RIP Keith Flint

It would appear the lead singer of Prodigy decided he was done.

I’m not saving up for anything. I’m cashing it all now. I’ve always had this thing inside me that, when I’m done, I’ll kill myself. I swear to God that’s not suicidal – it’s definitely a positive thing. The moment I start s******* the bed is when you’ll see me on the front of a bus. I just want to look back and know that I’ve lived what I consider a fulfilled life.

They had more famous songs and videos, but I always considered this acidic commentary on the false nature of fame, consumerism, and the record industry to be the best of both.

UPDATE: RIP Luke Perry as well.
Luke Perry -- the TV icon and heartthrob who rose to fame on "Beverly Hills, 90210" -- has died after suffering a massive stroke

We’re all thinking it, I’m just saying it...

What did he know about Hillary?

I wonder if they'll still make music with Flint gone. I don't think he contributed vocals on the "Your Love" EP. RIP.

Blogger artensoll March 04, 2019 12:52 PM

FFS. What did he go and do that for? Memories flooding back of a mis-spent youff raving in a field. He'll be missed round these parts. RIP yer nut-nut x

I had that album on CD, bought in 96. Firestarter was the song I played when I went out to counter-protest the leftists back in the day. :-(

Oh well.

If you believe the western sun
Is falling down on everyone
If you break it free and the mornings come
If you would know your time has comeIf you believe the western sun
Is falling down on everyone
And you feel it burn, don't try to run
And you feel it burn, your time has comeAnd I feel itYou feel another energy
And I feel a power growing
You feel another energy
And I feel a power grow

Video certainly seems cynical. I'm assuming the milk maids in pasties is just about tits. Oh are you saying the crowd clamoring forthe milk is the record industry? I don't think i speak this language.

I just had a flashback to the first time I saw the video for Smack My Bitch Up.

What a depraved world we Xers grew up in.

The Ladies Room was still the ladies room in our day.

Tide Pods were not eaten either. Nor were condoms snorted.

Yeah, things certainly haven't gotten better, have they.

The normalcy of depravity... all things being equal, I would have preferred to have been steeped in it from the get go. This is my gut speaking.

Between Flint and Luke Perry, GenX is falling already!

Blogger JD Curtis March 04, 2019 2:05 PM

Back in the late 90's I was listening to K Rock in NYC one night and a guy called in to say he had just 'smacked my bit** up' to the tune of Smack My Bitch Up which had just aired.
If memory serves me correctly, they traced the call, sent the authorities to the home and promptly arrested the caller for domestic violence

I've had a constant earworm of "Breathe" going ever since I heard the news.

The Prodigy knew what was up

Uh, ok, ain't that something. I get the message, but that's like a firehose of meth instead of a good Irish Coffee.

I have not followed Prodigy much. They were some of the example music of what producers wanted for game tracks, long ago, in a galaxy far, far away where I produced some. Them and "Tackhead"? I think.

I sukd at it so I make a living doing other stuff now. Hats off to the kids these days I hear running with that vibe and getting paid for it.

Sorry to hear about suicide. I've contemplated the "lived what I consider a fulfilled life.", but have come to the conclusion an honorable death is more important, and suicide ain't one.

Not for me, not with the blessings and joys life has given me. The pain and suffering don't ruin life or make it less worth living.

It is not by place to judge anyone who takes that off-ramp, eternity will do that. I feel sad.

Blogger Sterling Pilgrim March 04, 2019 3:09 PM

I never really liked Prodigy, they were "edgy" and the paraded malevolence felt really fake. I mean, they were good at it "smack my bitch up" was pretty attention getting, but The Chemical Brothers, The Chrystal Method, Tricky, all of them were more "listenable".
I hope Mr. Flint found Christ before his death, otherwise he's lamenting for the rest of eternity.
I predict Brian Warner, Marilyn Manson, won't be long for this world unless he converts as well. These guys really are fulfilling the last act of their involuntary Cautionary Tale for Gen Z quite well.

Blogger electricsheeple March 04, 2019 3:46 PM

Obviously Keith Flint is a disturbed individual and it was probably drugs that led to his suicidal ideology.

RIP Luke Perry.

@ Sterling Pilgrim.

I pity Gen Z. Better to tolerate Boomer elders than Millenial elders.

PLAYBOY: "You disagree with Neil Young's lyric in 'Rust Never Sleeps'-- 'It's better to burn out than to fade away....'"

LENNON: "I hate it. It's better to fade away like an old soldier than to burn out. I don't appreciate worship of dead Sid Vicious or of dead James Dean or of dead John Wayne. It's the same thing. Making Sid Vicious a hero, Jim Morrison's garbage to me. I worship the people who survive. Gloria Swanson, Greta Garbo. They're saying John Wayne conquered cancer... he whipped it like a man. You know, I'm sorry that he died and all that. I'm sorry for his family, but he didn't whip cancer. It whipped him. I don't want Sean worshiping John Wayne or Sid Vicious. What do they teach you? Nothing. Death. Sid Vicious died for what? So that we might rock? I mean, it's garbage, you know. If Neil Young admires that sentiment so much, why doesn't he do it? Because he sure as hell faded away and came back many times, like all of us. No, thank you. I'll take the living and the healthy."

Blogger Annabel Lee March 04, 2019 6:14 PM

I'm so sorry to hear this. I suspect he was a troubled man. And he leaves his bandmates not only grieving, but without an essential part of their livelihood.

Another white guy dead in England. Globalists everywhere, rejoice!

I saw them live in the 90s at a rock festival in DC.

Blogger Daniel Heneghan March 04, 2019 6:24 PM

If he had started a weight lifting regimen he wouldn't have offed himself. Sad. Doesn't take much to changer life's course. Sad.

Blogger Daniele Grech Pereira March 04, 2019 8:30 PM

Ah that video brought back some crazy, greasy, grimey-ass memories of the 90s. We just wanted to wreck shit. Looks like that detachment to everything around us is going to come in handy soon.

Blogger Daniel Heneghan March 04, 2019 9:09 PM

One of the best things that Vox has done for the ----sphere is to encourage us all to lift weights. Women should lift weights too. At the very, very, very, very ^ 2 least, weightlifting offers a great incentive to survive for at least 2 more days. Apply this inductively and you have a purpose in life. Shout outs to Dennis Mangan too. His Twitter feed is worth following.

"I've got a word of thanks
Thanks that I'd like to say
For the way that I feel
For the way that I feel today
Got stacks, got stacks, stacks of chips on my shoulder
In everything I do
'Cause I made, I made, I made the mistake
Of trusting you" "Fuel My Fire" from Fat of the Land. This song speaks to how I feel about former friendly lefties who turned their tongues against me

The glamourisation of distasteful music is one thing, the glamourisation of suicided, is quite another. Surprised and disappointed to see it on this blog.
