The gloves come off in Europe

In case you doubted the inevitable rise of nationalism, the fact that the EU states are resorting to legal charades and Soviet-style show trials to keep the nationalist opposition out of electoral office should suffice to prove otherwise.

Multiple European Union states are breaking with post-war liberal conventions and openly imprisoning prominent political opponents and intellectuals for ideological crimes.

The tactic being used by these governments is “rule through law,” as opposed to rule of law. The strategy is commonly deployed in nations like Saudi Arabia against journalists, intellectuals and opposition figures who are targeted for repression first, then selectively prosecuted using often vaguely defined existing laws after.

Greece

Earlier today a judge in Athens condemned almost all of Golden Dawn’s elected officials, including sitting European parliament member Ioannis Lagos, to years in prison. Nikos Michaloliakos, Golden Dawn’s General Secretary, was given 13 years for a RICO-style charge that alleged his patriotic Greek party, which until recently was the third most popular in the country, is a criminal organization.

Michaloliakos was not tied to any specific crime, but prosecutors used editions of his group’s magazine featuring articles about Germany during World War II from the 1980s and 90s to argue that their political ideas were a form of violence in and of themselves.

In a public statement published to the Golden Dawn website Michaloliakos blamed the court’s ruling on Golden Dawn’s sudden electoral rise in 2013, stating “They say we are a criminal Nazi organization. [If that’s true] why did they wait 30 years to charge us?”

He accurately pointed out that Golden Dawn was never accused of being a criminal organization since its founding in the 1980s. It was only after May 2012, when the party achieved 7% of the vote, that the Greek state decided it was time to arrest them in 2013.

All that the neoliberals will accomplish is to reveal their own fascism and democratic illegitimacy. These are acts of desperation and fear, they are indications that the neoliberals know the end of their era is rapidly approaching.

Bring back the Regime of the Colonels. It would be a definite improvement.

Once we seize power, all these show trials will be precedent for the imprisonment of the current leadership's living members.

You may be flattering their ability to reason from cause to effect.

They fear losing power but I don’t think they yet expect it.

Then again, there’s a distinction between the prometheans and their useful idiots / true believers. One may be aware while the other remains as ignorant as ever and both run in circles.

"post-war liberal conventions"

You mean like locking people up for suggesting one fewer than 6 million died?

"openly imprisoning prominent political opponents and intellectuals for ideological crimes"

I suppose the "openly" part is supposed to be new. Because "post-war liberal convention" dictated you had to find crimes--usually ones everyone is breaking all the time--and apply them unequally. Or entrapment. A favored tactic being catching them running afoul of your investigation into them. Which is how Nixon went down.

If you don't need that whole song and dance, it surely saves much time and effoer. Also helps with the squeaky clean ones who stubbornly refuse to fall into your traps. However, you want the general public to not merely fear the law but actually respect it.

Greek here. Also, it is worth pointing out that the Attorney said (and still maintains) that GD should have been released and charges dropped because as per her: "In the courtroom, we judge actions, not ideas."

But the judge who is the poster-child of the rulling party, the neoliberal "New Democracy" has ruled that: "We can't give benefit of the doubt to GD because their ideology does not condone the democratic regiments."

Make of it as you wish. I plan to survive and speaking the truth till the soon-to-be collapse of the powers that be.

This is Orwellien, people being imprisoned even though they have committed no crime as that defined in the books. I agree that this is an act of desperation on the part of the EU and will most certainly backfire, probably quite dramatically, at some point in the future. What is very clear is that the EU and the current European governments are no longer democratic in any sense of the word.

I really do hope you are correct and the end of the liberal and neoliberal era is fast approaching. But I especially hope to live to see the outlawing of banking.

What are the chances that the "rule by law" tactics actually work to permanently suppress the rising Nationalism? Is Europe at a tipping point where the level of Nationalism has grown so great that suppression will only bolster it? And if that tipping point is already past in many places in Europe, how does that compare to the situation in the USA where the vast majority of people don't even know what their National identity is?

