Another failed "peace plan"

I don't know why U.S. presidents waste their time on this nonsense:
US President Donald Trump unveiled his “Deal of the Century” peace plan on Tuesday in the White House, giving Israel full control of the settlements and Jerusalem as its undivided capital. The plan also established a Palestinian state.

The plan, Trump said, has the support of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his main political rival, Blue and White head Benny Gantz.

"If [the Palestinians] are genuinely prepared to make peace with the Jewish state," Netanyahu said in his remarks at the unveiling ceremony, "Israel will be prepared to negotiate peace right away." Trump said that the United States will recognize Israeli sovereignty over any land that “my vision provides to be part of the State of Israel" and will require the Palestinians to recognize Israel as the Jewish state and to agree to solve the refugee problem outside of Israel.

The prime minister is expected to vote on Sunday at the Cabinet meeting to immediately apply sovereignty to the territories in Judea and Samaria.
In other words, the Israelis are confirming the long-held beliefs of the Palestinians concerning the settlements, and they doing so with the blessing of the United States. How is this substantially different than the scores of Indian treaties that lasted until the settlers decided that they wanted more Indian land?

And who seriously regards this as a peace plan? Of course the Palestinians won't accept it.

Israel has a right to exist. Its right of conquest is no less, and no more, illegitimate than any other nation's right to land it has won through military victory. But it does not have a right to exist in peace; that has to be won separately, through convincing neighboring parties that peace is in their interest. And while I could certainly be wrong, I don't see how this "Deal of the Century" is likely to be of much interest to any non-Israeli parties.

Israel is a crusader state. Without transfers of populations from outside states, they are at risk of being overwhelmed.

They have a lot of people and resources that can go to Israel, but have chosen not to. Just like the Kingdom of Jerusalem, they are in danger of being overwhelmed by demographics and mass military action. So far, the Saudis and US have been keeping the opposing forces at bay, but to be honest both are in danger of internal rupture.

Not a good day.

Bibi is a madman. Palestinians know it and won't trust him. There's no point in trying to make a peace deal until he's retired, behind bars, or pushing up the cyclamens.

This smells like more electoral help for Bibi in March. A perma-hawk making peace overtures? Please...

How is this substantially different than the scores of Indian treaties that lasted until the settlers decided that they wanted more Indian land?"

It was even worse than that

Step 1) Department of State makes a treaty with indigenous tribes, defining border between them and U.S. territory.

Step 2) Department of Interior encourages citizens and immigrants to move west, in violation of the borders agreed to by the Department of State.

Step 3) New settlers come into the area, crossing the border defined in the treaty, usually in complete ignorance of where the border is. They've only been told to keep going west until they find unoccupied land. Of those few who are aware of the border ... they've already completely uprooted their life (and many have a wife and kids with them as well) ... they eventually violate the border, even if they are aware of it, simply to find some unclaimed land so they could build some sort of 1-room cabin for shelter before winter comes.

Step 4) Tribes conduct raids against the new settlers to encourage them to return to the white side of the border.

Step 5) The Army is called in to protect the treaty-violating settlers.

Step 6) Nearby tribe's local villages wiped out.

Step 7) Go to step 1.

Israel will have no peace because its enemies don't want peace. Even moreso - the supporters of its enemies don't want peace either. The Palestinians would have settled long ago if the rest of the Arab world wasn't supporting their constant low-level conflict with Israel.

It's almost like arbitrarily deciding to give some of the most coveted territory in human history to the Israelis was a pretty bone-headed decision. Can we just separate ourselves from the endless conflict? How is constantly intervening on behalf of Israel FOR NO REWARD OR BENEFIT TO OURSELVES "America First"?

Her Majesty the Queen has a greater and more legitimate claim to Jerusalem than the Jews. Palestine, of course, has the most legitimate claim to Jerusalem, and although it was the Holy Land, it can keep being Holy no matter which ethnic group is in control. Rome controlled Jerusalem in the time of Christ, not the Hebrews. That should be enough evidence that the Holy Land need not belong to any group to keep being Holy. Give Israel back to Palestine and kick all those anti-Semitic Ashkenazis out. They are not Semitic themselves and are the most vile racists on the planet.

no, that doesn't mean the White Man kept his side of the bargain.

There is no great love for the Palestinians among anyone who has to deal with them. That is why they are all bottled up so close to Israel.

Apparently, as a matter of internal politics, the other Arab nations find it expedient to have them around. It helps to gin up hostility to Israel, a convenient external enemy. And perhaps some religious sentiment in there also. It is natural and ordinary to not like foreign invaders.

Blogger Johnny January 28, 2020 8:18 PM

East of the Mississippi, the common pattern of treaties with the Indians was to give the tribal people some gifts, a tribal area, and then allow that white people could move into some land previously occupied by the tribe.

The tribal people didn't take property nearly as seriously as white people did, and that always made treaties kind of iffy. Plus the tribes were only loosely organized. The only braves who felt obliged to stay with the treaty where the ones directly involved with the deal.

