Not a man of the Right

The American Right is finally beginning to grasp that Ben Shapiro is not, and never was, one of them... and he is not helping them either.
Suffice to say, Ben Shapiro was long overdue for his opportunity to be the one who gets “destroyed” in a debate. And who would’ve guessed that the occasion for his destruction would be in an interview with the septuagenarian Andrew Neil of the BBC?

And here’s the real twist: It was not even Neil who destroyed Shapiro. Rather, Shapiro “destroyed” Shapiro. And that was quite a feat.

From his ridiculous suggestion that Neil—a longtime member of the Conservative Party—is on the Left, to his pompous declaration that he is somehow superior because he is “more popular” than Neil, there is enough in the arrogance he displayed to undo him.

But rather than belabor the question of Shapiro’s childish behavior and what it says about his temper, his inability to debate anyone who’s not a blue-haired college feminist, and his unjustly inflated ego, it would be more useful to to examine what Shapiro revealed about his actual ideas, such as they are.

For even in that brief interchange before Shapiro stormed off in a rage, quite a lot was revealed about his political ideas. These are ripe for more careful examination, and that examination will demonstrate the inconsistencies within his own beliefs. In this case, his arrogance—though difficult to miss—should not overshadow how objectively wrong he is on the substance. Nor should it obscure how—in more ways than the damage that comes from such petulant displays—he is not helping the American Right.
One by one, the charlatans are being exposed. And it's particularly interesting to observe that this well-deserved dismissal of Ben Shapiro is being delivered by one of the young college Republican men who are supposed to be his primary supporters.

For all Shapiro's faults, he is right about Neil and the british "conservative" party: they're raging leftists.

the actual right was made illegal in labour's 2006 "hate speech" laws, as seen with the way "Britain First" was utterly disappeared and its party leaders imprisoned for advancing a photocopy of Trump's agenda and rhetoric.

If you absolutely, positively have to punch the self-destruct button, follow Benji's lead. It worked like a charm for him. And it can work for you too! /s

On a more serious note: I'm guessing the folks who financially back The Daily Wire can't be happy about any of this.

Blogger Sargent.matrim May 17, 2019 11:32 AM

I was shocked while listening to him in that interview that he didnt realize the interviewer was lobbing him softballs to hit out of the park, and yet he was striking out on virtually every question.

The interviewer was offering him a characature of leftist positions and saying: bat this down, yet he couldn't do it.

Are interviewers really that bad in the US, or is Ben Shaprio really that much of an intellectual imposter?

It was really shameful to watch. He dismantled himself thoroughly.

Blogger Quilp May 17, 2019 11:33 AM

Even Shapiro’s excuse for this shoddy interview performance seems to prove this theory. He claimed that he “wasn’t properly prepared” in advance . . . for an interview about a book that he just wrote.

"This is only worth mentioning because it further highlights how Shapiro truly only lives in the moment, and couldn’t care less about what happened yesterday or what could happen tomorrow. His entire persona is built on short clips of him “destroying” dumb college kids in rooms filled with hundreds of his fans, eager to offer him blind applause and accolades."
BAM

Shapironetics? I know you're a busy man, but I so despise this little creep. I had to spend quite a bit of time and energy convincing my DIL what the Judeo-christ prophet was actually doing.

Blogger TheMaleRei May 17, 2019 11:40 AM

It used to be fun to watch videos of Ben "destroying" some SJW, but now it's an eyerolling waste of time, all the more given how he's an enemy of a functioning USA, of which he counts himself apart.

It would be nice if he would just make a permanent journey to his homeland across the sea and bother them for a change.

Blogger 🐻Drew🐻 May 17, 2019 11:41 AM

I used to listen to shapiro often, however, in my defense I did notice that there were some inconsistencies... I could not figure out for the life of me why he would defend Michelle Fields, or consistently attack people like Milo or Steve Bannon. But it really wasn't until VD & BB pointed out just how hypocritical he was about his Jewish supremacy, his "rules for thee, not for me", and his constant banging of the war drums... With that being said its great to see him unraveling and others noticing hes not on our side!

Anonymous Anonymous May 17, 2019 11:53 AM

His fans need to ask themselves, is watching yet another androgynous blue hair college student get DESTROYED by stale Mitt Romney-esk talking points really helping the American people?

Also I wish he’d get pressed on “borders for me but not for thee Goy” that’d be priceless. Maybe if he’s dumb enough to cross swords with Tuckee again?

Nice summary takedown of Shapiro, but I wrinkle my nose a little at this sentence: "Patriotism is a generic love of one’s country, whereas nationalism is the belief that one’s country is the greatest country in the world, and therefore superior to all others."

Honestly, I don't give a rat's ass if anyone considered America the greatest country or superior to all others. Superlatives don't matter to me. What matters is that America is my country, for Americans who share a similar heritage by birth to me. What matters is that American politicians put America first. I fully expect French politicians to put France first, Japanese politicians to put Japan first, and Israeli politicians to put Israel first. There is no superiority in it. It’s simply saying that people should have a country of their own, not one overrun with people from a hundred other countries, not one ruled from afar by other countries.

If America is the best country in the world, then this claim justifies other people wanting to be in America. If America is the best nation for Americans, then foreign people aren't justified in making a claim in America.

"America is superior" is an entryway for globalism and neo-connery. If America is superior, we should be imposing Americanism all over the globe, and other peoples should want to be part of America. Leave the superiority out of it. I'm an American nationalist because America is my nation and not the escape or cash cow for people of other nations.