I'm not trying to argue for the "black pill" here. I'm just curious to understand the factors that will determine how/when this will all play out.

This all goes back to what Q writes: this is much bigger than you can imagine.

Take the pictures of Hunter Biden and the crack pipe. Does Hunter really look like a meth or crack addict? No. He's awfully healthy for a man with that kind of drug addiction. What is being staged are blackmail photos that he is required to submit to as a condition of being a bagman for a money-laundering operation. The same as Andrew Gillum in a Florida motel room.

Sure, from our perspective, it looks like the Bidens are just privately enriching themselves. It is, however, much worse than that. They are pawns in this network. Heck, Biden may very well be right when he says that he does not know what his son is doing. "Management" probably compartmentalizes information even between family members so they can look surprised on camera when accusations start flying.

Even the fact of Biden's wealth, his opulent living unattainable on a government salary, is carefully calibrated to generate the right appearance of impropriety if said Biden ever needs to be taken out.

It really is extraordinary how Cabal operates. It sometimes leads me to think that Cabal is in a civil war and Q is a faction splintered from it. The panic is that this treasure-trove of blackmailable material is in Q's hands...because they've handled it before. It's like Cabal's intelligence branch has gone rogue and now Cabal has to rely on its Potemkin Village government organs to continue operations.

@16 re: "the vast majority of people dont even know what their national identity is?"

The vast majority of Americans know that their national identity is "American." If anyone here is confused as to their "national identity," or if they insist on using a hyphen, then they have to go back, because they obviously dont belong here.

"America has no room for hyphens." -Theodore Roosevelt

Blogger Jose Miguel October 16, 2020 4:07 PM

Theodore Roosevelt shouldn't have gotten involved with the annexation of Puerto Rico and Cuba, it would have prevented a lot of hyphenation.

Officially, in 2013 he both had to get a waiver to join the Navy because of his past drug issues, and then got drummed out within a month because he couldn't keep himself clean. It's even all laid out with the usual excuses in Wikipedia, and the details were leaked to The Wall Street Journal in late 2014. There's lots more where this comes from, this alone wouldn't seem to rise to blackmail level material.

Well, official stories are just that. We're talking about what look like either selfies or photographs taken by another party with Biden in a stupor and/or surrounded by drug paraphernalia. That is a damning image, especially from a member of a powerful family.

Agreed that its a damning picture, but the standard posited was blackmail material sufficient to keep a bagman in line, and IMHO this just doesn't cut it. Especially with the spin Joe puts on it.

And why was all this on his laptop? That of course opens up prospects of dirty tricks, in a time frame where they're unlikely to be exposed. Damning and entirely plausable emails and text messages, combined with salacious photos, an as of yet unreleased sex video, widely hinted sex with minors stuff with one cropped picture so far released (not sure about its provenance), a combined high/low attack.

"Progressive" Teddy was the first communist president (preceding Lenin by almost two decades). (Is it any wonder that the Left lionized him alone among Republicans?)

He declared for Woman's Suffrage in 1912 (bloating enfranchisement being a crucial communist necessity for the takeover a democracy at ballot).

Makes you wonder how much of his widely promoted heroism and alpha chest-beating is fabricated, a la John Kerry's absurd Purple Heart-collection scheme.

Blackmail is never enough. It always operates in tandem with bribery. That is what sinks the hooks in. Blackmail alone may get someone to fall on their sword just to take you with them.

Why is it on his computer? What difference would it make if it wasn't? It's there as a constant reminder of where he stands.

It's happening in Slovakia too. Leader of the "far right" party, elected member of the parliament, Marian Kotleba, has been sentenced to 4 years and 4 months for alleged extremism.

Must be some deed worthy of prison sentence, you may think. Wrong. He gifted three families of sick children with checks of 1488 EUR each. That's it. I'm not kidding:
