Mailvox: atheist biology

Richard Dawkins's logic is not only flawed, but as Warkicker, an accomplished surgeon, notes, his grasp of animal and human biology is also nonexistent.

MORE ATHEIST LOGIC: You can trust atheists. Because evolutionary biologists don't understand how biological functions work.

What a curious argument Dawkins gives regarding the "poor design" of the recurrent laryngeal nerve. Is he not aware that the nerve does more than innervate the larynx? It gives branches to the cardiac plexus, esophagus and trachea in addition to the muscles of the larynx. Hence its circuitous route is necessary and not inefficient. I do thyroidectomies all the time and have to be careful not to injure any part of the nerve during the dissection, not just the branches that serve the larynx. Also, the superior laryngeal nerve does give a direct connection to the larynx, and complements the recurrent laryngeal nerve and provides redundancy in function, so a more direct pathway already exists.

There are unusual conditions in which either the right or left recurrent laryngeal nerves do not loop around in the chest but rather directly innervate the larynx. In such individuals, there is the potential for significant problems in swallowing and breathing. Ironically, if you subscribe to the evolutionary paradigm, such conditions may represent example of mutations that regularly occur but yet evolution "chooses" not to select out for the more direct route!

Additionally, the long route the recurrent laryngeal nerve takes into the thoracic cavity before looping back up to the neck may have saved the lives of many of my patients. They will present with hoarseness prompting me to look at their vocal cords. If I see paralysis of one of the vocal cords, I evaluate their chest and often with find a tumor in their mediastinum, usually early enough to still be treatable. Dr. Michael Egnor, a well-known neurosurgeon, has noticed and commented on this as well.

Evolutionary [profession] is a fancy way of saying they're a wanker that's useless to society.

What evolutionists mean by "bad design" can be more correctly reduced to 'I dont know how this system works".

Because they live in darkness the light of faith (truth) will never penetrate their feeble minds.

I find it ridiculous to think tarsals in humans could've come about by accident, to say nothing of the eyeball.

Atheists believe in the Theory Of Evolution. What actually happens during evolution they find icky.

Blogger Harambe November 07, 2019 9:11 AM

It reminds me of a thing I see with car culture bros a lot. They think rubber suspension bushings are "bad design", so they "upgrade" to the much stiffer polyurethane and now things that weren't meant to absorb that much extra vibration start breaking left and right.

Dawkins' grasp of evolutionary biology is on the level of bro-science is what I'm saying.

Blogger Barbarossa November 07, 2019 9:15 AM

@5 But, but...Black Science Guy who revered Carl Sagan so much that he decided not to attend Cornell showed us exactly how eyeballs come about during Cosmos II: A Waste of Time Odyssey. And it had really cool graphics, so it must be true.

Evolution has always been rooted in the universe having teleogy regardless of human interference. Edward Feser wrote a book pointing out how natural selection indeed depends on teleogy.

I had read more than once that laryngeal nerve loops the way it does for timing reasons and other reasons. In other words, it wouldn't work as a straight shot. This has been known for years. Dawkins knows, but at this point Evolution is looking more like a psyop than wishful thinking.

Blogger Stilicho November 07, 2019 9:59 AM

Dawkins' response: accomplished surgeons do not exist and I hate them.

Blogger Harambe November 07, 2019 10:05 AM

I don't understand how this sh!t works, therefore it's stupid.

Blogger MerrickWT November 07, 2019 10:31 AM

Also “bad design” as a criticism requires the paradigm assumption that the world we inhabit today exists as intended by God... which is a straw man argument because it ignores the fall.

Blogger spinoza November 07, 2019 10:48 AM

Ahiests don't give a fuck about the truth while pretending to know it. Sagan was evil but Dawkins is alive. Science is a mortal religion that creates truth and fiction paralleling mortality.

The Fall would account for things like diseases and pests, not for basic design flaws of the sort discussed here.

I went with a friend (Who was hoping for a chance to ask some pointed questions) to see Mr. Dawkins at a book signing, three or four years ago. My impression: old fool. This book signing was held at a unity church. (Obviously a bit to inclusive) I marveled the way his fans carried his book with them to the event. Reminded me of going to church and seeing the people carrying the bible with them.

Why should things like disease and pests be accounted for by the Fall, but not degradation from what may be supposed to have been original design, such as the straight-shot recurrent laryngeal nerves innervation of the larynx and the problems attendant to that?

Blogger Fuzzums Wuzzums November 07, 2019 11:46 AM

He sounds like he himself has strong ties with recurrent laryngeal nerves. Conflict of interest much?

But in all seriousness all surgeons have an "if it ain't broke don't fix it" mentality. They regularly have to deal with engineers and designers from big corporations who come up with revolutionary new ways of doing things. Their questions always stays the same: does it work? I even heard the phrase "did you learn that from a book?" be thrown around as an insult.

Blogger Nathan Hornok November 07, 2019 12:51 PM

This same fallacy happens over and over in biology. The evolutionist use their ignorance of why something is the way it is, as evidence that it is inefficient and therefore not designed by forethought. Since they view their ignorance as evidence, they have no motivation to fill their ignorance gap. Their actions end up being the opposite of the empirical gathering of observable phenomenon that science is supposed to be all about.

We saw this phenomenon happen with so called "junk DNA." Decades ago they proclaimed junk DNA as useless vestigial scraps of DNA, and therefore as evidence of common decent. It has taken decades for a small number of scientist to slowly discover the regulatory role this "extra" DNA plays. There are many other roles this DNA plays, but we are just scratching the surface. The progress in understanding what all this extra (non-coding) DNA does has been moving along at a snails pace in a large part because of these false premises of TEM.

Blogger weka November 07, 2019 1:14 PM

That is far too kind.

It's intellectual masturbation.
If they don't know why something is the way it is then it's proof of a flawed design therefore evolution.
If they can think of a reason as to why something is the way it is then it's proof that evolutionary biology is valid therefore evolution.

Blogger SirHamster November 07, 2019 2:53 PM

@VFM

Because life is self replicating and self modifying, have to distinguish between a flaw in original design from a flaw introduced by genetic corruption.

As well as critics lacking the chops to actually ID a design flaw.

I remember reading that giraffe thing from Dawkins (in one of his books) back when I was a libtard atheist! I remember thinking it made so much sense. Man was I dumb.

I've noticed a funny thing since waking up. I read lots of lefty books back then (ones on water, ones on the climate, ones on atheism, etc.), but I don't remember more than a handful of authour anecdotes from any of them. It's like they were all hamburgers from different McDonald's restaurants. I mean, I felt like I was consuming something, but they were all immediately forgettable, and mostly all of them were exactly the same. Also, they were poison.

My point is that the nerve wasn't a "bad design". It's the difference between a well-designed car that goes rusty and needs parts replaced, and a poorly-designed car. The world is fallen, yes, but God doesn't do poorly-designed.

I remember reading something similar to this in Jonathan Safarti's book, Evolution: The Greatest Hoax On Earth. He does a fine job of showing how bad Dawkins is at biology.

You had one job Richard. One job. And you couldn't even get that right.

Blogger papabear November 08, 2019 1:28 AM

I always thought it the height of hubris for human beings to think they knew something about inefficiency, bad designs, non-functional organs when they didn't even have the power to create something "better" from non-life.

He reduced Shermer to a quivering mass in short order. You're not a physicist, and you're a Christian, right were his first retorts to the evidence that the Universe has a preferred direction. Nice fallacies there, bruh.
