Fake News is very, very fake
In fact, it's considerably more fake than even the average skeptic imagines:
I didn’t have any experience as a war reporter. Then I arrived in Baghdad. I was fairly quickly sent along in a bus by the Iraqi army, the bus was full of loud, experienced war reporters, from such prestigious media as the BBC, several foreign TV-stations and newspapers, and me, poor newbie, who was sent to the front for the first time without any kind of preparation. The first thing I saw was that they all carried along cans of petrol. And I at once got bad consciousness, because I thought: «oops, if the bus gets stuck far from a petrol station, then everyone chips in with a bit of diesel’. I decided to in the future also carry a can before I went anywhere, because it obviously was part of it.It's entirely obvious that the world is very different than we were taught to believe, and is actually very different than even the cynical and the skeptical observe it to be.
We drove for hours through the desert, towards the Iraqi border. Approx. 20-30 kilometers from the border, there really was nothing. First of all no war. There were armored vehicles and tanks, burned-out long ago. The journalist left the bus, splashed the contents of the cans on the vehicles. We had Iraqi soldiers with us as an escort, with machine guns, in uniform. You have to imagine: tanks in a desert, burned out long ago, now put on fire. Clouds of smoke. And there the journalists assemble their cameras.
It was my first experience with media, truth in reporting.
While I was wondering what the hell I was going to report for my newspaper, they all lined up and started: Behind them were flames and plumes of smoke, and all the time the Iraqis were running in front of camera with their machine guns, casually, but with war in their gaze. And the reporters were ducking all the time while talking.
So I gathered courage and asked one of the reporters: ‘I understand one thing, they are great pictures, but why are they ducking all the time? ‘
‘Quite simply because there are machine guns on the audio track, and it looks very good at home.’
That was several decades ago. It was in the beginning of my contact with war. I was thinking, the whole way back:’Young man, you didn’t see a war. You were in a place with a campfire. What are you going to tell?’

If you let reporters near a real battle, they'll get themselves killed, and you'll get blamed for their deaths. So let them report fake battles to CYA.
And rumors of wars.
I guess Galloway's Bronze Star is the only one the Army plans on giving.
"describing how the journalistic profession is thoroughly corrupt and infiltrated by intelligence services."
I'm registering less than zero surprise here. No one else can have intelligence products without reliable information inputs. Fabricate the inputs and you control the conclusions produced. Do this long enough and receiving the full truth in an area gives such a disconnection shock that most people will assume they've stepped into the work of a madman or compulsive liar rather than out from in front of the glamer screen.

It's been a stage for a very, very long time:

Eason Jordan flat out admitted to sitting on Iraqi atrocities in the 1990s, he wrote an op-ed in the New York Times (where else) about it.
https://www.nytimes.com/2003/04/11/opinion/the-news-we-kept-to-ourselves.html
It is still up.
The media have been whores for a very long time.
@7: If CNN is known to lie today how much trust can we put in what he wrote in 2003?
Her is an archive.is link: https://archive.is/F1KLU
Apart from Oman, many others have bought me. They also bought colleagues. I got many invitations through the travel section in my big newspaper. 5-star. The reportage never mentioned that I was bought, by country A or B or C. Yemenia, the Yemeni state airline, invited me to such a trip.
I'm confused. Did he receive invitations from state actors abroad who read his paper's travel section? Did state actors abroad place ads for airlines and destinations that were also used to advertise to journalists? Or was the travel section used as a communication board?
He got invitations because of the travel section, specifically for what various agents wanted to appear in it.
They'd probably pay for his tickets, hotels, meals, entertainment, booked in advance where they wanted him to go then contacted him with the hook for it all. They wanted their locale to appear a certain way in the travel section, so they'd set up railroad tracks to show him exactly what they wanted everyone to read about.
@7 Why should I give a crap about what Saddam was doing in Iraq in the 90s anymore than I give a crap about what Turkey is doing in Syria now. That's neocon junk or "muh Eyeraq".
So, news is mostly advertisements, if you think about it. Just a lot of them outside of the advertisement section.
You might think that you pay for reliable information, but they're taking money both going and coming to feed you what someone else wants you to consume.
Baghdad Bob is blushing.
Moths to a flame. Anything they can get away with, they will do.
Thanks @Azure. Put the way you put it, it sounds plausible when read against his description of car testing. It almost sounds like if a journo wanted to visit a place they'd write a short article about it, like a proposition paper of sorts. Perhaps even an article by an intelligence agency under their byline could be written for the same effect. Payola!
So, news is mostly advertisements, if you think about it. Just a lot of them outside of the advertisement section.
Ad revenue being down suddenly means a lot more after this thread.
This ABC News thing with the Kentucky firing range simulating the War in Syria... It really makes you wonder just how much of what we accept as historical fact was complete fiction in the era before social media personalities could fact check the media.
"It really makes you wonder just how much of what we accept as historical fact was complete fiction in the era before social media personalities could fact check the media."
Lugenpresse is now defined as a Nazi slur. What does it mean? "Press of Lies".
"social media personalities"
That get popular by being favorably sorted by hidden algorithms.
Platform, platform, who's got the platform?
The only good war reporter I've seen is Patrick Lancaster on YouTube repoting on the Ukraine war. You can tell by the fear in his eyes that the artillery is real.
The amount of disinformation and lies I have kicking around in my head staggers me sometimes, when I see it with a little bit more clarity. Pretty much all the things I think I know eventually turn out to be BS as soon as I look at them remotely closely.

