Everyone is a conspiracy theorist now

Allahpundit finally breaks:
Me before Epstein’s death: Conspiracy theories are facile misdirections favored by people who crave simplistic explanations to soothe their own feelings of powerlessness.

Me now: The Illuminati whacked Epstein.

Everything’s on the table.
Conspiracy theory is the only credible theory of history.

His prior thinking on conspiracy theories was stupid. For a start, conspiracies are rarely the most simple explanation.

Official history is normally conspiracy just without the tag.

The history books are full of well-known and widely accepted conspiracies. The conspiracies to assassinate Caesar and Lincoln, for instance. When people claim to reject conspiracy theories, they really just mean the subset that they personally don't believe at this time. The ones they do believe aren't theories, they're just facts.

Blogger Crew August 10, 2019 5:58 PM

Blogger J Van Stry August 10, 2019 6:13 PM

I have learned from personal experience that conspiracies are the NORM for human beings. People don't like to do something alone, especially not if it's hard, dangerous, or difficult. People like to bring their friends in on it. They want people to brag to, they want people to tell them that they're doing the 'right thing' so they can justify their actions.

Only sociopaths work alone.

The thing about conspiracies is sooner or later, someone talks, either to brag or to beg forgiveness. But they always talk eventually. Unless they're dead.

Blogger PG August 10, 2019 6:15 PM

I often walk among the normal folk, probably because I'm on the cusp, and I witness their reactions to life events and quiz them, kindly, about the possibilities of things not being as they seem. In general, I don't see much conspiracy theory in these people. Perhaps they have a smudge of doubt, but it's wiped off their minds and quickly forgotten as they return to day-to-day life. They don't seem to hold much interest in such things, they show no preference for it.

I find that higher IQ folk tend to underestimate how "stupid" the typically normal person is.

Blogger [Redacted] August 10, 2019 6:27 PM

If conspiracy theory goes mainstream, Supreme or some other corporation will make branded tinfoil hats and try to claim ownership of conspiracy theory the same way The Coca-Cola Company used Sprite to influence black identity in the 90s. Some ridiculous appeal to market "knowledge is power" to rebellious young people, corral them, and legitimize the degeneracy of the ruling status quo in a way that the media fails to do. There will be a few more datapoints to go before that really takes root though.

Blogger Joe August 10, 2019 6:34 PM

"In a sense this was the worst move they could make. This has turned everyone's attention to this, piqued everyone's curiosity and made sure that more journalists and others will look into this. "

They knew that nobody would believe it's a suicide; they did it anyway, such is their desperation. They calculated that it would be better for everybody to know beyond a shadow of a doubt that they murder witnesses to cover up child-rape than to let him talk. If there are no repercussions against them than we'll know their reach is worse than everybody suspected. It could all happen behind the scenes -- not everybody that gets suicided is a victim of the bad guys.

I think a good amount of the lack of interest can be chalked up to people's stupidity, but as a younger person, I have seen that most people simply check out in order to distract themselves. Whether the distraction is marijuana, alcohol, video games, etc., most seem content to skate by rather than consider the future. Something like the Epstein conspiracy may wake some of them up. I would not hold my breath.

Even if you buy that he committed suicide, someone called off the suicide watch only three weeks after he supposedly tried it before. That looks shady in itself. There's also the question of cameras: will we hear that the security cameras were mysteriously out of order during the event? What about the ordinary guards, why didn't they hear or see anything and stop him? How did he get the materials to make a noose? There are a lot of questions raised for even the most credulous normie.

Epstein's lawyers wanted a year to review the massive amount of evidence against him.

This would not fit into Trump's schedule on draining the swamp.

Oh by the way, now that Epstein is supposedly dead, there is no one left to object to the searching of his house. Any evidence obtained thereby will be admissible in court.

If certain individuals are strategizing, and running decisions through some form of AI, this would have been a doozy of an AI query. Risk of Epstein living, telling tales - terrible risk. Long-term risk of deep-state decloacking, Wrath of Khan style, perhaps for the first time in human history - unknown risk.

On the upside, this all looks very very rushed. Botched even. I too do not rule out the Gitmo option. Answer the nice men, Jeffrey, and it will all stop.

"It could all happen behind the scenes -- not everybody that gets suicided is a victim of the bad guys."

