Seems legit

Apparently they're conducting polls for Republicans at the offices of the Daily Wire now:
Republicans overwhelmingly expect President Trump to be their nominee this fall, but nearly one-in-four GOP voters would prefer someone else.
Sure they would. Let's face it. The truth is that we're all pining for Jeb Bush. There is a man you want in a crisis.

Please clap.

Not only wrong, but bogus. This 25% may have been true in early 2016. From what I've observed, I'd say enthusiasm for TGE now is even greater than at any point in the first go round.

Blogger cecilhenry May 14, 2020 8:47 PM

Nearly 1 in for of the guys writing the article would prefer Trump were not the nominee.

FIFY.

As the socialists & progressives began their Long March into the Democrat Party in the 1920's, so too must the nationalists & dissident right make their own Long March into the Republican Party. Of course that presumes that it has not already begun.

23% of Likely Republican Voters

So Strange Internet Capitalization has spread to "legit" places.

Despite their pretensions to science, it's hard to understand how anyone can believe these "self-reported by shut-ins" polls have any meaning at all.

Blogger Yossarian May 14, 2020 9:18 PM

TYT did a poll as well. They got >90% Trump. Then they made an official report on some made-up numbers.

I actually view this as a positive.

People who are winning tend to dream bigger. I have no doubt 25% of the GOP want someone harder line than Trump.

Blogger Doktor Jeep May 14, 2020 10:21 PM

What made Jeb! a good governor of Florida was due to his lack of energy. If for example Godzilla rose out of the sea and attacked Miami, but the Bush would find out they would be serving up Godzilla steaks and making luggage.
In other words, his inept administration actually stayed out of everybody's way and that by itself created a stable environment. He was not a good governor, but actually so bad at it that he was ineffective and that's really what people need.

That's an interesting sort of inversion. Fully 77% are on board the Trump Train. Is it possible he will top Reagan's 1984 49 state sweep?

Blogger Snidely Whiplash May 15, 2020 12:21 AM

It is of the nature of American politcal parties that they are coalitions, where every candidate has supporters who wpould prefer someone else.
Without the context of how common it is for the members of any political party to prefer someone besides the nominee, this is a meaningless number. It would not surprise me if the typical number is 60% for a contested primary, and 40% for an uncontested one, which would make TGE a candidate that had achieved a remarkable consensus within his party.

Blogger JAG May 15, 2020 12:36 AM

Gallup has Trump at 93% approval among Republicans, the highest it has ever reached.

He's also at 47% with Independents, also the highest it has ever been.

The only people the Daily Wire are fooling with this fake poll are themselves. I doubt even Democrats would believe it though they would not admit it out loud.

Blogger ZhukovG May 15, 2020 12:42 AM

I know how they feel. But, mighty Cthulhu is still dreaming in R'lyeh, so I'll just have to vote for the GE.

For anyone with half an unwashed brain and still in possession of his soul, Trump is the only choice come November. Regardless, I will do what little I can to hold his feet to the fire. I received another text from the Trump campaign asking for a donation. I replied: My donation is at the bottom of the swamp. President Trump will have to drain it to get at it.

I did not receive a reply.

Generally speaking, the automated survey process is identical to that of traditional, operator-assisted research firms such as Gallup, Harris, and Roper. However, automated polling systems use a single, digitally-recorded, voice to conduct the interview while traditional firms rely on phone banks, boiler rooms, and operator-assisted technology.

Snidely, I'm with you. I voted for Trump and will proudly do so again. But the day DJT Jr. announces his candidacy will be the day I go down to party HQ and volunteer.

I do know Republicans/conservatives who are happy with the job Trump is doing, but when they talk about him, they feel like they have to preface it with a disclaimer about how they don't like something, usually the way he talks to people. Basically, they don't want their respectable friends to think they really *like* him, like those uncouth people with the MAGA hats, so they want to seem like they support him reluctantly. This either reflects those people, or (more likely) is meant to appeal to them and make them think they're a big voting block that should try to change something.

Blogger rcocean May 15, 2020 11:16 AM

Its a meaningless hypothetical question. I'd love if Reagan came down from Heaven and got the R Nomination. But that's not happening. Also, at least 25% of the R party are cucks who wanted Yeb! and would love to lose again in 2020. These dummies wanted Ford in '76, Bush in '80, Dole in '96, McCain in 2008, and Mittens in 2012. They're losers.

Breaking news: Biden says he won't pardon Trump if elected. While it's a meaningless notion playing to his rabid base over their bizarre #RussiaGate #Pissgate conspiracy theories, it now gives Trump a plausible basis to choose to not keep Obama and Biden from the noose.

We can all be fine if we all give the façade of playing nice. But, if Dems are going to overtly broadcast their lack of interest in living together in peaceful harmony, let's all agree to get the civil war started sooner rather than later.

Blogger Johnny May 15, 2020 12:13 PM

@29

Also look at the GOP Primary for 2020 (Yes, they still held it). Trump has 94.16% of all votes cast and the second highest candidate is Bill Weld at 2.02%.

I bet most of the "Wants another candidate" are the types that want Tucker Carlson, not the types that want Jeb Bush. I've been frustrated with Trump's lack of progress, but even I supported Trump over Weld. Nobody wants to go back onto the GOPe plantation.

Blogger James Dixon May 15, 2020 12:17 PM

> Apparently they're conducting polls for Republicans at the offices of the Daily Wire now:

Rasmussen is the only trustworthy poll out there, but yeah, there's something fishy about this one. 90+% approval rating does not translate into 23% wanting another candidate.

@40

Donald should be the last Trump in office.

Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner are dyed-in-the-wool Globalists who supported the Paris Accords and the First Step Act.

Don Jr is an even bigger CivNat than his father and is married to Gavin Newsom's used goods and former La Raza attorney Kimberly Guilfoyle. Look at how Kimberly went full Karen against the Groypers chanting for a Q&A while Don Jr just stood there like a deer in the headlights. Kimberly's a GOPe stooge and her husband will be too.

Eric Trump made that awesome comment about "shekels", but I don't think he's a fighter. He dropped charges against that waitress who spat on him. We need a fighter.

Maybe Barron Trump can lead the Zoomer army to victory in 2044 and continue the policies of the long-ruling President Tucker Carlson.

Blogger Hammerli 280 May 15, 2020 12:56 PM

@58 "Don Jr is an even bigger CivNat than his father"

Have you read "his" book? Even IF all ghost-writer and focus group and he just let them put his pic on the cover... Even IF just a soft-focus advertisement for his future... {gag}

I thought semi-well of him till I read it. (Seems awfully limp wristed, pretending to be a man...) He may do a bang-up job of apparently aggressive tweeting, but in "his" book he's softer than our God Emperor' and Trump Sr. makes me despair of the future because he is so unwilling to bite and snarl and rip and tear... and esp. follow-through!

"Block all immigration!"
"Well, just for 60 days..."
"But not including million-dollar Chinese who want to buy their way in, and still letting in lots of "seasonal" workers -- oh, and still a bunch of H1Bs too..."

(Where the hell did "DACA will be cancelled on day one" go to?!)

"But did you see? We're running up on THREE HUNDRED MILES of border fence!" (Out of -- what's it? -- 2,600-and-change?!?!)

"Hillary'd be in jail?" When, after she DIES?!

And what's he going to do about the Fed breaking laws like crazy?! Making up acronym-agencies to buy up stuff they're NOT ALLOWED to buy?

I trust the plan. Well, I try to trust the plan. I don't see any other option than to prep, pray, and wait.
