Not the National Guard

Look like the nasty guard to me

For those who are on the side of America: Godspeed and God be with you.
For those who support the commie insurrection: God damn you.

Any mayor, governor, or public official who interferes with law enforcement should be arrested by these National Guardsmen.

And check out these guys. Notice something? All white males. These definitely aren't the (((optics))) we're used to seeing.

Also, the videos of all the ridiculous dancing being performed by National Guard troops looked suspiciously like they're just redoing the nursing dance scenes in different costumes.

If any of these Guardsmen were to side with the commies, would they be arrested by other Guardsmen? Just wondering how this plays out. Given the infestation of our institutions, including the military, one cannot assume 100% loyalty to POTUS and the rule of law.

Blogger Reader June 06, 2020 6:46 PM

There is something odd about the wording "sworn in as temporary U.S. Marshals in support of citizens at the Nation’s Capital". I can't put my finger on it, but as this is unprecedented in my lifetime, there is undoubtedly much that I am missing.

Blogger Cloudbuster June 06, 2020 6:46 PM

That's a lot of White men.

53rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team
United States
The 53rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team is an infantry brigade combat team of the Florida Army National Guard. The 53rd Infantry Brigade is the largest National Guard unit in the state of Florida. The brigade was one of fifteen enhanced readiness brigades, designed and trained to support active duty divisions. The brigade includes 32 units in Florida and Alabama with 4,166 authorized personnel.

Blogger Dos Voltz June 06, 2020 7:00 PM

Hmmm. One of the main duties of the US Marshals' Service is to transport prisoners across state lines.

Maybe rioters are destined to be arrested and then taken.... somewhere else.

Hopefully to a state where a Trumpian judge can be found to fully prosecute the scum.

And I hear things are a little slow at GITMO lately.

Blogger RedSauceRob June 06, 2020 7:05 PM

They don’t look like real soldiers. Too fat, too soft, too generally out of shape.

Blogger Retrenched June 06, 2020 7:06 PM

So these guys won't be doing the macarena with the looters then?

Anonymous Anonymous June 06, 2020 7:16 PM

Any mayor, governor, or public official who interferes with law enforcement should be arrested by these National Guardsmen.

That would be providing material support (under the category of "expert assistance") to Antifa. And since Antifa is an officially designated terrorist organisation, providing them material support means the military can disappear you to Guantanamo and waterboard you for fun before you can say #MeToo.

This is why you don't build concentrated power structures of political oppression: because the people who inherit them might not be the people you would want. But if prog left woke assholes could think further ahead than their immediate emotional gratification then they wouldn't be prog left woke assholes, now would they?

Yippeekayay, motherfuckers!

Blogger Damelon Brinn June 06, 2020 7:25 PM

That's a lot of White men.

According to the most recent numbers I can find, the Guard and Reserves are only 24% racial minorities. That's whiter than the active military or the general population. And a lot of Guard units come from very white, Trump-voting areas. If you happen to call in some of those, that's what you're going to get--a bunch of white guys with some white women mainly in support roles.

Blogger rikjames.313 June 06, 2020 7:27 PM

The vast majority of combat arms and major combat service support are white male. Of minorities, many are Pacific Islander/Hispanic.

@8 U.S. Marshals do not answer to Governors but directly to the Justice Department. I think it might be a way of keeping them from being stood down.

Blogger Stilicho June 06, 2020 7:42 PM

Wasn't Q predicting this?

Blogger tublecane June 06, 2020 7:43 PM

@8- I don't know about the wording. Presumably, you couldn't have National Guardsmen policing D.C. without declaring martial law or whatever kind of emergency permits the use of soldiers as domestic law enforcement. So they'd have to deputize them as something.

Marshals are supposed to answer directly to the A.G. They are incidentally known nowadays for escorting black kids to school during the Civil Wrongs "Movement." Sort of an Overreachingly Long Arm of the black-privilege federal court system.

The FBI, for instance, has a less friendly reputation with blacks. Maybe that's the PR aspect of making them Marshals.

