The sun is setting

Sacrificial Lamb nobly attempts to explain to the Boomers why they are, and will probably remain, the most despised generation in recorded human history, before they pass from the stage:

You Boomers always had more wealth, more opportunity, and more political power than us younger generations......and your narcissistic stupidity caused you geezers to squander it all. If current trends continue on, then most of the people that will end up taking care of you Boomers in nursing homes will be low IQ, white-hating black Africans....here in a previously white nation. No joke. I know this because I have seen this multiple times, with my very own eyes. You Boomers wanted cheaper labor, and you got it.

We are all suffering from an endless parade of Boomer selfishness and Boomer mistakes.

Stop being defensive, and take a hard look in the mirror. In case you haven't noticed, we're going to have a full-blown civil war soon, and you Boomers need to acknowledge your role (wittingly or not) in creating this increasingly dystopian and Luciferian world that we live in today.

Oh, and people don't bust you Boomers' chops for being old. They bust your chops for being the most narcissistic, selfish, and delusional generation in modern history. People bust Boomer chops because you guys inherited a nation of laws, tradition, ethnic and racial cohesion, and prosperity....AND THEN JUST THREW IT AWAY, even when your adult generation still had demographics in your favor. You may have been (((manipulated))) into doing so, but that is not an acceptable excuse.

Can you now understand why some people might hold a slight grudge, or at least deliberately taunt you Boomers?

It's time to take a hard look in the mirror, geezer.....because the sun is setting soon.

Generation X doesn't hate its grandparents or its kids. The Zoomers don't hate their Gen-X parents. But both generations, as well as the Millennials, despise Boomers. Indeed, the small minority of Boomers capable of both a) generational self-reflection and b) self-identification rather than generational identification despise their fellow Boomers too.

There is a reason that "Boomer" is now used unironically as an insult by the two youngest generations, and that reason is that being a Boomer is observably synonymous with narcissism, selfishness, short time preferences, indifference to one's posterity, technological and temporal cluelessness, lack of gratitude, and generational identification.

If you're a Boomer, instead of asking yourself if this is true of you, try asking yourself if it is true of your acquaintances of an age with you. Do they sacrifice for their children and grandchildren or do they live in nicer homes than their kids do on the other side of the country? Are they leaving bigger and better legacies for their descendants than their ancestors left for them or do they brag about spending their children's inheritances? What sort of world are they leaving behind them? Will the Earth be a better place for them having been here or not?

The sun is setting, Boomer. Isn't it time you stop lying to yourself about how your generation changed the world and face up to the material consequences of your generation's actions? Wouldn't it be better to spend your final chapter doing whatever you can to rectify the damage that has been done over the course of your lifetime?

Exactly. Every stupid meeting I have to attend has some asinine reference to boomers retiring and what we are doing to be attractive to millennials and Gen Z.

Gen X is Never mentioned. Never. Never in decades of corporation life have I ever seen any effort expended to develop and retain my generation.

As an X-er who's been in leadership positions since I was 20, I can pretty confidently say smart companies will do whatever they can to retain GenX leadership.

I don't write off Millennials completely the way some do, they have the value. But not as leaders. For the last ten years, I've been trying to recruit Millennials into junior leadership positions. They flee from that sort of responsibility like vampires from garlic, or liberals from logic. I frankly don't think I'm going to bother promoting any more Millennials into leadership positions - the last three I've done that with have all left within two years to take IC jobs elsewhere, even though they were actually good leaders.

So GenX is going to have to provide two generations worth of leaderhsip, until the Zoomers have enough experience to handle it.

To state the obvious: 1/3 aborted. Which just looks like a math problem, right? Okay, that 1/3 in ten years is the same number that got wiped off the map in about 100 years, more or less, as the Great Black Plague, the Bubonic Plague, the one that changed church iconography, inspired countless great works of art in horror, altered land rights and serfs rights, wiped out entire dynasties, increased working peoples' income, stuff like that?

And then, after having blighted their own family trees, the Boomers then let people in from everywhere else. And doubled down on the rhetoric about how great it is to bring in replacements.