Over time some white people would move into the Indian territory. Officially it wasn't supposed to happen, but enforcement was weak or non existent. Maybe miners or trappers at first, and eventually homesteaders.

The tribe itself could go to war but often didn't. Often some braves to go on the warpath and commit actions that in our current world would be called terrorism. Nasty stuff: killing, rape, death by torture, and burning out what was left. When the violence finally produced enough outrage, white people would make war their way, and run the Indians off. Next the white people would overcome their guilt or consolidate their gains by making a treaty that justified the taking of Indian land. Wash, rinse, and repeat.

After a while more or less everybody knew the treaty wouldn't hold. The individual Indians who went along for the handouts, and the whites who did it to legitimize the newly seized territory

The idea developed of a new and permanent treaty area to be established for the Indian Nations west of the Mississippi. That exposed the eastern Indian tribal people to the terror of the plains, the Comanche horse warrior, and led to some of the tribes being exterminated.

And as an aside, to a considerable extent, the Comanche tribal people are the reason we ended up with the Southwest territory. The Mexican army was ineffective against the horse warriors, and as an authoritarian society, they couldn’t arm their peasants. Before we ever showed up, the Mexicans pulled out. They let us gringo Texans into Texas in the general hope that we would be a buffer against the Comanche.

@21 Yes; here the GE has done the work to reduce US aid to the Palestinians, and set things up so that the Saudis and the UAE pull back their money too. Egypt is cooler, but they gave themselves an out by requesting that the Palestinians study the plan and return to the negotiating table and when they don't they too can cut off aid.

This leaves the PE with only Iran and Turkey as their money-giving allies and they have problems of their own.

I don't see this an an endgame. It's just a opening that's been substantially better thought out than many others over the years. Trump knows you can't fight someone who gets infinite resupply, so he's taken steps to choke that supply. Now there's a push, and then he'll see what happens as it glides forwards.

And with good reason.

Everything you know about American history, you learned from old 1930's "cowboy and Indian" movies, eh?

The Indian tribes lost their land because American colonists and settlers continually encroached it.... all the way to the Pacific Ocean. And if we don't come up with a more organized response to the modern day colonizer and settlers from India, China, Central America, and even Africa, then WE WILL LOSE IT, TOO!

Look, if the indigenous tribes have been successful:
1) They would have been even MORE ruthless
2) We wouldn't even be having this conversation.

So, no, the native tribes' violence was not "too extreme" by virtue of the fact that they lost. It took 300 years, but they lost.

i was quoting the Declaration of Independence.

that predates the existence of not just "movies", but the Federal Union of the independent Colonies and the composition of the Constitution. the genocidal nature of American Indian warfare was well known and understood by the middle of the 18th century.

Lewis Wetzel learned well the Indian methods of war, and used those methods against his teachers. for his efforts, the Indians gifted him the name "Death Wind".

Not sure why it's still unclear for everyone that this has nothing to do with the actual subject matter. Bibi and Trump are cross-campaigning, and that's all there is to it. They both just want to get on top of the news, frustrate their political enemies, get elected again and avoid Jail time, and they're doing it with considerable skill. It's not a peace plan, it's a two-man con.

Unlike previous plans that we've seen, this plan is BLATANTLY DESIGNED to fail. The desired result is for the Palestinians to go berserk now and provide a few months of news cycles where the impeachment and the Bibi corruption charges take a backseat. Also pay attention that the Saudis and Gulf Nations are co-signing. They have no reason not to - it will make their product more expensive and they're probably already promised some positions of power and profit in the post-collapse Palestinian areas.

And in the unlikely chance the plan fails at failing...well, both Bibi and Trump will look like world beaters. They'll be freaking elected for life.

Yeah, I don't really see any of this as Trump trying to bet on being able to resolve the issue. That is, he is not risking a lot of political capital on this plan succeeding.

In doing this, he is:

(1) Keeping Jared busy on something that won't alienate most of his supporters

(2) Helping his ally Netanyahu in the next election

(3) Trying to position the Palestinians as to blame if the plan fails.

(4) Displacing the impeachment to some extent from the news cycle by showing that it isn't slowing him down.

I trust Proverbs more than I trust Donald Trump:
Proverbs 25:5 — Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.
Proverbs 13:20 — He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.
Proverbs 1:11-19 — If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause:
Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit:
We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:
Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse:
My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:
For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.
Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.
And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives.
So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.

Make no mistake the Trotskites, globalists, grabbing-grablers, and Cheap-labor Express Chamber-of-Commerce all are just so greedy of gain. That Trump has not obviously thrown in with them is a God-given blessed-relief, but surrounding himself with swamp-creature after swamp-creature sends the wrong signals, and he just might get sucked in. — That is the huge danger facing Mr. Trump in the moral level.

Officials from sanctuary cities who don't turn over their illegals to ICE are now being arrested by ICE for violating a long-established law of interfering with a federal officer in the performance of his duties.

This sort of thing probably has a lot to do with a lot of the sanctuary cities deciding to make so many petty crimes illegal. "If we ain't arresting Jose' then we don't have to give Jose' to ICE."
