An hour of Corrosion

Actually an hour and 18 minutes, to be precise. And it happens to include my favorite chapter. If you ever enjoyed Isaac Asimov's Foundation, I can just about guarantee that you will very much like Corrosion. It's no longer on Audible, so you can only acquire it at the Arkhaven store.

I'll add a personal pitch for the audiobook, because you get a very different perspective on the contents. I read and enjoyed "Corrosion". I listened to the sample this morning, while working on shoulder stretching, and the narrator's speaking cadence made a couple things pop up out of the text. One was an 'aha' moment about possible causes for corrosion. The other, which made me laugh out loud, was the description of our SDL cleverly concealed as the First Technologist. I needed about five minutes to refocus on exercises, it was that wry and on target. Well done, oh former Marine!

A did a review of Corrosion a while back and would have given the book a higher score if it hadn't melted part of my brain. Definitely an unique reading experience.

@2: Thank you for that - this was one of my favorites to have the honor to record. I'd already read the title, and loved it so much that I lobbied for the privilege of recording it.

There were a few hidden gems that I was able to bring to the fore, but it's such a well constructed book with so many Easter Eggs in it that I still wonder what sly references I've missed.

I will definitely be buying this book. I really liked the concepts in Foundation, the idea that the behavior of human populations can be predicted by computer algorithms, and the need for the second Foundation, and the prediction of an as-yet-unknown wild card called the Mule. Sometimes I think of Trump as a symbolic version of the Mule, the way that one man has completely upset the system by force of charisma. I'm intrigued by your take on the themes in Foundation.
