Christianity isn't etiquette

Matt muses over what I would call "churchianity" rather than "Middle Class Christianity", but the point is essentially the same:
A lot of what is called Christian morality today is not necessarily Christian, but more accurately described as Middle Class Christianity. It is the Christianity influenced by the Victorian era politeness and the rather quiet in door working spaces of many Christians, who tend heavily towards the middle class.

Here are examples of the difference:

Middle Class Christianity: Don't be harsh and use mean words to those who come to you, especially if they are in need.

Christianity: Jesus said to the Syrophoenician woman: You don't give the children’s food to the dogs (Matt 15:21-28, Mark 7:24-30).

Middle Class Christianity: It is wrong to even insult those who reject the message of Jesus.

Christianity: Jesus said to the disciples to shake the dust of their feet when leaving an unbelieving town or even home (Matt 10:14). A visible and very offensive gesture in his day. Use your imagination to think of similar offensive gestures

Middle Class Christianity: Quiet kindness and addressing your audience in calm smooth tones is the way to address people. Don’t use ad-hominins, stereotypes, or harsh language.

Christianity: Jesus in the gospel of Matthew: Woe to you Pharisees, you brood of vipers, you snakes, you white-washed tombs, you rotten corpses twice dead, you sons of hell (Matt 23).
Your average Churchian is the modern equivalent of a Pharisee, wrongly thinking himself superior to Jesus Christ and shaking his head in judgement of what he sees as the Son of Man's inferior comportment.

These same mild manners of churchianity allows the rest of the world to walk all over you, while you appear weak like a cuck or gamma. We are supposed to follow the example Christ set for us.

This reminds me of the chapter on Ernest Hemingway in Paul Johnson's "Intellectuals". Parents were strict hard-working middle class types from Chicago that read from the Bible every day and washed the mouth with soap of any of their kids caught lying. He developed a lifelong disgust and hatred for his mother after she compared motherly affection with a bank account to which every child is given and must eventually pay back:

" Flowers, fruit or candy, or something pretty to wear, brought home to Mother with a kiss and a squeeze . . . A surreptitious paying of bills, just to get them off Mother's mind . . . deposits which keep the account in good standing. Many mothers I know are receiving these and much more substantial gifts and returns from sons of less abilities than my son.

Unless, you, my son, Ernest, come to yourself. cease your lazy loafing and pleasure seeking. . . stop trading on your handsome face. . . and neglecting your duties to God and your Savior, Jesus Christ . . . there is nothing before you but bankruptcy: You have overdrawn."

How often have we heard and read "Who do you think you are and where did you get the right to judge?"
Well.
I know exactly who I am and yes, I WILL judge because I can.
Leftists, degenerates, and people of the lie fear judgement. They actually squirm in private over the thought of someone somewhere judging them. Where the SJW wants you to say there are 5 lights instead of 4 without actually breaking you enough to think there are 5, their propensity has a feedback loop that is equally tormenting to them. After all, they operate on that frequency so they are also stuck living in it. And that electronic squeal in the amplifier that breaks their ears is judgement.
I fail to fully grasp though how these people can be such walking trainwrecks so far as quality of personality and prowess is concerned while running from judgement so hard they want to criminalize it. Or maybe that's their game: be such a horror that judgment of them is inescapable yet they will demand, under threat of law and violence - I repeat myself - that you cannot judge them and ruin your life if you do.
To them, just being something else other than them, or being a better person, is some kind of aggression. Hence when grabbler hobgoblins snark and smugly hold signs boasting of your replacement, having at least 3 kids and homeschooling them is the best thing you can do.
And telling those kids about them so they can judge too. Ohhhh that's gotta hurt.

Blogger Doktor Jeep October 25, 2019 7:08 AM

And I forget to add, to these people, Christianity itself has inherent judgement of degenerates and liars. It's built in, which is why they seek to either destroy it, or deball it. Hence the Christcuckery.