Of the two remaining thirds? Half, fully half, of that group then suffered through their parents divorce. And, statistically, Boomer divorces were histrionic, self-centered, incredibly vicious affairs. The books for children mostly told the children to suck it up and support their parents' pursuit of happiness. This isn't me pulling a vague anecdote out of the air- it's actually been studied and measured: Boomer books aimed at GenX suffering children asked that the children have more sensitivity, couth, empathy and maturity than their parents.

I'm not even throwing my anecdotes on the dumpster fire.

Vox Day Boomer threads are bonfires that clear the cold, foggy loneliness away. They bring words and clarity to the hopeless. That's why they need to continue.

Obsessions are recurrent and persistent thoughts, impulses, or images that cause distressing emotions such as anxiety or disgust. Many people with OCD recognize that the thoughts, impulses, or images are a product of their mind and are excessive or unreasonable. Yet these intrusive thoughts cannot be settled by logic or reasoning.

Look at this boomer refer to his lust for COMFORT...his Last Man Ignavi COMFORTS and DEGENERACIES...as if the boomer degeneracy is what we will miss. That's exactly what we disdain and would gladly get rid of to fix the world of the Boomer problem.

"birth control" - yes, so your wives and daughters can be a degenerate whores and you can refrain from taking things too seriously with any particular woman

"antibiotics" - these only kept far more of you alive than ever should have survived with your degenerate lifestyles...we survived without antibiotics before Boomers came along needing them prescribed everyday for your syphilis and gonorrhea ...and now you've had so many of them they don't work any more. Idiot.

"pain meds" - because you hurt your back on your riding lawn mower swilling light beer...and to keep up with your degenerate lifestyle needing antibiotics and pain meds everyday, the pain meds have now gotten so strong it has created the worst medically-induced addiction pandemic ever known. Moron.

"A/C" - you just cannot imagine life with your comforts and comfort, can you. Only until Boomers came along could no one survive without A/C. Weak.

We taught them to cook, clean, raise a garden and animals, how to shop and be frugal, work to earn spending money, take care of their health and learned to fish and shoot and be as self sufficient as they wanted to be and to love reading and to think for themselves. Sad but true, I began hating my mother because of the way she treats my dad. He is not the type of person people look up to but he did his duty, spent 3 years in Africa fighting in a losing war, worked in France and Canada to raise 3 kids. But she shows him no respect, she just cares about her house and things. She feels sorry for criminals than respect for her husband. I grew to hate her then realized that is dishonoring your parents, so now I learned to pity her.

Blogger IreneAthena September 08, 2020 11:51 PM

Wasn't there someone who comments whose wife has experienced multiple miscarriages? That's such a hard row to hoe, especially when there aren't any answers. Have her checked for the MTHFR gene mutation. It's very common -- an inability to process the synthetic form of vitamin B9. That synthetic ingredient is "folic acid" and is in so many commercial baked products, and even in some natural goods like brewer's yeast. (It's even in Twinkies. Why???)

It was all part of the push to "depopulate." Sure a lot of Boomers willingly killed their own offspring through abortion. Others who desperately wanted kids endured the quiet hell of infertility because of scams like (1)promotion of the food pyramid recommending "11 servings of bread a day" PLUS (2)
"enriching" nearly all of that bread with folic acid PLUS (3) recommending that pregnant women supplement with "folic acid." The only B9 supplement someone with MTHFR should be taking is methyl folate, the natural form.

Nice rant.... the problem is, though, that all of the innovations you mention were invented not by baby-boomers, but by those who came before them.

The inflection point marking when the 'boomers took over is around 1970 or so, which is when the first boomers moved into the workforce in large numbers. As they aged and attained higher positions in society, they forced out the last sane generations to run the country, i.e., the WWII-Korean War adults.

It is no accident that the country - and the West as a whole - have accelerated in their decay and dysfunction since that time.

Oh, and the debasement of the dollar really took off around then, too. Woodrow Wilson is to blame for the income tax and the Fed, but Nixon-Kissinger (Republicans, mind you) severed the last links to gold of the US dollar. Since that time, the greenback has become more and more worthless in real terms. In 1970, you could buy a brand new Cadillac Eldorado for $10,000 new. Today, that sum won't even buy the most-humble and stripped down of new economy cars.