Ben Shapiro has always been about his own personality cult and it was always a mystery why anyone associated him with the Right. There are others who are equally vain and arrogant, but the point must be made that they are character actors, with no pretense of representing a political faction.

A person who is of the Right is going to study and learn what political philosophy and viewpoints can correctly be associated with the Right and they will represent that philosophy faithfully. Their own personal preferences and petty whims do not enter into it. They may actually wish the Right would be a bit heavier here and lighten up a bit there, but the Right is not for them to define or re-define. Either they are of the Right or they are not. Do they speak on behalf of a social and political movement or are they spouting their own preferences and tastes. In the case of Ben Shapiro, it seems it was always the latter.

There is nothing even remotely attractive about Shapiro. He is the most cringe-worthy people in all of media. His face is repulsive. His voice is grating and unpleasant. He does not have a single original thought. Outside of his voice, even the way he speaks is bad and unpleasant. He reminds me a chihuahua barking at me when he speaks.

He is a lot like black conservative women who get fawned over by the cucks in the establishment for regurgitating neocon nonsense.

@13 buzzardist

Excellent summary!
One of the best I have read.

I am reminded of a speech by JFK in Berlin at the Berlin Wall in June 1963. He said he was from Massachusetts and he is proud to be from Massachusetts and glad he considers himself to be a Massachusetts man. And if he were from anywhere else, he would be proud of that fact and tell people.

And if he were from Berlin, he would tell everyone ""Ich bin ein Berliner" (I am a Berliner), which was the only part the vast German audience actually understood about his speech. And so, unintended, the JFK speech at the Berlin Wall passed into history as inspired, even if the meaning was garbled at the time.

Patriotism and nationalism are the same thing; love of your fatherland and love of your native land/nation. Allowing the globalists to get away with claiming they are different phenomena is a mistake. Any time a globalist decries nationalism ask them why they aren't patriotic. At that point, their answer doesn't matter. The more they try to distinguish the two, the weaker and more deceptive they appear.

"Patriotism is a generic love of one’s country, whereas nationalism is the belief that one’s country is the greatest country in the world"

That is not what nationalism is. Nationalism means one believes that your government should put national interests first and foremost above all other interests. That is all it means.

I do not think America is the best country in the world. But I do think the American government has an obligation to act in the best interests of America. Always.

Ben is embarrassing himself even further; insulting, snarking and being so rude to an older gentleman - its no real surprise that others took serious notice.

Ben ruined that exchange with his attitude. Really, who can expect an apology from him at all - I do not know if its the duality of hollywood-his MD wife or Jordie but someone or Ben wants out so the ploy was set or very immature outburst to the BBC (of all outlets!) created him and his maker or hollywood agent very happy.

But Ben is not happy if he experienced a crisis of conscious, considering his age he will either destroy his brand, abandon it or stay with it and expect outbursts that make his fans cringe (or others helped him 'destroy' himself in global media, even though no thinking person can take him seriously as an American, Ben preaches his certain supremacy and its unfortunate and its his choice).

21 Boy's play and boy's talk, nothing more. Then again words have consequences.

Where does Ben's citizenship reside? He is not allowed to answer, but to give out word wizardry or neoconnery that would leave a Jewish historian in laughter or deep concern.

Ben's new book is not for Americans - I dont know whom its written for but the fans better wake up.

The answer is on his conscious talking about judeochristian anything, its insulting to Jewish elders and remains an exposed revision of America's Christian history.

These absurd labels of inclusion are inversions.

Ben cant answer due to duality, deception, putting out all these fires in media, keeping up with lies at twi-tar must be a real drain, a man that should go be with his family but he is too young yet and seems to lack any priorities but self promotion.

Its known that the agent(s) also control people at CNN to Fox so I too wish boomers and college kids would just abandon Ben and his writings, its same old nonsense from the 2000's at WND or Townhall.com.

Reconsider real citizenship in heaven, it exists, its real.

Riffing off the alleged JFK misspoken German here. The German grammar nazi meme needs to die with that story. That meme is English. Not German. The big clue that it's an English meme is that it has the word Nazi, an exonym.

It's a very precise language, true. and its speakers aren't so stupid and rude that they would make fun of an alleged gaffe by a non-native speaker visiting them let alone a visiting Chief Commander.

Correct an error sure, but making fun of strangers is like drawing embarrassment, which is culturally horrifying to Germanic language groups. Speakers usually seek to lessen embarrassment all around and what looks like making fun is actually expedient correction. It's a sign of care not mirth.

Of course speakers will smack you if you use JFK to hit Germans. You're just lucky Vox did not go full tilt and explain Berlin wasn't always the capital (I'm sure DonReynolds knows no shade to him here), that lots of Germanic languages have topographical names for foodstuffs, and a full brief on how annoying it is for English only speakers to correct German speakers in German convention. Germans can go on as long as they like telling stories to display a point. They just choose not to.

It's actually more embarassing to the self to insist Berliners cared about what JFK didn't say by telling that asine story. See Vox' reply. Very German in the mindset. Frank, to the point, kind. Kind by choice.

JFK wasn't insulting people, intended or unintended. If you're American and telling the story that JFK called himself a pastry you are insulting your own past Chief Commander. He was likewise a precise speaker and it's totally out of character for him to say what he allegedly said. Please drop it if you've told it.