Blogger Emmanuel October 25, 2019 7:11 AM

"after she compared motherly affection with a bank account to which every child is given and must eventually pay back:"

Considering lots of people here believe in works based salvation and don't believe Christ's atonement on the cross was sufficient to save anyone and that once salvation is accepted it can't be lost... what's the problem? No, seriously? What's the big deal? That's exactly the kind of hard-line, Catholic-esque ethos and rhetoric you'd expect from someone who believes that works are what saves you and can be lost, IE, lots of people here. In fact, Hemingway himself likely believed works are what saved you, only probably in the atheist/agnostic way, IE, the Carl Sagan only science/aliens/the singularity can save mankind, even if his definition of saving was purely materialistic.

Blogger Nathan October 25, 2019 7:14 AM

Well, there is stuff like this too:

And the Lord's servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will (II Timothy 2: 24-26)

Then again, you can't say Jesus was wrong to take the tack he did against those who opposed him.

Blogger Stilicho October 25, 2019 7:18 AM

Virtue signaling is the purpose of churchianity. It's a means of elevating personal preferences to a moral imperative and passing judgment based on those preferences. And where SJW'S deny the parts of reality that give them bad feelz, churchians deny the parts of scripture that do the same to them. Churchians always lie, churchians always double down, and churchians always project.

Blogger Dark Herald October 25, 2019 7:28 AM

A certain degree of using church authority to enforce societal norms has always been with us in form or another and varying wildly from location to location.

Filipinos have some of the oddest ones out there that I am personally acquainted.

Most of that is reasonably harmless until you reach a point where sin is being redefined to be in accordance with middle class norms.

Thirty years ago, when I was an Episcopal, a black family showed up at our cathedral for the first time.

A very old lady, politely told them this probably wasn't the place for them.

Rather than apologize to the family in private, then have a quiet word with "sister Bertha Betterthanyou" (and she absolutely was one of those), the bishop treated himself to the high drama of re-consecrating the cathedral, because it had been desecrated by the "sin of Racism."

I drove past it not too long ago. It has a rainbow flag out front now. I don't know if the Episcopals have actually edited Leviticus yet, but you know it's coming.

Wolfman's video in comments can be inspirational; but when a population movement provoking crusade against Muslims as just one of the enemies of God is invoked, and NO SINGLE MENTION is made of those God spoke most harshly of, ie: the pharisees, as the progenitors of the Talmud to which Synagogues of today adhere; then I smell a rat.

"Christianity isn't etiquette!" - absolutely love it and will lead one of my future posts in DaLimbrawLibrary.
Getting down to cases - most church goers of most denominations NEVER read the Bible - that is how you avoid being convicted by the word of God.
If you do read it, consider it your 'devotion', a duty to build your own piety - you're reading words without their meaning.
As I just commented yesterday here at VP, many can look - but few can SEE!
This author wrote a good piece almost two years which I archived - https://crushlimbraw.blogspot.com/2017/12/read-gospels-to-discover-jesus-nobody.html?m=0 - read the gospels to discover Jesus.
I personally just finished all 4 a few days ago and am now into Paul's 'adventures' in Acts - I am seeing stuff I never saw before - "seek and ye shall find" - maybe?
No, I am NOT some spiritualist - can't stand DaBastahds - my whole purpose on the net is to fight Churchianity and its inherent neutering of Christianity. That is exactly how you destroy Western Civilization as we all know here by now.
Also, just yesterday, Gary DeMar addressed the fundamental systemic problem of American churches which I archived in the library - the churches voluntarily separated themselves from the culture and guess WTF happened to America? And DaChurches? Churchian humanists!
Another revelation that finally came through my thick noggin after reading and rereading the gospels - I now know who DaSynagogue of Satan is!
I could go on and on, but read it yourself!

Blogger PastyWhiteBoy October 25, 2019 11:28 AM

This post hits home with something i have struggled understanding. If current churchianity is how Christians behaved during the Roman empire there is no way Christianity would have taken hold in Europe. They must have behaved much differently. I just do not see being meek ruling and winning over barbarians and pagans of that era.

