Airlines finally cancelling China flights

Corona-chan shuts down China travel:
The Trump administration on Friday declared the coronavirus a public health emergency, effectively banning foreign nationals who have been to China in the past two weeks from entering the United States

American Airlines cancelled all of its US flights to China, and said it was not to resume scheduled service until March 27. Delta Airlines said it will stop all US flights to China by next Wednesday, and keep the ban going till at least April 30. United will cancel all flights to China, except one from San Francisco to Hong Kong, starting Thursday, and will keep the ban until March 28.
It's mordantly amusing to see foreigners in China complaining that they can't return to potentially infect their homelands. What part of "quarantine" is hard for them to understand? Anyhow, they wanted to experience China and now they're experiencing it.

It would be wiser, of course, to shut down all passenger air travel, in the unlikely event that the virus's curve hasn't already been broken. Fortunately, it appears that non-Asians are considerably less susceptible to Corona-chan's effects.

France just repatriated a plane full of people from China.

They didn't bother testing them before boarding.

There was at least one sick person with symptoms on board...

Our Health minister proudly said the whole lot would be put in quarantine.

So, we'll soon have more detailed statistics about how many people one sick person will contaminate on a plane... all thanks to the (semi involuntary) participation of these people in this experiment... and government incompetence of course.

Quarantined ships, back in the day, flew the fever flag (yellow field) as a sign of infection. They waited out the infection, because breaking quarantine got you shot or sunk. Lot less costly than letting a plague loose. Useful lesson.

Fever flag is also known as the Q flag. Coincidence?

Dude gay? Is he father of first kid but let himself be cucked? Is 2nd kid a virtue signaling Churchian adoption, although close ages would seem to make that less likely.
Or some other guy is dad who bailed after wife got a black guy, and this guy is using her for a beard?

You are making the very rash assumption that the Chinese bioweapons research scientists (and I use the term very loosely there) have any more understanding of bio-engineering than does a 5-year-old child with his first paint-by-number kit has any understanding of composition and painting technique used by The Old Masters....

Once you understand that for millenium after millenium, the Chinese government has ruthless stomped out non-conformity, and thereby also stomped out creativity and inventiveness.

Give a Chinaman some books on a subject, and ask him to write a new book for you, and he will simply run to the photocopy shop, and slap together copies of various chapters from the books you gave him, then put his name on the front and tell you he wrote it all himself.

In contrast, an Indian would memorize one of he books, or get a bunch of friends, and each of them memorize a chapter. Then he or they would write it out again, word for word, and after all of that, still not have the slightest clue about what the book is talking about or what it means.

For a trans-Pacific flight?

And if so, that assumes that their flight plans are even accepted by US Federal Aviation Administration. Would be funny if they tried to come home without an accepted flight plan, and a couple F-22's sidled up next to the flight, giving hand-arm signals (or maybe hand-finger signals) while hailing them on the guard channel and telling them to turn around and go back.

But who are we kidding. I don't think even Trump is hard-nosed enough to order that, and we already know that CDC, Immigration, and Passport Control needed a swift kick from the Whitehouse to even comprehend what their most basic and obvious duties regarding Ports of Entry are in a situation like this.

"Charles M. Lieber (born 1959) is an American chemist and pioneer in the field of nanoscience ... In 2012 Dr Lieber, was awarded Israel's Wolf prize in Chemistry. He, along with 40% of the recipients, is Jewish."

Neon Revolt writes: Holy Crap:
Federal Agents arrested Dr. Charles Lieber, chair of Harvard University's Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, with lying to the Department of Defense about secret monthly payments of $50,000.00 paid by China and receipt of millions more to help set up a chemical/biological "Research" laboratory in China. Also arrested were two Chinese "students" working as research assistants, one of whom was actually a lieutenant in the Chinese Army, the other captured at Logan Airport as he tried to catch a flight to China -- smuggling 21 vials of "Sensitive Biological Samples."

The research lab the good professor had helped set up? It's located at the Wuhan University of Technology. Wuhan China is ground zero to the potentially global pandemic known as the "Coronavirus".

(Edited) commenters there:
Read up on his primary research focus and then compare that with publications of RNA and ACE2 receptors.

This guy is likely responsible for thousands of deaths and will be responsible for hundreds of thousands more. The R-naught or reproductive number of the virus, the number of people who catch it from an infected person, is 4. R0 = 4. That is like the old shampoo commercial. But they don't tell two friends. They tell four, and so on and so on and so on. That makes it worse than SARS. This is just the numbers the Chinese government permits so far to be known from a non-peer reviewed study. Early days yet.
Another study places the latest published peer-reviewed epidemiology for the mortality of the Wuhan coronavirus at 11%. Yes, not a typo -- Eleven Percent.
https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(20)30211-7/fulltext

He was getting $50k monthly, then another yearly $150k on top of that, then they also promised him $1.5M to set up his own new lab in *WUHAN*. Can you believe that? And the handler of his Chinese Army Lt. student was a COLONEL and prof at China's prominent Defense Tech University.

