I think this is the earliest I've seen a team lock up a playoff berth. Namely, the Saints on Turkey Day. The Pack get the (not so) Giants and the Vikes have to face the Seahawks. They've got an uphill battle to stay even with the Pack.

Blogger Mad Italian December 01, 2019 2:42 PM

Niners poor play clock management at end of half. It's the Lamar Jackson show right now. He's runs are opening game for Ingram. Still only 3 point game.

Blogger VD December 01, 2019 2:43 PM

Phenomenal trick play by Miami. One of the best I've ever seen.

Blogger Dave December 01, 2019 2:59 PM

That's the thing about playing teams with nothing to lose. Eagles play the fish, Redskins, and two vs Giants. Each of these teams as of now have 2 wins.

Depending on what the Cowboys do, the Eagles might not even have to win out to win the division. If they do, they'll play a home playoff vs either the Seahawks or Vikings.

Blogger SemiSpook37 December 01, 2019 3:04 PM

I’m not sure what’s worse: Devin Hodges dealing with Randy Fichtner’s horrible play calling or the fact that Baker Mayfield self-owned himself out of the 2nd half in Pittsburgh. Way too many short passes and heavily reliant on Nick Chubb.

Blogger Dave December 01, 2019 3:10 PM

Don't the Pats lock up their division just about every season by Week 3 or 4? The Bills have kept them honest this year though.

Blogger Mad Italian December 01, 2019 3:21 PM

I'm not sure what constitutes pass interference anymore. Pretty sure the WRs and CBs don't either. Play went Niners way, but still confusing.

Blogger Gettimothy December 01, 2019 3:29 PM

bucs stomping the jags.

And here I was thinking the Bungles would go 0 for season...

Blogger Kevin December 01, 2019 4:00 PM

Justin Tucker proves he's the best clutch kicker ever.

Pitt might be the second best organization in the NFL. You’re abandoned by greedy role players, handicapped by injuries to remaining stars, and you start the season 1-4... your season is over...

No, instead learn to mitigate your offense so that your defense can win you football games.

There’s a lot of football left, but you’re 7-5 and still in wildcard contention.

Props to Tomlin. That is a shrewd and competitive mofo.

Looking forward to Niners v Ravens in the Super Bowl.

Blogger Crave December 01, 2019 4:16 PM

Losing to the "Redskin People", as my wife referred to them earlier, may provide the impetus for Tepper to burn the organization down to "heal" it...a natural proclivity that I'm not entirely opposed to in this case.

Blogger Gettimothy December 01, 2019 4:23 PM

Bucs win and Carolina loss puts them tied for 2'nd in NFC South!!!!

at 2 games under 500.

Blogger Kevin December 01, 2019 4:30 PM

Always good to see the Eagles lose.

Blogger brbrophy December 01, 2019 4:42 PM

What about grabbler football?

Blogger DannyDanger December 01, 2019 4:47 PM

Tough time to be a Giants fan - years of skill position player picks while neglecting both lines has left us in rough shape. I've also lost any hope in our head coach a long time ago.

Miami is a fun team to watch - Fitz is really lighting it up and they have a spirit of freedom/fun going on. Like a "what do we have to lose?" kind of attitude. I'm pulling for them on the side.

Also - if anyone saw the Chiefs game: recent pass interference challenge by KC is such obvious pass interference, yet they refuse to reverse the call. What is the deal do you think? Is the NFL trying to implement the 4-fingers (when in reality it's 3) kind of mental game with the audience? Conditioning?

Blogger Dave December 01, 2019 4:50 PM

NFC Least. Fitzmagic did the same thing last year to the Iggles with the Bucs. Ah well, gonna need the Bears to beat the Cowboys Thursday night.

Blogger Gettimothy December 01, 2019 4:54 PM

Fitz is awesome. wish da bucs had him instead of current qb.

btw, if bucs want to pack the stadium next year, bring in Tebow as qb.

Blogger bodenlose Schweinerei December 01, 2019 5:23 PM

It may be unseemly, but it does my black little heart a world of good to see that both NY teams and both LA teams are quite crap. Coastal elites my hinder.

Blogger David Ray Milton December 01, 2019 5:24 PM

Jared Goff will be close to 300 yards passing in the first half vs AZ.

Blogger Ska_Boss December 01, 2019 5:26 PM

Always glad to see the 49ers lose.

Blogger Retrenched December 01, 2019 5:32 PM

At least the Dolphins beat the Eagles this week. Now Dallas can win the division by beating either the Bears or Rams and sweeping the last two against the Eagles and Redskins. Pretty sure they lose right away in the playoffs though.

Unfortunately this might be enough to save Jason Garrett's job yet again...