The boomers are the most-destructive, narcissistic, and arrogant generational cohort in the history of our nation. A plague of locusts does less damage...

Ok GenX, Millys, and Zoomers WHAT THE HELL HAVE YOU DONE DIFFERENT to make it better?? Thought so. It is so much easier to gripe from the bleachers than down down in the ring and slug it out.

So let me offer what Boomers did do:

* We finished what our grand parents started and won the cold war.
* We ended the draft and have an all volunteer force. 55000 of us died in a senseless war before it was ended.
* We battled it out in the board rooms and cubicles to deliver the basis for the Internet. The greatest library gifted to humankind and Zoomers reduced it to a 140 chars of twaddle.
* Life spans for those diagnosed with cancer has doubled.
* We survived the S&L crisis, 1987 stock market crash, the 2008 stock market crash, gas shortages, the Chevy Vega, 21% mortgage rates, Jimmy Carter, Paul Volcker and host of other bumps an bruises along the way. You think it was a pick-nick, it wasn't.

GenX you have blood on your hands. Your spawn the Zoomers are tearing up cities across the nation and so far have contributed to 30 dead. What is up with that? Millenials, you have your brain so far up your cellphone's butt that most States have had to institute 'no text and driving' laws. You can't put the phone down long enough to keep your eyes on the road; what is up with that? Zoomers wise up. You are young enough to not make the same mistakes the last three generations have but your opportunity to do so draws short.

So GenX, Millys, show me what you have ACCOMPLISHED of lasting significance to this nation and then I will listen. Till then, just let us fade away in peace.

The horse isn't dead as long as it can defend itself or try to deflect. Therefore, the beatings will continue.

Why is it so hard for you Boomers to simply shut the fuck up? Many of us hate everything - EVERY SINGLE THING - about your generation. It did literally nothing good for the world or for the USA. It is leaving both considerably worse off than it found it.

That's our opinion and we have every bit as much right to it as you did to all of your stupid opinions about "changing the world" and "Clapton is God" and "the Beatles make good music" and "divorce is actually good for the kids".

I was born at the tail end of the boomer generation, as were my siblings. Did a quick computation of the divorce rate in my expanded family from the previous generation to mine. My parents, aunts and uncles had a divorce rate of 12.5%. My generation was 65%. One of my siblings had 3 of them to her credit. The majority of those divorces were initiated by the wife. The "stand by your man" ethos was eroded during our time under the sun. I can see the damage done to my many nieces and nephews via out of wedlock births and drug abuse. The culture was a changing during my youth, and in many ways not for the better.

Blue collar Boomer here. My wife of 30+ years and I sacrificed greatly to raise our three children, help them thru university, and send them out into this world without suffocating debt.

We never asked for a dime from our parents. We refinanced the mortgage on our tiny 1000 sq. foot cracker-box house a couple of times in order to do it. She worked part-time at the public school our kids attended so that she would be home to raise/nurture them while I worked long, gawd-awful hours because we agreed that WE would raise our own children...not strangers at daycare.

When I recently looked at the low amount of our equity, I asked my wife, "Thirty years of mortgage payments on a truck driver's salary, and we have nothing to show for it."

She replied, "Yes we do. We have three grateful kids who recognize our sacrifices and who graduated college and are out on their own."

Besides that, we have what will most likely be a valueless 401k. No golden parachute, no awesome pension after 40+ years of blue collar paycheck jobs...and I don't blame anybody (or any generation) but myself.

It is what it is. My choices, my decisions...good and bad. I don't blame anybody but myself.

Do I wish things were different/better? Sure, but I don't dwell on it. What good what good would THAT do? Wish in one hand, crap in the other. See which one fills up first.

So, if any of you boomer haters want to roll up on me and tell me how I screwed up this country/world, I ain't listening to your BS. I took good care of my little corner of it the best I could.

I'm not responsible for the rest of it.