You beat me to it. These people are nothing but craven rats, devoid of human souls.
Lugenpresse is now defined as a Nazi slur. What does it mean? "Press of Lies".
It means they were pretty accurate. Oh, and the Holyhoax is just that!
This sort of thing always reminds me of an episode of the Wire, where a newspaper photographer always turns in aftermath pics of structure fires with burnt doll heads in the foreground. One of the reporters says, "I swear, he's got a trunk full of those things."
Assuming authorities would let them, reporters in real combat zones would be crouching balls or puking their guts out from the smell.
@18- The "lying press" thing predates Nazis. Pretty sure it was in use during the revolutions of '48. But like the Chaplin-stache and hooked crosses, it belongs to them now.
No it sure how it is we decide what has and hasn't been forever Nazified. Some things go back and forth, like Nietzche.
Everything we know about Nazis comes from the same people who are lying to us now.
They best stop lying.
It's much easier to believe this account than to buy into the fairytale that journalists are putting their lives at risk to bring us the truth.
Anybody remember the car alarms on the rooftop video?
Does not turn up on YT searches any more though.
This is likely your most important post ever.
God Save The Honorable!
@30
Car alarms on rooftop? Please elaborate - I've not heard of this before, but it sounds like I should learn about it.
"No it sure how it is we decide what has and hasn't been forever Nazified. Some things go back and forth, like Nietzche."
Two way game. Losers of a war? Dehumanized as the bad guys even though both sides sucked. Easy to demonize. Easy to then attribute any inconvenient concepts to those demonized in order to play the ad-hominem rhetoric game, portraying the concepts as illegitimate.

Since the "god" most of them serve is also known as the 'father of lies', don't hold your breath. Remember the phrase about how they cry out in pain as they strike you? That's how ingrained the lying is. They lie more easily than they breathe air. Not just the hats, either. The entire clown apparat - from Hi-Fellatin' Franny to the Bush and Clinton crime families to your local Chamber of Commerce cuck. May the great unveiling proceed and gather inexorable power.
Baghdad Bob is blushing.
He was an honest man compared to CNN et al. He lied and he knew that everyone knew he was lying but soldiered on despite the intrusion of reality because he had his orders. An amateur clown to be sure, but lacking the Satanic evil of the professional liars.
Thanks for sharing this Vox. I have some web marketing talents that I have used to advance worthy causes. However, I was letting following the news distract me from putting my shoulder to the wheel to the degree I would prefer to do and honing my craft further. Your blog post convinced to stop following the news and instead just pay attention to important trends, etc. I will be far more productive this way.