It is strongly suspected that notorious Oakland County Child Killer of 1976-77 (who sexually abused most of his(?) victims before killing them) was suicided by an Oakland County deputy who was able figure out who the guy was... and decided to not enter into a conspiracy.

https://infogalactic.com/info/Oakland_County_Child_Killer
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oakland_County_Child_Killer

Wiki's current state suggests that it might have been a group effort, rather than an individual, who was abducting and killing the children. Possibly, but if so, someone figured out who was doing the abducting, and killed him.

Pedos seem to be the only people who can count on their co-conspirators to a) NOT let word slip out, not even as "a rumor," and b) not volunteer information to the police about such conspiracies unless facing significant legal penalties.

But once one of their own IS in police custody, and it becomes obvious that the guy is going to be facing a LONG time in prison, if not worse, then they lose trust in their "fellow member of society who is only being oppressed(!) because he like kids."

For a brief period starting 1994, The Coca-Cola Company marketed Sprite with black rappers, athletes, and young black men with the slogan "Obey Your Thirst". It was a huge "urban-themed" market push. In portraying black icons across most of the social strata, The Coca-Cola Company commandeered the image of black people. Other companies got in on it with collaborative promotions to merge various brands with black cultural identity. At one point a Coca-Cola spokesperson said "We Are Hip Hop. We are Black People." I can't find that exact footage, but here is this:

https://www.coca-colacompany.com/stories/obeying-the-verse-since-the--80s--inside-sprite-s-longstanding-t
https://www.coca-colacompany.com/au/news/sprite-hip-hop.html

The point is that consumerism creates consumption-based identities and corporations try to memory-hole their way into legitimacy by distorting the way success is portrayed within demographics. I was cynically implying that if conspiracy theory goes mainstream, it will be capitalized and neutralized by similar forces.

The simplicity point about lure of CT is not that CTs are simpler in the details, but that having a slam dunk black hat organized bad guy/group to deal with, if only they can be fully exposed, makes the overall situation feel like it could have an easy resolution.
As a practical matter, I do think the dramatic overreach of CTers makes it easy for them to be discredited to normies even when they might actually be 90% right about the meat of the situation.

Epstein having his underage hookers as leverage extending all over the place for some as yet unknown set(s) of beneficiaries? Absolutely. The basement dungeon of Comet Pizza? Ehhh.
Or another re 911 Truthers and controlled demolition,"fire cant melt steel" idiocy, fake, patsies of Mossad, CIA, etc? Color me very, very skeptical. OTOH something far more plausible yet less dramatic would be some group in Mossad catching wind of Bin Ladens plot... And burying the intel instead of sharing.

Blogger Dirk Manly August 10, 2019 10:50 PM

Exactly.
The reaction to a follow-up event could make things very dicey.

If another mass shooting happens (especially if there are initial reports of multiple shooters), expect the public.... even the news twerps... to look at the whole thing as planned and directed street theater to get people to stop deliberating WHICH of the possible conspiracies surrounding Epstein's
supposed suicide reflects the ACTUAL conspiracy (as, at this point, there is no doubt SOME conspiracy involved in this, we just don't know WHICH it is).

In any event, this has shaken the public to the core. People are NOT going to react to the usual events in the usual way. This is how landslides and avalanches start. Instead of kinetic energy being dissipated, it converts the potential energy of more mass into kinetic energy.

The same thing happens with social mood.

Harper's Ferry didn't trigger a civil war (even though there was already lethal violence in both directions in "Bleeding Kansas" when John Brown, his sons, and some others set out from there to the Federal Armory (A weapons factory and warehouse site) at Harper's Ferry.

In 2013, an anonymous informant reported a blue AMC Gremlin buried in a farm field now being developed in Grand Blanc. Police are investigating the Gremlin for ties to the crime as Timothy King was last seen in a blue Gremlin.[22] However, it is common for farmers to dispose of unwanted automobiles using this method.

wut?

what kind of retarded shiznat is that? common?

lessee, i can call somebody to come haul my trash car away and they'll give me a couple of hundred dollars for it

OR

i can waste the better part of a day digging a hole with a backhoe ( assuming i'm a farmer who has a backhoe, many don't ), shoving the car into it and then covering it back up again.

do farmers sometimes bury trash out on the back 40? sure. but that's usually trash trees or brush or something that they don't want to pay disposal fees or deal with the fire department or DNR on.

if you're burying a car, it's because you're trying to HIDE something.

Blogger furor kek tonicus ( Baltimore is a rathole, WhiteManBad ) August 10, 2019 11:51 PM

it should be difficult for a FBI admins to engage in sedition, conspiracy and, likely enough, treason against the sitting POTUS.

yet Comey and Strzok did exactly that.