Here in the US, they agitated (successfully) to lower the drinking age for themselves and then, once safely past 21, got into the legislatures and raised it back up again for GenX. In my state, in fact, the age it went up January 1sst, 1985, the EXACT date such that no GenXers would be able to drink legally under 21, but such that all Boomers could. (Dividing line between the two gens is 1965)

It wasn't so bad for us GenXers, though, since enforcement was lax in our day. By the time the later Millennials and Zoomers came along, they began going after underage drinking with a near-psychotic ferver, scorching the earth trying to get rid of it. Just look at this $h!t. Look at her background. She grew up in a wealthy neighborhood, where you are poor if you make $100,000 a year. She went to either Boston College or Boston University and got a degree in economics. […] Yet, her last job before Congress was bartender.

No one is curious to ask what happened to her in between graduating college and bar tending? How did she get knocked off of her career track? What occurred? What happened?

More importantly, is this common among young people? Are zoomers and millenials graduating with expensive degrees and massive debt-loads only to discover that the career-tracks they trained for are closed off to them? No one is curious? Gee, you wonder where the militancy is coming from.

I'm an X/Millennial cusp; so I have a lot in common with both generations, though due to taking about twice as long to get my degree as I wanted, career-wise I'm solidly Millennial. — The Millennials were screwed when it came to careers: the Great Recession of 2008 hit and the Millennials found themselves looking at a tough time getting jobs, or keeping them. (Tim Pool has a story about going into a restaurant to apply for a job, seeing others applying there, to include a well-dressed law-school graduate.) This was also combined with the Affordable Care Act, which incentivized cutting hours (for hourly) and replacing full-time with part-time (for salary). — Around that time companies started to snub candidates, and take advantage of existing employees excusing it with "you're lucky to have a job!" and similar.

But things got worse, eventually companies started raising requirements in job descriptions to ridiculous levels (like 5–7 years experience for entry-level jobs), and being utterly unresponsive to candidates ("Ghosting"), and piling on absurd 'requirements' and onerous interview/hiring processes. — It wasn't until 2018-ish that things started to improve… just as Millennials were graduating from "entry level" to "senior level"/management 2020 happened.

Now we're starting to see things like 10–15 years experience required for entry-level jobs, absolutely terrible pay, and employers are taking full advantage of 40+ Million unemployed who are beginning to get desperate.

So, yes, the "got stuck in a crap job, despite having skills/experience" is rather common for Millennials.

As someone in the gen-x cohort, this is something I don't get either. But it was never pushed on us. It was a term I never even heard until the very late 80s and even then it was only sporadic.

For them, being robbed of identity around either race or class and "American" ethnicity a joke, they internalize Boomer because it is central to their identity. Being part of a plurality (not the majority) in my formative years at school where race was also a big deal, white has always been part of my identity. All the anti-white stuff is personal. I think it's the same for Boomer. They can't help it. When they hear "boomers do X" they hear "YOU do X" It's like trying to have a conversation with a Jew about Jewish people that is not entirely flattery. It's impossible. You're not talking about an abstraction, you are talking about them personally. They were denied an ethnic identity and so Boomer became their ethnicity.

