This really isn't that hard

Not that the usual morons will pay any heed to this, but simply because it will permit me to tell them in the future that I already pointed this out, I would like everyone to please note that all comments are moderated here. This is necessary because there are literally hundreds of spam comments that spammers attempt to post here every day due to the 100k daily pageview traffic. If moderation was not in effect, the comments would be entirely unreadable.

THIS MEANS THAT IF YOUR COMMENT DOES NOT APPEAR RIGHT AWAY, DO NOT TRY TO POST IT A SECOND TIME. THIS MEANS YOU, YOU MORON.

UPDATE: ALSO AND ESPECIALLY YOU, BOOMER.

Literally nothing that anyone has to say is so urgent that it necessitates a second, or third, or even fourth attempt to post it. If you're worried that your Very Important Comment may have been lost, then for the love of all that is Good, Beautiful, and True, accept with equanimity that possibility as The Decretive Will of God, An Act of Nature, An Unfortunate Accident, or even The Insidious Work of the Father of Lies, whatever may happen to best suit your particular philosophical perspective. FFS, this isn't a difficult concept!

Let me repeat for those of you who are too stupid to grasp the readily apparent: DO NOT TRY TO COMMENT A SECOND TIME WHEN YOUR INITIAL COMMENT DOES NOT IMMEDIATELY APPEAR.

Furthermore, please note that adding an "OT" to your off-topic comment does not make it acceptable. It is still off-topic. If you feel the need to share your Very Important Opinion or some Very Important News, then feel free to do so on your own site. Do not do it here. All that adding "OT" to your off-topic comment accomplishes is to make it clear that you know you're a jackass and you're going to try to hijack the mic even though you know you're not supposed to. Furthermore, if your Very Important Breaking News is a link to Drudge, Twitter, Instapundit, or the AP News Wire, then there is absolutely no need to "alert" anyone to anything.

This may come as shocking news to the solipsistic, but everyone else reads those sites too.

UPDATE: If you're a Boomer who doesn't understand why everyone Gen X and younger can't stand you and your g-g-generation, allow me to point out that one of the regular Boomers here has ALREADY tried to post the same comment on this post TWICE, presumably because he didn't see the first one appear immediately. The Day of the Pillow cannot arrive soon enough.

Isn't it possible for some browsers being abused in a certain way to repeat a prior submission?

Blogspot should and can prevent this, and the browsers I'm familiar with will clearly say something to the effect "Do you want to resubmit...," a warning I'm sure many if not most people ignore. Hence the previously mentioned best practice of making sure that can't happen.

thanks. Yes, the most irritating comments, that plague every website, are the "Breaking news, read all about it" ones. why these people think everyone needs to read their very important news story, right now, is beyond me. I can use google and read other news sites, thank you very much.

Maybe these are the same people who get upset when every website everywhere isn't talking about the same half-dozen current issues of the day.

My browser always makes me hit publish twice. If I don't hit it the second time, it doesn't ever show up. But if it is showing up twice for the mods, could you please let me know and I'll try a different browser or something. Once I hit publish the 2nd time, the comment disappears out of the text box and then I get the message saying that comments are held for moderation or whatever it says.

Not commenting on every single post is also an option.

I limit myself to no more than a few comments per day under the idea that I'm not as smart as I think and VD has probably already thought of it.

It would be nice if we could get 1 comment per day that becomes 5 comments per day after certain time or other criteria are met. Extra comment privileges could come with subscriptions to other VD-family services.

Gotta love a good Boomer beatdown thread. Not necessarily the root, but their duh-generation was certainly the active ingredient in the satanic concoction leading to much of the world's ills. The pillow talk is well deserved for the sexy-at-seventy crowd. Imagine there's no heaven. It's easy if you try. And then, you take your reverse-mortgage, wrinkled asses into the abyss.

When I was unsure if comments went through, and had one lost (which turned out to be the browser), I would copy it before hitting publish. Then, if it didn't appear in the next refresh or two, I would send it again (then it worked). But that only happened once or twice, so I rarely do it now. So if you have the mostest importantest comment evah to post, maybe do that instead of spamming until it appears.

My observation is that the polite way to submit off topic material is to pitch the subject to the person writing the blog. If they feel it's interesting, they will make a post on the subject. That makes your thoughts on the topic no longer OT in that post.

The few times that I've directly corresponded with Vox, he has been gracious and civil. There's no reason for others not to do the same.

Vox is hilarious and I think the fact is greatly underappreciated.

I would say he could do standup comedy, but no, instead I picture him on stage sitting in his grandfather's chair under a lone spotlight launching zingers one after another at the audience. No fancy musical introduction, no anything, just the stage, the chair, and the spotlight. The lone spotlight pops on, he begins and when he grows weary the spotlight pops off.