This ties into the modern idea that Christian morality is chivalrous morality. Which is so far from the truth it's insane. Christian morality has more in common with Republican Roman morality than Middle Ages courtley love.

Blogger plishman October 25, 2019 12:06 PM

One doesn't hear Christian argument often these days, but you know it when you do: It is a joy to those who love God, but elicits outbursts of invective (sometimes unaccustomed) from those who do not. But while the latter reject it, they cannot fault it.

The problem being addressed here comes from the habits of thought that stem from postmodernism, in particular nihilism - the idea that the only thing knowable is that nothing is knowable. It is self contradictory, but it forms the basis of modern attempts at justice - that to prefer the good (as revealed by Christ, the Bible, time and custom) over evil is 'discrimination' and therefore must be rejected. Because one cannot discern one from the other, because nothing is knowable.

It is easier to destroy than to create, therefore when one acts indiscriminately - ie, without discrimination - on balance disorder will increase. This experiment has now been run.

The faculty of discrimination is the primary survival capability of the human creature - without it all we are is rather weak animals, with soft, squashy and hairless bodies, and feet that cannot walk on rough ground, and a propensity to fight one another and go where pain pushes us.

It is therefore no surprise that the enemy who wants to destroy us should first try to disable this critical faculty.

When practiced in a Christian sense, the faculty of discrimination is called discernment. And uncatechized, without the benefit of a widespread knowledge of Canon law, we have as Christians lacked critical discernment since the generation after the one which allowed the problem to occur.

So if you want something to pray for, pray as Solomon did, for the restoration of Christian discernment - so that we can again know the difference between good and evil.

Blogger Oswald October 25, 2019 12:07 PM

Beginning in the postmodern period, the Church establishment including the seminaries became infected with extremely leftist theologians. They preached bizarre ideas like looking for the historical Jesus (see the Jesus Seminar) which attempts to strike out passages of the Bible (just like Thomas Jefferson did with his deist "Bible"). Others claimed a far greater amount was metaphorical. Others denied the virgin birth and felt Jesus was only the Son of Man (not the sole incarnated Son of YHWH). Some claimed Jesus was a supreme spiritual teacher ie like a bodhisatva in Buddhism.

But then it erodes to far more heinous ideas like Liberation Theology, Prosperity Gospel, embraced paraphilias that the DSM had formerly called mental illness, disavowed demonic possession and equated that to mental illness (Jesus becomes the first shrink), etc.

A strict interpretation of the KJV Bible would make devout extremely intolerant to the point of benign bigotry. You see, the New Testament totally disavows a Judeo-Christian model. There is no tolerance whatsoever in 1 John 2 and in Revelation 3. Even Jesus despises rabbinic teaching which subverts the Torah and Prophets.

Does anyone know anything about this Ravi Zacharias character? I visited relatives who seem to passively consume a mainstream Christian channel. As a rule I distrust all televangelists, but he seemed doctrinally sound for most of the time up until the very end when he started talking about the concept of God being infinite and yet becoming singular simultaneously when manifesting as Christ— and then brazenly conflated it with the American Union concept “E Pluribus Unum” and appeared to be sneaking in a very subtle Diversity & Inclusion concept without ever having to use the words. Then the other day I happen to see him pop up as a guest speaker on the Rubin Report and my suspicion of him increased tenfold. Who is this fellow?

The Victorian era may have been "polite", but they would certainly feel obligated to express their disgust and contempt for the modern churchians' lack of discipline and integrity, as well as their complete unwillingness to stand up for anything not pre-approved by our "elites". Their toddler-like aversion to any sort of confrontation would be considered a humiliating self-debasement in any era, really.

Usually the variant of this that I hear is some sappy thing about loving everyone. Here's the thing - loving a person means, first and foremost, desiring their salvation, which means either working for someone's conversion if they aren't Christian, or working to turn them from doing evil that will keep them out of heaven if they are Christian.