What have we done? Nothing. BECAUSE YOU WOULDN'T GIVE UP THE REINS OF POWER TO GIVE US THE CHANCE TO DO SO! A lot of people from YOUR generation said Ronald Reagan was too old to run for President at the age of 69 (and 73); Trump and Biden are both older than that, and one of them has dementia. DC pharmacies make insane amounts of money sending pills by the truckload to the halls of Congress, and the Boomers still won't get the hell out of the way!
* You won the Cold War? Reagan, a member of GG, did that by rejecting the Boomer philosophy of 'peaceful co-existence.' The Boomers were all-in on 'the Soviets are too powerful, we have to learn to live with them.' Reagan said 'screw that,' and beat them. You had nothing to do with it.
* Nixon, also GG, ended the draft; your entire 'counter-cultural' movement was nothing more than gaslighting from the Deep State. And after the war in Vietnam ended, you continued to prop-up the MIC to keep your stock portfolios nice and fat. You also pushed hard to continue the wars in the Middle East, sending the younger generations to die in the deserts so you could have a bigger DJI.
* You're taking credit for Al Gore's invention now? The internet was created by Silents (Bob Kahn and Vincent Cerf), and the ideas for it came long before any of you were born. Your hard work to globalize the internet did give us the ultimate scourge of free pornography, though. Great job.
* Cancer rates have more than doubled during your tenure in power thanks to the chemical cocktails we get in our food supply, again at the behest of the stock market's biggest movers and shakers.
* You survived the 2008 crash; most Gen-Xers and Gen-Ys didn't. While you managed to coast along with your portfolios and bank bailouts, we lost almost everything, including our jobs, our homes, and in many cases our personal lives were shattered because of the financial strains. Again, all so you could get MOAH STUFF
The Millenials and Zoomers who are tearing up the cities right now learned it from YOUR generation. They're following your brilliant examples when they denounce their own country and civilization. They don't know any better, because you abdicated your own responsibility to pass on your culture and left them to fend for themselves in a sea of Communist propaganda. Those of us who do know better have to figure it out for ourselves, because you were too busy taking your fifth cruise of the year to worry about how your kids and grandkids were getting along. And hey, you'll all be gone soon enough, so who cares what shape you leave the culture in after you're dead and buried?
As for your hand-wringing about '30 dead,' you have unbelievable nerve, even for a goddamn Boomer. Your generation murdered 33% of ours in your glorious Sexual Revolution, all so you could screw to your heart's content without worrying about consequences or responsibility afterward. The blood on your hands would make Stalin shake his head in awe.
Here are a few other legacies with which you Boomers have blessed future generations: Latch-key kids, broken homes, no-fault divorce, Marxist universities, massive inflation, poisonous food, mass consumerism, an ungodly welfare state, infinite bureaucracy, and an economy built on fiat currency that is so fragile that its collapse is going to kill millions of people by the time it's finished.
Even Narcissus looked up from his reflection long enough to say, 'Damn, you Boomers are really into yourselves.

Demonizing and blaming entire generations is no better than doing the same to a race or a gender. Many of you are truly disgusting people who would've been excellent SS concentration camp guards. We were all born at a time not of our choosing by parents who brought us up. If the boomers have issues isn't it in the greatest generation who raised them? The individual is the smallest minority and grouping this way is another form of failed identity politics and cultural marxism.

I have run for political office, and with absolutely zero help from family or the local republican-party gotten about 10% of the signatures to appear on the ballot. Me, myself.
I've written actual amendments for the Article V, Convention of the States organization — telling them that they would have a lot more support if they had concrete working-drafts… only to be ignored.
I've dreamt for big renovations to my organization's software, which would breathe new life into a rather old project and could conceivably increase the quality of software used by that entire field, only to be told “Nope.”

Yes, I failed, so what? Failure is the theme of my life, until I win… and that's normal.
Unlike Boomers, most Millennials can recognize that being a winner isn't an inborn quality, but the result of effort, the result of being a loser while persevering and learning until you win, and sometimes the result of luck/pure-chance. — Too bad Millennials have been denigrated and discouraged, criticized for even trying, and despised by their elder generation (usu. parents) who are supposed to be on their side.

ZhukovG wrote:Why do so many Boomers take anything said about their generation so personally. It's like some strange hive mind takes them over. It's weird.
It's because they deliberately destroyed their roots.
It's because they deliberately embraced a cosmopolitan worldview.
Thus, the only community/"common unity" they have is with their fellow generation.

Think of them as tribalists, but ones who have spent their lives hating their actual genetic-family.

I don't have a problem with you. You raised your kids right yet have a worthless 401K. I've stated yesterday I have a teacher relative who is a stereotypical boomer (selfish, out of touch with reality, etc) and that pension may or may not be funded. Here in Chicago the city is broke and people are leaving. If making close to 100K per year working 8 months out of the year isn't enough yet still that's grounds to strike we're in peak clown world. The world is a very unfair place.

Blogger Shoji Kahn September 09, 2020 12:42 PM

This isn’t that hard, Boomer-Tards:

You inherited Mayberry. A society with Christian morals, traditional gender rolls, high social trust, low crime, great schools, honorable institutions, almost non-existent divorce. An age where a blue collar man could raise a family, support his wife, buy a house, and pay for his kids to go to college. A time where credit debt was nearly unheard of. A society where men wore suits and women were modest. A nation that was an industrial and agricultural powerhouse, far ahead of the entire world in nearly every industry. You inherited the most prosperous nation in history.

