Dragon Awards discussion

I've been too busy to pay too much attention to the SF world in the last year. Share your thoughts concerning the 2019 Dragon Awards, particularly as they relate to Best Comic and Best Graphic Novel.

I personally think that the Best Graphic Novel we've published is either Rebel Dead Revenge or Right Ho, Jeeves. As for Best Comic, I'm inclined towards Alt-Hero #4: The War in Paris.

Sigh. Jeeves still not available where I'm at.

Still, lots of ggod Arkhaven stuff in 2018. I'm liking Wardogs #1 for Mil SciFi.

Best Science Fiction --Combat Frame XSeed, by Brian Niemeier, or Pop Kult Warlord, by Nick Cole, if Brian declines.

Best Fantasy - Sword of Kaigen, by M. L. Wang or Sowing Dragon Teeth by James Alderdice

Best Young Adult - Is it Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon, vol. 12, by Fujino Omori (Decent novel, horribly misleading title. Rather than the adventures of a rake, a young teen decides to be an adventurer, but has to get rescued when he gets in over his head. He crushes on his rescuer, and the puppy love drives him to become a hero worthy of fighting by her side.)

Best milSF - I like Retribution better, but Jason Anspach and Nick Cole want the fans to get behind Galaxy's Edge: Order of the Centurion.

Best Media Tie-In - Realmslayer, by David Guymer

Best Comics: Alt-Hero Q #1

Best Graphic Novel - Conan le Cimmérien - Le Colosse noir, or Elric, the White Wolf, vol 1. by Julien Blondel, et al.

Best Science Fiction or Fantasy Mini Game - Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team

I'm nominating Alt Hero Q #1 for best comic.

Thank God I've already done this post.

Best Science Fiction Novel Heroes Fall by Morgon Newquist.

Best Fantasy Novel (Including Paranormal) Bokerah Brumley's "Keepers of New Haven: Woe for a Faerie" ... or Daniel Humphreys' Paxton Locke novel Night's Black Agents.

Best Military SFF Novel
Daniel Humphrey's A Place For War.

Best Alternate History Novel: Hans Schantz's Brave and the Bold

Best Media Tie-In Novel: Thrawn: Alliance. It's Timothy Zahn doing a Thrawn novel.

Best Horror Novel... I'm going to recommend Hell Spawn, by a Declan Finn. :)
The premise is saint-cop versus possessed serial killer. Hilarity ensues.

Best Comic Book -- Dark Maiden #2, by Jonathan Baird. Joan of Arc fantasy comic book.

Best SFF TV Series -- God Friended Me ... Good writing. And they had about six opportunities to go woke and DID NOT TAKE THEM. It might actually be one of the better shows out there, with a solid character arc for everyone, even the bit players. And everything fit together brilliantly in the end.

I await the next season to screw it up, because television. So best give it an award while we can.

Best SFF Movie -- The Meg... Yes, I'm biased. I've only waited 20 flipping years for this movie.

Though wouldn't it be funny if it's The Meg vs Aquaman?

Water on water violence.

Best SFF PC / Console Game -- Spiderman, PS4, Insomniac games.

Declan, I'm a bit behind in your books, but you're behind Brian Neimeier, so don't feel bad. The "To Read" stack is dropping slowly. Busy with other projects.

Re: the Meg. Preferred the book. Preferred the Trench book to the Meg. Like you was hungry to see the Meg. No. Just no. Bad movie. Predictable, and at one point you know Jason Stathem is thinking "Why don't one of you other tosser's jump in the damn water and save the day."

A bit off topic, but a great Gamma to Alpha story for the YA in your life.

Certainly better than anything sci-fi, inc is going to put out in current year.

Loved all the comic output

How will we know when people have finally stopped paying attention to the Hugos and started paying attention to something else?

Best Movie: The Wandering Earth

It's actual hard science science fiction. Liu Cixin wrote the original book and was credited as Executive Producer.

*sigh* Why do I bother? Best science fiction movie is going to go to some superhero movie.

"How will we know when people have finally stopped paying attention to the Hugos and started paying attention to something else?"

You're soaking in it.
