No one cares

Everyone on both sides is perfectly aware that the impeachment is Fake News, which is why no one is interested in the "historic" event:
The Senate spectator gallery was at least half-empty throughout the first week of President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial and senators serving as the jury in the marathon sessions are taking notice — some stunned that there aren’t more people watching history unfold, while others understand the public avoiding the repetitive proceedings.

“I’m really surprised at that because this is kind of historic and I would think this would be an opportunity for people to get in there regardless of whose side you are on,” Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.) told The Post Friday.
So, the Democrats lied about a lot of things, nothing is going to happen, and no one is going to pay any attention to stories about how you were there. And, on top of all that, it requires listening to a bunch of old people blathering on and on. There is literally nothing to appeal to anyone.

I'm surprised the gallery is anywhere close to being half-full.

Both sides are shocked, SHOCKED, to discover that the only attention paid to them is negative: scorn, derision and loathing.

If the gallery was within spitting distance, it would be overflowing.

Blogger Clint January 25, 2020 1:09 PM

It is quite funny (and telling) that the liberal media (MSNBC, etc.) are showing the whole thing. Fox (yeah, I realize they are not really good, but in the eyes of most, they are the "conservative" source) are not showing it.

What do we learn? Fox is at least smarter about how to get ratings.

Blogger kurt9 January 25, 2020 1:09 PM

The airports have it on CNN on their screens. I make it a point to avoid listening to CNN while traveling through airports. However, I did notice that DFW (yesterday) does have Fox News on as well.

Blogger Azimus January 25, 2020 1:12 PM

Everyone, literally everyone from the Senate to the lowliest hysteria troll made up their minds about these proceedings on November 9, 2016.

Blogger Laconic January 25, 2020 1:16 PM

They should not consider themselves democrats, they obviously despise democracy when they don't get what they want. They sound like whining children most of the time

Blogger Wazdakka January 25, 2020 1:16 PM

The Democrats have committed the gravest of crimes.
Being boring.

Blogger Salt January 25, 2020 1:17 PM

In one vein, Pelosi, Schiff, and Nadler could find themselves in major hot water. One of the Articles of Impeachment specifically enumerates Obstruction of Congress, namely that process emanating from Schiff's various committees were obstructed with. But today, in a meaningful way, the jurisdictional shoe was dropped. The House, as a required whole, never conferred jurisdiction to any committee to do anything. To send over to the Senate an Article based on non-jurisdictional bullshit is to pull a fraud on the Senate. This cannot be seen as mistake. It's knowing and intentional.

Best part is Chief Justice John Roberts presiding.

Blogger Nikolai Collushnikov January 25, 2020 1:19 PM

Unless Trump testifies.

Blogger Dole January 25, 2020 1:21 PM

Historical embarrassment for the democrat party.

Blogger RC January 25, 2020 1:22 PM

I watched the opening of the president's response during my workout today. It's easier to take at 1.5x.

They did a good job of hammering on what the house managers didn't state in their 21 hours - very effective.

Blogger Akulkis January 25, 2020 1:24 PM

And how much do you want to bet that everyone in that half-filled gallery is a urinalist, because they are the ONLY people who think there's something to this, because even Nancy Pelosi doesn't.

Trump is testifying? Clear my schedule.

The only thing that could top that would be if Q would testify. And the way it's going, I put a 17% chance of that happening.

Nothingburger.

"They should not consider themselves democrats"

Who said they ever considered themselves to be democrats? "Democrats" is just a name they call themselves by, so that they don't have to call each other Communists.

Blogger Akulkis January 25, 2020 1:45 PM

Even if Trump does testify, the Democrats will still be boring, while Trump will be deliciously entertaining, as always.

Blogger Noah B. January 25, 2020 1:47 PM

If they want crowds they could send the Capitol guards home.

"Watching history unfold"

Obvious decoys are obvious. The senator from Oklahoma should know that. Stupidity or complicity?

Blogger Shimshon January 25, 2020 2:17 PM

They could liven up things by expanding the trial into other things that went on Ukraine for real and calling the relevant parties as witnesses.

Blogger Duke Norfolk January 25, 2020 2:22 PM

They really are out of touch. Not surprising, I suppose.

You'd think they'd at least have a staffer or two who would clue them in; assuming they want to hear the truth, of course.

Blogger Johnny January 25, 2020 2:23 PM

The only cure for this is for the Democrats to get burned in the upcoming election. Lets hope it happens.

Blogger Rule of Wrist January 25, 2020 2:28 PM

The problem with the US constitution is there was never any provision for what would happen to elected officials who violate it.

Public: "You can't do that, it's Unconstitutional!"
Corrupt Politician: "So what? You won't do anything to me if I violate it like a Clinton on a trip to Haiti, so who cares."

