More thought policing at Google

The situation is much, much worse at Google than the average American understands even following the James Damore disclosures. I've had intermittent access to their internal communications for years and you would not believe how completely out of control the SJW employees there are. They have even the highest executives at the company intimidated and police literally all the activity and communications, professional and personal, taking place inside and outside the company by the employees:
Left-wing employees at Google are threatening the employment of their colleagues amid a panic about frequent leaks revealing political bias in the company’s products and working atmosphere. Leaked internal discussion threads from Google provided exclusively to Breitbart News show left-wing Google employees reporting one of their colleagues for alleged “leaks,” while worrying about the legal implications of cracking down on a conservative at the company over his public complaints about working conditions.

The discussion took place last week on the “transparency and ethics” discussion group, from which the alleged leaker had recently been ejected – a failed attempt to stem the tide of leaks showing political bias at the tech giant.
People ask me why I'm not concerned about Google shutting down this blog given their obvious antipathy for me. First, I've had live backups running for over a decade and Google knows it. Second, given the amount of inside material I have assembled over the years, I suspect that one of the very last thing Google wants to do is give me an opportunity to do discovery in a European court of law, especially considering the fact that it is publicly known that I am personally banned from setting foot on their Mountain View campus.

European courts love, Love, LOVE fining Google massive amounts of money. So, creating any reasonable opportunity for a legal dispute would be tantamount to printing a winning lottery ticket.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall in the meeting where it's discussed who is and isn't ban-worthy from Google headquarters. Probably reads like a whos-who of online dissident right commentators.

I dont understand how they get the upper hand as employees. Just fire them.

Blogger Balam April 19, 2019 11:32 AM

How is it that the leadership loses control of the SJW/Gamma elements under them? It happens elsewhere too with times like Bernie Sanders losing the mike to two female blacks, Mozilla CEO getting kicked out and even despots like Zuckerberg apologizing for stuff.

Why aren't they able to just be tyrants and fire people who do this? Have your SJW attack dog and send them out, and if they ever turn around to bite you give them a firm slap on the behind. They managed to do it in the media realm, where the media owners/agenda will never get attacked by CNN and when it does happen the offending employee is sacked immediately. What's different?

Some possibilities: We only notice the weak executives when they lose control of shit like this, lots of leadership reigns in the gammas but they are largely unnoticed because they don't blow up. The new executive class is weaker than the olden days, probably because they're being selected for leadership based on controllability rather than power or charisma, which naturally makes them more vulnerable to control-tactics such as shame. There's a tipping point where there's too much sjw to control, the main stream media is still under a firm hand but that may be purely because there can only be a limited amount of employees in a place like CNN while twitter is legion.

I don't know. Having no real business world experience it's hard to separate what's really going on from just thinking these people are insane.

Now if only American courts weren't squarely in the pockets of the Deep State (of which Google is most assuredly involved, at least in some aspects), and we could start fining them for pulling their crap over here...

It must be tempting to go after that 'lottery ticket' if for no other reason than to take on giant google in the EU where they might be at a great disadvantage. Of course, now might not be the right time to do so.
This last is why I keep believing in the 'plan' of Trump and his company of merry men. You can get worried about 'plans' after reading enough of Karl Denninger's feelings about Trump. A Trump fan he is not. Thing is Karl makes some good points. But, then too, brother Karl has not all the info either.

@BAlam,
There's an upper-level executive, Executive VP or higher, maybe even the BOD, that is protecting them. He will land like them like Kara Hultgreen's F-14 if they try to fire any SJWs.

Gamma cancer, spreading with the SJW cancer. Vox, as usual, was far-sighted on this. The cure is chemotherapy with lots of testosterone.

The big investment companies don't care as long as Google makes money on its balance sheet. The big three or four men who actually control way more than 50% of the voting shares are obviously happy with what is happening-- or have become aloof. I guess the saying about a fool and his money is really true. We will see if they realize that the foundations of the company are failing or maybe they think they are actually building great foundations. In any case, having a few tech billionaires fall because they were not taking care of their company will be a good thing.

Scaring away potential right wing employees is going to drastically lower the level of competence at Google. Scaring away anyone with a brain as well, considering they’d see Google’s corporate culture a mile away and choose not to commit mental suicide.

Blogger d April 19, 2019 12:23 PM

I left Blogger shortly after it was purchased by Google Corp, after it became obvious their corporate fraud engine, with its army of political commissars, was overriding their own "algorithms" to discriminate against those whose creed favors the Christian West.

Whether hiding or outright banning bloggers, or blacklisting certain buyers of certain keywords, Google's systemic persecutions were rather obvious even back then.

By the way, most of your "BOOKS AND COMICS" picture-links are broken, most of the time.

Godspeed.

When even the CEO is treading gingerly, it's probably more than one member of the board.

One red flag to look for is any company that says they're "not vertical" or "not hierarchical". Either they're lying, in which case they lie to their employees; or, much worse, they're actually telling the truth, don't wield authority properly, and allow one rogue individual to derail entire teams and projects in the same way that one rogue juror can derail a guilty verdict.

I'm not sure if it's possible to run a software operation at scale without taking on some gammas, because they seem to gravitate toward that profession. Nearly everything in the trendy tech industry is designed to attract gammas: casual dress, prestige titles ("software engineer"), free food, and "no rules". Trouble is, this attracts both the competent high-functioning gammas, who are socially awkward and prefer working with machines, and the parasitical SJW gammas, who simply despise all authority. And they don't have any consistent framework for dealing with the latter, or even distinguishing them from the former.

