Another Democrat defects

That makes two in one day:
State Senator John Yudichak of Luzerne County, Pennsylvania said that he will be switching his registration to become an Independent. He will caucus with the Republican majority. Yudichak has criticized an increasingly liberal Democratic caucus that has led to this decision.... Yudichak’s announcement comes less than 24 hours since we learned that New Jersey Democratic Congressman Jeff Van Drew has also made a decision that speaks volumes.
No wonder the god-emperor welcomes the impeachment process. His enemies are literally shrinking before his eyes.

People talk about Trump playing 4D chess. Trump made mistakes, such as hiring Bolton, but THIS is an example of 4D chess.
He put his opponents in a bind.
Putting your opponent in a bind is a chess strategy too.

Concernfags are good for the Senate. That’s where the danger has been in the impeachment nonsense in very recent times. The balance looked in numbers like security, where there was vulnerability. The vulnerability is being shored up. As this happens, concernfags are being returned to just being concernfags, thankfully. A lot of Swamp there still, but getting better, in terms of condition.

It looks like party-switching while in office has been rare enough that they're counted in dozens more than hundreds, and I'm sure many of those were third party shifting around. One is a big story; two is a trend.

Blogger Wayne December 16, 2019 11:54 AM

At first I thought this was the second PA democrat to leave the state party, but it's the same guy that announced on Nov 19th that he was going independent and caucus with the GOP. The article makes it seem like it was the same day as Van Drew, but it happened a month ago.

Blogger Weak December 16, 2019 11:54 AM

That's true Oswald, but celebrating these events is good for morale. It's easy to get blackpilled by the slow progress and fake news stories. Let's celebrate this moment for what it is.

Blogger Johnny December 16, 2019 11:56 AM

The Democrats usually have good internal party discipline. I suppose that is why they jump ship instead of voting against impeachment while in the party.

In the last few years the Democrats have been putting partisan zealots in their leadership positions. No deals Obama while he was in office. Looks like they are getting burned this time around for doing it. He who lives by the sword...

Blogger Damelon Brinn December 16, 2019 12:01 PM

Blogger nidus of inflection December 16, 2019 12:20 PM

That makes two.
A trickle so far, but could this mark the beginning of white flight from the Democratic Party? We should imagine an early stage to involve white males and justified by politically defensible and expedient reasons such as a local economy or the impeachment circus.

Scranton has been devastated by the gutting of America's industrial base. Trump is trying to bring it back.

There are a LOT of folks in Scranton area that love TGE. My wife's family is from there, and although they're pretty liberal, even they are tired of the Dem's relentless march into lunacy.

I predict Scranton will go red in 2020, especially if TGE can get more manufacturing to open up. As it stands, Scranton is filled with nothing but out of work Italians/Irish and welfare-sucking Negroes.

It's also heavily Catholic, which might suggest leftist tendencies, but if he can bring back jobs, they'll be willing to knuckle under.

Keep going, Trump train! This train ain't got no stops.

But I can honestly say, I don't know if all this is good or bad.

One of the problems with the R/D split is that it's absurdly coarse, which makes it more difficult to accurately judge where they actually are. Another is that, and this is true of both parties, the national-level/elites are far different than their base.

If, for example, I were to observe that the tech-industry is overrun by rampant, systemic fraud for the purposes of importing ever more H1Bs (and L-series) foreigners and suggest that the solution is to bring the Sword of Justice down on the Tech companies (even Big-Tech) utterly destroying them with fraud, human-trafficking, conspiracy to defraud the US, RICO, and [if applicable] anti-trust what am I?
— A "law-and-order" Republican?
— A "the worker needs just protection" Democrat?
See, the [traditional*] bases of both, could get behind that statement, but the leadership of either the Democrats or Republicans are essentially vehemently against it because they are (a) being paid off by those companies, (b) for unrestricted immigration [aiding the invasion], (c) actively hostile to the people of the United States, and/or (d) overly concerned with "the economy".

