Fake impeachment proceedings

I was wondering why all the sound and fury about impeachment didn't seem to show any signs of leading to an actual vote on an impeachment inquiry. It's because all the activity is just kabuki meant to stir up excitement and distract the electorate, not actually investigate anything concerning Ukraine.
It's quite obvious what the Democrats are doing. They have not had a vote on the floor of the House to start a formal impeachment inquiry because if they were to have such a vote, under the House rules for impeachment, the Republicans would get subpoena power.

In order to avoid giving the Republicans subpoena power, they are doing impeachment lite with these six different committees who are claiming it's an impeachment inquiry, and they are trying to subpoena people and get documents without having an impeachment vote on the floor. That is why the White House said we are not going to cooperate with this kangaroo court.
The reason they don't dare give Republicans subpoena power is that the corruption of the Obama administration, particularly that which surrounded the then-Vice President and then-Secretary of State would be exposed and placed on the record.

Of course, Captain Underoos doesn't get it, and with his impeccable sense of timing, has concluded that his big moment has finally arrived at last. At this point, I think we can all agree that despite his copious flaws, the stoner-in-chief Obama actually proved to be a less horrific president than either McCain or Romney would have been.

Romney's not stupid. He knows exactly what's going on. He just thinks he can exploit the moment for his own benefit, truth, loyalty, party and America be damned.

At this point, I think we can all agree that despite his copious flaws, the stoner-in-chief Obama actually proved to be a less horrific president than either McCain or Romney would have been.
Unquestionably.

Blogger Lazarus October 05, 2019 5:31 PM

DIGENOVA: Exactly. This is basically a coup in the form of an informal impeachment inquiry. This is extra-constitutional as well as unconstitutional.

Dubya was right. Its just a bleeping piece of paper.

When do the military tribunals start?

Blogger Shimshon October 05, 2019 5:34 PM

I was not unhappy when John "Bomb Bomb Bomb Iran" McCain lost to Obama. I didn't even have mixed feelings. Also, at least, for a few minutes, before the blades were extended again, the left acted almost normal after he won. That was worth something. And it didn't take hindsight to know that the stoner would be better than the one who wanted to nuke the world back to the stone age.

I sometimes wonder what a real Obama presidency would have been like. As it was he was barely worth more to the Globalists alive than dead. If he strayed from the party line at all they would have had some redneck patsy turn him into a martyr.

He was little more than a house slave with Hillary acting as overseer. How humiliating.

No wonder he preferred to spend his time golfing.

Blogger Dole October 05, 2019 6:05 PM

Mitt Romney is exactly the type of conservative who will not ever get tired of losing. One more loss granted for him I guess. All Trump needs to do is call him a racist and he will not be able to conserve his pants.

Blogger Salt October 05, 2019 6:10 PM

If the US is going to break up Romney might be perfect. He does have experience as a corporate raider.

Blogger KPKinSunnyPhiladelphia October 05, 2019 6:13 PM

Though it's certainly possible, it's hard to determine if Romney/McCain would have been worse then the GloboHomo -- counterfactuals are slippery things.

But there's been one obvious benefit to the Kenyan's reign -- he is directly responsible for severely, if not permanently, damaging the Democrat party. The party rode his charisma for 8 years, leaving no one of any political talents to take his place. Trump haters deride the GE as a man of a "personality cult" but no one can compare with Hussein on that score. It's Trump who is true policy genius, not BO for all his putative wonkiness.

Meanwhile, I know many on here, including our estimable blog proprietor, pooh-pooh Scott Adams, but yesterday he noted how the GE was at first falling into defensive mode on this impeachment thingy, but has since turned around and is now going on the offensive -- for example, saying China should investigate (not gonna happen, but let's throw them into the mix) and calling Biden "Quid Pro Joe."

(Aside: Adams had an interesting take on the "we have to eat the babies" troll).

It must have been somewhat deflating to the GE that, post Mueller, they are coming after him again. But now he knows that it's not just SJWs that double down, but the Democratic leadership. It's all about damaging the GE in an effort to make him seem "unelectable."

He knows it's truly war now, and I pity the poor Dems, I really do. There will not be enough popcorn.

Blogger andrisf October 05, 2019 6:19 PM

I disagree, i think it is very obvious that it matters almost not at all who is the president as far as the actual tangible actions go.
Longer Trump is in power and does nothing to drain the swamp, build the wall, etc, more it becomes obvious that he is just a lightning rod for all sorts of patriots, who can take their MAGA hat, go to rallies, cheer, feel emotionally uplifted, savor Trumps rhetoric, meanwhile train is approaching no return point and cliff is not far away.
At this point it does not matter at all who sits in oval office and i think last president who actually mattered, who ACTUALLY wanted to do something was the one they shot in Dallas.

Blogger Damelon Brinn October 05, 2019 6:22 PM

Yep. After three years of preparation, the entire Democrat platform is now "Impeach!" and "Eat The Babies!" If they give up on impeachment, their SJW base will have a massive hissy fit and stay home crying on election day. But they can't afford to actually go for it either. All they can do is try to keep that carrot hanging out there, the same way they did with Mueller Time.

The Democrat's predicament is worse than Republican subpoena powers. Trump will defend himself be releasing declassified info. *TIT* for tat.

But the Democrats still need an ongoing investigation, so that they can claim "Obstruction of Justice" when Trump starts the rollout. I would guess that's why Mittens is running.

