Fake impeachment fail

The attempted dethroning of the god-emperor failed in the Senate, as we all knew it would:
The Senate on Wednesday voted to acquit President Donald Trump on both counts in his impeachment trial.

Forty-eight senators, including one Republican, found Trump guilty of abuse of power, while 52, all Republicans, voted to acquit him.

The president was also impeached on the charge of obstruction of Congress, in which all 53 Republicans found him not guilty and the remaining 47 senators voted to convict.
Now it is time for President Trump to demonstrate what happens to those who strike at the god-emperor and fail. Starting, of course, with Judas Romney.

It occurred to me it's possible Manchin may have in fact planned on crossing over, but Romney's announcement earlier today of his intent to convict scuttled it.

One thing for Manchin to side with R's and vote against conviction, but quite another to crossover when his left flank could now say "How could you vote for Trump when even one of his own party said he's guilty?!?"

So perhaps a 2X betrayal from ripple effect.

Similar deal with Bolton. "He begged me to hire him, so I did." Is that what he wants us to think it takes to get in his cabinet? Begging? But who knows, maybe it's Trump's design for these decisions to appear completely insane.

The first impeachment was targeted at a senator ( https://www.senate.gov/artandhistory/history/minute/The-First-Impeachment.htm ). His defense was that a senator isn’t a federal official and can’t be impeached.

Members of Congress can be expelled with a 2/3 vote of their respective house.

Impeachment was their third fail; the SOTU was #2. On national television, they sat on their hands as Trump announced the advancement of blacks, Hispanics, Asians, women...they even refused to cheer a Tuskegee Airman who just celebrated his 100th birthday and was promoted to Brigadier General that same day. It was a magnificent display of their seething hatred for everyone in America, even their own base.

Fuck Romney. Seriously.

Oh how agonized he looked struggling with his conscience, we can see just how emotionally draining it was for him to do the Right Thing. How he wrestled with his Faith, which is the very core of his being. Clearly it was the hardest decision he ever made in his life! God must have spoken to him directly--and him alone--guiding Mitt along the Path of Righteousness. There can be no doubt that Mitt Romney is the most moral, most God-fearing man of Faith in America today.

Certainly he has spent his life following God's direction, as he bled untold companies dry, leaving tens of thousands out of work and obliterating small company towns across this nation while amassing a massive fortune. Mitt could teach (((those people))) a thing or two; even the Jews never thought to acquire companies, have them borrow to the hilt to pay excess dividends until the otherwise financially sound company becomes insolvent. Brilliant! The Hand of God has clearly moved Moral Mitt in all his dealing, how else would a man become so materially blessed! He is a modern day prophet and a saint.

Can you impeach a Senator?

Senators are subject to censure, expulsion or recall.

https://www.deseret.com/utah/2020/2/5/21125200/mitt-romney-trump-impeachment-acquit-senate-vote-convict-utah-legislature-recall

even if Senators are legally susceptible to impeachment, that's not a political possibility as it would be the Pelosi run House which would have to bring charges against him and you're not going to get any Demonrat Senators crossing party lines to convict him.

expulsion also isn't politically viable as it requires the same 2/3s vote as impeachment conviction.

Blogger Spartan February 05, 2020 9:02 PM

A Senate vote of 53 to 47 sounds close, but it really is not, since two-thirds of the Senators must vote for conviction. Today, that would require 67 Senators....so they were 20 votes short of conviction. (Either the House Democrats knew in advance that the votes to convict were impossible or they were baited into impeachment by NeverTrumpers promising to favor it.)

In the 1988 impeachment trial of Bill Clinton there were 45 votes for conviction on the first article and 50 votes for conviction on the second article, roughly the same vote we saw with Trump, well-short of the number required to convict.

In 1868, the Senate impeachment trial of Andrew Johnson dragged on for almost two months, with the vote 35-19 in favor of conviction, just ONE VOTE short of the two-thirds majority required to remove the president from office. Yes, that was a close vote.

Blogger Ominous Cowherd February 06, 2020 3:06 PM

DonReynolds wrote:(Either the House Democrats knew in advance that the votes to convict were impossible or they were baited into impeachment by NeverTrumpers promising to favor it.)
Trump was egging on the low IQ, pro-peach mints Dems, and eventually they forced Pelosi's hand and she had to have a vote. Even through her dementia she knew it was a bad idea, but she lost control of her brown pets.

The Peach Mints may be the last hurrah for the Dems on the national stage for a generation or more. Between the clown show in the House and the mess they are making in places like Virginia and San Francisco, even normies and Retarded NeverTrumpers would hesitate to vote Dem. Also, I expect the Peach Mints has cemented the probability of Trumpslide-2020 at 1, which was probably Trump's reason for pushing so hard for it.

I'm sure Manchin is hoping the Romney vote will give him cover, but when 2/3rds of the people you represent voted for someone, it's really not a good idea to tell them you think their votes don't count. I'll be shocked if he wins re-election in 2024, especially if Justice runs against him.

"I'll be shocked if he wins re-election in 2024, especially if Justice runs against him."

I'll be shocked if he isn't in a federal prison by 2024. Arizona did an investigation, because Child Protective Services couldn't account for over 100 children in the foster care system, and none of them had been reported as runaways.

The significant names came up in relationship to what happened to these kids.

1) Former Arizona Senator Jeff Flake (who oppposed Trump on nearly everything)
2) Former Arizona Senator We don't say his name, son of an honored US Navy Admiral, and played nicey-nice with the North Vietnamese while a POW.
3) Mitt Romney.

Now why is his daughter holding a key spot in fundraising for Trump? Or is she RNC, and just using Trump's name to suck in those sweet, sweet, Trump-supporter donations?