I always knew there was something wrong with the media. I remember being a pre-teen watching the nightly news during the Vietnam Police Action. I'm not sure which day of the week it was, I think on Friday, when the nightly news would show the body counts, US and enemy killed. They would say things like '5,000 enemy were killed this week while US casualties were 274'. Even as a little kid, I was good at math. I remember thinking, 'If we're killing 5-10,000 enemy a week and only lose 500 or less, this war should be over'. Even though I didn't know the word 'attrition', I understood its concept.
Now fast forward to when I finally gave up on the media: The Jayson Blair Scandal at the New York Times (The Old Grey Whore). I read the Sunday edition back in 2003 with the four full pages which listed all the 'corrections' to Blair's 'reporting'. Articles like the Jessica Lynch one were telling; Jessica Lynch was a soldier whose convoy 'got lost' and she was captured then quickly rescued. Blair supposedly visited her parents' home in West Virginia writing that you could see the tobacco fields from the front porch of their house. Now anyone who knows VA/WV knows there are no tobacco 'fields' in West Virginia due to the mountainous nature of the land; tobacco does grow, or rather was grown, in the eastern part of Virginia. But Virginia, West Virginia, what difference does it make? Rednecks are rednecks. As it turned out, Blair never even visited the Lynch's, making up the story out of whole cloth full of ideological bias.
The author Michael Crichton nailed it with this quote:
"Briefly stated, the Gell-Mann Amnesia effect is as follows. You open the newspaper to an article on some subject you know well. In Murray's case, physics. In mine, show business. You read the article and see the journalist has absolutely no understanding of either the facts or the issues. Often, the article is so wrong it actually presents the story backward—reversing cause and effect. I call these the 'wet streets cause rain' stories. Paper's full of them.
In any case, you read with exasperation or amusement the multiple errors in a story, and then turn the page to national or international affairs, and read as if the rest of the newspaper was somehow more accurate about Palestine than the baloney you just read. You turn the page, and forget what you know."
Fake news has been around since the first papyrus newspaper. But at one point, before the internet and the ability to really investigate reporting, what passed for 'integrity' and 'facts' were accepted and journalists held in high esteem and in good standing as professionals.
Well, urinalism is a profession, in fact, the second oldest one. And it pays better, too.

Learn languages.
IE Russians published very open books on WWII (Suvorov, Solonin) or Uni of TelAviv hosts quite interesting materials on Holo (dr Ewa Kurek). German historians are all Marxists, but they do not publish outright lies. Half-truths yes, lies no.

I have a relative who says that when a high end house is being shown by realtors, they hire home staging companies to come in and make the house look as though someone lives there.
That comment last week about life is painful, the narrative eases the pain; is starting to have broader meaning. Not just the usual tenets about equality, but new ones as needed. I guess there's a big market for lies. And here I thought real benefits should be pitched, but hey, go for comfort. Rhetoric vs dialectic. Maybe I'll catch on.
There is a verse in Isaiah 28:15
Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:
F*k*d News. Because whether you call it Fucked or Faked, the motivation of these liars-for-hire to pervert our perception of reality is nothing but obscene.
I think the destruction of (e.g.) Sutton’s career is a fairly reliable indication that he said something true that contradicts the official history.
Personally, Trump has never appealed to me, but so what? I love him because of the forces arrayed against him, and their determination to destroy him is a key measure of his divergence from the Narrative.
Devon Stack has an excellent video that touches on this very topic.

Of course. They've got you the best when they've figured out the lies you think you want to hear, and are able to tell them to you. Once you buy what you want to hear for yourself, you have no place to stand to be able to tell what else they're lying about. You're up to your neck in swamp and the mud sticks tight.

Man's script is riddled w the weaknesses of being easily fooled easily frightened and easily steered to follow a false savior. Those that wish to take advantage of these weaknesses worm their way in and provide the stimulus directed at us. While modern times exhibit a nasty dose of manipulation it's been going on AT LEAST since Chief Big Stuff used closely held knowledge to verify his dominant position buy using info that the masses didn't have to prey on their weaknesses. For instance, knowledge of eclipses comes to mind.
They'll always be the nasty types who prey on the weakness of others. It sucks but it is just a fact. Perhaps we are best served by recognizing our own weaknesses and being ever vigilant. Seizing your own power so to speak.
A current ruse we should keep our eye on involves the financial masters (fed/bis). They purposefully contracted the money supply starting in 2017. They eased up recently but can pull the plug at any time now. Most people think market crashes are organic. They are not. China trade is being used to distract.
Will we be easily fooled again ?
They will try to blame it on DJT.
Will the masses take the bait ?

Well, well, well. Looks like it's even worse than I thunk!
My first exposure to this was at a Uni in Johannesburg in the late 80s/early 90s. There was a black Geography lecturer (a rarity even then), who was interviewed over the phone by the BBC. The journalist asked him if he could add some crackling sounds to the background 'so that it would sound dry, like in Africa'.
This was after I saw how the violence in demonstrations only began once the foreign news crews got there (and after school was out for the day, so the kids could catch the tear gas and rubber bullets).
I've know about fake news for 3 decades.

