Song of Women

The palm tree grows and flowers As she sings softly my soul retains Honorable lady Compassionate and delicate The Argali springs and flies in the mountains Her fondness melts me languidly Honorable lady Compassionate and lovely The birds sing and tweet in the blue sky They are happy and joyful in their souls Honorable lady Compassionate and mesmerizing With the precious words of your forefathers With the milk blessed road of your mother's, the true path With the power of love for your motherland Have a fighter spirit in your body, be steady As if you were a sword with a sharp blade As if you were an arrow ready to shoot, spring and fly, ride and rise

Great song. Hell, the entire album is great.

Conundrum of modernity. Do honorable women twerk?

FEMALE EMPOWERMENT

Beautiful music and vocals.

Maybe music will be greatlike this someday.

*Still a gender equality denier*

This whole album is amazing. Thanks for recommending the Hu Vox!

Blogger Tom September 14, 2019 11:52 AM

Their album will show up in my mailbox some time later today. Can't wait!

@ Blunt Force

All twerkers are dishonorable, but not all dishonorable women twerk.

That art is awesome. Though, anything that gives me nostalgia for 80s and 90s fantasy side-scrollers is a win in my book.

Hi Vox, I'll also add my thanks to you for bringing The Hu Band forward through your blog. My wife purchased tickets for next Saturday's show in Ft.Lauderdale. It will be our first "metal" date in years.

Where is civilisation without men romancing women?

Where is civilisation when Romance becomes your god?

Personally I would probably enjoy listening to that chant if it were in a language I could understand. As it is I keep wondering what is wrong with that man's voice.

Blogger pdwalker September 14, 2019 2:53 PM

@12 beauty is beauty. Sometimes you don't need to understand the words to recognize the beautiful when you hear it.

I liked the song so much, I bought the album.

Half the songs make me want to run out in the street shouting "Don't forget. It's rape, pillage and then burn"

I'm toying with an attempt to "improve" the English translation of the lyrics.

IN THE SHADE OF PALMS SPRING FORTH LILIES OF THE VALLEY,
THEIR SING-SONG VOICES SWELL MY SOUL TO OVERFLOWING --
OH, VIRTUOUS LADY!
COMPASSIONATE & TENDER...

AS THE RAMS DODGE & BOUND AMONG THE ROCK & THE RILL,
THEIR HEARTS IMBUED OF HER MONOTONOUS LANGUOR --
OH, VIRTUOUS LADY!
COMPASSIONATE & FULL OF GLORY...

AS THE BIRDS SING-SONG & TWEET-TWEET WITHIN AN ENDLESS SKY-HIGH SKY,
THEIR SOULS FILLED TO OVERFLOWING OF JOY & PEACE --
OH, VIRTUOUS LADY!
COMPASSIONATE & CAPTIVATING...

OF PATRIARCHY, LAW & JUSTICE;
OF HOME & HEARTH, GRACE & TRUTH;
OF NATIONAL UNITY, POWER & MIGHT;
IN GOD IS OUR TRUST --
ALL OTHER,
PAY CASH.

Yes, yes, a work in progress, to be sure; and sure to be made better, by learning a little of their language, of Mongolia & suburbia.

What a beautiful song! The lyrics make me wistful that I don’t understand the origin language.

When my husband was deployed to Kabul, the Mongols were the base security force. To watch them run to the sound of explosions and gunfire is a sight to see, he says. Everyone leaps to get out of their way. To be guarded by Mongolians is to feel entirely secure.

My favorite story is the reaction of Mongolians to Mongolian Barbecue Night at the chow hall. They are apparently quite impressed with it, although it has nothing at all to do with real Mongolian cuisine. When asked what real Mongolians eat for dinner:

Mongolian: Boiled meat.
American: Well, what do you eat for breakfast?
Mongolian: Boiled meat.
American: And what do you eat for lunch?
Mongolian: Boiled meat.

I guess all that boiled meat makes for some good Mongolian singing voices!

The HU is great. This is an excellent first album and I'm envious of anyone that gets to see them on tour.

Blogger VD September 14, 2019 8:33 PM

Nope, not my culture. I'm not even going to crack the seal on that. Instead, I will walk down to the beach and feel the warm sun on my face and breath deep the clean south pacific air. I will smile and think in wonder of the, non Mongolian, ancestors who brought me to this paradise.

No one here gives a quantum of a damn what you think, do, or say. You're banned.

Blogger VD September 14, 2019 8:40 PM

Aren't women the enemy?

No. Don't be any more stupid than you need to be.

Blogger Dave Dave September 14, 2019 9:29 PM

The HU will perform in Portland and Seattle with Babymetal. Anyone in the area is highly encouraged to go.

Blogger BuoyBear September 14, 2019 9:35 PM

I saw them in Minneapolis. If you have the opportunity to see them, I absolutely recommend you go.

Although, because this was Minnesota, everyone in the audience tried to stand as still as possible while they listened to the music.

This one was good but I still like The Great Chinggis Khaan better.

are you homo?

second question, did you used to go by "Frank (the spank)"?

Blogger Jill in StL September 15, 2019 2:39 AM

Thank you for introducing The HU to me! I may be slightly older now and I may not understand the lyrics without a "cheat sheet", but I am still that geekie Music Ed major from college who just loves to be introduced to incredibly wonderful and inspirational music! Love everything about this music, will be purchasing their album, and they are coming to StL, so I will also be purchasing tickets asap!

Blogger JG September 15, 2019 8:29 AM

These guys build an amazing soundscape from such "primitive" instruments.

Blogger Cataline Sergius September 15, 2019 8:57 AM

The throat singing is the thing tha really intrigues me.

I can definitely spot elements of Buddhist chanting which raises the quetion of which came first the chicken or the egg?

While Mongolia is majority Buddhist with 53%, atheism coming in second at 38%, there is still a tiny percentage that follows Mongolian Shaminism.

Which raises another question; how do Mongols in general feel about their old religion. Is there something in Wolf Totem that touches their deepest hearts?

I first heard the Hu from a coworker. Then Vox started with the videos and now have tickets to their Nashville show in a pretty tight venue. i am a bit excited.

Blogger Crew September 15, 2019 1:56 PM

I am waiting for the SJWs to start claiming The Hu have Nazi symbols in their videos!

What? They're coming to Nashville?? I gettin' tickets now.

It's amazing how a band from Mongolia who are obviously inspired by their own ancestral spirit are so chill-inspiring. The nations each have their own place on the Earth that their ancestors fought for or found, and find their voice from that place. This voice from their soul inspires other nations. Gotta love that throat singing.

Actually, until women stop voting against the interests of white men, they are the enemy.

Blogger Nathan Hornok September 15, 2019 5:33 PM

Those lyrics are beautiful. Art is so much better when it is tied to tradition with a reverence for the past.

Blogger William Hughes September 16, 2019 9:37 AM

It is very accessible - I expected it to sound more alien. They lyrics are inspiring. I scanned the other comments but how much is due to the translation? Is it a literal translation?