We can all benefit from reading less news and thinking about ourselves less. The boomers never took to heart Jesus Christ's lessons about humility. Blogger basementhomebrewer September 07, 2020 1:25 PM

Blogger Unknownsailor September 07, 2020 1:31 PM

Failure to follow directions, or even read directions, is not a BB exclusive trait.

When I was running the HAZMAT issue office on my last aircraft carrier, I had a sign on my door posted at eye level that had my operating hours on it.

Still, people would come to the door and ask when we were open.

I swore one day I would go buy a whiffle ball bat, write CLUE on it, and rapidly beat people about the head and shoulders with it when they ask a stupid question.

If only there were a way to implement a pop quiz the commenter must pass with 100% correct answers before his comment was POSTed by his browser.

Blogger Karen took the Kids September 07, 2020 1:55 PM

As one of those who committed this cardinal sin, I apologize.

Not an excuse, but my browser did not give me the usual message about comment submission and moderation that lets me know to step away and be patient. I thought something went wrong so rather than be patient and wait a couple of cycles of moderation to see if my submission showed up, I immediately resubmitted and this time I got the message about moderation. Only to look on in horror moments later as I found that I had committed this site's ultimate faux pas. I now need to retreat and reflect on my lack of patience. Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.

my browser ( Palemoon ) throws an error message when the post fails to submit to the thread, at which point i paste the comment window contents back into the window and resubmit.

whether or not the post shows in the next couple of minutes is completely irrelevant to whether or not you successfully submitted a post to the thread.

i don't believe i've had a double posting problem but Vox or Snidely will be sure to let you know if i have.

concerning Boomers and the Coof:
76.1% of deaths are over 70 and a further 15.8% are over 60.
https://www.coronavirus.in.gov/

ie - almost everyone dying from this was born prior to 1960.

what's interesting about this is that this is the smoking generation. in 1955, 55% of men smoked. women smoking didn't peak til around 1965 at +30%. in the 1970s when i was growing up, non-smoking households usually had ashtrays for smoking visitors, simply as a matter of courtesy.

has there been any sort of study on the prior tobacco / marijuana use of those now dying of the Coof? or, like Comet Pizza, is that something we're not allowed to ask questions about?

Blogger Doktor Jeep September 07, 2020 3:02 PM

When I left Faceberg, some boomers I knew told me "But how are you going to stay in the fight? "

Yes. These people actually think they are fighting (the left/ tyranny / whatever).

Arguing with leftists online does nothing. But I think sometimes all that censorship is a trick to make boomers think their "fighting" online means something. Like a weaponized Streisand Effect geared towards misdirection. Both sides fall for it, while one side - the left - didn't ask in internet forums for approval to make their moves. Notably if we took the energy of every internet post we could power the Death Star for 1000 years, but only real action in meatspace actually gets er done.

One of the most excruciating things is going onto the internet looking to solve a specific problem. Like which way a part goes in some piece of gear for example. You find some post somewhere describing your issue or being of the same question, the you scroll down into 100 useless posts. Stuff like "Well you have a Ford and I drive a Chevy do can't help you".
I call that "Boomerpoasting". When you are too fat and lazy to actually do things so you haunt social media around the subject and makes useless comments. I know fellows who are masters of their craft because they actually do it every day and they can't stand reddit and these people who just sit there and post about stuff without actually getting up and doing it. The gun world is rife with these people.

So of course the standard boomer will, if you stop, prune, delay, or deny a post, will act in such manner as if you marched into the nursing home and tea-bagged their mother.

As a Boomer, in fact, one of the Boomers who built the Internet, let me be the one to tell you you're full of shit. You're not defending Steve Jobs or Bill Gates, you're defending your fragile ego. You don't care about any logical inconsistency or defamation of groups. You don't care in the least when Vox castigates anyone from Pedowood to Communists to SciFi writers to Jordan Peterson fans. But boy howdy, he says something about Boomers and you lose it!

Of course any statement about a large enough group will have exceptions. If you're the exception then he's not talking about you. But since you're one of the typical Boomer Losers who gains his identity and sense of accomplishment in the world from the mere year he was born, you can't separate yourself enough from Boomerhood to realize that.
As for your custom and "support" whatever that means, nobody, least of all Vox, cares. Nobody here cares if you live or die. If you don't like it here, go find something or some place that gives you some simulacrum of happiness, or at least contentment, to live out your few remaining miserable years.

"Fuck all of you clowns who hate your fathers or whatever the fuck makes you disrespect your elders."

Generational betrayal will earn it (disrespect). That and more.

"Here? Cast into the void with zero feedback."

Why do you care? It doesn't matter. It's a comment, not the cure for cancer.

Disable Brave Shields on the blog.

Brave is an excellent browser for mobiles due to its tiny memory and bandwidth footprint, but intolerably threadbare as a desktop main-tool. Throw AdNauseum and a few other security-minded extensions on another browser to enjoy the best of both worlds.