And this is why I'm not hyped about "Republicans win in a landslide"-style headlines; I don't want "Republicans" in office, I want men who will "Do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God".

* There's a Reagan quote that sums a lot of this up "I didn't leave the Democratic Party, the party left me." There's a LOT of people that feel this way since the Democrat party has become so [openly] anti-US.

I did briefly wonder if this is (A) rats leaving the sinking ship, or (B) principled objectors to impeachment insanity, but then the larger point is that trump is killing the democrats without even campaigning, just by letting them do their thing.

never interrupt your opponent while he's making a mistake, right?

Blogger Doktor Jeep December 16, 2019 1:50 PM

The deep state's response to this is to start killing democrats who consider defecting and trying to blame it on "alt right" or "white supremacists" .

Blogger Dan in Georgia December 16, 2019 2:34 PM

The dems overreached with Van Drew. He ran on a platform of voting against Pelosi for Speaker. There must've been a ton of pressure to make him reconsider when he won. When he actually did vote against her, he was dead to them. He's more to the right than anyone the fake NJ GOP was going to run against him. I could see (10% chance) the House flipping BEFORE the 2020 election. Now THAT would something to see.

It's not ideology. There's isn't changing, and they probably don't care about the party's ideology either. It's about their voters.

These two guys think that their constituents are more likely to reelect them as liberal independents than as liberal Democrats.

It's an indication of where their constituents are at.

Do a simple thought experiment: what would the narrative be if these were Republicans switching over to the D side in this situation? It would be non-stop crowing and strutting in the media chicken coop. It would be touted as a repudiation of Trump and his policies. The chickens are coming home to roost all right.

This is really interesting from the outside. 2 men crossing the floor, and for what looks like reasons of representing the voters. Such floor crossings are unheard of in Canada. Usually it's women, and usually it's to protect themselves with no care to what the voters think. I never thought I'd see the day where floor crossing is featured in American politics.

Boy they're in for a shock when Trump refuses and makes the courts rule on whether there's enough evidence to subpoena, which there isnt, and Trump has been stacking them in his favor, and they tell Congress to get F'ed.

Or better yet, Trump gives them to them, and there's nothing, and they look like complete and utter fools, more so than they already do anyway, and that's getting difficult to keep achieving.

If Trumpa financials were shady, don't you think the deep state would have found out by now and blown it wide open?

Many democratic voters in NE (really much if PA) are Democrats bu habit. They are former blue collar workers, union workers, etc. who had the carpet ripped out from under them and them were called stupid bigots for the subsequent 20 or 30 years. Central PA has been red for as long as I can remember, but Lehigh, Lazern, Dauphin, Berks, and Allegheny counties are purple. Many don't want change, they want jobs. They want to see their communities restored. Outside the black and import (Columbian, and central Americans mostly) it is very pro Trump.

South Jersey is a different animal all together, but my belief is that this is more an act of self preservation more than anything. If the respective GOPs run moderately compitant candidates the will likely get creamed - regardless of how the voted.

These people project. They cannot believe that anyone with money, or who is in politics, is squeaky clean.

Frankly, neither can I. Here's the thing though. Trump has been wiretapped, and investigated for almost 3 years and they found nothing at all. The possibilities are that this man is the sneakiest and smartest corrupt rich person evah! or he's really that squeaky clean, or that he's been planning this a long time and has stayed squeaky clean.

No matter which way you cut it, this man has accomplished something incredible.

Trump had been saying for decades that he didn't want to run for the presidency unless he had to. Since it's long been a thought in the back of his mind, I find it unlikely he wouldn't have conducted himself accordingly. I suspect the "grabbing" tape was the last skeleton in his closet.

Blogger MrNiceguy December 17, 2019 4:36 PM

This. Spygate wasn't, "let's spy on Trump and learn their campaign strategies." It was, "let's spy on Trump and prosecute him for all the illegal stuff we catch him doing."

In other words, they assume Trump is just as corrupt as they are. Didn't somebody write a book about this? Something about always projecting?