...The medical knowledge is important for treatment of disease but Ethel Rosenberg Lieber gave a complete recipe for creating a deadly coronavirus to the Chinese military for money.
96% of the novel coronavirus is giant fruit bat coronavirus, with half of it totally novel in placement -- meaning bioengineered to target the human ACE2 receptor... Where other coronavirus were weaker in this ACE2 receptor reuptake, this one is highly receptive. If it quacks like a bioengineered duck, it's bioengineered.
And the Chinese military messed up bad and let this crap out in their backyard it looks like. Likely a bat just flew out of a lab that they had exposed to the militarized coronavirus. Whoopsies. Then, someone caught the bat in order to sell it in the wild game trade. Yummeh. Those darn bats fly pretty good for soup meat.

Recall the Jan 14 2020 highly unusual briefing of Kansas legislature by DHS. Kansas State University is building a biosecurity lab with a price tag of 1.2 billion. Also story out about a professor there being federally indicted for secretly working for a Chinese University. What was that briefing really about?

@61

"I just got a report from one of my renter's that the trucking from the port is slowing down and they're all thirsty for work, blaming Corona chan.

The economic impacts are already starting here, east coast USA."

That's ok. This means transportation cost of trucking to your store is going to go down, as there is a temporary glut of trucking. Independent truckers will be hardest hit. Those driving for someone else will be hit less in their per-mile rates, but the trucking firms will cut back on total miles.

Meanwhile, American based manufacturers are going to see tremendous increases in demand for their products, and will start running their factories with at least one additional shift. Some might even go to 3-shift production schedules, with round-robin downtime on machine maintenance (starting with tail-end equipment, allowing previous machine to built up some surplus while last machine is being maintained, and then stepping forwards towards the first step machines in the process, so as to minimize resource starvation in the pipeline through to the end machine if they started at the front and worked towards the back).

This, along with the trade war, could be a blessing in disguise for those manufacturers who have their entire process inside the US.

Those relying on Chinese components are going to be hurting. After the last few ships from Chinese ports arrive, there's going to be at least 1-month drought while all of those Chinese factories sit empty and silent.

I have not the slightest doubt that if those manufacturers who have outsourced critical subcomponents to China come running to Washington for bailout money, Trump is going to tell them, "Look you idiots, I've been telling you for 3 years now to bring your manufacturing back to the U.S. But did you morons listen? Nooo. You were too interested in trying to buy a 3rd mansion while your former employees are literally starving to death. Now go join them. Or you can work for hourly wages on an assembly line for one of your competitors who saw the light, and did the right thing."

This is going to be a VERY bloody kick in the nose for the Swamp, and especially Walmart, who is the primary instigator of all of this transfer of manufacturing capacity to China.

I was working at Kmart headquarters in Troy, MI in 1999. There was an "all hands" meeting in the auditorium in which the CEO said that they had recently hired on an executive who they lured away from Walmart, and he revealed that Walmart had instructed EVERY SINGLE ONE OF MANUFACTURERS MAKING PRODUCTS CARRIED BY WALMART that they had 1 year to make sure that every single on of those products said, "Made in China" or their buyers would be instructed to no longer purchase from them.

Sam Walton would have committed suicide before issuing such a demand, as he was damned proud that he carried NO foreign-manufactured goods in his stores.

A pox on every single one of Sam Walton's heirs, as they're the ones who concocted this treasonous plan.

Enough with this "socialized costs / privatized gains" nonsense.

Treason.
The word you're looking for here is Treason.

This is absolutely what the US should have done.

If they're your pilots, then they'll want to come home, right?

Certainly. But they would not be AA, Delta, or United planes.

Moreover, antiaircraft artillery is a thing… as are missiles and interceptor-fighters.

Akulkis wrote:"What about the mountains of cheap crap made and grown in China? Is all that safe? Can we be sure? There's no way to quarantine all that without collapsing the entire CHINESE economy."

There, fixed it for you.

How long can you go without cheaply made, low-quality control Chinese crap?

Companies that didn't play the "privatize our profit increases while socializing the costs of unemployment" will do just fine.

All the other companies will get a well-deserved come-uppance.

Contrary to your original wording, shutting down outsourcing to China will REVIVE the world economy. Importing things which don't need to be imported only brings harm to the domestic economy.

This is absolutely correct. There's zero reason to shed a tear for all the "hardships" that companies that have offshored will have, and even less reason to help them because they're "too big to fail".

Amen.

Bats have a very high body temperature. A disease that can survive in a bat and that can infect humans is already immune to the main way our bodies deal with pathogens - running a fever. Which is why lyssaviruses tend to be deadly.