Blogger Unknownsailor October 05, 2019 6:49 PM

Obama was far more damaging than his own personal policies, it was all the radical activists he hired to government positions that did (and still do) most of the damage.

I will give Obama this: His two terms gave the far left the impression that they were finally triumphant, that they would have the reigns of power Forever.™ When Trump won, those sorts of people broke their brains forever. They have only gotten ever more nutso as time has elapsed. No one sane can say that the sheer lunacy of the far left is right out in the open now. Presidential candidates openly saying they want to confiscate guns, and doubling down when directly questioned on it? Totally batshit crazy.

Rich kids of powerful pols really haven't amounted to much in the last few decades. The Kennedys are a joke, Gore? please, Romney... I can't think of one kid of a rich pol that is as good as the father-- certainly not Biden. I wouldn't limit it to politicians, as too many rich kids screwed around way too much when they were young to really set themselves up on a path to greatness-- some things can't be recovered once you left them. But there are a few who made out alright. Trumps kids don't seem to have fallen to the spoiled kid disease.

I can't remember which military philosopher it was who wrote on this subject (von Clausewitz?), but he divided officers into four categories

The smart and hard-working: Make them staff offices -- they will work into the wee hours of the morning getting all the details of a plan worked out

The smart and lazy -- make them unit commanders. They won't over-burden the troops with unnecessary tasks

The dumb and lazy -- give them unimportant projects. If something useful results, be grateful.

The dumb and industrious -- They have only one purpose -- rear guard actions to save the rest of your army. Any other use is dangerous.

Around 11 September 1683, the Battle of Vienna was fought with Europe hanging in the balance of the outcome between the invading Ottomans and the forces of the West. Led by Polish general Sobieski, the Poles, Lithuanians, Holy Roman Empire and the Hungarians banded together.
Louis the 14th and the French said they were busy washing their hair and couldn't help defend Europe. But after Sobieski was victorious, France decided they had free time after all, and attacked the now-weakened Holy Roman Empire.
That's Romney. Romney is France.

I will hand it to him however, the man does know how to pull off a good act. He has the masses convinced he's the paragon of piousness and moral rectitude but scratch the surface and you will find a long and sordid history of greasiness and corruption. Ahhh...now we're talking. Thats something I could really get behind. If all of the state universities and Dartmouth college were to close tomorrow - along with Dartmouth Hitchcock Hospital - NH would revert back to hard right overnight. As for Maine - splinter off York and southern Cumberland County and the rest of the state is predominately hard right as well. The wild card is the "county" - Aroostock County . Its literally another country within that state...more like Canada than the US. A heavy populist streak runs through there..leaning more left than right but grounded in reality due to the closeness of the people to the land.

I think the late comedian Bill Hicks was onto something. He posited that, whenever a new president is elected, he gets a secret visit prior to inauguration day by an emissary or two of the Powers That Be. At this meeting, the president-elect is shown a film 99.9% of people will never see: a film of JFK's murder that is much clearer than the Zapruder film, and which makes it clear there was more than one shooter. And the president-elect is then instructed, "Now do as you're told and you'll get to remain president. If not, well...."

Legislative committees are not in the Constitution. Political parties are not in the Constitution. There is no Constitutional impeachment proceeding until the full House has voted to initiate one; by itself, a partisan committee has exactly zero impeachment authority, because nonesuch was properly granted to it by the People's chosen representatives.

"No. President Kratman will never drive out the invader. His own marriage prevents him even contemplating the idea."

You could not be more wrong. You could try asking TK about it. No one has any serious problems with American men marrying foreign wives vis a vis immigration. The numbers are too small to be significant (although TGE is doing yeoman's work there) and there is a real assimilationist factor, both cultural and genetic (doubly so culturally for milotary wives).

The blog comments are poorer for TK's abscence but at least most of the virtue-signalling morons whose idiocy caused him to quit wasting his time have disappeared.

I have myself advanced all of the same arguments as TK did re: immigration in these comments without any push back from the usual suspects. One must suspect they were just hoping for attention during a debate between Vox and TK over the constitutional meaning of posterity.

I don't think most people realize that TK means exactly what he says when he describes draconian measures to save America from what he terms "Tranzies". He would do quite well and, if TGE is not successful, what comes after will resemble the Kratman solution at some point. The left will never leave its host so it will be removed or killed. Wild cards being places like Mexifornia that are already, in effect, foreign countries.

Trump's political left flank is anchored solidly, he's running the old Bonaparte-Bismark playbook of a protectionist (relatively) trade policy and a conservative social policy. You can't GET at his left flank without going off the rails.

A Hard Nosed Rightist like me? That would be very, very different. Trump's right flank is wide open. But winning the general election at this time would be hard.

Mr. Romney is out of touch. It is beyond me how someone with so many resources can be this way AT FIRST GLANCE.

If I recall, St. John-John was far from the brightest bulb(passed the bar examine on the fifth try supposedly), which would have made him as good a tool as Obama. At this point the dems hope Romney will blow more smoke to obscure their cupidity and help them steal a few more seats from cooperative "conservatives" this next election. Every chance they'll even have a stooge or two cross the aisle. The presidency is out of their reach and even the crazy fringe candidates are running to build recognition and maybe cash in on unspent campaign contributions if they are lucky.

Romney is a Mitt... (adapted from the movie Iron Cross)I always thought that Romney was part of a cabal/conspiracy to keep Obama in power for another four years. He is did nothing from that time to make me think any differently.

Sorry meant the movie Cross of Iron, not Iron Cross.