Comey and Strzok are gone. but how many of the Clinton / Obama / Bush cabal are still ensconced in their sinecures? that's 28 years they'll have had to install their most trusted people where ever they wanted them.

are you QUITE certain that there aren't enough of them left to assert that they don't have the authority / influence to do x, y or z?

especially when there are multiple billionaires eager to foot whatever bill might be due in order to conceal their own crimes?

remember, Wexner sold a penthouse to Epstein for $1. and now claims that Epstein was improperly appropriating funds while he was 'managing' Wexner's assets.

somehow, Wexner lost track of hundreds of millions, possibly billions of dollars, to someone to whom he is in the habit of making straw sales too.

that's completely legit.

Blogger DonReynolds August 11, 2019 12:37 AM

In the movie version, to be released in thirty years, no one will be surprised that a multi-billionaire in 2019 used a tiny fraction of his dough to walk out of jail and leave the country, wearing an Obama mask, with suicide as his cover story, and everyone who was paid along the way (including the guards) retire at a young age. Call it a Witness Protection Program.

Jeffrey is given a new island in the Pacific, and stocks his pond with lovely fishes....which is nicknamed Saint Helena....and the political farce is reset as though nothing ever happened.

And they all lived Happily Ever After.

You did not really believe a billionaire would actually stay in a New York City jail for very long, did you? After all, jail may have been the safest place for him to be, until all the exit arrangements had been completed.

The Raid on Harpers Ferry, Virginia was in mid-October 1859. All of those captured (including John Brown) were tried and executed by mid-December 1859, except one who escaped...and he was hanged in mid-March 1860. Five avoided capture and all served in the Union army during the civil war, only two of which survived 1865.

The Federal elections were in November 1860 and Lincoln took the oath of office in March 1861. All seems pretty fast considering how slow things moved in those days.

Blogger map August 11, 2019 1:29 AM

People still operate under the theory that a conspiracy is like a start-up. A start-up needs an enormous amount of cooperation and transparency to get off the ground. It needs employees, vendors, customers, investors, creditors, etc. to be at all a viable concern. People apply this start-up model of a conspiracy and ask “how do all of these people keep it quiet?” If you recruit all of these resources, then how do you avoid the risk of one of these recruits ratting you out?

The answer is quite simple. While the purpose of a start-up is the start-up itself, the purpose of a conspiracy is not the conspiracy itself. Conspiracies are vehicles by which like-minded people find each other. The like-mindedness, in both ends and means, is why conspiracies can be both vast and effective.

Anonymous conservative has a great thread on Epstein, arguing that the purpose being carted out is not him (nose and ear don’t match.)

Think about Hitler, the chosen tool for bringing about the United States of Europe; the soviets (who lied about everything) identified his remains from a tooth. Easy enough to extract a tooth and use it as such evidence. I’m not saying that’s what happened, I’m making a broader point; we have no idea what happened except we have good reasons to doubt the veracity of the official history.

Here's the case for it having been rendition. First, they waited until the judge released documents exonerating Trump. If it was the paedophiles themselves, why not kill him before that happened? As far as I understand it, the trial will halt now that the accused is dead. Perhaps this was just the earliest they could arrange it, but it seems unlikely.

Secondly, if Epstein really was a foreign asset, what are the odds of him going on the stand and telling the truth? Imagine, instead, him swearing under oath that Donald Trump was his most loyal customer. There's plenty of evidence to disprove the claim, but that wouldn't stop the left from taking to the streets and demanding Trump's impeachment. If that happened, it would be a brave senator or congressman who argued against it - and they're not exactly in the majority.
Plenty of normally law-abiding members of the administration would be prepared to look the other way in this case and let things get dealt with off the books.

@67- Yeah, I don't know where that 10 years came from.

Speaking of conspiracy theories, John Brown and his boys may have been fanatics but really they were mercenary thugs. Their little insurrection would have been impossible without funding from the so-called Secret Six. A group of abolitionists from the land of Harvard and Emerson and whatnot who plotted violent rebellion against the federal government.

It has already been stated that it will continue because there was a conspiracy count. Also and separately, it won't effect the lawsuit against the Maxwell chick, except that now Epstein can't object to how evidence was acquired from him.

@19 "They knew that nobody would believe it's a suicide; they did it anyway, such is their desperation."

Desperation or is it still arrogance? Unless there's a lot more behind-the-scenes 'crippling' of the enemy than Q and Q+ have tipped us to, there is STILL no apparent movement in ending the criminality and depravity that is destroying us.