Blogger Daniele Grech Pereira June 06, 2020 7:53 PM

They have hockey knee pads. I don't know how these guys can stand them, I found them to get in the way while running, and weren't even comfortable to kneel in. Guess I'm getting old!

Blogger Hammerli 280 June 06, 2020 8:42 PM

I'm scratching my bald spot trying to work out the implications. If the intent is to provide legal authority for the Storm, it would have been done in secret. Probably a show of legality to give them arrest powers if needed.

Blogger SciVo June 06, 2020 8:43 PM

Eh. D.C.'s just a bunch of TWANLOCs anyway, so I don't really care if they sort it out or not.

They don’t look like real soldiers. Too fat, too soft, too generally out of shape.

Real soldiers mostly look detuned. They are kept busy and sleepless often enough eating crappy food and there is no gym time. Field work doesn’t condition for looks and real soldier bodies learn to pack on the calories given during exercises they are starved or malnourished.

This unit’s members also hold down full-time jobs except during deployments and training. Those chiseled gods you see in uniform are either SOF or REMFs, the latter putting in their eight hours (actual working time typically half that with a good administrative gig) and then heading to the gym so they can look like warriors. Don’t confuse actual warfighters with plastic soldiers.

This unit works for Trump, now. They were flown here by DeSantis and deputized as Federal Marshalls. Interesting.

@SciVo The U.S. Marshals are a civilian agency. They wouldn’t look the part if they stood at ease.

Blogger Snidely Whiplash June 06, 2020 9:56 PM

The Posse Comitatus act prohibits police powers to the Army, or to militia outside their home state. As a militia, National Guardsmen would not be able to do any more than guard federal facilities. As Federal Law Enforcement Officers, they will be able to arrest, detain and interrogate civilians. They will also be under the command of the DOJ, not the DOD.

Blogger Reader June 06, 2020 10:05 PM

How will these Guardsmen act "in support" of the citizens at the Nation's Capital? You'd think the freaking National Guard are clearly there to defend and protect, not support. That's just so strangely put. We must not get the enemy mad at us...

Blogger Reader June 06, 2020 10:17 PM

Going by what I see, highly likely they are a reserve unit that attends active duty maybe two weeks a year. Okay guys but not very military and probably adequate for their current role. Not exactly special forces.

I did a little crowd control stuff when I was in the military and I really hated it. No training on how to handle civilians other then killing them, and if things get screwed up you kind of know the brass will blame you for the usual reason. They will cover their a$$ by nailing yours.

As for messed up formation, some at parade rest, some at attention, some at ease, they were formed up, put at ease while someone talked to them about what they would be doing, then told to raise their hand for the oath by the oompa loompa who forgot to put them at attention first. Some went to, some didn't. The weight issue is just national guard. You can find that wide a swing in active.

The some with leg armor, some without could be a logistical thing. If it is gi could be lost, most likely issued on site and just not picked up yet by some. Course I remember a picture where some airmen had field jackets and some didn't. Everyone with jackets had to remove them and throw them on the ground while the picture was taken. I suspect the air force worries more about pictures though.

@14 "the people who inherit them might not be the people you would want"

This is why I keep wanting to try to 'reach' my idiot-lib sisters with:

All the Right/Far-Right's insistence on laws and rules and standards and boundaries? It's not ABOUT controlling you and your favored groups. What happens if WE decided to blow off laws and rules and standards and boundaries?

They are to restrain US, and we choose to participate in them voluntarily... but if y'all destroy the rule of law and the rules of engagement and the standards of conduct and the boundaries of access? Well...

You wouldn't like us if we get angry.

There's a prescient saying that resonates with me: when various peoples get angry and act it out, they destroy their own neighborhoods. When White people finally get angry enough, they destroy CONTINENTS!

But, alas, it's pretty much dialectic; and wouldn't make a dent in, for example, my girl-cousin who proudly announced that she had worn a pantsuit to her local "women's bookstore photo-op" to show her support for Death-Grandma Hillary in the 2016 election.

