Setting them up

I don't know exactly what he has in mind here, but it should turn out to be more than a little entertaining:
With Universal Mail-In Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good), 2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history. It will be a great embarrassment to the USA. Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely vote???
- Donald J. Trump
I'll be very surprised if he doesn't turn out to have had something up his sleeve this entire time. It's not like Creepy Joe is going to beat him anyhow. The polls are totally meaningless at this point. I can still remember when Dukakis was supposedly leading Bush, 55-38, on July 26, 1988, prior to losing 53.4 to 45.6. That was a 24.8-point change between the end of July and the beginning of November.

Democrat Joe Biden maintains a seven point national lead over President Donald Trump among registered voters for the November 2020 election, 48 percent to 41 percent.

Note that Biden's putative lead is ten points less than Dukakis's nominal 17-point lead. So, we're still looking at a Trumpslide, perhaps even a historic one.

One card up the sleeve could be to turn contact tracing back on the left. Show a government photo ID to vote. No ID? No vote. Can't add you to official trace list, so you're not getting a chance to kill Aunt Sally the poll worker and walk away.

Blogger Shane Bradman July 31, 2020 7:25 AM

Once again, Joe Biden went somewhere to give a speech and forgot where he was. That's not presidential energy.

Given the sheer stupidity of the fraudulent poll numbers, is it possible that Trump *doesn't* have something up his sleeve?

Blogger Shimshon July 31, 2020 7:31 AM

Trump does sound like he's telegraphing something, or floating a trial balloon.

Given that the 2016 election could have turned on five counties in three states, they, and by they I mean both sides, have the ability to commit or detect and inhibit fraud down to a science. I mean, engineering. Well, to our side, I suspect it's engineering, and to their side, science (that is, magic). They got away with it for so long, because there was no actual opponent.

Blogger Dan in Georgia July 31, 2020 7:32 AM

If Trump decides to only allow citizens with Social Security Numbers to vote, just like that, we'd have national voter ID. It'd only be a matter of updating the present SS cards with date of birth, height & weight, and a picture. They could encode the SS# in a QR or bar code. But we'd have to do it pretty fast.

Blogger KPKinSunnyPhiladelphia July 31, 2020 7:36 AM

This tweet is classic Trump in so many ways. He gets unbelievable mileage out of this one, as he so often does.

1. Timing -- Yesterday, when it was announced that US GDP contracted by over thirty percent, the median didn't gasp in horror, and run endless column inches about how the economy has been ruined....they instead were all aflutter about if the Orange Man Hitler was gong to delay the election (which is about as likely as our esteemed blog proprietor playing for Juventus). He waved the meaty bone at them, tossed ot 15 yards in the other direction, and the pack took off.

2. Corner painting -- Heck, if you get the other side to tut-tut that the election can't be delayed...then can you argue that schools can be delayed? Normal living can be delayed?

3. Raising awareness of the difference between absentee ballots and mail in voting -- Already Ohio and Florida have said no to mail in voting, two key states Trump has to win. The two governor there will work to max out absentee balloting. Moreover, if governors like Whitmer go for mail in, the suits will come thick and fast.

Finally Democrats are going to have a turnout problem, and they know it. Biden doesn't excite the Negros. White lefties will remain catatonic with panic porn, thinking if they go outside without a hazmat suit, they will die. Mail in voting is their only slim chance they have, and the GE will expose its issues every chance he gets.

Ah Joe, the Gif that keeps on giving.
Senile evil, Speak servile, Hearing loss.

Blogger RobertDWood July 31, 2020 7:46 AM

Is this an example of Trump moving the window or making a wedge among his enemies?

He sees a nationwide reluctance to gather socially. He also knows anything he proposes will be rejected by the Orange Man Bad world. To get to his real drive (holding the election) he'll make the head fake of no election to get the predictable backlash to support an election. Then the cognitive dissonance and gnashing of teeth intensifies among his enemies.

Blogger 351wsl July 31, 2020 7:51 AM

My guess is that he suspected a Democrat push to delay the elections, maybe because they'd like to swap Biden out for medical reasons, and now he has the Democrats on record saying that's impossible.

Blogger Damelon Brinn July 31, 2020 8:06 AM

My thought was that he's cutting off one of their options. I expected the Democrats to pursue a delay, especially after the idea was floated in the media the other day. It would set up the usual narrative: Democrats want to do the reasonable, fair thing, while Republicans are mean sticklers for the rules. The whole thing would be framed as inhumane Republicans forcing voters, especially poor minorities, to choose between health and democracy.

Now Democrats can't raise the idea without agreeing with him, which is basically impossible for them at this point. Especially since he called out fraud as the reason for delay, since Democrats insist vote fraud doesn't happen--except that one time when the Russians did it, but definitely not internal fraud. So now they have to *insist* that the election happen on schedule, which gives them no extra time to replace Biden or pull off a coup.

Or he's just screwing around, and that was the media-triggering laser-pointer game for the day.

Blogger Pencil Maestro July 31, 2020 8:20 AM

Safely vote? So no voting before the vaccine?

Blogger JC July 31, 2020 8:34 AM

The polls were the same in 2016 and yet there are still people being black-pilled about it this time. I guess the demographic shift could have changed things since but that does nothing to explain why the polls were way out last time. The average voter in America has no way to openly do anything political except vote. I am more confident of a 2020 Trumpslide now than I was when I bought the t-shirt years ago.

