Obama's White House counsel indicted

This unexpected indictment appears to suggest things may get very interesting very soon in Washington DC:
Greg Craig, former White House counsel for former President Barack Obama, pleaded not guilty in federal court on Friday to charges of making false and misleading statements to federal prosecutors related to his work on behalf of Russian-backed former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych.

A status hearing for his case has been set for April 15 before U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson in the District of Columbia.

Craig, in an indictment a day earlier, was accused of making false and misleading statements to investigators including those on Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team. Craig is the first prominent Democrat to be indicted in a case that stemmed from Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling and potential collusion with members of the Trump campaign during the 2016 election.

Mueller referred the Craig case to prosecutors in New York last year, after uncovering alleged misconduct while investigating former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort’s unregistered lobbying work on behalf of Ukraine.
Drawandstrike suggests that this is just the first thread of an unravelling sweater:
What you are seeing this week was planned and readied for a long, long time by people who know exactly what they are doing.

All the way back when Paul Manafort's indictment was first unsealed, I saw this coming. While all the attention of the Trump/Russia kool-aid drinkers was almost totally fixated on Manafort/Gates, I took a really long look at Tony Podesta's reaction to that indictment being unsealed.

Nobody was supposed to notice that people who had *no connection whatsoever* with the Trump campaign or administration were getting indicted by the Mueller team for illegal lobbying.

The *very first conviction* the Mueller team had, Van Der Zwaan = illegal lobbying.
With that in mind, I watched how Tony Podesta reacted to the unsealing of Manafort's indictment.

1) immediately dissolved his highly successful lobbying firm
2) went to ground and has made himself extremely hard to find

Podesta may have been the first guy to actually realize where all of this was going.
I've long wondered why Podesta disappeared his lobbying firm, but I never connected it to the Manafort indictment. Here is hoping the long-awaited Storm is finally upon us.

A lot of people are wondering why the wall hasn't been built and why open invasion has gotten much, much larger on the southern border. I suspect, and I'm sure many people do as well, that a lot of it has to do with the Cabal disrupting President Trump both publicly and privately. Now that the Mueller investigation is over with no impeachment proceedings, he can use this opportunity to strike them deep blows.

It won't surprise me to see much more than the projected 227 miles of wall built by Summer of next year.

Blogger Nate April 15, 2019 9:40 AM

While I am deeply skeptical of the current AG his aggressive stance on this is welcome.

Blogger dh April 15, 2019 9:47 AM

I think there will be a lot of people disappointed. The timing here was that the Mueller people turned over their investigatory materials to the various states and US attorneys toward the end of their investigation. Then that sparked follow-along investigations, including the one that got Craig.

Manafort was a primary target. The secondary targets are now getting swept up in these littler investigations. It would be surprising and unusual for anyone big to be caught up in any of these follow-along investigations.

Greg Craig is as Swamp as it gets.

He was a big shot lawyer for Clinton during impeachment 20 years ago.

Blogger Unknownsailor April 15, 2019 10:10 AM

The Podestas have a long overdue reckoning coming. They have been associated with the Clintons for decades, and are undoubtedly buried up to their eyeballs in malfeasance.

Blogger Mister Excitement April 15, 2019 10:11 AM

Wow, this guy is as Deep Swamp as it gets. He's been pals with the Clintons since college, and has worked for "The" D.C. law firm as his first and only job his entire adult life.

From Infogalactic:

Craig attended Yale Law School, where he was a member of the same class as Bill Clinton, Hillary Rodham, and David E. Kendall.

In the fall of 1971, Craig sublet his apartment in New Haven to Rodham and Clinton for $75 a month.

After graduating, Craig, along with Kendall, took a job at the law firm of Williams & Connolly.

Nate, AG Barr's aggressive stance is welcome indeed.

It would be a pleasure to see the top players receive some indictments (HRC, Obama), but I think our Country-Club Republican AG will want to avoid that.

The Podesta brothers are connected to the supposedly nonexistent Pizzagate, too.

Blogger CarpeOro April 15, 2019 10:44 AM

The frustrating part of this? All the people so quick to make excuses for the deep state types subverting the law years ago to take out Trump - they will completely have forgotten about that. The truth that the deep state was ignoring actual malfeasance will be ignored because old media is ignoring it. Wisdom is a virtue that our society has forgotten almost completely as intelligence=credentials has come to replace it in the daily use of the language.