There’s really only one response to this thread; either you’ve done it or not. I’ve done it. I’ve on several occasions made “tangentially related” posts, with exactly that preface. I apologize to whomever moderated them. They’re never tangentially-related so much as they were essentially “look at me, first post on topic.” There almost was a thread on it within the day, anyway.

Did someone use Bill Gates' status as a boomer in defense of boomers?

Blogger Jack Amok September 07, 2020 11:53 PM

Some 'Boomers' have forgotten more about computers than you will ever know. Not everyone was so lucky. Steve jobs was a boomer. Bill Gates was a 'boomer'.

One of the things Bill Gates forgot was to pass the company on to someone who knew what they were doing. But that's kinda par for the course for Boomers - handed an opportunity, made hay with it, left it a burned out husk when they were done.

Furthermore, the coof is only one-tenth as lethal to children as the flu is.

yes, and kids today are much less likely to smoke tobacco than Boomers-as-children.

when i was 5, one of my neighbor kids was also 5 or 6. he was swiping a pack a day out of the carton his father left on the kitchen table. and smoking them all every day. i'm sure many of the Boomers did likewise.

they SAY the lungs recover from long term tobacco use ... but do they?

based upon it killing about five times as many people as the average flu.

how likely is it that the flu hasn't killed anybody this year?

Sadly, no. They stop getting worse, but no, they don't really recover. Especially if you wait too long.

OUTRAGE IN ALL CAPS

Blogger SacrificialLamb September 08, 2020 5:01 AM

@77. Are you actually using the Luciferian Bill Gates as an example of a Boomer we should respect? Really? Isn't this the same Bill Gates that took control of India ‘s National Advisory Board (NAB) and mandated 50 polio vaccines (up from 5) to every child before age 5.....thus creating a vaccine-strain polio epidemic that paralyzed 496,000 children between 2000 and 2017?

Is that the type of Boomer elder we need to respect?

Or how about the Boomer, Steve Jobs, who was described by his eldest daughter (whom he denied paternity of, and abandoned) as narcissistic, sadistic and psychologically abusive? And was described in a very similar way by his ex-girlfriend? The same Steve Jobs who had his friends lie for him, and pretend he didn't have sex with and father a baby with Chrisann Brennan......so that he could deny paternity of his own child? The same Steve Jobs, whose company (Apple) engaged in sweatshop labor involving children? Is this also the same Boomer, Steve Jobs, who.....during his tenure as Chairman of the Board of Directors at Pixar, had to make layoffs (due to lost profits) and INSISTED that the employees were to be let go without warning or severance pay? And isn't Jobs the same Boomer who used to abuse LSD?

Are these really the "Boomer elders" and "moral exemplars" whom we are supposed to respect? Couldn't you at least have the common sense to use examples of Boomer excellence and moral authority that we should all aspire to become more like? At your age, you're supposed to be wise.....and avoid doubling down on stupidity.

You Boomers always had more wealth, more opportunity, and more political power than us younger generations......and your narcissistic stupidity caused you geezers to squander it all. If current trends continue on, then most of the people that will end up taking care of you Boomers in nursing homes will be low IQ, white-hating (or emotionally indifferent) black Africans....here in a previously white nation. No joke. I know this because I have seen this multiple times, with my very own eyes. You Boomers wanted cheaper labor, and you got it.

We are all suffering from an endless parade of Boomer selfishness and Boomer mistakes.

Stop being defensive, and take a hard look in the mirror. In case you haven't noticed, we're going to have a full-blown civil war soon, and you Boomers need to acknowledge your role (wittingly or not) in creating this increasingly dystopian and Luciferian world that we live in today.

Oh, and people don't bust you Boomers' chops for being old. They bust your chops for being the most narcissistic, selfish, and delusional generation in modern history. People bust Boomer chops, because you guys inherited a nation of laws, tradition, ethnic and racial cohesion (mostly) , and prosperity....AND THEN JUST THREW IT AWAY, even when your (adult) generation still had demographics in your favor. You may have been (((manipulated))) into doing so, but that is not an acceptable excuse.

Can you now understand why some people might hold a slight grudge, or at least deliberately taunt you Boomers?

It's time to take a hard look in the mirror, geezer.....because the sun is setting soon.

But Vox, in my day we could comment as many times as we liked and nobody complained. We didn't need to moderate comments because all the comments were great, so much better than the plastic modern day comments, they were comments you'd remember forever. And the comment buttons were much clearer and better made and cost a lot less and everybody could buy one just working a summer job part time once every other year, spending most of the day talking to pretty girls and smoking a doobie down by the shed. And if the comment button broke you could repair it yourself with good quality American code snippets. Man, were those the good days of commenting. You kids sure missed out. Not that you would understand.
