Book review: Killing Commendatore

Unauthorized subscribers of a literary bent may be interested in watching my first Unauthorized book review, which is of Haruki Murakami's Killing Commendatore. It's very good, and very much indicative of the great Japanese novelist's return to form.

If you're interested in picking up a copy after watching this, we have the hardcover available on the Castalia Direct store at a discount or you can preorder the paperback for $12.99.

I'm just finishing it. (Picked up a copy on my Kobo after VD's recommendation. Needless to say I'm going to check out Murakami's other works too.) Extremely good story. Loved the supernatural/fantasy vibe with a dollop of just telling a damned good story without wagging a finger.

OT: VD, did you hear about Anita Sarkeesian's recent misfortune? FemFreq is ready to go down the tubes. 8D

What do you think of his book of interviews of the Sarin attack survivors?

It was fascinating. First-class journalism.

on the Castalia Direct store at a discount

Castalia is showing it at the $30 list price. Amazon might have it on sale right now as it is less than half of that, 56% off.

Found it in the local library, recognized the authors name from here (good sales work by the way). About 1/2 way through and finding it very... interesting (in the good sense). For whatever reason, i'm filing it with the Gene Wolfe school (not as challenging to follow, but i'm certainly going to find more of this author's work). Really tempted to buy the hardcover, but the remodel budget is making things tight.

It's fixed. Now $24.99. You can also preorder the paperback if you wish.

Borrowed it from the local library, after reading the initial info here. Intriguing. It reads like a Japanwse watercolor, with a couple understated lines some color expositions, and then contemplation of what's revealed on the paper.

Cannot use Castalia, so used alternative source. (Copyright issues from Commonwealth countries -- outside of Castalia House's control)

Murakami turned 70 in January. I was unsuccessful in my attempts to find your post on aging writer's decline in creativity? productivity? Murakami would appear to be bucking that trend and I was interested in what factors you might attribute to this.

I'd like to support the author, but I have this bad habit of not finishing around 90% of the books I buy and my modest collection (about 50 or so) is already making me feel pretentious enough.

So ska boss you've read 5 books? I think you can cram some more in the noggin