Blogger Fozzy Bear April 15, 2019 10:46 AM

Yes, Manafort was acting as a cut-out for Podesta in everything he was indicted for. All along, Podesta has been the dog that didn’t bark in the Ukrainian collusion case, but if that’s beginning to change then I’m very happy.

Blogger Harambe April 15, 2019 10:52 AM

Blogger Silent Draco April 15, 2019 10:59 AM

Drawandstrine makes an additional point: break precedent and ignore legal restrictions at your own peril, because it will be turned on you. Podesta may be hiding so he doesn't get sweated in protective custody "at an undisclosed location, for his security and protection", or have Arkancide, er, unfortunate accident happen to prevent this.

SJWs project what they've done or would do; I hope this time that their imaginations are too small. Have the Iron Maiden open for Iron Maiden, and up death metal to 12?

Blogger Azimus April 15, 2019 11:02 AM

He knows how to keep breathing so I expect he won't say much. The question is, did they seize his files and where will they lead now that Mueller has finished? Someone needs to pick up the football and run with it, maybe Barr will? Congress sure won't.

Blogger Damelon Brinn April 15, 2019 11:07 AM

It wasn't only the Manafort indictment; Mueller also subpoenaed the Podesta Group and it came out that they had amended their FARA registration to try to retcon their Ukraine dealings into being legal. Democrats told themselves it wasn't about Podesta at all, it was just Mueller gathering info on Manafort to get to Trump, but it doesn't seem to have worked out the way they thought.

Blogger Mr. Naron April 15, 2019 11:10 AM

The Clinton Foundation is knee deep in Ukrainian dealings as well. So's Creepy Joe. Pretty much the whole starting line-up. Maybe that's why the Democrats have thoroughly embraced the back bench.

Blogger Jeroth April 15, 2019 11:32 AM

It still bothers me greatly that Podesta was in New Zealand days before the Christchurch shooting. It suggests that they do not have him on any sort of leash. But I suppose appearances can be deceiving.

Blogger Mr.MantraMan April 15, 2019 11:35 AM

So is the author implying that Flynn created a honey trap for swampies? I could go down the conspiracy rat hole and say Manafort was put more in protective custody than solitary confinement, but I won't go there.

FTR I don't think Mule and Weissman are white hats I think they got suckered into the illegal lobbying angle and found that "their" side has such obvious abuses that trying to garner some hot shit overpaid weasel D party or Rino swampie a free pass would created a situation that Trump could have ruled against them by decree.

Blogger Lazarus April 15, 2019 11:55 AM

Barr's connections

If you accept that Trump has been a very valuable source for the FBI since at least 1981, you can start to see his influence in major FBI/DOJ takedowns more clearly.

For example, in the early 1990s, the FBI was making a major push against the Mob in New York. The Gambino crime family in New York was brought down in 1992. The Mafia Commission between February 25, 1985 and November 19, 1986 broke up the Five Families. Each of these probes would have relied on valuable source informants, much like the Scarfo takedown in 1981.

Given the above and the Mafia's power in the construction sector, what are the chances that Donald J Trump was a valuable source for these investigations? Answer - in my opinion, very high.

Now consider these remarkable 'coincidences':

Who led the Mafia Commission prosecution? Rudy Giuliani.

Who led the Gambino prosecution? Robert Mueller, who was USAG for the DOJ Criminal Division between 1990-1993. Who was working for Mueller at DOJ, during this time?

Rod Rosenstein.

And who was the Deputy Attorney General between May 1990 and 26 November, 1992, before becoming the Attorney-General?

William Barr.

And how about this?

Barr's DAG in the 1990's was George Terwilliger. His son, Zachary, was Grassley's DOJ investigator for Judiciary. Zachary Terwilliger then became Rod Rosenstein's Chief of Staff, before being appointed United States Attorney, for the Eastern District of Virginia. Who did Zachary Terwilliger replace in Virginia?

Dana Boente. Ring a bell?

Boente is now the FBI Chief Legal Counsel

Ask yourself this - would these men know that Trump has been a long-standing patriot and FBI source, for decades? Answer - yes. Would any of these men work for Trump, if he was the traitor and Russian agent, that leftist journalists have been accusing him of?