The incessant diversity lawsuits don't help either. Every major tech firm is under constant pressure to scrounge up more women and minorities, and whenever you have artificially-inflated demand, you get grifters and rent-seekers.

I was at a presentation by Google at a Meetup in Vancouver the other night. Aside from looking like a pair of children with no clue what professional presentation means, the very first slide after the introduction was a list of rules that we were all to follow. Maybe 10 in all and every single social justice point you could think of. I didn't think to take a picture, unfortunately.

But imagine. You've been invited by a group of people to give a talk and the very first thing you do is impose a set of rules your hosts are expected to abide by. The gall. They make themselves very easy to hate.

There were a couple of obvious Chinese nationals, older, maybe 50's, sitting beside me. I can just imagine what they were thinking - Yes, yes, ... Never interrupt an enemy.

An aside on Chinese in Vancouver. The last year I've noticed many of the tech Meetups I attend now have obvious older Chinese nationals also showing up. Some speak. Some don't. The ones that do speak are often overtly rude. Like they know it's their show now. But have no clue how to act in civil society.

Blogger Jim the Curmudgeon April 19, 2019 2:09 PM

There are two cultures at Google, and probably other tech firms. First, you have the H1B / Asian crowd that is interested in making money and getting promoted. These people come over from India or China after studying intensely for years in hyper-competitive environments. They are only political to the extent that they can profit from engaging in political activity (e.g., voting for Democrats and open border policies so they can bring in their 20 cousins from Bangalore). These people find the constant left wing politics at work to be annoying, but they also know that they can ride the gravy train somewhat given that they are overwhelmingly non-white (i.e., a few Russian H1Bs, but mostly Asian). This is 55% of the company.

The other culture consists of domestic North American or European employees, most of whom hold left wing views or feel a need to conform to left wing orthodoxy in some way. A subset of this group (maybe 25%) is hard core, full on leftist. The worst ones are white gamma nerds who think that their degree in CS or EENG also qualifies them as a psychologist, philosopher and lawyer. These are the people that show up in the various leaks ranting and raving about black women with the wrong opinions, etc. They use soft power to enforce compliance, via 'diversity' workshops, lectures on 'white fragility', etc.

A third sliver of the company consists of older (45+) workers with decades of Silicon Valley experience, or older professors who get pulled into the company in late career stages (e.g., Geoff Hinton). These people just bury their heads and get to work.

The truth is that Google is not particularly effective as an organization anymore. 90,000+ people but less effective than 10 years ago. Many of its successes are acquisitions, and once they pull a company into the Alphabet orbit, it often fails (e.g., Nest). A cynic might wonder if the emphasis on H1B hiring and left wing politics is not necessarily correlated with engineering excellence.

They probably have tons of money and big houses (with no mortgage and permanently deferred property tax). Chinese care a lot about 'face', so I imagine a lot of wealthy Chinese who move to the west feel completely superior to the average tech worker who is renting an apartment and spending 60% of their disposable income on housing. Working for a living versus being able to sit back and pick the trends to invest in.

The Taiwanese and Hong Kong Chinese are quite different from Mainlanders as well, so it could be their place of origin.

Bravo to you. This is how we all must proceed in life. Be prepared. It is absurd to assume any good will from the corporate/state axis.

That's not how you say "cheating their asses off in a widespread nepotistic conspiracy".

tide of leaks

So Google is a government agency in all meaningful ways. It's not confidential tech data, it's policy that's being "leaked", when in a publicly traded company it shouldn't even be secret.

Thought policing is widespread in those circles. In response to an attack on RT, I tried to post on FaceBook

"If I want to complain about government news tampering, I will complain that alemarah-english.com/ seems to be being blocked from availability in the US."

and the responder from Facebook was 'you can't post this link. Try again.' For those not familiar with the site, it is the Taliban News service, presenting their positions on what they are fighting for and reporting on military outcomes not covered by our MSM. (Naturally, to be taken cum grano salis.)

It is how you say it in Hindi. Cheating and neopotism are highly competitive endeavors for those people.

@1- Well, flies are used to the smell.

The problem with listening to nonsense for longer than a couple minutes is that if I could understand it all (assuming it is even understandable), I don't want to. And I may be physically incapable. I think my brain has a self-defense mechanism whereby it forcibly drifts away to more interesting subjects.

#24: When thinking about engineers and credentialed professionals from India, one has to keep in mind in what caste they originated The castes are still in force and like in Mexico and South America, the differences are stark. IMHO and limited view, the top caste professionals are very good, but I do not think that many of them come to the US. The top caste isn't seeking low pay jobs and isn't coming here to escape lack of prospects.

China seems to have a different approach in sending/allowing professionals to come to the US, but that might seem that way because of the number of Chinese with the brainpower to be a high level professional in a technical field.

Blogger DonReynolds April 19, 2019 7:47 PM

Perhaps the best solution to the Google situation would be to move the operations (and current employees) to China completely. I am pretty sure, the people's republic would be tickled pink (or red) to scrape off a few square miles and build an entire Chinese city for them to all live in. It would do the Maoist Red Guards that work for Google a lot of good to experience for themselves the wonders of living in a society that has already completed their Great Leap Forward. Take them there! Imagine the joy.

It is possible that at least some of the ones who don't talk much are Mainland government employees, here to watch Overseas Chinese.

In 2015 I contributed 85% of the code on a project I started, led, and presented to an audience single-handedly. We won first prize, and all 3 of the chinese people who latched onto the project were hired immediately, while I was left writhing, working for shitty startups. The funniest part of it all, it turns out that only back guys will hire me as a programmer, because they aren't SJWs and they like a guy who they can point out fat asses with. Canada is already dead.