Trump PUT ON A SHOW for 3 days by shuffling 2-3 **military** units around where the press could see them, the 86th Airborne and the 1st Cav.
...
The tactical units from the FBI, the ATF, the BOP, the DEA, the US Marshals, and other federal agencies, have now been successfully dispersed & positioned.

Trump was never going to use the US military to go in and stop the rioting.

He put on a dog and pony show to keep all the usual suspects out of the way while stuff got done.

"Trump's sending in the troops to stop the rioting!"
"NO wait, the troops have been ordered back to base!"
"NO WAIT THE TROOPS HAVE BEEN ORDERED TO STAY, they're not going back to their base!"

Nobody could figure out what was going on.
...

================
Cates 'annotates' the then-ongoing presser:

...
Now it's Michael Carvajal, Director of the Federal Bureau of Prisons, speaking.
"FBOP has many trained and equipped riot squads in it. "
Makes sense they'd be called on in respective cities to engage in riot control.

"When Dem Mayors & Governors order their police forces to stand down & won't call in the guard, the BOP tactical units can be sent in to handle it."
Carvajal speaks for less than 1 minute, now it's Timothy Shea, the newly installed Director of the DEA speaking.

The Guard unit I was in back in the day was full of white guys who were often out of shape and hung over. They loved their country and their local community. These guys aren't high enough up the food chain to be pimped by Soros. Deputizing them might be a very bright idea.

Blogger jarheadljh June 07, 2020 2:33 PM

That's exactly what I would expect out of a guard unit, or for that matter most reserve units considering I was in one. Marine reserve would be in a little better shape(no obvious fatties), we'd look sloppy, and by the time we get passed deploying&staging to the actual start of the war you wouldn't be able to tell us apart from any other unit.

No different with these guys. They look as tough as they need to in order to deal with the threat level they are presented with, because let's face it, the Iraqis put up a lot more of a fight than Antifa&BLM are going to.

Blogger RamboBearRon June 08, 2020 7:35 AM

I had the pleasure of shooting with a guardsman from the 53rd yesterday at my buddies tac range. He was 150lbs overweight, said he never trains with pistols, and certainly not proficient with iron site rifles, especially on the move. Needless to say, we are definitely well guarded at home... can we please bring some of those boys from Falluja home instead?

"They don’t look like real soldiers. Too fat, too soft, too generally out of shape."

My national guard unit (E company/1-125 Infantry)looked the same way when we deployed to Iraq in 2006 for a 12-month tour.

Our Brigade commander sent out a letter when we had been in-country for 10 months, noting that my company had:
(1) captured or killed more high vale targets
(2) found more weapons & materiel caches
(3) found more tonnage of weapons & materiel caches

than any of the other 7 battalions (consisting of 6 to 8 companies each) under his command.

National Guard units may not look pretty, but they tend to be awfully damned effective.

Blogger Akulkis June 09, 2020 4:07 AM

>> What's up with the kneepads?

Standard uniform accessories, when you anticipate operating in a MOUT (urban) environment, as kneeling on a cushy kneepad is a lot more comfy than kneeling on bare concrete. Also, desirable in civil disturbance situations.

What I don't get is why does the Florida guard issue black shin guard/kneepads, when there are camo versions in the system.

>> I know one of the people who was taken out of the national guard because he espoused "white supremacist" views.

I'm sure there was more to it than just that. Very few National Guard units are overstrength, and there is a constant emphasis on treating soldiers fairly for retention. Screw over one enlisted man, and you'll be repaid with half a dozen choosing to not re-enlist, or, if the stay in, to re-up with a different unit.

Comments here and there can be ignored. IF they weren't ignored, it was because he was a monomaniac, to the point of being detrimental to unit effectiveness. Probably a jackass in one or more ways, or otherwise a non-performer.

No officer chapters out good men, and National Guard officers tend to be the best of the lot when it comes to issues of character and love of their community. When it comes to an issue revolving around interaction of any sort between the public and the military, I would generally trust any National Guard officer over an officer of equal rank who has spent his entire career in the regular army.