Satan's strategy toward men is to either keep them from becoming Christian if they're not already, or to keep them from repenting of sins if they already are. The churchian mindset neither wants to convert non-Christians nor to turn Christians from their sins, which means that they are on the side of the devil, no matter how much they try and hide it with sweet sounding words.

I have heard the studies that there are less men going to church and I wouldn't be surprised but that's not really my experience. I think the feminizing comes from the "worship" music, at least in the more conservative churches. There are lots of women involved in worship and they usually like the commercial "christian" music that is produced for middle aged, married, theologically illiterate women to listen to on the radio.

They probably are gay. Ever since bridal mysticism observed by Leon J Podles in "church impotent" came into being.

Read "church impotent" ever since 12th century Bernard of Clairvoix advocated that Christians treat Jesus erotically as Husband.

And from there the ideal Christian is a woman having an rapturous love affair with Jesus.

Courtly love celebrated adultery and cuckoldry as well as inversion. Where man submits to Lady rather than woman submitting to her Lord

If anyone EVER says that the Bible preaches tolerance, they are liars. It's extremely intolerant. What leftists do is since they almost always are atheists, they will cherry-pick passages out of context. They will tell egregious falsehoods and claim early Christianity was socialist...which is balderdash.

Any honest student of the Bible will point out that the whole of it begins with exclusivity but becomes increasing inclusive BUT only among fellpw devout righteous believers (truly bondservants to Christ). Otherwise Christianity has the goal of 100% conversion but stressing free will. One willingly converts from the "natural man" into the devout Christian.

There is zero weakness in this. Even Moses, who is described initially as mild mannered, ends up annihilating an Egyptian who was harming a fellow Israelite.

To be a weak man is condemned as "wicked" and or unrighteous in 1 Corinthians 6. Tolerance would be considered weak or effeminate.

Kindness and benevolence are what Jesus stresses, not weakness.

Praying for them at death row and giving them the gospel in death row are acts of love that churchaians dont understand.

In times past the cross was held up before the soon to be executed so that Jesus was the last thing he saw.

Discriminate is the word for comparing and contrasting different things - decide between what is good & what is bad. It's what THINKING is used for - but it was outlawed when affirmative action became the law. The most important freedom is to be able to avoid people that are hateful, pernicious and useless - and that's also the only way they'll ever learn to not suk so much.

Yep, my Dentist moved to Gainesville. Tell me about Elachee Nature Center. Flowery Branch vs North of Gainesville. A god fearing church with a solid mens group.

"Middle Class Christianity" is such a bore. Its like there is no true life there. Only a false "pleasantville" experience.

Rather than the spiritual war in real life and an Eternal Life filled with all sorts of adventure.

Sitting among the clouds strumming harps? Bullshit. Not only ruling and reigning it would be far more exciting than the best adventures earth has to offer.

Wrong. Moses was not soft. He was a Prince of Egypt. Moses was the meekest man on earth. Meekness means power under control.

Leftist Christians destroyed mainline denominations by evangelizing their heresies so long that decades later, their numbers have been halved.

Now leftist Christians are flocking to megachurches like Hillsong to do the same.

What did John the Baptist say, " He (Jesus) must increase and I must decrease. Christianity about servanthood not spreading one's personal ideas to transform it. The latter is pride which is the beginning of sin. Social justice, homosexuality (totally condemned in Romans 1), feminism, these three are the evil prideful triad which destroy churches.

Re 93.
1 And Miriam and Aaron spake

Ethiopian woman whom he had married: for he had married an Ethiopian woman. 2 And they said, Hath the LORD indeed spoken only by Moses? hath he not spoken also by us? And the LORD heard it. 3 (Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the Earth.
Numbers 12:1-3.

The Hebrew word is anah meaning so meek or humble as to be saintly. Contrast that with his temper when released.