I think he's gone regardless - Jones is just so partial to him that he's giving him the dignity of a end-of-season exit

Blogger JAG December 01, 2019 6:05 PM

The Cowboys mentally quit against Buffalo. Hard to see them winning another game this season.

The 2019 Cowboys are in the running of most underachieving teams in NFL history. They have far more talent than this, but unfortunately nepotism is the management structure. Bad management that hires worse coaching. This is what happens.

Blogger Dave December 01, 2019 6:17 PM

Wanna know how bad the NFC Least is? The Redskins at 3-9 still haven't been mathematically eliminated from winning the division.

Blogger Hammerli 280 December 01, 2019 6:31 PM

If the D.C. Perpetual Losers keep this up, they may yet earn the right to be called "Redskins". They are showing flashes of being a competent football team.

Blogger Shane Bradman December 01, 2019 6:40 PM

The Match of the Week is tomorrow with the Vikings vs Seahawks. My money is on Seahawks.

Blogger Shane Bradman December 01, 2019 6:43 PM

Its worth a post to point out that the Bengals finally won a game.

Blogger Nate December 01, 2019 7:02 PM

derrick henry is one of the 3 best running backs in the league

Blogger Pax_Romana December 01, 2019 7:22 PM

@28 I'd rather love that, but I can't help but think that every Seahawk other than Russell Wilson and Bobby Wagner are inconsistent week to week.

That is huge for the future of the Bengals. Anything to avoid that 0-16 club of Detroit and Cleveland, both of whom have also never appeared in a Super Bowl. There's probably some sort of connection there.

#25. You can't say that this year's Cowboys are tremendous underachievers and that management is bad. You say the former because they have a roster with a lot of talent on it. Creating that makes it hard to call management bad, doesn't it?

Sure, they try to pay too many players and the owner loves having a weak coach that he can boss around. But the roster's pretty good.

Blogger Student in Blue December 01, 2019 7:37 PM

@17. DannyDanger

Rare as it is to watch a game, I saw the Chiefs game. Are you talking about the one in the third quarter, on a 4th down, Chiefs possession? Because that challenge got sustained, it was ruled pass interference, and Chiefs got the ball again.

Blogger van helsing December 01, 2019 7:44 PM

chargers suck. colts suck. eagles suck. jags suck.

It isn't an all or nothing thing. Talent acquisition is fine. Management, training, and coaching of that talent in games is not fine. The easy part is picking from among the best players in the world every year. It is hard to have that go bad. Where most teams in the NFL fail it is due to management.

The Cowboys haven't won anything of relevance in near a quarter of a century.

Jerry Jones named himself GM for life after he ran jimmy Johnson off as a two time defending Super Bowl champion. He has even admitted that his results since then would get him fired from GM had he not also been owner. Yet he refuses to step down.

They are going to blow the 1st round pick trade with Amari Cooper since they didn't have a contract worked out ahead of time in that trade. There is a very strong possibility that he walks in free agency to an offer the Cowboys cannot afford to match.

Blogger jwshell December 01, 2019 7:51 PM

@35...no 1st quarter, dude grabbed Sammy Watkins on the goal line, Reid challenged and lost...the other one was a turnover review, not a challenge

Blogger Jack Amok December 01, 2019 8:26 PM

What is the deal do you think? Is the NFL trying to...

I don't think the NFL gives a damn any more. They think people talking about how bad the officiating is means publicity. They've been morphing into the Drama League for a while now, and bad officiating is good drama. If they cared, they wouldn't have the stupid Coaches Challenge rule and instead would just have a replay official (Sky Judge) checking everything and buzzing down to the Referee if he saw something different than what was called. But there's no drama in that.

The Broncos were given the game by the refs with 8 seconds left. Called a complete BS DPI call to put the Broncos in FG range for the win.

Blogger Jack Amok December 01, 2019 8:32 PM

Agreed, and the Titans finally seem to realize it. Dion Lewis doesn't need more than 2 or 3 carries a game. Frankly I think Henry should get a few of Lewis' pass targets too.

Blogger Uncle_Ted December 01, 2019 9:36 PM

The Seahawks are going to win another Owl this year because Russell Wilson has a defense.

Blogger Dantheman December 01, 2019 10:48 PM

I can't tell if Brady is getting old or if his receivers are straight garbage.

Jack Amok wrote:They've been morphing into the Drama League for a while now, and bad officiating is good drama.

I guess this is the most simple explanation; the local talk radio hosts have been going on and on about how bad the officiating is all season, so that lends to your point.

Still, the conspiracist in me wonders if it also doubles as a large scale predictive programming event.

Blogger Fuzzy December 02, 2019 9:41 AM

@42 It's Brady! All of his passes are just short yardage. If it wasn't for Bellechuk and that defense, Brady wouldn't be anything special. I made a nice profit betting Houston straight up last night :)