Answer - no way.

2019 - Mueller is SC. Rosenstein is DAG. Barr is now AG.

And how about Donald J Trump, patriot, billionaire, FBI informant?

President of the United States of America.

Have any leftist reporters made these connections? No, of course not. They're still chasing shiny objects down endless information dead-ends, chasing that elusive piece of evidence that they know must exists, proving 'OrangeManBad'.

Blogger James Dixon April 15, 2019 12:00 PM

I think it was Instapundit that noted that if they're going to start enforcing FARA regulations, over half of K street will wind up in jail.

Which would be a good thing.

But this is only a side show. The really interesting thing is where Barr's investigation into the details of the spying on the Trump campaign will lead. To reuse an old quote "What did the President know, and when did he know it?"

And of course the NXIVM cases are still ongoing, as are a number of other human trafficking cases.

Blogger Mr.MantraMan April 15, 2019 12:04 PM

Yeah Laz I just finished reading today's CFN piece by Kunstler and he listened to a Slate podcast that had 3 SJWtards lambasting Assange which is basically low hanging shiny thing for the leftist kool aid crew.

Blogger Balam April 15, 2019 12:29 PM

There was something 'FBIAnon' said a long time ago which tempers my expectations of any public gallows for Hillary and the rest of the Cabal. He mentioned something along the lines that the ideal coup against the Deep State would be completely silent and practically unnoticed by the general public. The reasoning being that the FBI patriots, according to him, saw civil war as the biggest threat to the future of the US. If a civil war started it would never end, in part because foreign actors would want to keep the US down so they would fund any underdogs to pull down sources of stability (ironically what the US and globalists have done in the Middle East). Any actions which incite mobs and start open war were bad, anything which increased stability good.

We've seen the foreign actors (Soros) openly funding civil war elements (antifa) so what he said has largely looked true. Unfortunately that means if Trump pulls out the big win, no livestream executions for us to watch with our friends and families. If we do see open war and open executions it means stability is long post saving.

Of course I speak only to the motivations of the FBI/Trump team. I think Vox is right in that the sooner the split/fight happens the sooner a new normal can be reached and it won't be avoided.

We have heard theories that Trump has support from, may have been recruited to run by, patriotic insiders in the military and intelligence communities. If so, the entire Trump phenomenon is factional infighting among swamp critters.

That doesn't make any of what we see a bad thing, but it makes it all band-aid, not cure.

That's basically the plot of the game Deus Ex, complete with riots in Paris. All we're missing is the Grey Plague. I'm inclined to believe that Trump is already part of the elite ecosystem (he didnt come from nowhere) but his group believes the globalist factions have gone too far. There is the argument that we are better served by plain and obvious Kings, blasphemy laws and taxes rather than the shadowy system of rulers, political correctness and inflation we have now.

What would your proposal be, to realistically replace the deep state? Currently we're at the 'try to replace bad actors of our exploitive system' phase while keeping the system intact.

It isn't a choice between Q being a larp or him being a patroit.

I thinks it's pretty dam clear that he's a psyop against us. The fact legacy media attacks Q should not give him a gram of credibility. They spent 2 years attacking a second generation j@w worshipping zionist while keeping his real crimes secret from us

That crap he pulled with Eminem or Ann Coulter should have been the last straw, but qult is gonna qult

Blogger Callmebluesummers April 15, 2019 10:27 PM

Exactly. When you operate on the premise that Trump resepents a different faction of the Cabal, things make perfect sense. After two years it should be clear that he only does enough to keep his base on the hook. No more.

High level Cabal will only go to jail if they threaten him or his family.

He is pro late term abortion, anti gun Israel firster from the zionist faction if the Cabal.

That means no stemming the tide of legal or illegal immergation. More wars and military conflicts Isreal, and he will sign that anti bds bill if it gets to his desk.

Blogger Ominous Cowherd April 15, 2019 11:06 PM

I don't see that Trump or Q is against us. I'm not sure that they are going to do much for us, but they are not against us. Their enemies are absolutely against us.

In the worst case, Trump is a step in the right direction, representing a far less destructive faction of the Swamp.
