The Promethean extended audio

Now that Castalia House is free to sell our audiobooks our own way, we're going to be putting up extended audio samples on the Darkstream for your listening pleasure. In, today's case, it's a pair of particularly funny chapters that appear in succession in the extended audio sample of The Promethean by Owen Stanley. Rather than simple putting up the prologue or the first chapter, we're seeking to provide a discrete element of the book that can be enjoyed in its own right, even if the listener doesn't proceed to purchase the entire book in one form or another.

As I commented on the YouTube page, if your intent is to convert me into an audiobook enthusiast, between this sample and the one from ATOB; it's working.

The goblin battle from Throne of Bones you sampled resulted in me (attempting) to purchase the audio book through arkhaven. There is a weird chase double check of my payment method that my phone seems unable to process appropriately to make the purchase happen. I’ll use my computer when I get home, but seems weird. Really liked the content though =D

Glad to hear of your interest. Some US banks have trouble with European processors. You can also use Paypal, though, if that's an option.

Vox, if you keep releasing these awesome audiobooks you're going to bankrupt me!

I'm listening, Thank you!

The extended audiobook idea has been really good. You haven't done one for a book I haven't read yet, so I can't comment on curiosity hooking me. That said, it looks to be a matter of time, even if the extended audiobook samples only get me to buy the ebooks.

How can I be an audiobook narrator?

European banks require very high security, and this is part of it. American standards are so much lower, that this feature is often half-assed and buggy because it almost never gets used. But we can't turn it off for just a part of the world. The problem is your bank's implementation of the feature. Our processor just requests that your bank uses the feature for the transaction.

I get a similar security action to Matthew Baker, but mine is a warning notice for a transaction placed outside the continental 48 states. There's a link to review and cancel transaction. It's a feature, not a bug, and forces you to pay attention.

RT: I had problems with AToB using Voice player on Android, recognizing the mp4 format. Used CapTune as a work-around. Should I email Vox the details, or start a discussion thread at Arkhaven to get more eyes on it?

Can you test if Voice works when you rename the .mp4 suffix to .m4b ?

Blogger Silent Draco February 21, 2019 11:58 AM

Copied them and renamed as m4b. Pressing the play button on the m4b in Voice, just cycles from pause right back to play. No sound.

Ok, I'll test it today, see if I can find something out.

Blogger Silent Draco February 21, 2019 12:07 PM

Thanks. I'll keep testing to see if I missed something obvious.

Bug in Voice, it looks like. Our initial audiobooks were made with slightly higher settings (which turned out to be superfluous) so we lowered the settings one step. Looks like Voice doesn't understand the new settings. Jordanetics works, and it was made with the original ones. Promethean doesn't, and it was made with the new ones.

I sent the author of Voice the file. Hopefully he can fix the bug reasonably soon. In the meanwhile, use alternatives. Vox will probably post on it soon.

Vox is evil. Happily minding my own business when I listened to this on YouTube. Started smirking, then laughing. Ended up buying the audiobook (my first) it is fantastic. Thanks for the great work.