The other mistake that's set in over time, is we've made it so only judges can decide what is or is not constitutional. Really?!? It's written in relatively plain language, anyone can see that certain things are unconstitutional. The McCain-Feingold rules about what campaigns can talk about near an election come to mind as CLEAR and easily seen violations of the 1st amendment, but until you take it up to the SCOTUS, we're supposed to sit back and pretend it has merit.

THEN, once it gets to SCOTUS, gets overturned on being the BS it is, NOTHING HAPPENS to the """lawmakers""" who proposed this dreck. They just go on their merry way with no censure, no consequences whatsoever for taking a giant dump all over the constitution, the American People, and the rule of law.

IMO, there should be a new amendment to the constitution to the effect of:

Any public official who is found to violate the constitution by word or deed will be subject to immediate removal from office and be barred from serving public office or in government service of any kind at any level in perpetuity.

With an amendment like that, even HINTING at making new laws that violate the 2nd amendment would stop immediately, short of lobbying for constitutional amendments themselves, which these current hacks never do.

Blogger CanticBear January 25, 2020 2:52 PM

Exactly. Trump drives the ratings.

Blogger Johnny January 25, 2020 3:18 PM

Blogger Derrick Bonsell January 25, 2020 3:27 PM

"Obstruction of Congress" and even the whole issue of suspending aid don't really seem like they should be matters for Impeachment but rather for SCOTUS in the civil legal system.

Blogger Akulkis January 25, 2020 4:36 PM

@20

"You'd think they'd at least have a staffer or two who would clue them in; assuming they want to hear the truth, of course."

The staffers are even WORSE than the politicians themselves. They get paid even less than the office-holders. They're in it ONLY for the opportunity to go to the "right" cocktail parties. And by the right cocktail parties, that means ones where anybody in touch with the common man is nowhere to be found.

Blogger Macs January 25, 2020 4:41 PM

They really failed to make it as diverting as I hoped. LOW ENERGY IMPEACHMENT!

Blogger MagnusStout January 25, 2020 5:35 PM

Most of the impeachment “leaders” are progressive boomers with memories of Watergate (to them, this impeachment is equal to that one). Yet, this is such a partisan witch hunt that there it has no chance of actually working. Liberals and progressives should be embarrassed and feel insulted that Schiff and company manufactured evidence (fake transcript), as well as twisted testimony. These people are evil and would step on the necks of their “constituents” if it benefited them.

I did enjoy listening to Pat (Jay, not as much). Pat’s presentation was excellent and his tone appropriate. Kudos to him.

"Stunned" Senators pretending to care. Trying to earn their reality t.v. ssalaries, but This whole is gonna get cancelled.

This occurrence is "historic" in the sense that the first black, lesbian dog-catcher of Blansom County, P.A. was history.

Blogger Damelon Brinn January 25, 2020 5:53 PM

I heard a sports radio guy in DC, who I think leans liberal, admit no one outside the Beltway cares. He's right about that. The only thing I've heard anyone say about it at work is, "You aren't watching that, are you?"

The Democrats/media convinced everyone back in the 90s that Clinton was impeached frivolously over a blowjob. That wasn't true, but it's how it went down in history, so it basically gave them one Free Frivolous Failed Impeachment card they could use on a Republican some day. And they decided to cash it in on Trump because they didn't know what else to do after MuellerTime failed to save them. Morons.

Blogger Doktor Jeep January 25, 2020 6:23 PM

Funny how the leftists bred a society so self absorbed and solipsistic as to gain power over it, but find they did all too well of a job.
If people cared as much as the media says they should, lots of liberals, academics, and journalists would be in prison or exhile.

Blogger Angela January 25, 2020 7:09 PM

The idea is that the voters would turn the rascals out. Under the US system, it is "We the People" that is the sovereign power. Not the president. Not the courts. And congress insofar as it stands in as representatives of the people.

The mistake has always been expanding the franchise and giving votes to stupid people with no stake in the future. Restrict the vote to never-divorced homeowners with legitimate children, and see the country bounce back from the abyss.

Blogger tublecane January 25, 2020 7:45 PM

@33- Like Democrats need an excuse. They'd be doing this or something similar no matter what happened with Ckinton. And public opinion is not cutting them slack on the basis of any card.

Anyway, they were the ones--along with certain Republicans--who dragged the nation through mud because Nixon did what everyone did since the inventing of electronic recording equipment. So who's playing what card?

Blogger The Pitchfork Rebel January 25, 2020 7:53 PM

@26

Enough alienation of power to the SCOTUS. This is a ridiculous contrived charge.

If "Obstruction of Congress" was a real crime, then Articles of Impeachment should have been drawn up against Obama when he declared the Senate in recess to avoid the need for advice and consent in 2011, and certainly when the matter was adjudicated as unconstitutional 9-0 by the SCOTUS in 2014.