Trump floated the election delay trial balloon right after Dems were talking about how, with mail-in ballots, we may not know who won for days or weeks. Like in 2000.

Trump is masterfully conflating this with delaying the election. This was meant for the Dem base, not us.

And no one talked about the 30% gdp drop. Win-win.

Blogger Christopher July 31, 2020 9:03 AM

What if he made a bunch of arrests of congressman, senators, maybe even a supreme court justice, a week or two before the election? Aside from the hysterical screaming, there might also be some calm opposition voices saying, 'Ok if they're guilty their guilty --let's give the investigators and prosecutors the benefit of the doubt. But, come on, this is nuts how big this is. And the timing. Let's just delay the election a few weeks or a couple of months while we get some sort of handle on this, check it out at least at the preliminary level.'

If this theory --I'm just brainstorming, if I had to I would rate some of the other comments as more likely. But if this theory holds any water it might be worth noting any 'dogs that don't bark,' any politicians who are completely silent on this latest from Trump. Of course, they might be silent because they know or think it's the usual Trump 'painting' etc. So more interesting would be contrast: a politician who's been blabbing or screaming for four years but suddenly goes silent now.

Blogger Dan in Georgia July 31, 2020 9:08 AM

Interesting that Trump volunteered that he’d be voting for himself absentee in Florida. A lot of snow-birds use Florida and Arizona as their permanent residence. He’s distinguishing mail-in ballots from absentee voting, while encouraging his supporters who won’t be home to vote, to vote absentee. Smart.

Blogger basementhomebrewer July 31, 2020 9:33 AM

What if he made a bunch of arrests of congressman, senators, maybe even a supreme court justice, a week or two before the election?

I doubt it will be that comprehensive, but I wouldn't doubt that he drops something on Biden, Rice and or Kamala that will take out the Dem's Presidential and VP candidates a week before the election. I think it's a lot less plausible that it ensnares any other candidates or office holders.

This is the perfect play for that because he has all of the Dems and their allies in the media screeching about how there is never an excuse to delay an election. It also has the advantage of showing a material move to drain the swamp which will juice up his voter base going into the election.

I heard on sputnik radio a week or two weeks ago, an author, name unremembered, writer of a book about how trump stole the 2020 election, past tense, by making sure 16 million voters were purged from the voter rolls. If true, that would be 16 million less voters getting their mail in ballots. None of those 16 million I am sure would be voting for Trump anyway. Considering Trump loss the popular vote by something like a little over 2 million, that would be a landslide or trumpslide for Trump. By the way, I think Hillary only won the popular vote by fraud in California. She received 4 million more votes than Trump there. How many of those were faked?

Mail-in ballots should be required to be returned in person and verify ID.
No waiting in line for people to complete their ballots.

I think major fraud would be the adding of bogus completed ballots by corrupt election officials.

Virginian UMC suburban moms are going catatonic with fear over not knowing how to handle their high-stress lives without physical school in the fall. Equivalently educational childcare is under too much demand now; forget cost, it might as well not exist. So what are they going to do, just not work?!?! That's the equivalent of paying >$10,000 a month for childcare!!

(Note: warehousing is not an option. You can never go back in time and nurture your kid's development like you didn't do just now.)I

So that's the regional context for this tweet. It might be multi-dimensional, but at least one dimension is aimed at shaming the Virginia public school teachers into going back to work, unless they want Trump to just stay in office.

A better play is to turn the mail vote into a farce.

The average congressional seat has 711,000 voters.

Imagine how credible it'd be if the Democrat candidate received 2 million mail-in votes

I used to conduct these "surveys" for Ipsos-Reid, Neilsen, et al. There are glaring problems with their methodology.

A) They usually do not call/allow surveys on cellphones (because they want to make sure they do a specific number of interviews in each state/city/etc.) - Who still uses a landline?

B) The only respondents who generally want to talk are very old people with nothing better to do.

C) Interviewers are pressured to produce, so encourage respondents to quickly go through the interview without care.

D) Many respondents who would be pro-trump are actively against pollsters, and will purposely spoil the results.

This is already too long. After working in the industry for a few years, and jumping up the chain of command, it became clear that it was a sham. Their power lies in -producing results- that appear legitimate, thereby influencing public opinion.

Dang, auto-subtitles disabled, so are comments. I pasted in the title and description to translate, but it was quite vague... obviously more clear details would be in the full transcript [can anyone help?] of what this patriotic leader said to his people:

Lukashenko on imposing additional conditions for obtaining external loans: "We will not dance to anyone else"

For Belarus, additional conditions that are not related to the financial part imposed on it with external lending are unacceptable. This opinion was expressed by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko during a meeting on measures to support the real sector of the economy by the banking system.

2016 was probably the last election, and that's a stretch. A stretch because even parts of the federal government have been insurgent against the outcome of the 2016 election. If even the government does not respect this "peaceful change of power" any more, and the leftists are going full ape-shit anyway, then we can count on there being no more elections.
What Trump might have up his sleeve, is to remain in power anyway. Good.
But I would also say that it appears the left is going to do what they do win or lose. The rage mobs and riots won't stop if Biden wins. What do they do? They double down, that's what. The plans they have in place will go ahead regardless of the result, as surely as the result will be in question. Except their plan is not to answer a question, and hopefully Trump has his own answer too.
Our biggest liability will be the bowtie brigades and cuckpublicans.