So journos have views about Africa that leftists commonly assume us to have.
The sad thing is, Accra Ghana and Nairobi Kenya are probably more pleasant and better-run cities than Detroilet these days.
Taki covered the Yom Kippur war in 73 and he knew the Arab way of war coverage and that was it, so he begged his old Greek boss for a trip to Israel where he knew he could get a tour of the real Golan battlefield and more importantly meet a nice looking woman without having to pay, and he did on both accounts.
@Azure
I'm sure I've fallen for it at some point in my past, but I don't know which is worse . . .falling for it, or a light going off in my head with the idea that "Heyyyyy, I could sell lots of shit this way".
More of the same, but even sloppier: https://youtu.be/4Kopck2-FEk (the ABC news pretending Kentucky range is Syrian War story)
Remember when Geraldo Rivera was pretending to duck bullets in the Middle East years ago, when he was really hundreds of miles away from the shooting?
To the tune of "Everything is Awesome"
"Everything is fake news,
Everything is fake and its totally bunk,
Everything is fake news,
To support the party line."
Lying is baked into our society. so no wonder lying is everywhere and in everything. For a young person, it starts with the santa clause lie. It's the worst lie because it's the first lie. Sadly, the young just accept the concept of society-wide lying rather than come to the logical conclusion that, if santa clause is a lie, so are a lot of other things. Santa clause is not real; stop lying to your kids.
@30 and @33 Possibly this

@42 -- another example is high end apartment complexes which hire actors/actresses during open houses to help push rentals. I knew the rental agent for a mid-rise building that had a pool. When they did open houses, they hired attractive people to sit around the pool in bathing suits. This was to show potential renters that "these are the types of people who live here." A lie of course. But it worked and they did not have to pay much to the actors/actresses since they got to spend the day at a nice pool.
This sounds like a made-up story to me. Everything is believable except the part where each journalist has to carry a small can of diesel to help set the vehicles alight.
Why would this be the case? Why couldn't they just get the Iraqis to bring a barrel of diesel or cooking oil or really any flammable liquid with them? Where did they even get the cans from? It's not like they took them with them on the plane. This sounds like propaganda to me.
Calvin809 wrote:The only good war reporter I've seen is Patrick Lancaster on YouTube repoting on the Ukraine war. You can tell by the fear in his eyes that the artillery is real.
That's really odd. Because i work with a bunch of Ukrainians, and they are able to move freely through the country, yes, even including the Donbas, and yes, even the Russian Jew. Somehow they don't see artillery.
Very odd indeed.
@59
Tars, even if this particular story is false, we already have parallel confirmation of fake war footage from ABC's use of Knob Creek footage. But it would also explain why no one ever shoots the camera man/news crew sitting out in the open filming an active combat zone, even accidentally.
That said, if it is false, it is more harmful than helpful to promote it, as lies always come back on the liar eventually. But since the other journalists aren't exactly coming forward to out themselves, and any denial by them would be inherently suspect, we'll likely never know.
@44 Scuzzaman:
"I think the destruction of (e.g.) Sutton’s career is a fairly reliable indication that he said something true that contradicts the official history."
That does not logically follow, for Sutton's version only needs to be viewed as credible for it to threaten the official narrative.
I would say a truthful account would be more likely to seem credible, but here we are discussing an "incredible" account that we believe to be truthful only because we've seen the media lying literally for our entire lives, and realized that at some point.
@58
I've got some proposals out, but no actual work in the shop at the moment. So I could use a gig. But I don't think they'll hire me for the poolside bit. Unless . . .they're pushing the diversity left thing. "Who's that guy with the gray in his beard? OH wait, how sweet! They've invited the homeless in. I'm putting a deposit down right now!
Raker_T wrote:OH wait, how sweet! They've invited the homeless in. I'm putting a deposit down right now!
Said no woman ever. Though, as all the major West Coast cities now prove, Leftist women are always happy to virtue signal by letting the homeless camp on poor people's sidewalks.
And by "homeless", I of course mean "junkies"
@65 Snidely... Yeah, funny how they always frame homelessness as "housing" or "money" problems and almost never as the real cause, booze and drugs. If you gave them a million dollars each, all that would happen is a bunch of drug dealers would get rich.
And there's always the crazies, who often self-medicate.
"Said no woman ever". Rats, this means I don't get the job? Besides, I'd probably have to do the business on the sidewalk to pass the interview. And people say drug screening is tough.
Calvin809 wrote:The only good war reporter I've seen is Patrick Lancaster on YouTube repoting on the Ukraine war. You can tell by the fear in his eyes that the artillery is real.
Yes, and I can tell from his sincerity that Gary Oldman is actually Winston Churchill!