And what did you do with that?

You embraced degeneracy, feminism, multiculturalism, narcissism, relativism, pornography, and every other Satanic idea. You shunned the wisdom of your elders, believing that your g-generation was the smartest and most woke in the history of the world. You allowed every institution in America to be taken over by Marxists. You exploded the size, scope and spending of government. You turned your neglected kids into debt slaves, at least the ones you didn’t abort. You spent your generation’s wealth on yourself, leaving nothing for your children except debt and a crumbling society. You outsourced nearly every industry. You in-sourced cheap foreign labor. You built a Ponzi scheme economic system that benefited you at the expense of your children and their children. You swallowed every stupid idea like “we are a nation of immigrants” and “40s is the new 20s”, and embraced New Age bullshit and “spirituality”. All while narcissistically proclaiming your generation the best ever.

No generation has been given as much as the Boomers were given. And no generation has squandered it more spectacularly and more insufferably.

Blogger Kat September 09, 2020 12:58 PM

The abortion really is key. I can have some pity for people who were raised by crap parents (a trait not shared by Boomers btw), but when it comes to killing your own kids that's a huge red line that any semi civilized person knows not to cross.

Boomers as a generation suck. Individual examples don't matter, and the inability to conceptualize the difference between the group and the individual is part of why Boomers suck.

This mental failure is part of the frustration of any attempt to communicate with the average Boomer.

"I'll personally do good with this, so therefore this fragile and risky system will be good for everyone."

"What do you mean the system is bad? I got materially rich, so that means it's spiritually and morally good for the group."

"What do you mean we benefited? I personally suffered, so that means Boomers never benefited from it."

So close to 300.........

Anyway, can we slag on Boomers for just plain reeking? Cigarette smoke, cocaine sweat, and the loudest perfumes ever created? Like, to the point that they killed the industry for about twenty years?

Perfume for regular people died with the Boomers taking baths in really loud, attention getting (Command the Room! for women!! RAwr!) perfumes sold by the bucket-load at Boomer department stores. The young people after that took a sabbatical from shopping for nose assailants for ten to twenty years, then Britney Spears made a perfume that reminded her of her poor, stay at home, young, backcountry mother- a sweet, small, sugary scent. It sold millions, worldwide. And Boomers come out to every perfume review site and insult it as too young, too sweet, too innocent, too mild--- it doesn't shriek, it doesn't invade the far corners of the room, it doesn't yell "REspect my Authority!" Instead, it makes young working women and their boyfriends happy.

Or, let's see, department stores as a happy spot? A whole scene in all sorts of movies is the heroine going shopping in a montage about like Rocky training for his big fight. That didn't happen before boomers, but it sure happened during, and it's a sick joke now, with everyone poor.

And, for all you Boomers trying to lay blame of turn of the century progressives: Utopianists have been in America since the beginning. Every generation before you, and every generation after you has the good sense to point and laugh, not take notes and try to change society to the vision of nutjobs.

Looking at my peers I see at least two major groupings: "Coastal Boomers" (think Woodstock and Altamount; Harvard and every small lib arts college within 300 miles of Boston; Their anthem was "Sex, drugs and rock'n roll--after that folkie BS!" Liberal arts, sociology psychology or business--marketing or finance; better to join Wall Street or Academia.

Then you have your "Flyover Boomers" (think beer with bourbon chasers, with nice girls making out by the lake--2nd base if you were adventurous and lucky and country/western music; universities: every Ag school you can imagine, like Kansas State, Washington State, as well as every college with "Mines" in its name! Engineering, social studies(eye on teaching and coaching) business---management, Pre-Med, Pre-Law, better to join the small family practice!

They are quite different in both beliefs and professional and familial outcomes.

Bth were negatively influenced by a failure to grow up! I blame first gen feminism, sparked by the WWII Home Front and WWII vet dads who were weirdly twisted by the war's forced military experience, whether they saw combat (or were within a 100 miles of it) or not. The worst mistakes those "Greatest Generation" types made in raising their families was: meekly yielding to and worshiping the "youth culture" of the '50's and believing that MONEY was a fully adequate substitute for time spent, when raising kids.