More than a million "immigrants" are still making it in this year -- and WE are paying to bus and FLY them into innocent NON-sanctuary towns and cities.

I'm clinging to hope with my fingernails, mostly thanks to the wise men here in Vox's world, but it's close to impossible to keep making myself believe that somehow 'our side' has succeeded in kidnapping Epstein to keep him safe as a weapon. That seems waaaaay less likely than that he was pretty easily killed off because our side was too stupid to know this would happen.

And I'm beginning to conclude that despite all the disclaimers to the contrary by all the new honchos Trump has put in office, a huge proportion of the FBI 'rank-and-file' is pretty damned near as corrupt as the top ranks!

@32 "now that Epstein is supposedly dead, there is no one left to object to the searching of his house."

I keep seeing that idea around the web. I expect Epstein HAD a will -- and thus inheritors for his property... Even without probate, I also expect that the govt can't just go in and toss the place -- although apparently they already DID when he was arrested; that's where they found the pedo stuff in his safe, yes?

When a guy dies, his property doesn't become "un-owned" -- it becomes "in transit to the heirs" and thus under the control of the probate court. Lots and LOTS of hoops to jump through to deal with the various properties until after probate; assuming no trust -- likely he wasn't stupid enough NOT to have a trust to manage all his shell corps and etcs. Either the court manages it, or the trust automatically throws the stuff to the heirs WITHOUT needing to go through probate...

SOMEONE still owns all that stuff, and has all the legal protections allegedly provided by our form of govt.

@45 "Only someone completely illiterate on the nature of power, money, and politics would disbelieve the existence of conspiracies."

So, that would be the 49% of this country who are liberal/commie idiots, snowflakes, and foreigners/paperwork Americans?! Although I wouldn't be surprised that many of the FOREIGNERS know all about conspiracies from their homelands. Only our poor naive uneducated hyper-protected idiot children -- of whatever age: and so that includes pretty much ALL BOOMERS! -- can't fathom conspiracies.

And I am a boomer, and just got a week-suspension on a gun forum for racissssss: it ain't 'civil' to try to awaken the sleepers, by asking "just who ARE you arming up to protect yourselves against, eh?! Can you not SEE the hot war finally getting close? Sheesh."

I'll bet Ben Shapiru received this memo.

The most important aspect here is that this was a major red pill event, no matter what actually happened, almost no one believes the MSM account of what happened.

Also from the Treehouse. This ties in with the 'rank-and-file FBI being.... what? Useless? Corrupt? Blind? Venal?

Former FBI Asst. Director of Counter Intelligence Floats Conspiracy of President Trump Using Code Words To Trigger Nazis…
Posted on August 7, 2019 by sundance

If you ever wondered why the FBI would ignore warnings from Russia about the Boston Marathon bombers; or if you ever wondered how the FBI could overlook the warnings from local residents about the San Bernardino terrorists; or if you ever wondered how and why the FBI would ignore reports from the Florida sheriff about the Pulse Nightclub terrorist; or if you ever wondered why the FBI ignored the repeated warnings about the Parkland shooter…. well, here’s the answer. Try to fathom this focused stupidity.

Mr. Frank Figliuzzi is the former Asst. Director of the FBI for Counterintelligence. Figliuzzi is now an MSNBC expert. The former FBI official is promoting a conspiracy theory that President Trump is sending secret coded signals to white supremacists. According to Figliuzzi, the President told government to keep U.S. flags flying at half-staff until August 8th, because Donald Trump was really saying heil Hitler.

They're not anti-conspiracy. They believed in the Trump-Russia conspiracy theories. Most people are conspiracy theorists, they really just fear the label like the other guy said.

Most people I know aware of real conspiracies simply don't care to be the whistleblowers. "How could all these people keep a secret?" also assumes for no reason that everyone wants to be a whistleblower and take on the hassle of a conflict with powerful people.

They have worked under corrupt management for their entire careers. Some know that it is all wrong, but for many, all they know is how to operate in a corrupt system. The "new" leadership are internal people who have always worked in that corrupt system as well. The second an outsider like Ratcliffe looked like he was going to take over at CIA someone got him a message that it would work out better for him if he withdrew.

Dirk Manly wrote:I had the same sorts of thoughts when I read the statements that farmers do this routinely sort of thing. Junk is valuable. The only reason to bury an old car is to use it as a septic tank.

Blogger Dirk Manly August 11, 2019 2:09 PM

Exactly...which is why nobody buries cars. All kinds of items inside a car have value as objects in themselves to be used to build other things, not only as "a piece of an 2004 Chevy."
