Pure inversion

Gay Republican Pirate edition:
Dan Crenshaw@DanCrenshawTX
In 2020, remember this:

Republicans are the party of Uber.

Democrats are the party of taxi cab unions.

Own your own labor, work where you want and how you want, and embrace innovation. That’s conservatism.
So to conserve is to change? Allowing millions of foreigners to invade, to work where they want and to work how they want is conserving the nation and the society? This is 100-percent inversion. And where you see inversion, you can be certain there is pure sulfur underlying it.

UPDATE: Speaking of inversion, a neoclown is now selling tolerant liberal conservatism.
Eric Weinstein@EricRWeinstein
Don’t get sold the narrative that Trump now owns ALL US Conservatism. He does own a good chunk of it. But there‘s also a new strain of tolerant conservatism that‘s very liberal: relentlessly civil, anti-inequality, pro-logic, pro-gay, pro-weed, pro-free speech & multicultural.
President Trump doesn't own conservatism. Conservatism is dead. And America will eventually be much the better for its passing.

I sure wish we could have the 'da rasis' immigration policy of Mexico. They deported about 300 Indian nationals last month and the ass Jorge Ramos was not around to decry how racist it all is for these people who only wanted a better opportunity in Mexico of all places.

Also, if the GRP was honest, he would have pointed out that the moment the Taxi Union brings forward it's Spokesperson of Color who calls the Republicans "Racist" for not supporting all the Pakistani Taxi drivers, the Republicans will promptly outlaw Uber, give government subsidies to the Taxi Union, and while they are at it, pass some vaping restrictions to keep the Bible-belt Boomers distracted.

If one digs beneath Charlie Kirk, Shapiro, and other libertarian types far enough, then one reaches the penultimate root: the Ayn Rand Institute. Its policy positions from, say, 2009 are those of the Cato Institute and the Never Trump wing of the GOP in 2019. The ultimate root was identified by Vox in this post.

Yes, the GOP Never Trumpers' economic and social positions come from its major donors. But their views are backstopped by Cato Institute papers. And the "moral" basis of those is the political philosophy of the Ayn Rand Institute. Note that John Allison, CEO and president of Cato until 2015, is an Objectivist activist.

Carl Barney is on the Cato board and was on the ARI board and probably ARI's biggest donor. Following revelations that he allegedly made most of his money in the Scientology racket, he resigned from the ARI board, but not from Cato. Anyone interested can search for "ARI Watch" and read about that inside baseball.

Until the "penultimate" root of Charlie Kirkism, the ARI, is challenged, the Never Trump GOP will keep pushing "muh GDP," wars for Israel, immigration amnesty or even full-on open borders, and the "freedom" of degeneracy, all in the name of "the moral revolution of capitalism." This nonsense must be completely rooted out.

Dan Crenshaw has obviously never worked for Uber. It's a rare driver who doesn't absolutely despise that company. They feel like they are under its yoke, not like they are free.

For a "capitalist" concern, Uber has very little capital sunk into product or operations. The drivers own the cars (or more like their banks), pay the insurance, fuel, maintenance. All Uber does is run a rather milquetoast app and use their giant pile angel investor money to start price wars with Lyft. That has a serious negative effect on profit-per-mile for the drivers, who are measuring it in pennies these days. Uber's never made a profit. It likely never will. And it's now a below minimum wage gig in most places when you factor in costs-per-mile for drivers.

Crenshaw's a typical moron who speaks without experience or knowledge.

Conservatism is mired in the fallacy that social issues are based entirely on economics. That in itself is essentially a Marxist outlook. But it also creates an enormous blind spot about the importance of culture and personal identity within society. After the overthrow of the USSR, the left moved beyond Marx and fully embraced Gramsci, the Frankfurt School, and Alinksy. Ever since, they've accelerated their victories in the culture war. Conservatives are so clueless, they will voluntarily consign themselves to leftist gulags still reciting platitudes about free markets and free trade, while Comrade Commissar AOC calmly loads her pistol for the day's firing squad.

It's incredible...the idiocy of backing Uber.

I remember reading one of the complaints that the Luddites had with the system of the day. They complained about allowing unapprenticed children to work in the new factories. Basically, the new technology of the time somehow allowed for violations of a legal arrangement that others were forced to play by. The Luddites were not against technology. They were against the rules being applied evenly.

In the US, it is illegal to run a gypsy cab service. Uber and Lyft facilitate exactly that: people using their cars to violate these laws. The taxi unions aren't against progress. They are against having to pay $250,000 for a medallion just to do something other people can do for free.

We are back to the Luddite complaint.

This sort of libertardian conservatism really needs to go.

As far as Kentucky and Louisiana? Louisiana has a Democrat who governs like a Republican who is not an austerity junki...and he won. Meanwhile, Kentucky had a Republican who governs as am austerity junkie and got busy fighting the state over Medicare and Pensions. Somehow, this Repub got the idea that government should just run budget surpluese...and the bigger the surplus, the better.

Austerity-junkie Republicans are a huge problem.

Uber's plan all along was, "Let's destroy everybody in this space. Including EVEN our own drivers, whom we will replace. And then we can profit!!"

That is no exaggeration, that is no bullshit. They have not been shy about this, it's all openly stated. Incredibly.

That's "conservative"? Let's go destroy everything in sight, that's conservative? MAYBE. If you believe in the principle of "creative destruction", and if you believe in the principle of competition. But even still in those models you have to replace what you displace with something better.

So far, the only people who have made any money in the Uber space are the drivers. Uber has never made a dime, which is really hard to believe given that all they do is run a smartphone app. Uber never had to pay for its fleet of vehicles, it got volunteers. What a bonanza. All Uber ever had to do was hook riders up with drivers. It's a "finders fee" app at best.

But no, Uber has always insisted that is much more than that. No, Uber has visions about transportation and the relationship of humans with transportation and oh so many DEEP THINGS about life can be organized PROPERLY.

Uber is a deeply evil corporation. It was from the beginning. The first and best smartphone app in this space was SideCar, which is now defunct, but in every way conceivable the SideCar app surpasses Uber. As a driver for SideCar, for example, you could define on a map the areas of the city that you were willing to service. You could also define your own rates per mile. And more!

All that is crazy talk with Uber. Uber is a top-down autocratic concern, if you drive for Uber everything is standardized by Uber and your cut WILL shrink over time. Well, it always has before.

Uber doesn't even have a phone number. Never did. It has no human interface.
