Unauthorized medieval history

Unauthorized.tv is pleased to present Episode I in Prof. Rachel Fulton Brown's Medieval History 101 series, entitled Getting Medieval on Medieval History. The history series is for subscribers, but the first episode is free for everyone. The course guide and a recommended reading list is available here. This should further demonstrate Unauthorized's commitment to continuously raising the intellectual bar in the service of the Good, the Beautiful, and the True. In my experience, one of the best ways to avoid being deceived is to know history. There is, as we are told, very little that is new under the sun, and the deceptions that are being put into practice today have often been utilized in the past.

And if you're not a subscriber yet, but you want to support more of these video projects, you can get on board here.

UPDATE: The supporting blog post, with references.

@dread ilk @vfm etc. Subscribe if you haven't done so already. This is absolutely worth supporting and has potential to be a game changer (aside from the valuable content) as it demonstrates how to build your own platform.

Great video! I tried to re-read Connecticut Yankee recently, but I couldn't take it seriously because of the ridiculous and lazy falsification of medieval history.

Blogger TPhillips June 27, 2019 9:07 AM

This was great, I'm really looking forward to the rest of it.

Rachel Fulton Brown's course is not to be missed. Unlike too many modern Medievalists, she believes in God, and in the true, the good, and the beautiful.

Such things are not museum exhibits-- stuffed, pinned like insects, and rendered harmless. They are dangerous & alive, just like God Himself. Reality-bombs, just waiting to go off, and wake us up.

Looking forward to watching on wifi. Great thumbnail. What battle are we looking at?

Have you considered launching some sort of identity service. Essentially a common identity for use across infogalactic, social galactic, unauthorized, etc. I would think there is an open source platform for this. Unfortunately the short term effort would probably be greater than copy pasting user creation systems to each site.

No, we are sufficiently busy at the moment.

The first episode was far better than I had even hoped. RFB is a gem among professors.

Blogger Mark K. June 27, 2019 10:10 AM

Really enjoyed this, looking forward to the next.

By the way, I really like that videos don't auto-start on UA. It's a small thing, but those add up.

This is already incredible! Thank you Vox, Dr. Brown, and the whole Castalia, Unauthorized, team! I know I'm getting WAYYYY ahead of myself, but after reading Dr. Brown's CV, I hope we can get a course on Tolkien for Unauthorized. I've got a newborn and a 3 year old, but I'm already imagining how useful this service will be for our future homeschooling plans. Well done!

Downloading the video to learn and enjoy later. I'll note that even the soi disant 'static museum exhibits' are dangerous, when you compare across historic sites or even down the halls. You can make connections among noble and royal families, merchants, and monasteries to see what rivalries were going on, and how old some feuds and bad blood are. Also see the trade routes, trade goods, and who or what was controlling important nodes, ports, and sea or land lanes.

@12 "I hope we can get a course on Tolkien for Unauthorized"

That is a great suggestion. Does Professor RFB also study Tolkien?

Yes, according to her CV she teaches courses related to the works of Tolkien.

I'm watching the first episode right now. Take my money.

Blogger SidVic June 27, 2019 1:41 PM

Yeah i liked it.

Blogger justaguy June 27, 2019 1:44 PM

With so much free content available today, this series is worth the subscription. This i course not taught anywhere else. Keep it up.

Blogger GK Chesterton June 27, 2019 1:52 PM

So I subscribed using Owen, but I want to make sure she gets a share...is that already happening? Is there something I'd have to do?

Blogger Knight of Logos June 27, 2019 2:22 PM

A good first episode. I look forward to the rest of the class! It's nice to see the steady building of great content providers on Unauthorized.TV. Considering how new the platform is, that is impressive.

Blogger Door in the Hill June 27, 2019 3:08 PM

Will there be an Unauthorized History subscription coming? My resources are limited, and I'd like to direct my support where the draw to get me to subscribe is coming from.

Blogger doctrev June 27, 2019 3:25 PM

This is an amazing class, in a word. The reading list alone is very well done, and most of it is free on Gutenberg. The Talisman alone is a very good antidote to the notion of Sir Walter Scott as intolerant and overrated as an author.

Truly impressive considering they rolled it out earlier than planned after Youtube unexpectedly de-monetized Big Bear.

Duke Norfolk wrote:By the way, I really like that videos don't auto-start on UA. It's a small thing, but those add up.

Agreed. However, when watching a video to the end, it will auto-start the previous video on that channel, e.g. at the end of the The Legend's latest video or the latest Darkstream, the previous videos will successively auto-play all the way back to the first one. Please mark this on the list to remove this feature or provide the option to turn it off.

Will there be an Unauthorized History subscription coming?

Eventually, but not any time soon. I'd recommend a Basic subscription for the time being.

If you're doing the Owen sub, then you're only supporting Owen with your sub money. You would want to change your subscription type to also support Prof. Brown.

You can do that by going to the UTV site, and click on Dashboard, then going to the Billing tab. Click Change Plan and select a Basic/Premium/Annual subscription.

Note that this would be at least $10/mo, a little more than the Owen only $5/mo sub. Support what you like!

Thanks Vox! Gotta check it out

This wonderful woman is truly a much-needed Godsend! After about 30 seconds of watching her video I was like "Yeah, you're the real deal, take my money now."

Blogger mrpinks June 28, 2019 6:53 AM

What a great find! Thanks Vox for bringing us another messenger of the Truth!

I really enjoyed this and can't wait to get the following lectures. Will Castalia carry some of the recommended texts?

Love to explore more interesting medieval history to clear some raised questions in my mind.
