, I wasn't clear. They removed the donation info and there is nothing to indicate how to "buy an account".

I would shoot off an email to Vox to see if he can get you back in the burn unit.
